The 48th Annual Lake Winnipesaukee Antique and Classic Boat Show By Rosalie Triolo Photos: Courtesy of Patti Bandy, Publicity Chair Almost 20 years ago two Lake Winnipesaukee Marine dealers, Jim Irwin and Vince Callahan, competitors yet good friends, attended the Clayton New York Antique Boat Show. Both of the same mind to preserve old antique boats, Irwin and Callahan worked tirelessly during the summer and fall of 1973 planning the first Annual National Northeastern Antique and Classic Boat Show. They successfully organized two “Woodie” boat shows at Weirs Beach Docks on Lake Winnipesaukee. The idea for the New England Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society (NEC-ACBS) was conceived at the 1976 Boston Boat Show. A group of wooden boat enthusiasts admired the show winning woodies the “Scotty Too,” a Gold Cup Racer belonging to Ted Larter, and Roy Howe’s prize winning 18 ft. Garwood, the “Norma Jean.” The two friends, Irwin and Callahan, charter members of the Antique and Classic Boat Society were involved in the early planning phases of the NECACBS. An interest was shown by a group of New England antique boat enthusiasts to form an organized New England group. The initial application containing over 40 signatures for a New England “Region” was signed by antique and classic boat owners from six New England states: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. The
members thinking that by calling it a “Region,” at some future date this term would be helpful for other chapters to get started. In early 1976 a constitution and by-laws were not only presented but approved. The “Region” officially accepted as the New England Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society. Its first president was Gerry Davidson. Originally, the annual NEC-ACBS was held at Weirs Beach Docks in Laconia. After 29 years, in 2003 the venue was moved to the Public Docks in Meredith, and in 2016 a third move was made to the Wolfeboro Town Docks. According to Patti Bandy, Publicity Chair for this year’s 48th Annual Lake Winnipesaukee Antique and Classic Boat Show will be held on Saturday July 30, 2022, from 9 AM to 2 PM at the Wolfeboro Town Docks. She also mentioned, “Now in our 48th year, we have a number of beautiful antique boats and cars at the show. In addition to our annual boat show, the New England chapter hosts many other events during the year. One is the Antique

There are various cruises in the fall and spring, but no dates have been set.” This year’s event will be the first to be held at the refurbished Wolfeboro Town Docks. On Friday, July 29 a Cocktail Reception will be held at the Downtown Grille Café at the Wolfeboro Town Docks. Hot and cold hors d’oeuvres will be served and a wide variety of wine, beer, coffee, tea and soft drinks. The cost per person for this evening’s gathering is $28.00, and the club will provide a $5.00 drink coupon to offset the cash bar. It is an opportunity to meet up with NEC-ACBS old friends and acquaintances. Besides the Annual Lake Winnipesaukee Antique and Classic Boat Show, the NEC-ACBS provides its members with the “Cutwater” a quarterly publication. The Cutwater Newsletter is the primary source of communication between membership of the chapter. It is a medium by which information is
shared to and from members and is designed to promote interest in and motivate participation in activities of the chapter on the part of both the current members as well as prospective members. How did the membership come up with the name “Cutwater?” There were several suggestions to come up with an appropriate name for the publication. One member thought the publication should be named the “Rusty Rudder,” which represents the steering of the vessel located at its stern. Another member suggested, “Why not be a lead chapter, up front so to say and cut the water!” The nautical term “Cutwater” which is the forward edge of the stern of the vessel, dividing the water as the vessel advances through the body of water. Thus “Cutwater” publication was born. Donations to Other Entities/Public Welfare, as financial resources allow, the NEC-ACBS anticipates providing benefits to members of the public through scholarships, education and facilities improvements which will enhance a wide range of boaters’ interests. Well known for his Commemorative Show Posters dating back to 1994 to present day, Peter Ferber is an admired and respected artist. His show posters of the Annual New England Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society are on display at the Art Place Gallery in Wolfeboro. In his own words, Peter Ferber reflects his thoughts, “In a world that is increasingly complex, impersonal, and high-tech, I find myself intrigued with the simple, timeless
and more comprehensible that often go unnoticed. My desire is not just to produce a pleasing image, but to have those who see my work share something of the idea, the feeling, the moment of inspiration that moved me to do the painting.” More information on the New England Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society can be found at necacbs.org. Steamboat Models by David Warren at the Wolfeboro Historical Society By Rosalie Triolo Photos by Rosalie Triolo The Wolfeboro Historical Society has preserved within its Museum Complex, the heritage, culture and customs of our community, Wolfeboro, “The Oldest Summer Resort in America.” The Museum Complex consists of four buildings: the Clark House, the oneroom Schoolhouse, the Firehouse and the Barn. Soon after the Revolutionary War in 1778, Henry Allard built the original Clark House. He then sold the house, and the new owners used the structure as a tavern for travelers needing a place to eat and sleep. The property changed hands once again, and in 1817 was purchased by Joseph and Comfort
(Weeks) Clark. One hundred years later, in 1917 the homestead was donated to the Town of Wolfeboro by Joseph Clark’s grandson, Greenleaf Clark. The Pleasant Valley one-room Schoolhouse, at times accommodated between 20 to 50 students of all levels of education, was built approximately around 1805 in South Wolfeboro. Original benches where students sat were replaced in 1895. The Schoolhouse was moved to the Clark Museum Complex in 1959. On display in the Schoolhouse is Ship Modeler, David Warren’s Steamboat Exhibit, The Maid of the Isles. According to Warren, “Dearborn Halley built the Maid of the Isles in 1877 at the Wolfeboro Shipyard (now known

