MUSICFEST’18 + 30 EVENTS & EXHIBITIONS
VOYAGES OF DISCOVERY
28-30 SEPT 2018
PREMIER PARTNER
Welcome to this year’s Royston Arts Festival, brought to you by Creative Royston! We have a jam-packed programme of exciting creative events for you to enjoy. Once again we bring you a fun-filled Community Arts Event in Priory Memorial Gardens that promises to offer new creative adventures for all to try, and toe-tapping entertainment. Plus we’re taking the film festival on tour! The programme cover is the result of almost 300 local students, aged between 4 and 14, entering a competition on the festival theme, “Voyages of Discovery”. Entries covered sea and space exploration, travel, nature, human bodies and imagination. Local artist byLeigh used 20 of the entries to create the final piece. Find out more about the story behind the art during a special exhibition in Royston Library from 5th to 30th September, culminating in a charity auction of the work during the Royston Arts Society Autumn Exhibition in the Town Hall, in aid of Heathlands Animal Sanctuary. The festival theme - “Voyages of Discovery” - can be seen through workshops and performances as well as exhibitions from local students at Royston and District Museum, and from artists and photographers across Royston and beyond, at the Town Hall, Methodist Church, Curwens, Sycamore House and Royston Library. Other highlights include Cracked Voices (page 7), Bell Ringing in the Parish Church (page 9), the CADS production of Ghost Writer (page 8) and Find Your Voice Singing Workshop (page 10). The Creative Royston committee have been hard at work planning four key events to liven up the town centre, not only over festival weekend. On Sunday 23rd September, Royston MusicFest’18 (page 6) will get a little bigger with mini concerts throughout the afternoon in various venues, plus a gala concert at The Old Bull Inn. Follow the latest updates on www.RoystonMusicFest.uk. On Saturday 29th Priory Memorial Gardens will host the Community Arts Event from 1pm to 4pm, with stories, dance, music, craft and much more (page 11). Later the same day, join us for and evening with author, radio host and musician Andrew Mueller at Royston Library (page 12) - you can also meet the winners of our Creative Writing Competition, supported by Royston Rotary Club and David’s Bookshop. Then on Sunday evening the festival will draw to a close with the Finale Concert at the Parish Church, where the rafters will be raised by local musicians from Royston Schools Academy Trust, local choral groups and Royston Town Band, along with special guests (page 13). If you can’t wait until 28th-30th September to #getcreative, then join us for the Voyages Film Festival, in association with Herts and Beds Cinema Club, taking place between the 20th and the 27th September at three venues near Royston (pages 5 and 7). I do hope you’ll make a weekend of it and join in with a range of events. And while you’re enjoying them, do share your thoughts and photos via our Facebook and Twitter feeds using the hashtag #RoystonArtsFest2018.
