Mayde Creek prepares for second-half district run JIMMY GALVAN

When Jill Voss took over the reins of the Mayde Creek softball program, she saw a need to change the attitude that was prevalent at the school. An attitude of losing. With her Rams off to a 5-1 start to the District 19-6A-softball season, Voss is on her way to turning around a program and getting it into the playoffs this year. “This is what our goal was at the beginning of the season,” Voss said. “My expectations were set high and I think the
girls are finally starting to believe that we can do this. I just had to get them to buy into it and it pretty much took us getting some wins in district to sell them on it.” Voss said one of the big selling points to the team has been the slogan “next pitch.” “Girls are mentally defeated pretty easy and this year I have coached the mental game much more than ball and bat,” Voss said. One big plus for Mayde Creek this year is the pitching of junior Ashley Kreesel. “She has been phenomenal this year,” Voss said. “She has
really grown up in the understanding of the game. She works harder at practice than anyone else on the team. For her, she has to pitch seven innings for us. I had to get my pitcher and catcher buy into that it starts with them and everyone is going to feed off of them.” Voss pointed to the opening win over Cinco Ranch, the defending district champions, as a big step for Mayde Creek. “I just keep joking with them that I am always right,” Voss said. “I tell them to listen to me and that I am always right.”

Katy's Garrett Doiron was the winning pitcher in relief against Cinco Ranch Tuesday night. Doiron came into the game and was masterful on the mound in collecting eight strikeouts against the Cougars as Katy secured second place in District 19-6A behind Taylor.
Katy, Doiron slip past Cinco Ranch 4-2 in extras Katy was able to hold off Cinco Ranch 3-2 in a battle for sole possession of second place in District 19-6A Tuesday, April 7. Katy now has a 5-2 district record, Cinco Ranch falls to 4-3 and both are trailing Taylor at 6-1 in district. Both teams battled hard in the contest and were tied at 2-all entering the ninth inning. Katy’s Hayden Baker started the inning with a single and moved up to second on a oneout single by Gabe Rollins. After Trey Clapp was hit by a
pitch to load the bases, Katy was able to execute the perfect suicide squeeze play off the bat of Trevor McKinney to score Baker and a 3-2 lead. Matt Chalk then flied out to deep right field to score Rollins as the Tigers took a 4-2 lead. The scoring was more than enough for Garrett Doiron as he was masterful in relief of Katy starter Dane Haveman as he recorded the final three outs in the ninth to claim the win. Doiron had come to relieve Haveman in the sixth inning and had to pitch out of a cou-
ple of jams but recorded seven strikeouts in his three plus innings of work.
Taylor – 7 Tompkins – 3
Taylor protected its district lead with a 7-3 win over Tompkins Tuesday, April 7. Taylor ran out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning and never really looked back at Tompkins. The Falcons closed the gap to 4-3 after two but Taylor came right back to push the lead back out to 5-3 in the top of the third.

Economic Damage payments are available for Individuals and Entities that lost profits or earnings as a result of the Deepwater Horizon Incident. Coastal Real Property payments are available for property that was physically damaged in connection with the Deepwater Horizon Incident. Detailed descriptions of all seven categories are available at the website. There is no limit on the total dollar amount of the E&PD Settlement. All qualified and timely claims will be paid in full once they are approved. The Settlement also allowed for Seafood Compensation claims, but the deadline for those claims has passed.

You must submit a Claim Form to request a payment. You can get a copy of the various Claim Forms by visiting the website or by calling 1-866-992-6174. Claims can be submitted online or by mail. If you have questions about how to file your claim, you should call the toll-free number for assistance. The claims process can be complex, so if you are eligible to file a claim, you should act now so you may complete your claim before the June 8, 2015 deadline.
