Powertrain
With great appreciation of customer desires, Aston Martin has committed to continuing its 25year dynasty of V12-engined flagships with the most powerful V12 engine yet seen from the brand in its core sports car range. With a class leading 835PS and 1000Nm of torque the new V12 engine is unmatched. So much so that in fact, this engine delivers the highest specific power output ever from an Aston Martin V12 engine at 160PS/ Litre. As such the 2024 Vanquish sits at the summit of a relentless evolution, one which has seen the power and torque outputs of Aston Martin’s V12 flagship model almost double since the introduction of the first Project Vantage concept back in 1999.
Hardware highlights of the new V12 engine include a strengthened cylinder block and conrods, redesigned
cylinder heads incorporating reprofiled camshafts, plus new intake and exhaust ports. Repositioned spark plugs and new higher flowrate fuel injectors deliver optimised combustion for class leading performance and efficiency gains. In addition, new higher speed, reduced inertia turbochargers deliver increased performance and throttle response.
Exploring some of those highlights in more detail, to help take the new V12 engine to increased levels of performance new reduced inertia turbochargers with a higher maximum speed (+15%), have been fitted to harness the increased energy in the exhaust and to provide increased airflow to the engine. New fuel injectors with 10% higher flowrate enable the engine to reach its peak power while also ensuring it meets its emissions targets.
To make this latest generation Twin-Turbo V12 the most responsive-ever offered, as well as the most powerful, Vanquish gains a new Boost Reserve function. This new technology allows for even more reactive power delivery, particularly
beneficial for overtaking manoeuvres as well as dynamic driving.
Boost Reserve increases turbo boost pressure above what would normally be required for any given part throttle position, so it is ready to go when full power is needed. This is done during partial throttle demands, imperceptibly to the driver, by balancing the throttle flap position (to restrict the intake flow), and the intelligent wastegate in the turbo (to fine tune the increased intake pressure) to match what the driver expects. When the driver demands full power/ torque, the throttle releases the accumulated boost pressure for immediate response.
Additional performance gains have been found with the help of Aston Martin Aramco Formula One® Team technical partner, Valvoline, who have supplied the latest high performance engine oil for Vanquish. Flowing through a larger engine oil cooler with 50% more heat rejection capability, the fully synthetic engine lubricant is kept at its optimal operating temperature,
helping to maintain optimum engine oil pressure in all situations.
For the first time on an Aston Martin front-engined V12 sports cars, the renowned ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox is paired with an electronic rear limited slip differential (e-diff). This e-diff is integrated into the electronic stability programme (ESP), providing a direct link to the car’s dynamic behaviour and allowing wheel slip to be managed across the rear axle to optimise traction in all conditions.
Unlike a conventional mechanical limited slip differential, this e-diff can transition from fully open to 100% locked in 135 milliseconds. Combined with the latest ESP technology, this significantly improves dynamic capability, providing greater agility in low and medium speed cornering, whilst offering greater control in oversteer and high-speed lane change conditions. As such it is integral to the dynamic character of Vanquish, ‘shortening’ the car in tighter corners by giving it more rotational response to steering inputs, while
also providing assured stability and composure through fast sweeping curves.
With a Final Drive Ratio (FDR) of 2.93:1, Vanquish is optimised for top speed, hitting 214 mph or 345 km/h. A new transmission calibration enhances shift speeds and driver interaction, further emphasising the engagement and performance feel of the new model.
Aston Martin Chief Technical Officer, Roberto Fedeli said: “It was inconceivable that a new Aston Martin flagship should be powered by anything other than a state-ofthe-art V12. To this end our engineering team completely reworked our existing 5.2-litre Twin-Turbo engine from block casting to cylinder heads. With ambitious targets for gains in power and torque, plus equally tough goals for improvements in driveability, efficiency and global emissions compliance, the result is a modern masterpiece. One which delivers performance characteristics unmatched by any other car in its category. As such Vanquish makes an emphatic

statement, with its abundant power and prestige surpassed only by the passion and skill poured into its creation”.
