Be an LCDS Prospector

Spread the word, keep an eye out for potential families.

The magic performed each day on Lehrman Drive is not a sleight of hand. It is a faculty and staff of dedicated professionals responding to the needs of your child. It is education at its best, in a caring, thoughtful, consciously Jewish environment. What it must not be is a secret! Spread the word. Your words from your mouth are our most effective marketing. Stop by, call, or e-mail for our Plant-a-Seed Packet: fliers for your condo mailroom or your son’s karate buddies; postcards for your gym or dentist’s office; or just volunteer to call one inquiring family— our Packet and your prospecting will help us grow. Keep in touch! Linda K. Schaffzin, Dir. of Admissions 305.866.2771 x21 lschaffzin@lehrmanschool.org

Bible Q&A

Five middle schoolers represented LCDS at a local H. idon Tanakh, a Bible Contest, held Thursday at Jacobson Sinai Academy, and when the last student was left standing it was…7th grader Sabina; runner-up was Rachel. Ayala Zeev, our chair of Hebrew Language & Literature, served as a judge; Davd Hazan, LCDS Jewish Studies teacher prepared the students for the competition.

The Other Big Event in the Nation’s Capital

Seventh graders are counting down the days (29!) till they board a flight for Washington, DC and set off for four education-packed days—from March 29 through April 1—of touring Capitol Hill, studying at the Smithsonian Institution and the U.S. Holocaust Museum, and visiting the National World War II Memorial, among other activities. The Link will carry all the highlights.

Ayala Zeev Recognized for Excellence & Creativity

Seven teachers in Jewish educational institutions in Greater Miami have been awarded the Teacher Excellence and Creativity Award for 2008, including our own Ayala Zeev, Chair, Hebrew Language and Literature, World Languages, and NETA. In presenting the award, CAJE, who administers the award for Targum Shlishi, described Mrs. Zeev as “a highly respected, innovative educator who collaborates with her colleagues in all departments to integrate Hebrew language throughout the school…” It is an honor for us at LCDS to have Ayala as our colleague. Yasher Koach and Mazal Tov on this recognition.

Quote, Unquote

In an article in The Jewish Journal, ECD art teacher Ms. Ceci reflected an LCDS frame of mind, reacting to a community lecture by Bev Bos, world reknown early childhood educator, who said “children must have a childhood.” Added Ceci: “We grow up with sayings such as ‘you’re going to spoil the child,’ (but) being fair is giving each child what they need.”
