HARLINGEN, Texas – In celebration of Mexico’s Independence Day, the City of Harlingen is hosting the an nual “Mexican Independence Day Celebration,” an evening f i l le d w it h mu sic a nd pageantry of the Mexican culture from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2015, at the Harlingen Municipal Auditorium, 1204 Fair Park Blvd., Harlingen, Texas. The public is welcome to attend and there is no admission fee. The event will conclude when Consul of Mex ico, M i n ist ro Rodolfo Quilantán Arenas, will initiate the traditional “El Grito De Delores” ceremony, “The Shout for Independence,” representing one of the most iconic Mexican civic celebrations. WESLACO – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is increasing DWI patrols Aug. 21 – Sept. 7, which includes the Labor Day holiday weekend. During this period, DPS troopers will focus DWI patrols in high-risk locations at times when alcohol-related crashes are most frequent. “Impaired drivers who take to the roadways put other t ravelers i n har m’s way, and these increased patrols during the Labor Day holiday are designed to save lives by getting these dangerous drivers off the road,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw. “The Department urges all drivers to

DPS offers the following tips for safe travel during the Labor Day holiday: • Don’t drin k and drive. Designate a driver or take a cab. • Eliminate dist ractions, including the usage of mobile devices. • Buckle up everyone in the vehicle – it’s the law.
• Slow down – especially in bad weather, construction areas and heavy traffic. • Slow down or move over for police, fire and EMS vehicles as well as tow trucks and
travel may present additional challenges. • Make sure your vehicle is properly maintained before your trip begins.

AUSTIN, Texas - Texas leads the nation in total out put of wind energy, a ccord i ng t o t wo new reports from the federal Department of Energy. T he Lone St a r St ate has installed more than 14,000 megawatts of power - more than twice as much as California, the nexthighest state. The studies also show Texas has more wind capacity than all but five countries worldwide. Luke Metzger, director of Environment Texas, said wind energy is not only
good for the environment but also good for business. “But also potentially export that clean power to other states that are looking for ways to reduce their carbon emissions as well,” he said, “and really could help position Texas as an exporter of wind power.” According to the Energy Department, the continued g row th i n wi nd power solidifies the United States as a global leader in the sector.
