Dear LCDS Families, Current research demonstrates that the value of collaboration builds powerful learning communities within schools. The most successful schools foster collaborative environments where teachers can share their best practices and most perplexing challenges with one another. Such an atmosphere gives teachers a vehicle for sharing ideas, taking risks, improving the quality of their teaching, and reflecting critically on their classroom practices. Teachers who work together see substantial improvements in student achievement, behavior, and attitude. Thanks to a special grant from CAJE and Project Day School Excellence, Ann Delehant, consultant from The National Staff Development Council, visited our school earlier this week to coach our faculty on ways to use our time together effectively. We anticipate that our teachers will be working closely together throughout the school year and will find themselves exceptionally prepared for classroom instruction. Students in turn will sense additional consistency both in the program and in teacher expectations. Collaboration allows the faculty across disciplines to understand one another better and helps to reinforce one another’s teaching. This creates appropriate learning environments in which students with diverse learning styles can maximize their learning potential. We are committed to providing the full time and resources necessary to foster a positive culture of collaboration and are excited to build powerful learning communities at LCDS. Shabbat Shalom.
