Halloween Weekend Events With Halloween coming up this weekend, several events are happening throughout the valley. And with COVID still around some parents are still hesitant from taking their kid’s door to door for trick or treating, one option for them is to go to an event together as a family. Once again, the City of La Feria Police Department will be having their annual trick or treat giveaway on Sunday, October 31st from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 115 East Commercial Ave. They will be having music, photo ops and of course don’t forget the treats! Another local event that is being put together by the First United Methodist Church of La Feria, First Baptist Church in La Feria, and New Hope Presbyterian Church is their fall fun get together. The Halloween fun will take place on October 31 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the church parking lot at 331 S. Main Street in La Feria. They ask for everyone to join them for hotdogs, goodies, and other fun activities!

It will be their 1st Annual National Night Out Halloween Bash. The event will take place at the Rio Grande Valley Premium Outlets located at 5001 E. Expressway 83. Simple Tips to Adjust to The Time Change Daylight Saving Time (DST) ends November 7, and if you are already dreading the adjustment, you are not alone. The physical and mental effects are real, and many people undergo mood shifts, fatigue and stress as their bodies adjust. To “fall back” this fall stress-free, try these techniques:
• Adjust slowly: Rather than wait until DST ends to shift your sleep schedule by a full hour all at once, start to adjust incrementally in 10 to 15 minute segments over the course of four to six days. This method will help you sleep more soundly and be less tired. If possible, adjust your meal times accordingly as well. For an easy transition, get the entire household in
on the evolving schedule, including children and pets.
• Get a great timepiece: The simplicity of having your watch adjust automatically to the correct time will help ensure you are awake and where you need to be in the days ahead. To that end, consider updating your timepiece to one that’s Bluetooth-enabled. Those in the Edifice lineup are especially useful for travelers and those who work with people around the world, as they analyze current time and positioning data and reset automatically four times a day to always display the accurate time in your location, as well as locations globally. You might also consider a watch with
Multi-Band 6 technology. This useful tech feature of many Casio and G-Shock timepieces synchronizes with atomic clocks -- the most accurate form of timekeeping in existence -- by receiving information from radio waves.
• Create a routine: You can avoid the pitfalls of fatigue that many experience when DST ends by carving out an evening routine that prepares your body for bedtime. Whether it’s a half an hour of screen-free reading, meditation, journaling or enjoying a cup of herbal, caffeine-free tea, such rituals can help signal the body and mind that it’s time for sleep. Likewise, a morning routine -- such as performing a set of dynamic stretches, jogging or eating a protein-rich breakfast, can energize you for the day ahead.
• Seek sunlight: With the sun setting at an earlier hour, you may find yourself in the dark as your work day ends. Sunlight is a source of vitamin D, which is vital to your health. It also boosts happiness hormones to help beat depression and stave off Seasonal Affective Disorder. If possible, take a walk midday or sit near a window at lunch to ensure you get a daily dose of sun exposure each day.

Out of this world Out of this world: TSC, BISD, SpaceX partner to give students a rare look into SpaceX facility BROWNSVILLE, Texas (October 15, 2021) - From welding and engineering to rocket building processes, Brownsville Independent School District students from the Texas Southmost College Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers recently had the rare opportunity of touring SpaceX and its Starbase launch site.
SpaceX, a private rocket production facility, test site and spaceport located near Boca Chica Beach, hosted nearly 100 students, during a pair of one and half hour tours, through their center with the goal of increasing career and job opportunity awareness in science, technology, engineering and mathematic (STEM) fields.
The tours, organized by TSC’s Director of Instructional Projects Prisci Tipton, Ph.D. and BISD, served middle and high school students of the 10 21st Century TSC sites located at Brownsville middle and early college high school campuses. “Our students need and deserve to have access to opportunities like this,” said Tipton. “STEM fields are the present and the future. Tours like this are our way of exposing them (students) to the possible, high-paying careers available to them right here in Brownsville and beyond.” Tipton added that most of the students participating in

For Armando Duran, a 12th grader at Rivera Early College High School, this experience was an eyeopener for what comes next as a college student next fall.
This tour is a dream come true for the aspiring computer engineer.
All of this makes Yoda’s actions last night hard to understand. Walking beside me through a parking lot, I became aware that she had fallen behind. I turned and saw that she was eating a week-old chicken leg.
Why would a dog with bottled water and gourmet dog food drink from a muddy puddle and eat a maggot infested chicken bone? (Not even KFC.) I wonder if God asks the same kind of questions when we turn to the worst of life even when God so freely offers the best? And I thought I was smarter than Yoda.
“Our goal with the 21st Century program is to help produce high school graduates who are college and career ready,” said Tipton. “What 21st Century does is offer programming and resources that align with state education agency standards, encourage interest in college and plant the seed of success so students realize that anything is possible.”
“A tour like this gives us (students), me, a chance to see the possibilities that are out there, in our own backyard,” said the 17-yearold. “Touring SpaceX is something I have wanted to do for a long time, and I never thought I would have the opportunity.”
First Baptist Church, La Feria
When I reached for the bone, Yoda showed her teeth and looked at me as if to say, “That would be a good way to lose a hand, bucko.” I wisely decided to let her fight the maggots for the bone.
the SpaceX tours are STEM and Career and Technology Education (CTE) students, who are active in clubs such as robotics, mathematics, algebra, coding and programming.