Built for speed, the Maid was 96 feet long on the waterline, and sat 7 feet 6 inches deep in the water (which is as deep as the MS Mount Washington.)” Goodhue Hawkins Navy Boat Yard is now Goodhue Boat Company. Built for speed the Maid’s narrow hull caused the boat to tip making passengers feel unsafe. In 1885 she was sold at auction for $50.00 to Captain Herbert Blackstone, who rebuilt the hull, and made renovations upgrading the engine to 300 HP. With this much power the Maid beat the Mount Washington
in a race to Center Harbor. Blackstone in 1899 sold the Maid to Albert Hudson. The Maid joined the Cyclone and Eagle in his fleet of the Winnipesaukee Transportation Company. Warren used a 1/4 inch = 1 foot scale for the model of the Maid of the Isles. The Firehouse was built in 1981 by volunteers from the Wolfeboro Historical Society and Students from Kingswood High School. It is a replica of firehouses built in the early periods of the 1800’s and 1900’s. Displays of restored firehose carriers date back to that same time period. She changed hands 6 times during her 95-year life, spending the first 6 years as an ocean-going yacht out of Marblehead, MA. John Goodhue purchased the Swallow shortly after she was moved to Lake Winnipesaukee to begin charter services primarily for fishing parties. The Swallow was sold to Herbert Dumaresq in 1905, who built Kona Mansion in MoultonWRAPPED COMPOSITE borough, and was used to collect guests from private docks at The Weirs. In 1938 John Goodhue again purchased the Swallow transferring ownership to his son Nat. She was used for daily excursions by local residents, tourists
and children from summer camps. It was said, “The Swallow was one of the most beautiful boats to ever grace the waters of Lake Winnipesaukee.” Warren used a 3/4 inch = 1 foot scale for the model of the Swallow. When David Warren was 8-years old he built, with his father, his first plastic model of a Revell WWII warship which he bought at Woolworths with the money he earned from mowing lawns. On a sixth-grade field trip Warren was captivated by the Tall Ships, USS Constitution. When he was older, he moved up to the more expenDECKING sive wooden Italian Clipper Ships and delved into researching the history of steamboats on Lake Winnipesaukee. The official date that mail began to be carried on the Lake was 1892. The Old Uncle Sam was the third mail boat to

