As we unveil the Ghost Series II and Ghost Series II Black Badge today, we are not only showcasing the pinnacle of automotive artistry but also reinforcing our commitment to delivering exceptional experiences to the discerning clientele here in Dubai, where the standard of luxury is unparalleled.”

James Crichton, Regional Director Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Middle East & Africa

On the Road

Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II and its daring counterpart, Black Badge Ghost Series II, have officially arrived in the heart of luxury, Dubai, marking the unveiling of two distinguished motoring masterpieces. Taking centre stage in the breathtaking garden of Milos at The Atlantis Royal, Ghost Series II brought to life a stunning evolution of Rolls-Royce’s most iconic nameplate, blending powerful, driver-oriented design with unmatched Bespoke craftsmanship. Following Ghost Series II, the bold Black Badge Ghost Series II was revealed, showcasing its daring presence and enhanced performance. Both models embodied Rolls-Royce’s commitment to luxury, with their flawless engineering, cutting-edge technology, and timeless elegance, offering guests an immersive experience in the marque’s exceptional craftsmanship and immersing them in the wonderful world of Rolls-Royce.

Embodying a legacy of excellence, since its launch in 2009, Ghost has set the benchmark for a new era of luxury, appealing to a diverse clientele that values both elegance and performance. Ghost Series II, and its bold counterpart, build on this legacy, offering an even more personalised canvas for Bespoke commissions and introducing cutting-edge technology to enhance driving experience.

Bringing to life superior craftsmanship that excites the senses, Ghost Series II is more closely aligned to Rolls-Royce’s sheer, monolithic design approach than ever. A cleaner, more contemporary front, highlighted by an illuminated Pantheon grille, updated headlights, and sleek daytime running light graphics emphasize its commanding presence. The new chrome accents and ‘floating’ plinth for the Spirit of Ecstasy elevate the front, while the rear introduces new tail lamps inspired by Spectre, with vertical light panels and curved chrome elements. Two new 22inch, 9-spoke wheels complete the exterior’s modern elegance. Additionally, for the first time, a new exterior colour has been added to the marque’s existing palette of more than 44,000 prêt-à-porter hues. Mustique Blue evokes the glamour of the Caribbean Island it’s named after, shimmering with glass and mica flakes that reference the 1929 Phantom II Continental’s pioneering use of pearlescent paint.

The interior of Ghost Series II continues to embody the marque’s mastery of craftsmanship, blending both analogue and digital luxury. The new pillar-to-pillar glass panel houses the advanced SPIRIT operating system, enabling bespoke digital personalization, from colour-customized

instrument dials to seamless integration with the Rolls-Royce Whispers app. The cabin also offers an extraordinary auditory experience, thanks to an evolved 18-speaker, 1400-watt audio system that transforms the car’s structure into a resonating soundstage. Using the car’s aluminium sill sections as resonance chambers and integrating ‘speakerless’ exciters in the Headliner, Rolls-Royce creates a unique overhead sound experience. With a new Starlight Headliner that channels sound down into the cabin and automatic frequency adjustments, the result is a sound environment that is as refined as it is immersive. This acoustic mastery is matched by exquisite new expressions of craftsmanship, from the Spirit of Ecstasy Clock Cabinet to the Illuminated Fascia, which draws inspiration from the movement of the night sky. Rolls-Royce also introduces new materials like Grey Stained Ash and Duality Twill, combining traditional artistry with modern innovation for a truly bespoke, luxurious interior.

Black Badge Ghost Series II exudes a daring presence, with subtle yet striking exterior details, including a unique lower grille and darkened chrome elements throughout. For the first time, the door handles are finished in black, enhancing the model’s bold, noir aesthetic. Its most dramatic statement comes from the 22-inch, part-polished, seven-spoke forged wheels, designed to showcase the powerful V12 engine and dynamic performance capabilities beneath.

Inside, the signature dark technical surfaces of Black Badge are further elevated with a new Clock Cabinet, where a black chrome Spirit of Ecstasy figurine takes centre stage, surrounded by an upgraded Central Information Display featuring the latest SPIRIT operating system. Meticulously crafted Technical Carbon surfaces, with diamond-weave patterns of carbon and metal, add depth and sophistication, while the use of physical vapour deposition on interior metals ensures long-lasting durability. Clients can also choose from innovative materials like the striking Duality Twill fabric or the distinctive Placed Perforation technique, both offering unmatched levels of craftsmanship and personalisation.

