Sharolyn "Shalon" Tamu Woodford, affectionately known as Mookie, peacefully transitioned on April 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born on September 15, 1978, Sharolyn was the cherished daughter of the late Barbara Davenport and Harold O.T Cantrell. She was also preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Samuel and Sybil Woodford, Sr.
Sharolyn was a beacon of light in her family, preceded in death also by her dear siblings, Robert “Chip” Fleming, Jr. and Harold "Junior" Cantrell. She leaves behind treasured memories with her living siblings: Dexter Woodford, Samuel (Katrina) Woodford, Jr., LaDerick Randle, Tiffany Woodford, Miracle Woodford, Sonya Woodford, and Tammy Woodford, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
As a devoted mother, Sharolyn poured her love into her children, Christian Gholston, Heaven Gholston, Shakir Hopkins, and ShyAnn Woodford. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Seven Dowdy and Saige Woodford.
She was a beloved aunt to nieces, Saida Woodford, Kahlia Woodford, Bria Woodford, Twanshae Woodford, Destani Bledson, Shamira Greene and Kendall Glasper, as well as nephews, Xavier Bledson, Dexter Woodford, Jr., Julian Woodford, Kedrick Neal, Jarvis Neal, Sydney Woodford and Kameron Glasper.
Sharolyn's educational journey began at Lumpkin County Elementary School and culminated in her graduation from Lumpkin County High School in 1998. Actively engaged in school life, she participated in Future Farmers of America (FFA), Chorus, and the BAND OF GOLD as a color guard, excelling in track and field, particularly in discus throwing.
graduation, Sharolyn pursued higher education, becoming a licensed cosmetologist and massage therapist. She embarked on her professional journey at Farmers Home Furniture, starting as a salesperson and eventually rising to the position of general manager at the Dahlonega location, where she dedicated 13 years of service.
Sharolyn's spiritual journey was integral to her identity. From her early years at Mt. Calvary Church of God Holiness to her later involvement at Fortson Memorial in Dahlonega, under the leadership of Pastor Darrell E. Watkins, I., she actively participated in various ministries, including The Woodford Sisters, choir, ushering, and the food ministry. Described as possessing the voice of an angel and a smile that could illuminate any room, Sharolyn was deeply cherished within her community. Her passion for helping others and her infectious humor endearedhertoallwhoknewher.
In her leisure time, Sharolyn found joy in family trips, visits to casinos, singing, attending church, and sharing laughter with loved ones. Sharolyn leaves behind her beloved fur baby Josie, who brought her immense comfort and joy. Her absence will be keenly felt by those who were privileged to know her.
Sharolyn "Mookie" Woodford's life epitomized love, faith, and laughter, leaving an enduring imprint on the hearts of those she touched. She will be forever cherished and fondly remembered by her family, friends, and community.
You were a precious gift from God above, So much beauty, grace and love.
You touched our hearts in so many ways.
Your smile so bright even on the bad days.
You heard God’s whisper calling you home, You didn’t want to go and leave us alone. You loved us so much, you held on tight, Till all the strength was gone and you could no longer fight.
He had called your name twice before, You knew you couldn't make him wait anymore. So you gave your hand to God and slowly drifted away. Knowing that with our love We will be together again some day.
Your children, Christian, Heaven Shakir & ShyAnn