According to Warren, “The Essex Class USS Lexington aircraft carrier was the oldest in the United States Navy. In addition to having the longest run, the USS Lexington was the most famous.” Using published Navy plans, it took him 2-years to build this model. Because of the size of scale, Warren built a model of the WWII aircraft carrier on his kitchen table. He remarked, “This put me steps away from the refrigerator, and I love to eat.” A special occasion for Warren was when the then
2008, Presidential Candidate, Senator John McCain visited Wolfeboro to address a Town Hall meeting at the Wright Museum, and was interested in seeing the model of the USS Lexington where he had once been stationed during the Vietnam War. One of the most important ships was the T2 Tanker Navy Oiler. It was the fuel line out to the aircraft carriers, destroyers, and planes. The T2 had more guns than the destroyers or aircraft carriers. Warren built the ship in two halves to show all the devices used to pump oil in and out of the tanker. the war in Europe and in the Pacific. “The men, who served, had a part in creating the history during that period.” He spends hours researching the written history and looking up navy plans that allow him to see the intricate details in reproducing a ship model. Warren’s Steamboat Series includes The Lady of the Lake Paddle Boat – 1849–1893. Her history is important. The Boston, Concord and Montreal RR purchased the Lady in 1851. The Cocheco Railroad in 1852 launched its steamboat, the Dover. Smaller and slower than the Lady of the Lake, the Dover was not allowed to stop at the Weirs. This was determined by the B C&M RR, who controlled the docks. This resulted in a challenge to see whose steamboat was faster – The Lady or the Dover. The Dover’s hull was cut in two at midship to make it 120 feet long and was renamed the Chocorua. Although comparable in size the Chocorua was no match for the Lady’s speed. The Cocheco RR then built the first Mount Washington. Another challenge and another race resulted in the
Mount Washington being faster and taking over as the prominent steamboat on Lake Winnipesaukee. Since the small detailed parts for the Lady of the Lake model cannot be purchased, Warren made them by hand. All the engines for his model steamboats are made by hand from scratch. Warren loves researching and talking with Historical Societies who share with him the legacy of the Steamboat era, and what life was like in those times. Warren’s Steamboat models, the Maid of the Isles and the Swallow are on exhibit at the Wolfeboro Historical Society from Wednesday thru Friday from 10AM to 4PM and on Saturday 10AM to 2PM, July 1 – September 3. Warren’s Destroyer and Aircraft Carrier models are on display at the Wright Museum. He also has Steamboat displays at the Boat Museum, the Libby Museum, in Wolfeboro, and the Lake Winnipesaukee Museum in Laconia. A list of upcoming events at the Wolfeboro Historical Society is listed on their website: www.wolfeborohistoricsociety.org.

Sweet Summer Concerts By Kathi Caldwell-Hopper What could be better than an outdoor summer concert on a balmy evening? When the concert is near the water, you can arrive by boat, making the experience memorable. If the concert is a short walk away, you can park nearby and stroll to the music. In the town of Tuftonboro, the popular Summer Concert Series at the Pavilion enlivens summer. The series takes place on Thursdays at 6:30 pm at 19 Mile Beach in Tuftonboro, weather permitting during July and August. The concerts are presented in the pavilion by the town beach. Bring a lawn or
beach chair and spread out for an evening of fun and music. The concerts also offer concessions. Because the series takes place near the waterfront, you can choose to stay on your boat and listen to the music from the lake. Others park nearby and stroll to the concert/beach area. This year’s lineup, (already underway as of July 7), includes July 21 – Big Picture Band; July 28 – Ricky and the Giants; August 4 – The Echotones; August 11 - The Carolyn Ramsay Band; August 18 – The Raging Rockaholics; and on August 25, the series ends with Idol Hands. Gallery Owner Vynnie Hale Open’s His First Show uary, I have created a collection of 14 paintings that I am calling “A few of my favorite things”. It includes golf, my hometown, seasonal landscapes and architecture. My medium is oil. I love mixing colors and I find oil the best medium to do that. Oil is also the slowest to dry and since I am not a fast painter, it is what works for me. I enjoy the process and the challenge of detail, lighting and perspective. In this chaotic world I am so happy to have ART in my life. When I paint, I escape. I think about nature and how lucky I am to be surrounded by New England’s landscapes. I have learned a lot through this process and will use this experience when dealing with all artists who chose my venue to exhibit their work in future shows”.