Body structure
Such a formidable powerplant demands an equally peerless chassis. One which sets new standards for structural rigidity and provide the ultimate platform for a state-ofthe-art suspension system capable of delivering impeccably tuned dynamics.
Like its acclaimed stablemates, DB12 and Vantage, Vanquish is built around a bonded aluminium body structure with double wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension. Enhanced to deliver more focused and engaging dynamics, additional underbody stiffening components provide a 75% increase in lateral stiffness over Aston Martin’s previous flagship, the DBS 770 Ultimate.
Some 80mm longer in wheelbase (the increase made between the A-pillar and front axle) the chassis has received a stiffer engine cross brace to provide greater torsional rigidity and lateral stiffness between the front suspension towers. This
translates into improved mounting stiffness for the Bilstein DTX dampers; new to Vanquish and with a bespoke calibration, enabling more efficient damping performance and enhanced refinement.
A new front undertray and front crossmember bring additional gains in stiffness, the thicker front undertray supporting front subframe’s horizontal stiffness for improved steering feel and response. Re-engineered and repositioned rearwards to increase mounting point stiffness for the double wishbone front suspension, the new crossmember brings tangible improvements in on and off-centre steering feel.
Increased lateral strengthening between the rear suspension towers improves mounting stiffness of the new Bilstein DTX dampers for greater stability and an enhanced feeling of connection between body, suspension and rear axle. Completing the suite of structural improvements, a thicker rear undertray improves horizontal stiffness of the rear subframe horizontal stiffness, increasing rear axle stability and optimising vehicle dynamic balance.
F80: FERRARI’S NEW SUPERCAR
Ferrari today unveiled the F80 and wrote a new chapter in the history of legendary supercars bearing the Prancing Horse badge. The F80 will be produced in a limited run of just 799 examples and joins the pantheon of icons such as the GTO, F40 and LaFerrari by showcasing the best that the Maranello-based marque has achieved in terms of technology and performance.
Ever since 1984, Ferrari has periodically released a new supercar that represented the pinnacle of cutting-edge technology and innovation of its era and that was destined to become enshrined in popular culture. Intended for the most discerning clients of the brand, these cars immediately became legends in their own lifetime, making an indelible mark not only on the history of Ferrari, but on the history of the automobile itself.
The latest addition to this family, the F80, is tasked with embodying the ultimate in engineering for an internal-combustion-engined vehicle and employs all the most advanced technological solutions, including latest-generation hybrid technology for the powertrain, to achieve unparalleled levels of power and torque. Every aspect of the architecture is conceived to maximise performance, from the carbon-fibre chassis and extreme aerodynamic solutions far beyond anything seen before in a roadlegal car, to the new active suspension optimised to let the driver wring every ounce of performance from the car on the track.
On the Road
Unlike anything else in the current supercar world, the F80 combines all these attributes with uncompromising levels of usability on the road, where it can be driven with ease. This ability shaped every choice made in terms of technology and architecture to achieve the goal, which at first sight seems impossible, of creating a track-oriented supercar that’s just as driveable as a production range model.
All this means that the driver will spend even more time in the car and can truly get to know and revel in its performance and the thrilling driving experience it offers. The architecture of the F80 is so extreme that the layout chosen results in a narrower cabin with a driver-centric layout, which nonetheless still offers excellent space and comfort for a passenger. This choice had crucial benefits in terms of minimising drag and weight.
The cockpit area therefore has a distinct single-seater feel, despite the fact that the car is homologated for two occupants, resulting in a architecture that we could call “1+”. The primary reason for this choice was to minimise width, to the benefit of aerodynamics (with less drag) and weight saving. This concept is completely in keeping with the motorsport world from which this car not only draws inspiration but also inherits technological solutions.
As has always been the case with the Ferrari supercars preceding the F80, the powertrain is based on the finest expression of technology in motorsport. The GTO and F40 were powered by a turbo V8, because Formula 1 cars used turbocharged engines in the 1980s. Today in both Formula 1 and the World Endurance Championship (WEC), powertrains consist of turbo V6 ICE engines mated with an 800 V hybrid system. It was only natural then that this architecture - the same architecture used by the 499P, which has taken two consecutive victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans - would be transferred into the new F80.
