The La Feria ISD Board of Trustees held a special meeting on June 23, 2021. One of the items discussed in the meeting was the La Feria High School Parking Lot Paving and Drainage Improvements. The board approved the amount of $1,001,038.00 to Texas Cordia Construction for the work. As of now, the plan is to have the parking lot finished by the first day of school as weather permits. purchase to Andy’s Service Center in the amount of $93,000 for the purchase of the upgrades. The board also approved $316,000 in funds for the purchase of upgraded air purification systems for school campuses. All these purchases are to be used with ESSER III funds. ESSER funds are federal relief funds that are meant to help schools recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and to help provide a safe environment for the return of students to campuses.

This grant program was authorized by the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act of 2021, and enacted on March 11, 2021. The following equipment was approved to be purchased using the Perkins Reserve Grant. This grant provides funds for targeted or specialized projects. It is for secondary and postsecondary institutions to strengthen all aspects of CTE Program of Study. The total amount for the purchase of the following equipment is $92,948.47. The purchases are for the Welding pathway. They are a Plasma Cutter System for $42,944.02, Ironworker for $22,942.50, Iron Bender equipment for $9,521.03 and a Tube bender for $17,540.92. Also, in a more recent School Board meeting that took place on August 9th the Perkins Reserve Grant was also brought up to approve an updated HVAC system for the welding side of the Ag workshop. The current workshop does not have an appropriate HVAC system. The approved upgrade would cost $51,200 and would be use with the grant monies.