“I have been active with 21st Century for at least eight years, helping me discover and grow my love for everything engineering,” said Baez. “Being at SpaceX just helped me solidify and realize that my goals are obtainable right here close to home.” Tipton said she hopes that the partnership between TSC and SpaceX continues to flourish, so that more of TSC’s 21st Century students can have the opportunity to explore what it has to offer. Rivera Early College High School Principal Norma Canales agrees that the partnership between TSC and SpaceX, and the tours offered by the rocket production facility, will change lives. “BISD and TSC’s 21st Century grant has provided an excellent portal to the future for our students opportunities by exposing them to wonderful experiences,” she said. “A prime example is visiting SpaceX. Our students are afforded a front row seat of what our community offers and what will help them in their future. The jobs that SpaceX has available for those who exhibit hard work and dedication to their studies are many. The world and galaxy are at their fingertips.” To learn more about TSC’s Nita M. Lions Bite Gators The bulk of the ground yardage was carried by Rodriguez. He carried the ball 8 times for 129 yards and 2 touchdowns. That with his receiving and kick returning gave this rising star 186 all purpose yards for the game. Adding to the ground attack were sophomores Zion Dickerson and Isaiah Longoria. Dickerson carried the ball 13 times
for 85 yards. Adding his receiving and kick returns he clocked 191 all purpose yards against the Gators. Seniors Elijah Vela, EJ Serna and junior Travis Menchaca led the defense with 18, 18 and 16 tackles respectively. Six of Menchaca's 16 tackles were for a loss and 2 of those were quarterback sacks. Senior Vincent Chapa had 4 tackles for a loss with
fellow senior Chris Davila adding two with one being a sack. Youth, experience and depth are coming together for the Lions. Games remain against Kingsville and Hidalgo. Both of those teams have not been able to make much noise so far. The key will be to use those opportunities to be as sharp as possible for a deep playoff run.

The La Feria High School football team has set itself to dominate District 16-4A Division II again this year. After a come from behind 51-34 victory over the Grulla Gators, the Lions are 2-0 in district play and the overwhelming favorites to stay on top of the standings. The offense is rolling for Coach Oscar Salinas. In the Lion's first district victory over Zapata the team also scored over 50 points.
The game against the Gators may prove to be the biggest test for La Feria in district play. Down in the first half, the offense relied on big plays to take over the game, while the defense stepped up to stop the bleeding. The ground game was the bread and butter for the Lions. The team piled up 341 rushing yards and 5 rushing touchdowns. Senior Quarterback Aaron Trevino kept the
Grulla defense honest with an effective passing attack to complement the running game. Trevino passed for 100 yards and 2 passing touchdowns to go with his 110 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns on 6 carries. The passes were spread around to four different receivers: junior Justin Rodriguez, junior Julian Torres, sophomore Joaquin Trevino (TD), and sophomore Zion Dickerson (TD).

Someone is watching The Next Chapter Poem Kindness
We speak of beauty as an outside thing when really in comes from within. The love we show should come from deep inside, deeper than our greatest likes on the outside. The more we try to spread this type of love around, means much more than you are bound to come around. So, then no matter the problem, no matter the odds, no matter the people who try to bring you down, spread kindness all around. Poem by Selene Olguin 12 years old Matthew 22: 37-40 ESV And he said to him, you shall love the lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend on all the law and the prophets.

Darkness blinds my vision I don’t want to open my eyes as I fear someone is there I feel them staring Their gaze burning into my skin never looking away Surely this is a nightmare I reluctantly open my eyes blinking a few times to adjust to the darkness of my room As my vision slowly returns I calm as I look around to see my familiar bedroom The lamp post outside my window admits a soft orange hue that illuminates the room Taking a deep breath I feel my body relax I’m safe A yawn interrupts my thoughts and a wave of drowsiness washes over me I turn my head towards my window getting ready to slip right back into my dreams Then I freeze My whole body stiffens as I stare wide eyed at the large shadow figure staring outside my window I couldn’t bring myself to look away as the fear that’s running through my veins paralyzed me My breathing quickened as panic set in I quickly squeeze my eyes shut wishing for that thing to go away And when I cautiously open my eyes it’s gone I let out a sigh of relief think it’s gone until I see it again It’s inside my room
