From top floor to Lobby, hallways were filled with a most excellent array of student artwork. Projects ranged from recycled sculpture to Renaissance portraits, all under the guidance of teacher and artist extraordinaire Deborah Brown.

Ephraim Katzir k"z

Israel’s fourth president, Ephraim Katzir, died on Saturday, May 30 at the age of 93. Prior to the burial, Katzir lay in state at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, an institution on whose faculty he served from its 1949 founding up until his death. At the ceremony, incumbent president Shimon Peres referred both to Katzir and to the late president’s brother, Aharon Katzir, who was also a scientist. Aharon Katzir was killed in a terrorist attack at Lod Airport (now Ben-Gurion International Airport), which took place 37 years to the day prior to the late president’s death. Peres spoke of how, following his brother’s death, Ephraim Katzir agreed to serve as president at the request of then-prime minister Golda Meir, succeeding Zalman Shazar in the presidency.

Moving Up Day in 1. Toddler, 2. Nursery, and 3. Pre-Kindergarten. 4-5. Shavuot is Z’man Matan Torahteinu – the time of the giving of our Torah, and Rabbi Glickstein of Temple Beth Sholom and Rabbi Zohar of the Florence Melton Adult MiniSchool discussed the wonder of this gift. 6. Rabbi Ben Zaken, a Sofer Stam (Sefer Torah and Mezuzah), explained and demonstrated his craft to third, fourth, and fifth graders.

The Wiz…was wonderful! Photos: Zachary Shultz

Prior to the art exhibit, a Thank You reception was held to honor LCDS supporters and volunteers. Recognition awards were presented by board chair Roger Miller to the 2008-09 PA Co-Presidents, Amy Siama and Joi Fiske, and to the Annual Campaign Co-Chairs, Rosalind Lanes, Rochelle Finvarb, Aarti Taubman and Shari Seiner.

After a smashing two night run at The Lehrman Playhouse, The Wiz is now available on CD and DVD—stop by the school office to make your purchase. Musical Director Michael Day announced that a Gala Cast Party is scheduled for Monday, June 8 at 4:00 pm (with pick-up at 5:30 pm—after all, there’s no place like home).

What’s for Lunch?

The menu for Mon, Tue, and Wed is a quiz! Take a guess at what’s for lunch, then find out if you guessed correctly when it’s time to eat. Monday, June 8 It’s long and thin and contains the letter “s,” handle it neatly and don’t make a mess.

Tuesday, June 9 I’m usually eaten round about noon, you may try a fork, but i’d suggest a spoon.