At the heart of Ghost Series II is RollsRoyce’s potent 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine, delivering near-silent power through an eight-speed gearbox and all-wheel drivetrain. The celebrated Planar Suspension System, augmented by the Flagbearer System and Satellite Aided Transmission, ensures an unmatched ‘magic carpet ride’ while adapting to dynamic road conditions with effortless agility. For Black Badge Ghost Series II, the V12 engine is tuned to produce 29PS more power and 50Nm more torque, elevating performance further. A dedicated Black Badge Planar Suspension and revised braking system enhance agility and driver confidence, while a sportier exhaust note and faster gearshifts add an edge to the Black Badge experience, all without compromising Rolls-Royce’s signature serenity.

Both Ghost Series II and Black Badge Ghost Series II continue to build on the legacy of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, shaped in collaboration with its clients. These motor cars further demonstrate that the future of Rolls-Royce is a balance of heritage, innovation, contemporary craftsmanship, and bespoke, providing clients with an extraordinary canvas with which to bring to life their imaginations.

FERRARI 12CILINDRI SPIDER MAKES ITS REGIONAL PREMIERE AT CASA FERRARI ABU DHABI 2024

Ferrari chose the opulent and striking backdrop of the annual Casa Ferrari event, held at Yas Links Golf Club, for the regional premiere of the 12Cilindri Spider.

Coinciding with the ontrack excitement of the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend (6th-8th December), the Casa Ferrari event gathered guests and dedicated Ferraristi

to witness the unveiling of the new model, which follows the regional premiere of the Ferrari 12Cilindri a few weeks ago in Dubai.

Giorgio Turri, General Manager of Ferrari Middle East, commented: “Casa Ferrari, the much-loved event where our Ferraristi gather every year, provided the ideal opportunity to unveil this latest highly anticipated model boasting unparalleled levels

of performance, driving thrills and comfort. As we mark our 30th anniversary in the Middle East region, the unveiling of the 12Cilindri Spider – with all that it signifies – was particularly momentous.”

The concept giving shape to the Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider draws inspiration from open-topped Ferrari Gran Turismo models of the 1950s and ‘60s, which combined the unmatched performance of

a road-going racing car with the unique opportunity to revel in the sound of the 12-cylinder engine with the roof down, and extraordinary long-distance driving comfort.

The design of the car makes a break from the recent canons of the Ferrari two-seater berlinetta spider genre, eschewing muscularity and sensuality in favour of a more futuristic language founded on formal purity with only

the barest hint of a typically automotive visual lexicon.

The F140HD engine equipping the Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider is the new version of the iconic naturally-aspirated Ferrari V12, the purest expression of Ferrari’s soul: its peerless performance, powerful soundtrack and exclusivity making it the worthy heir to the legendary berlinetta sports cars. The engine can unleash up to 830 cv while its max revs have been increased to 9500 rpm thanks to the adoption of innovative solutions.

The Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider is intended for both connoisseurs of the marque with a clear vision

of what Ferrari has stood for in the motoring world since 1947, and newer Ferraristi who dream of a car that lets them combine unmatched driving thrills with comfort and Italian design – and the

possibility of enjoying the wind in their hair. This truly is a car for the few.

The Casa Ferrari event is an annual event held in Abu Dhabi during the F1 GP weekend. A temporary

luxury hospitality and entertainment venue, it is designed as a villa, the concept mirroring its title – Casa, meaning house in Italian – serving as a home for the local Ferraristi community in the region.

THE NEW CUBITUS COLLECTION

PATEK PHILIPPE LAUNCHES A COMPLETELY NEW INTERPRETATION OF THE “ELEGANT SPORTY” STYLE

Patek Philippe is enriching its vast array of timepieces with a new collection that stands out by its unique alliance of daring and elegance. Endowed with a highly original square-shaped case with rounded corners and a dial adorned with horizontal relief embossing, the new Cubitus (registered design) makes its debut in three versions, each with its own strong character. The technical model, Cubitus Instantaneous Grand Date, Day and Moon Phases, Reference 5822P- 001 in platinum, powered by a new movement with instantaneous displays for which six patent applications have been filed; the vintage touch of the two-tone Cubitus model Reference 5821/1AR-001 in steel and rose gold with a blue sunburst dial; and Cubitus Reference 5821/1A- 001 in steel, the very essence of sporting elegance, with an olive-green sunburst dial.

