Proving Grounds…

Here is a peek into how to navigate your journey: 1. As you begin the adventure, you will receive your child’s Passport at the ‘customs agents’. 2. Check your map to find your child(ren)’s classes. 3. At each stop along your journey, see what your children will be learning this year. 4. In each classroom, there will be a station where you will receive a ‘visa’ sticker to validate your visit. 5. Do not forget to speak with Head of School Rabbi Seth Linfield, who will also stamp your passport(s). He will be walking around the school; however, should you miss him on your travels, he will be in the lobby near the end of the evening. 6. Before you head home (do not forget to go on safari at the PA Book Fair!) stop by our ‘customs agents’ who will exchange your passport for a gift. Enjoy and Learn! Shabbat Shalom, Jodi Bruce, Dean of Education

…our fourth graders came face to face with a volcano while learning how the pressure of the magma pushes through the surface. Meanwhile, third graders jumped rope to study how different parts of the skeleton move while in motion.

Good, Sweet Wishes

During this period, our community will be finding fresh ways to express the attention to others that is critical to mitzvot beyn adam l’h.avero (commandments as to interpersonal behavior). Each student will design a Shanah Tovah card with a relevant message. On Thursday, September 25, students and faculty will exchange cards during tefillah; a candy will be attached to each card representing a sweet New Year. In addition, a large fruit tree will be placed in the school entrance. Each class will write out a global wish on an apple-shaped card, to be hung on the tree. Students in first grade and above will be visiting a local canal for a communal tashlikh (literally, to toss or throw away) ceremony. We will be throwing bread crumbs into the water, in a symbolic repudiation of our shortcomings. In advance of Yom Kippur, we will be using age-appropriate videos and reflective group discussions to explore teshuvah (repentance). The editorial staff of the Lehrman Link wishes all of our loyal readers a happy, healthy and sweet New Year.

Many of the books are for young readers. These books represent the best authors and illustrators in children’s publishing. We are passionate about reading and hope you and your family can be a part of our Book Fair experience. Your child will visit the book fair to make a wish list on Tues, Sept 23. Please visit our fair to make selections from your child’s wish list. Please stop by the Classroom Wish List Display as well. Add books to our classroom shelves by purchasing books and donating them to your child’s class. We still need volunteers! The Sign-Up sheet is posted in the school lobby. This year we have a new opportunity to bring more books to our classrooms. We call it One For Books. When shopping at the fair, donate just $1 or loose change and sign a Book Slip with your child’s name; we will display it at our Fair. All money collected goes directly to purchasing books for the LCDS Library. Scholastic Book Fairs will match the One for Books dollars we raise with a donation of up to one million books to three non-profit organizations devoted to improving reading skills among children: Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc., National Center for Family Literacy and Toys for Tots. We appreciate your dedication to creating lifelong readers. See you at our Book Fair!