Here though the powertrain is further complemented by the introduction, for the first time ever on a Ferrari, of electric turbo technology (e-turbo), which, with an electric motor installed between the turbine and compressor of each turbo, allows for an extraordinary specific power output and instantaneous response from low down in the rev range.
Aerodynamics play a key role on the F80, with solutions such as the active rear wing, rear diffuser, flat underbody, front triplane wing and S-Duct working in concert to generate 1000 kg of downforce at 250 km/h. This result is further enhanced thanks to the active suspension, which contributes directly to generating ground effect. Performance is boosted by the electric front axle, which brings fourwheel drive capability to make even more effective use of the torque and power on tap, and the new brakes with motorsports-derived CCM-R Plus technology.
As with all the supercars preceding it, the F80 marks the start of a new design era for Ferrari, with a more tense, extreme design language accentuating its race-bred soul. There are clear references to cues borrowed from aerospace, which underscore the cutting-edge technology and elegant engineering of each and every technical solution. But there are also nods to its hallowed progenitors which clearly declare the illustrious lineage of the F80.
60 YEARS OF THE GOLDFINGER PHANTOM: A TIMELESS BOND OF LUXURY AND LEGEND

Rolls-Royce motor cars have featured in a dozen James Bond films throughout the film franchise’s history. However, the marque’s most enduring and memorable role is in the 007 film, Goldfinger.
This cinematic classic came to define the essential qualities of a Bond film; the design, the locations, the gadgets, and the eccentric adversary. Today, on the anniversary of the film’s premiere on 17 September 1964, Rolls-Royce explores the story of Goldfinger and the British icon that featured in it – the Rolls-Royce Phantom.
The film sees eponymous villain, Auric Goldfinger, driven by his henchman, Oddjob, across Europe in an exquisite 1937 Rolls-Royce
The coachwork of this imperious motor car holds a secret – it is made from two tonnes of solid 18-carat gold, which Goldfinger is smuggling from England, across the continent and over the challenging Furka Pass into Switzerland. Once safely installed in Auric Enterprises, he uses his alpine smelting plant to disassemble his Rolls-Royce, melting down the body panels into gold bars. With the original coachwork replaced, he returns his motor car to England and repeats this nefarious crossing.
Goldfinger’s master plan, named ‘Operation Grand Slam’, is far more ambitious; he plans to irradiate the gold stored in the Fort Knox Bullion Depository with an atomic device,

rendering it worthless, driving the value of his own reserves into the stratosphere.
Goldfinger’s choice of a Phantom III for smuggling gold is as brilliant as the precious metal that compels him. Its generous proportions allow for a significant amount of contraband to be concealed, and the gold’s ‘divine weight’ would do little to hinder this potent motor car’s performance, even on the demanding alpine roads. Phantom III was the first V12-powered Rolls-Royce in history, producing 165bhp from its 7.3-litre engine, a 37.5% increase in power from its predecessor, the 120bhp Phantom II.
Phantom III was also the last motor car to be developed by Henry Royce
himself, prior to his death in 1933. It includes a number of innovations that would have greatly improved those smuggling runs for Goldfinger. Its suspension system incorporates fully adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers which can be controlled from the driver’s seat, allowing Oddjob to fine-tune the ride depending on whether the motor car was laden or not.
The specific motor car used by Goldfinger is equipped with an open front and enclosed rear ‘Sedanca de Ville’ – or Town Car –body by coachbuilders Barker. Its commanding presence prompts Bond himself to remark, “She’s a beauty… Phantom III ‘37, isn’t she?” as Oddjob loads Goldfinger’s signature gold golf club and
harlequin umbrella into the boot outside Stoke Park, the private sporting estate where Bond first meets them.