Michael Vincent Band Returning to Bandstand Saturday Night As the month of July continues, another act graces the Wolfeboro Community Bandstand in Cate Park. The Michael Vincent Band will be making its Friends of the Wolfeboro Community Bandstand return on Saturday, July 23 at 7p.m. The Michael Vincent Band was born more than a decade ago in central New Hampshire. The band members were all students at the same school and stayed busy working as a trio and eventually picked up a fan base as word spread around the state. A road trip in 2009 landed the band in Mississippi, where the band members received a college education’s worth of blues schooling over the course of a few years. From there, the band began hitting the road more often, playing from San Antonio, Texas to Key West, Fla. to Boston and everywhere in between. The thousands of miles of road and hundreds of honky-tonks serve as the backdrop for what the Michael Vincent Band does, which is play the blues. The band has been playing around the state of New Hampshire this summer, along the way playing a lot and refining new covers and originals to add to the set. The Michael Vincent Band includes
Michael Vincent on guitar and vocals, Dan Mack on bass and vocals and Dan Hewitt on drums and mandolin. The Friends of the Wolfeboro Community Bandstand are excited to welcome The Michael Vincent Band to the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee this summer as the band brings a taste of what is to come on the blues front. The Friends of the Wolfeboro Community Bandstand summer concert series takes place each Saturday night throughout the months of July and August. The Wolfeboro Community Bandstand is located in Cate Park on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee in downtown Wolfeboro. The concerts start at 7 p.m. and run for two hours with a short intermission. The concerts are free to the public, though a pass-the-bucket offering is taken during intermission to help the Friends of the Wolfeboro Community Bandstand offset the cost of the summer concert series. In the event of inclement weather, there will be signs posted at the entrances to the park announcing the concert’s cancellation. There will also be a post on the Friends of the Wolfeboro Community Bandstand Facebook page.

They Speak: Voices of HenriChapelle American Cemetery On Tuesday, July 19th, the Wright Museum will welcome Aimee Fogg and Robbe Meers. This is the ninth program of the Wright Museum’s 2022 Ron Goodgame and Donna Canney Education Series. Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery located in Homburg, Belgium, is the final resting place for 7,992 American WWII servicemembers, including thirty-eight men from NH. In 2010, Aimee Gagnon Fogg began the journey of researching her great-uncle PFC Paul M. Lavoie and discovering the stories of the men of Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery. PFC Paul M. Lavoie of Nashua, NH, was just 21 years old when he gave his life at the Schwammenauel Dam in Germany. PFC Lavoie and thousands of his brothers in arms remained interred at Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery in Belgium at the request of their families. Many of these graves have been “adopted” by Belgian and Dutch citizens, like Robbe Meers, 17, of Zutendaal, Belgium, who honor the ultimate sacrifices made decades ago. Come join Aimee and Robbe as they
introduce the men of Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery and discuss the importance of remembrance. Aimee Gagnon Fogg is the founder and director of They Speak: Voices of Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, which is dedicated to collecting the personal stories and photos of the nearly 8,400 men of HCAC. She is also the author of several publications. Robbe Meers of Zutendaal, Belgium, is the adopter of many soldiers at both Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery and Netherlands American Cemetery. His interest in both World Wars began at age 5 and later evolved into learning about the men, “who fought and died for our freedom.” He will be pursuing postsecondary education in the fall. Doors open at 6 p.m., the program begins at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19th at the Wright Museum’s DuQuoin Education Center, 77 Center Street in Wolfeboro. Admission is $5 for members and $10 for non-members. Reservations are strongly encouraged and can be made online at www.wrightmuseum.org/lecture-series or by calling 603-569-1212.

The Legend of Georgia McBride on The Barnstormers Stage The Barnstormers Theatre presents heartwarming and hilarious The Legend of Georgia McBride, on stage July 14 - 23.
He’s young, he’s broke, his landlord’s knocking at the door, and he’s just found out his wife is going to have a baby. To make matters even more desperate, Casey is fired from his gig as an Elvis impersonator in a rundown, small-town Florida bar. When the bar owner brings in a B-level drag show to replace his act, Casey finds that he has a whole lot to learn about show business—and himself. Rating: PG-15, adult language.
“I am thrilled for our next show, Matthew Lopez’s The Legend of Georgia McBride. It’s a feel-good comedy that will leave The Barnstormers audience laughing out loud and dancing out of the theatre at the end of the night. Along with returning Barnstormers, Jordan Ahnquist and George Piehl, I am so excited for our audience to fall in love with the rest of the cast, and the way that they bring these characters to life on stage!” said Artistic Director Sarah Rozene. Capt. Jim Morash to Talk at Winnipesaukee Museum On Wednesday, July 20 at 7 PM, Captain Jim Morash will give a talk at the Lake Winnipesaukee Museum, as part of this summer’s focus on the 150th anniversary of the Mount Wa s h i n g t o n . Since seating is limited, advance reservations are requested, by e-mail to lakewinnipesaukeemuseum@gmail.com or by phone 603-366-5950. This program is free for Lake Winnipesaukee Historical Society members; for non-members there is a $5 fee. The Mount has been cruising the Big Lake since 1872, and the Lake Winnipesaukee Historical Society’s collection features numerous images and objects representing this icon of Lake Winnipesaukee. Morash will share stories from his 40-plus years on The Mount, with observations from his perspective piloting the vessel around the Big Lake. Starting as a deck hand when he was in college, and working through the ranks, Morash’s longtime love of the M/S Mount Washington eventually led to his current role as captain, co-owner, chief of operations and general manager.
From the o r i g i n a l steam-powered sidewheeler to the 230foot motorship cruising the lake today, the Mount Washington has been a fundamental part of life on Lake Winnipesaukee for 150 years. The Mount has welcomed visitors from around the world, employed generations of crew, and helped families to celebrate special occasions. In 2022, Mount Washington Cruises celebrates not only the legacy of the Mount Washington, but also the dedication of her crew, the loyalty of communities around the lake, and the enthusiasm for The Mount within the tourism community. The Lake Winnipesaukee Historical Society was founded in 1985 with the mission to promote and preserve the history and heritage of the Big Lake and its vicinity. Programs focusing on the Lakes Region and New Hampshire history are held on Wednesdays during the summer season. Located at 503 Endicott Street North, next to Funspot in the Weirs, the museum is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 AM to 4 PM, now through mid-October.

