Animal Shelter in Need of Support By Nelda Briones Los Fresnos News

Got Beef?

Page 2

The Humane Society of Harlingen is always in need of support and recently they had reached shelter capacity. They are asking the community to consider adopting or fostering a pet. Sometimes adoption fees could be waived and fostering a pet comes at no cost. If you foster a pet all items needed to care for them are included. It really helps out the shelter even if you just foster. From a very young foster pets that need constant care to older pets that may need a loving temporary home. Some shelter pets get very stressed from

the noisy shelter environment and need that extra loving care that they might not receive otherwise. The Humane Society will be having some upcoming events and hope some pets could be adopted. On Saturday October 30th the shelter will be at the City of Harlingen’s Halloween in the park, which is a free city sponsored event that takes place from 5-8 p.m. The shelter will be there with some pups that will be available for adoption and will be giving out treats for your pets. The shelter was also invited by Harlingen Fan Convention to be in attendance to their Premier on November 6 &

7. They will have a puppy room set up for both days of the event. You will be able to adopt a pet for Free. Also, if you bring in a bag of food for either cats or dogs you will get 15% off your tickets. The Humane Society has events going on all year long to help pets get adopted. They also need items all year long to keep the shelter running. Some of the items on their wish list are: PET CARE SUPPLIES: Kitten/Puppy Bottles, Kitten/Puppy Formula, Kitten/Puppy Wet Food, Adult Dog Wet Food, Adult Cat Wet Food (Pate), Kitten/Puppy Dry Food, Adult Dog Dry Food, Adult Cat Wet Food, Bowls,

Heating Pads/Discs, Toys, Treats, Stuffed Animals, Fleece Blankets, Pet Beds, Kitchen Scales, Thermometers, Any Pet Medications (Specifically Probiotics, NutriCal, Lamisil), Diaper Rash Cream, Shallow Aluminum Baking Trays, Potty Pads, Baby Wipes, Travel Carriers, Wire Crates, Pop-Up Kennels, Collars (all sizes), NonRetractable Leashes, Flea Combes. MAINTENANCE SUPPLIES: Bleach, Laundry Detergent (Pods Work Best), Towles/Rags, Trash Bags (tall kitchen, large yard, and contractor), Blue Dawn Dish Soap, Clorox Wipes, Disinfectant Sprays, Bottle Water, Fly

Traps, Non-Toxic Rodent Deterrents, Hand Sanitizer, Paper Towels, Paper Plates/ Bowls, Plastic cutlery, Office Supplies (Printer Paper, Pens/Pencils, Staplers/ Staples, Paper Clips, Scissors, Tape/Dispensers, Dry Erase Boards, Dry Erase Markers, Sharpies, Post-It Notes, Postage Stamps), Trash Cans, Batteries(AA, AAA,9V). If you love animals and would like to be a volunteer you could always contact the shelter at (956) 425-7297 and make an application. You could also find more information on their Facebook page, The Humane Society of Harlingen or their website www.hshtx.org.

Crider’s Foods, an international canning company, is recalling approximately 263 tons of canned beef with gravy

Ask Our Dentists by DR. ADAM LALONDE

Q: Do dental implants truly offer a permanent solution for my missing teeth?

“Your Community Newspaper”

ANSWERED by DR.ADAM LALONDE:

Statistics show that 69% of adults ages 35 to 44 have lost at least one permanent tooth to an accident, gum disease, a failed root canal or tooth decay. More than 40 million people across the country “make do” with removable teeth. Half are unable to bite, chew or gum any food with a texture much firmer than that of soggy macaroni. Dental implants allow Dr. Adam Lalonde your teeth to have a secure foundation, which enables you to chew the foods you like while also improving your nutritional diet. Implants also help preserve the bone and jaw. Many dental implants can now be placed with little or no discomfort. In most cases, the procedure is performed in a routine dental setting on an outpatient basis and requires no hospitalization. The patient is able to go home the very same day. Frequently, our patients are able to continue wearing their existing teeth during the entire healing period and never have to go a single day without teeth. Not only do dental implants benefit the patients who are missing all of their teeth, and live with loose dentures, but they also help those individuals missing a single tooth or a few of their teeth. If you’re finally ready to do something about those loose dentures, or need to replace only one missing tooth, consider dental implants.

Se deben presentar pruebas de ambos lados con un voto para determinar la acción correctiva, si es que se tomará alguna. La evidencia para ambas partes será presentada y votada por el Concejo y el Alcalde en pleno con el voto mayoritario prevaleciente

“Fall football is a timehonored tradition in our state, but one regrettable decision to drink and drive could turn game day into a jail time or a deadly crash,” said TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams. ”Whether fans are tailgating with friends or celebrating their team’s big win, we want everyone to enjoy the season responsibly.” A person in Texas dies every nine hours and six minutes in a DUI-alcoholrelated traffic crash. Last year, 963 people in Texas were killed and 2,114 seriously injured because someone chose to get behind the wheel while impaired. Drinking and driving is 100-percent preventable

and can have serious physical, emotional and financial consequences that can last for years. Not only can a DWI hurt or kill someone, it can be expensive and cause legal hassles. It can create difficulty finding or keeping a job. It is shameful and embarrassing, and can result in a loss of trust and regret. A DWI crash can devastate the lives of victims and survivors forever. There are many sober ride options available. Designate a sober driver, call a taxi, use a rideshare service, stay put, call a friend or family member or use mass transit to ensure you don’t drive impaired. Throughout the fall, TxDOT’s Drive Sober. No Regrets. campaign will conduct outreach events at college campuses across the state in conjunction with football season. These events will include a video exhibit, featuring video testimonials of Texans who deal with the daily consequences of drunk driving, either as an offender or survivor.

These powerful stories and drunk driving facts can be found at www. facesofdrunkdriving.com. The Drive Sober. No Regrets. campaign is a key component of #EndTheStreakTX, a broader social media and word-of-mouth effort that encourages drivers to make safer choices while behind the wheel, like wearing a seat belt, driving the speed limit, never texting and driving and never driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. November 7, 2000, was the last deathless day on Texas roadways. #EndTheStreakTX asks all Texans to commit to driving safely to help end the streak of daily deaths on Texas roadways. The information contained in this report represents reportable data collected from the Texas Peace Officer's Crash Report (CR-3). This information was received and processed by the department as of April 26, 2021.
