About Face
Doobi Puts His Face On
is based on paintings created by Nursery students in the Early Childhood Department at Lehrman Community Day School. Two instances of Hebrew are used in our story: Doobi hcus (DOO-bee)—Teddy Bear: the diminutive of Dov cus (DOVE), the word for bear; Boker Tov cuy reuc (BOE-kehr TOVE)—Good Morning.

“Boker Tov, Doobi!” Mommy called from the kitchen.
Doobi jumped out of bed and looked in the mirror.
“Oh, no,” he cried. “My face! I look like a frog!”
“That’s better,” he said, as he moved his eyes off his ears.
“Whoops,” said Doobi, I look like I have a moustache.
Doobi moved his bowtie down to his chin, but then‌ what’s this? Three eyes?!
Doobi fixed his nose, but then his mouth slid on to his bowtie!
“Ohhhh Noooooo,” sighed Doobi, there goes my bowtie on to my cheek!
But when he moved his bowtie, Doobi tried to speak‌ and all that came out was
mwamwamwamwamwamwa.
Finally Doobi looked in the mirror at his pink face. Everything was in place. “Check! said Doobi.
His two eyes were in place. “Check!” said Doobi.
His nose was in the middle. “Check!” said Doobi.
His mouth was next…and working! “Check!” said Doobi.
And his bowtie was under his chin. “Check!” said Doobi.
“Doobi!” his Mommy called. “Come to the table and sit in your place.”
“Check! called Doobi, and he ran to the kitchen, and sat in his place,
and ate all his breakfast, and went off to school to learn.
The beginning.