Goldfinger’s Phantom III wears the numberplate ‘AU 1’, a reference to the chemical symbol for gold on the periodic table of elements. While this was an obvious choice for the filmmakers, its designation has more simple origins. AU was the original British numberplate code designating that a motor car had been registered in Nottingham and AU 1 was issued in 1901 for one of the first vehicles in the area. After being used in the film, it was subsequently transferred to other Rolls-Royce motor cars, following its big-screen debut.
Prior to its role in the film, this Phantom III was originally commissioned for American-born Huttleston Rogers Broughton, who settled in England and became the first Lord Fairhaven of Anglesey Abbey. Challenging the conventions of the time, it was painted almost entirely in black, including all lamp housings, bumpers, wheel discs and even the rear-view mirror surround. It included a white coachline, which highlighted the bonnet sides and top, and the chrome radiator shutters were sandblasted for a more subdued finish. The instruments included imperial and metric measurements, as it would be used by Lord Fairhaven on roads in Britain and Continental Europe. The motor car’s signature two-tone yellow and black finish was then applied for its appearance in Goldfinger.
At 14:00 BST, on 25 October, RollsRoyce will open a new chapter in the ‘AU 1’ Phantom story, furthering the legacy of this extraordinary motor car, and Rolls-Royce’s connection to the James Bond film franchise.

Emotional intelligence also plays a significant role in understanding and managing team dynamics. SHAYMA ALSHAREEF INTERVIEW
What inspired you to become the first Saudi woman to write in the science fiction and fantasy genres, and how did you approach these uncharted territories in Saudi literature?
First of all I am so happy to be hosted by The Luxury Network. I have always been a fan. second of all and i’m gonna be honest I chose this field of writing since this is what I have always loved to read as a child and an adult. Reading these kinds of stories took me always to the level of amazement and I always wondered how the writer managed to create a whole world with its people and one day I found myself doing the same. I guess the real reason is I love a good story so I worked to tell a good story.
One of your novels ranked as the third most downloaded book on Amazon. How do you feel about the global reception of your work, and what role do you think digital platforms play in elevating Arabic literature?
Honestly, when that happened I could not believe my eyes. We are at a very privileged era in time where we are all connected one way in another and despite our differences we share the human experience with all its feelings, reactions, and adventures. Digital platforms gave up even a bigger stage.
How did it feel to win the Ibn Arabi International Award for Arabic Literature in 2023, and what significance does this award hold for you and the Saudi literary community?
I felt humbled, happy but also responsible since I’m the first Saudi and a first woman to receive this award. but I Have achieved a bigger award which is people’s love and feedback. That is priceless and now I want to see many people win this award and more. This year 2024 I was a jury in the same award and it felt like a give back for me.
What challenges did you face as a female writer in Saudi Arabia when entering the male-dominated fields of science fiction and fantasy, and how did you overcome them?
to be honest I have always been goal oriented. In every new challenge you will find some obstacles but the key is to look straight forward and keep doing what you are doing. Saudi in the past years has become a more and more empowering country for everyone and specially for women. The stage is big for whoever does his/her best. There will always be sporadic cases in every field but the goal is what matters to me.
Your work has been translated into Spanish and other languages. How do you feel about your stories reaching international readers, and how important do you believe translation is in promoting Saudi literature abroad?
When I translated the novel I asked the translator to keep every detail of the story as is including the names of the people, and people. There are a lot of mentions of places in Jeddah and Makkah specially. Names of the characters were: Anas ,Mahmoud, Reem, Jameels. I believe it is important to have pride in our heritage and culture and spread that to the world and I am so happy that it worked well.
You’ve spoken at TEDx and other platforms as a Saudi literary ambassador. How do you see the evolving role of Saudi literature in the broader cultural renaissance happening in the Kingdom?
Saudi Arabia is rising in every aspect and field and the whole world is witnessing this. Literature is no different. To my pleasant surprise I knew about so many initiatives done by the ministry of culture in order to support the existing authors and also to have more writers in Saudi.
Having served as the ambassador of the Arab Thought Foundation, how do you envision the future of Saudi literature, particularly in genres like science fiction and fantasy, on the international stage?