Anne Frank Exhibit Open all Summer at Wright Museum The story of Anne Frank is one that has struck a chord across generations and one that remains pertinent to the world everyone is living in today. This summer, the Wright Museum of World War II is bringing the story of Anne Frank to Wolfeboro with “Let Me Be Myself: The Life Story of Anne Frank” running now through the end of October. The exhibit is sponsored by the Anne Frank Center USA and was developed by the Anne Frank House. “It is our main exhibit of the summer, and it is here through the end of the season,” said Wright Museum Curator Justin Gamache. “Usually, we have two or three over the summer, but we
wanted this one to stay through the fall for school groups. This is important for school kids.” Using large-size pictures, “Let Me Be Myself” shows the story of Anne Frank from her birth in 1929 to her death in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945. Panels also include images and text about the world around Anne Frank, including the rise of Adolf Hitler, the persecution of the Jews and the Second World War. “It (the exhibit) tells the story with the whole history, but also has a contemporary component,” Gamache said. “It recognizes and celebrates differences, which is top of mind to school-age
kids.” The exhibit speaks to many societal issues that remain pertinent in today’s society. The exhibit has been at the Wright Museum before, but Gamache notes in its return it brings a new segment pertaining to the contemporary times. “Luckily, here in the United States, we were isolated from most of the world in many cases,” Gamache said. “Life here was much different than for most people in Europe.” The exhibit will give visitors to the museum an inside look into just what life was like for people living through the horrors of Nazi Germany. In conjunction with the “Let Me Be Myself” exhibit, the museum’s weekly lecture series will also see appearances from Tom White of the Cohen Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies
Rte.125 RV & Marine, Inc.
at Keene State College on Sept. 20 and from Holocast survivor and local Lakes Region resident Kati Preston on Aug. 16. The lecture series continues throughout the summer and takes place each Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the DuQuoin Education Center at the museum. Located on Center Street in Wolfeboro, the Wright Museum is a non-profit educational institution dedicated to recognizing and honoring the contributions and enduring legacy of WWII-era Americans. “Let Me Be Myself: The Life Story of Anne Frank” is open now and will run through Oct. 31. For more information about the Anne Frank exhibit, the lecture series or any of the Wright Museum’s offerings, visit wrightmuseum.org, call the museum at 603-569-1212 or e-mail info@ wrightmuseum.org.

