Dear LCDS Family, Kesher L’Yisrael, Connection to Israel, strengthens the connection between families with young children, early childhood educators, and Israel. Our Early Childhood Department is an active participant in Kesher. We make Israel a significant part of each day in the early childhood classroom. Educators also work with families to create meaningful connections to Israel—joined with the Jewish Studies curriculum—that extend to the home. This provides a developmentally appropriate venue supporting Jewish identity formation. For a detailed description of Kesher L’Yisrael, and great photographs from our Israel trip, visit lehrmanschool.org/kesher Kesher L’Yisrael is sponsored by the Center for the Advancement of Jewish Education (CAJE) and funded by Makom in conjunction with the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. Exciting Sports Program@Lehrman

Our girls’ volleyball season began with a tough loss to St. Patrick 21-4, 21-9, 21-13. The girls played well and improved each game. Boys’ varsity flag football topped Hochberg Prep 310 behind a great team effort. Our boys threw for two touchdowns, ran for another, and turned an interception into a score. Junior Varsity flag football won as well, defeating Hochberg Prep 12-8. Defense played a huge role with five quarterback sacks. Schedules of upcoming games are online lehrmanschool.org/sports

Middle School Water Banquet LCDS 5th, 6th, and 7th graders joined with their guests from Hochberg Prep to learn “hands-on” about water conservation. As ‘banquet’ delegates representing Middle East nations, Argentina and the United States, students examined the geopolitical realities of water availability in the Middle East. The resource issues hit home when the Egyptian delegation of 23 received eight cups of water, while the Argentinean delegation of two received five gallon jugs. The students also learned how the importance of water to the region is reflected in the observances surrounding Sukkot. The event was coordinated by Hochberg assistant principal Jodi SnyderDavodic and LCDS Dean of Education Jodi Bruce.

“Israel” shares some of its precious water resources with “Jordan.”

Did we miss you at Passport to Learning? If you were one of the few families unable to attend our curriculum night on Sept. 24, you missed out on a worthwhile evening…and a bonus gift!