I think we are just getting started in that field. I have been meeting so many new writers who are excited to write about fantasy and sci-fi and the as I mentioned writers are having amazing support so we will notice in the coming years lots of literature advancements and many new names rising.
What message do you want to send to the next generation of Saudi writers, especially women, who are inspired by your work and want to explore unconventional genres?
Go for it! you will never know how it will end up and i am living example of this. I want them to be ok with rejection and failure sometimes as they are part of the journey. There is a saying that I love: how will you sit to write when you haven’t stood up to live?!
What role do you think literature plays in shaping the new Saudi identity, particularly with the Kingdom undergoing significant cultural and societal changes?
ok if you ask anyone about Superman, Batman, Ironman, Star war... etc they will tell you the whole story and where each one happened, people even know imaginary cities in the US like Gptham. This is the power of literature. it makes you part of the story.. It makes you
live in their streets, sleep in their bed and even think of their ideas.
What future projects or themes are you exploring in your writing, and can readers expect to see new novels, collaborations, or adaptations on the horizon?
hmm I’m exploring writing a short movie at the moment, translating my last novel to other languages, and getting ready to launch my next novel. Ask me next year and I will have a different answer. I’m up for the fun.
With your success both in Saudi Arabia and internationally, what drives you to continue breaking boundaries in literature, and how do you hope to influence the literary scene moving forward?
First and foremost is the trust that the country has on us. and my deep belief is that everyone is destined for greatness if they just broke the mental boundaries and believe in themselves, we are living this human experience for one time and that should be enough if you make a use of it properly.

With a proven track record of success, including growing a company’s client base to a £6 million annual turnover, Corina is a trusted advisor to Gulf leaders, royal families, and prestigious global brands. In this interview, she shares her insights on thriving in the Gulf’s luxury market.
As a German national working closely with leaders from the Gulf, royal families, and business magnates, how did you initially navigate the cultural differences, and what key lessons did you learn in your early years?
Initially when I started there was barely any information (there was no social media before 2007) and I had to rely heavily on Mentors. Luckily my manager at the time had been in business for 30 years and he taught me everything he knew: who was who, how the families were related, how to read the names and so on.
Because I met a lot of people in person, I paid a lot more attention to things like hierarchy, what was important to them, taking notes, and remembering for the next time I would meet them.
The most important skills during this time were: listening, taking notes and building relationships. For everyone who wants to succeed in business now in Saudi – this is something, they can’t afford to miss – you need to get prepared.
Star-CaT has been pivotal in bridging the gap between Western and Middle Eastern business cultures. What inspired you to create the firm, and what specific challenges do you help companies overcome in the Gulf region?
When I worked in hotels, I could already see how many Europeans were unfamiliar with the Gulf culture (as I was initially) and that often led to misunderstandings, miscommunications and frustrations on both sides.
For companies this is a huge problem because they can lose clients and employees which is bad for business.
If clients don’t get the service they want and employees feel misunderstood – there is a risk that many more people will hear about this, damaging the reputation.
So there has to be a better way to bridge that gap – the knowledge gap, which is exactly what Star-CaT provides.
Companies that have worked with us have increased profits because their reputation comes from happy clients and efficient employees.
You’ve been credited with increasing a company’s regional client base from zero to a £6 million annual turnover. Can you share more about this remarkable achievement and the strategies that contributed to such rapid growth?
When I first started working with this company, they had no database, no one in the Middle East knew their brand and a lot of Gulf clients were reluctant to work with them.
I had to use my relationships and knowledge in the region to change all of this – the word spread, and business started growing.
Once clients started coming, I had to make sure that everyone in the company understood what it meant to look after these clients from the Gulf – so it required a huge amount of work, dedication and training.
This was not the only component – we also had to make sure that there was a long-term strategy in place and functions like marketing and social media were aligned as well.
This meant that we couldn’t rely on traditional methods and often had to innovate with new ideas and extra efforts.
As a non-Arabic speaker, what challenges did you face when communicating and building relationships in the Gulf, and how did you overcome them?
