Water Works & All Ears
(Left) Nursery students took brushes (and rollers) and water and painted the school…wet , during Community Helpers Week. (Right) The PA donated three listening centers to our Pre-K classes. Four students can listen simultaneously to stories on a CD while reading along with the books.
Middle schoolers created portrait busts from clay, using the additive process of modeling. Their objective was to portray likeness and expression in a three dimensional portrait. The lesson is one in a series on exploring sculpture.

LCDS is well represented at a timely national conference taking place right here in Miami Beach as we go to press. Board chair Roger Miller, trustee Richard Lehrman, and Director of Constituent Services Andrea Schleider are participating in intensive sessions on fundraising, and making day school more affordable, led by Harry Bloom. HOS Rabbi Seth Linfield is in a series on Teaching Tanakh with Dr. Moshe Sokolow and on Religious Purposefulness with Dr. David Pelcovitz. Rabbi Linfield will be presenting an LCDS best practice to the whole conclave on Sunday morning. Rabbi Linfield will then be part of a PEJE/ Measuring Success discussion group on revising the Jewish Day School Peer Yardstick benchmarks in light of the current economic cycle. The conference is under the auspices of Yeshiva University’s Institute for UniversitySchool Partnership and Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration.

Core Knowledge Visitor
Dr. Carole Richardson of the Core Knowledge Foundation visited LCDS on Feb. 11 and 12 for observation and consultation and on Feb. 13 for an Implementation Analysis. Dr. Richardson observed Core Knowledge lessons in classrooms, then met with teachers to interview them about their implementation of the CK Sequence. On Friday, teachers worked with Dr. R to assess the extent of our implementation and our personal and school goals. This visit was part of the requirements for becoming an Official CK School.