Last Season for Yikes! Yikes! This is our last season. Thank you for 30 years!” Is the sign on the doors of Yikes! American Craft Gallery at 23 Main Street and Route 25 in Center Harbor. Diane Campbell, owner of Yikes! Gallery has announced that this will be their last season of the store. “We thank our customers and community and offer an ongoing customer appreciation storewide sale throughout this season with a plan of closing by Columbus Day weekend.” Started in 1992, Kevin and Diane Campbell purchased the former E.M. Heath Hardware building with dreams of an All American Craft Gallery to sell the handcrafted items by Diane and her sisters, brother in laws, parents and grandparents and also a Cafe for customers while shopping in town. Together the building was renovated and that is where the name Yikes! came from. “We kept saying Yikes! with all the projects we had to do, and it was a great name for all the exciting items we would carry. “A year later in November of 1993 the family was named “The Most Creative Family in America” by USA Weekend magazine. “We were ecstatic that our family got the recognition across our country for our gallery of our own creations”
While Diane ran the gallery and Kevin ran Campbell’s Cafe, they were also renovating the building for more businesses to join them. Over the next couple years the Cafe changed hands and Yikes! continued to carry the family’s handcrafted goods from blown glass, ornaments, pottery, jewelry, fibers, quilts, hand painted clothing, wooden ware, sculpture, original paintings and greeting cards. as well as the works of hundreds of local and American craftspeople and small businesses across the country. In 2002, 10 years after Yikes! began in Center Harbor, The Campbell’s expanded a second Yikes! Gallery to
downtown Laconia on Main Street where it operated until 2008. “I was running between 2 galleries and raising 2 children and couldn’t have done it without Kevin’s support and my mom’s help. “Yikes! Is a huge part of me and we will miss the artists and customers that we’ve known over the 30 years. We’ve watched families grow and those little kids are now bringing in their own kids. Thank you to them!”
“We have always been about supporting Made in America and shopping local business. It’s always made sense to keep business within our community. We are proud of what we have accomplished and grateful to the many employees and family members that been a part of Yikes!” “Kevin and I have worked hard, and it’s been a good run. It’s time for us to work on some other projects and we encourage everyone to come visit us, buy some handcrafted gifts, and get a bite to eat.” Center Harbor is a wonderful place to shop, work and spend time in. The Center Harbor beach and docks are across the street and our location is perfect for downtown visibility. We are looking for another business or two to take over the space in the fall.” Yikes! American Craft Gallery is open 11-4 Thursday-Saturday and Sunday’s 12-4 or when the open flags are flying through Columbus Day 2022. Please call 603-253-4966 for more information.

Music and Museums - New Hampshire Heritage Trail Featuring nearly two-dozen museums in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region, Merrimack Valley, and Seacoast, the New Hampshire Heritage Trail has become known for its diversity in programming, including its penchant for music. “There is nothing quite like a live music performance with a museum of regional, or possibly, national significance serving as backdrop amidst beautiful scenery,” said Trail President Jeff Barraclough. Two examples of The Trail’s emphasis on music can be found at Canterbury Shaker Village in Canterbury and Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth. Taking place every Sunday, 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., through September 11, Canterbury Shaker Village presents Music on the Green, each week pro-
viding a different style of music from a different genre. Upcoming concerts in July include the Jordan Tirrell-Wysocki Trio (July 3), The Wholly Rollers (July 10), River Sister (July 17), The Mink Hills Band (July 24), and Jim Dozet Duo (July 31). The concerts are free, but donations are encouraged.

NHBM Offers Opportunity to Learn to Sail Like a Pro
For those unfamiliar with the activity, sailing can be intimidating, a perception that can be adjusted through an experience within one of several Community Sailing’s classes this summer at the New Hampshire Boat Museum. Our Youth Learn to Sail classes are geared to ages 9 to 15, while our Adult programs are aimed at ages 16 and up,” said NHBM Executive Director Martha Cummings. “Our programs last for one week and cost $150 for residents and $180 for nonresidents. We have sailing scholarships available.” Held at Albee Beach on Lake Wentworth or on Lake Winnipesaukee, the program is available through the Town of Wolfeboro’ Parks and Recreation Department. “It’s a wonderful collaboration with the Town where NHBM cares for and provides all of the sailboats and safety boats, along with some training for the instructors, particularly on the safety boats,” added Cummings. In addition to beginners, classes for youth and adults are available for those with intermediate and advanced skills.
“It depends on the class and, in some cases, your skill level, as to what type of sailboat you’ll be using” noted NHBM Programs & Events Manager Anne Lennon. “There is definitely something for everyone, Regardless of skill level.” Former students “love” Community Sailing at NHBM. “Learning to sail is a great thrill and a fun way to get out on the lake as well as make new friends,” said past participant Lou Arinello. To learn more about Community Sailing, including how to apply for a scholarship and register, visit nhbm.org. Founded in 1992, NHBM is sponsored in part by Goodhue Boat Company, Eastern Propane and Oil, Stark Creative, KW Lakes and Mountains, Meredith Village Savings Bank and FL Putnam.