I have actually never felt that not speaking Arabic was a hinderance in business. This idea that you must speak Arabic and be a man to
be successful, is outdated and interestingly this is a more common stereotype in the West.
In the Gulf most people I have met speak very good English (and often multiple other languages).
So, for me this is another reason to empower more Western women and challenge these stereotypes, so they can confidently take roles and look after the Gulf region well.
You’ve worked with prestigious clients like Corinthia London, King & Spalding, and Monteverdi Tuscany. What common mistakes do businesses make when entering the Gulf market, and how do you help them avoid those pitfalls?
So often Western companies will look at business from their perspective and not from the Gulf client’s point of view.
That usually leads to disastrous marketing campaigns, assumptions and communication methods that serve their needs but not the clients’. Having a cultural appropriate strategy is incredibly important and meeting your Gulf client where
they want to be met is crucial to succeeding. It is about them and not what is convenient for you. In order to thrive in this multifaceted market, you need to stand out from your competition.
In your experience, how important is cultural intelligence for Western companies looking to succeed in the Gulf? Could you share an example of how understanding local customs and etiquette has directly contributed to business success?
This is not a nice to have – it is a must. A good example would be a business trip: they get planned to meet local partners, but companies often forget to think of the different working week.
The team is then surprised that they cannot get any meetings on a Friday and end up with a day off – which is probably great for them but a loss for the company. They waste time and resources which could have been avoided had they planned better.
This is just one small example and there are so many more I could name but it very clearly shows in
order to be effective, you need to make sure that your team understands local customs and etiquette.

Aside from these, the region continues to showcase its vast history and diversity by inviting visitors to experience different landscapes such as Taif, the Red Sea and Al Ula.
But what I love most about the Gulf is that you feel you are amongst true visionaries – each country has a vision, and it shows people a clear path on where their countries are going – this is something that we are lacking in Europe.
I really see that the Gulf and specifically Saudi Arabia becoming a huge hub for innovation, growth, sustainability and exciting developments.

Now in its fourth edition, the platform brings short-form films to the

BILLBOARD ARABIA MUSIC AWARDS IN RIYADH
Billboard Arabia is excited to announce the first edition of the Billboard Arabia Music Awards (BBAMAs). Taking place December 11, 2024, at King Fahad Cultural Center in Riyadh, the awards show is part of the first-ever Riyadh Music Week, an initiative bringing together the global music community for a series of music festivals and events. Billboard Arabia has become the ultimate destination for discovering Arab artists, with the awards show celebrating a year of music milestones and achievements, including
the launch of its flagship charts and other major initiatives. The BBAMAs will honor trailblazers and rising stars with awards across a wide range of categories, including Top Artist, Female Artist, Male Artist, along with the year’s hottest songs and much more. Unlike other music award shows, BBAMA winners will be selected based on their ranking on Billboard Arabia’s flagship Charts, including the Hot 100 and Artist 100, as well as the newly launched dialect charts – Khaleeji, Egyptian, Levantine and Magharebi – and genre-specific
charts – Arabic Hip-Hop, Arabic Indie, Shelat and Mahraganat. Billboard Arabia’s Charts follow the well-established parameters set by the Billboard brand over the last eight decades. In addition to recognizing the top artists and music of the year, the BBAMAs will showcase Saudi Arabia and the region’s diverse talent through live performances, surprise collaborations and unforgettable moments featuring both established and emerging artists. It will also include performances from some of the biggest international artists.

Under the patronage of His Majesty’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, the British Embassy hosted an exclusive ‘Taste of the UK’ event, showcasing a vibrant array of premium British food and drink products now available in Saudi Arabia. The event marked a significant milestone in the growing trade relationship between the UK and Saudi Arabia, particularly within the flourishing food and beverage sector.
The Saudi market for imported food and beverages is experiencing unprecedented growth, driven by a rising demand for high-quality, organic, and gourmet products. Consumption in this sector is expected to exceed $27 billion, creating exciting opportunities for British brands to meet Saudi Arabia’s growing appetite for diverse and innovative products.