While it has made its mark as the virtuoso of complications, Patek Philippe has also achieved distinction in the design sphere, developing its own aesthetic style and creating some of the most renowned and immediately recognizable watches in the entire horological universe. Creativity has always been at the heart of the Patek Philippe spirit, as evidenced by the vast array of collections and models spanning every segment of the watch market. Each new watch model is the occasion for the manufacture to express its unique vision of fine watchmaking, and to give free rein to its imagination and zest for invention, by drawing on numerous sources of inspiration and replying to the Patek Philippe customers’ wide variety of tastes.

And so the collections emerged, each with its own character. The Calatrava, in 1932, archetype of the round wristwatch; the Golden Ellipse, in 1968, its harmonious proportions inspired by the Golden Section; the Nautilus, in 1976, leader in the field of sporting elegance; the Gondolo collection, in 1993, contemporary embodiment of the Art Deco spirit; the Aquanaut, in 1997, emblematic of modern, casual chic; the Twenty~4, in 1999, timeless feminine elegance incarnate, completed

in 2018 by the launch of the Twenty~4 Automatic. All of these models, with their pure, clean lines, destined to rise above passing fashion while losing nothing of their beauty and appeal Each an enduring icon of watch design, evolving by subtle touches, while retaining its powers of seduction as the years and generations pass.

A new exclusive square-shaped case with an elegantly slim profile

With the launch of the Cubitus collection Patek Philippe’s aim was to offer a new reinterpretation of the “elegant sporty” style. To do so, the manufacture chose to explore an original geometry based on the square. A visit to the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva reveals that the company has already proposed, in its collections, a number of quadrangular-shaped cases (squares, rectangles, trapezoids, cushions), particularly in the Art Deco period, when this type of aesthetic flourished. For the new Cubitus collection, however, Patek Philippe developed a completely original, innovative design in which the square bezel adopts rounded corners: a shape both daring and subtle, blending the square, the circle and the octagon. The new Cubitus case also stands out by its two attachments, one on either side of the case and its two-part construction (back/caseband + bezel) with casing-up done from the front. The 45 mm diameter combines with an extremely slender profile, ensuring timeless elegance.

Brilliant Bijoux

enriched the dials with horizontal relief embossing, creating fine plays of light. As a signature feature of the collection, this horizontal decoration is also found on the rotors and mini-rotors of the Patek Philippe movements equipping the Cubitus models, accompanied by the Genevan manufacture’s emblem, the Calatrava cross.

Cubitus Instantaneous Grand Date, Day and Moon Phases Reference 5822P-001

A technical model endowed with a new complication, in a movement for which six patent applications have been filed

To mark the birth of the new Cubitus collection, Patek Philippe is unveiling a completely new model in platinum with original displays uniting a large-format date, the moon phase and the day of the week, all changing instantaneously. The manufacture developed for the purpose a new caliber 240 PS CI J LU self-winding movement for which it has filed six patent applications, such as those relating to the distribution of the energy required for the different displays and their simultaneous jump in 18 milliseconds. These innovations guarantee, in particular, perfect alignment of the large-date digits, and the possibility of correcting all the indications at any time of the day.

Another particularity: the bold geometry of the design is enhanced by the use of contrasting finishes – “vertical satin-brushed” on the flat of the bezel and the front of the case, and polished on the bezel’s chamfer and the case flanks. These finishing techniques require some 55 manual operations per watch, performed with the painstaking devotion to fine workmanship that distinguishes all Patek Philippe creations. The integrated metal bracelet equipping two of the three Cubitus models features this same pattern of alternating finishes – vertical satin-brushed on the main links and polished on the central links.

A dial and a rotor enriched with a horizontal decoration

To emphasize the strong character of the new Cubitus collection and play up its sporty air Patek Philippe

The grand date is displayed in a double aperture at the 12 o’clock position by means of two co-planar disks (that is, placed on exactly the same plane). The coaxial day and moon-phase indications are positioned at 7 o’clock, complemented by a small asymmetric subsidiary seconds counter at 4:30. On the blue sunburst dial, adorned with horizontal relief embossing, legibility is ensured by applied baton- style hour markers and rounded baton-style hour and minute hands, all in white gold with a white luminescent coating.

The distinctive design of the platinum case as a square with rounded corners, a 45 mm diameter and an elegantly slender profile, gains further finesse from the contrast between its polished and vertical-satinbrushed finishes. A transparent sapphire-crystal case back affords a private view of the movement, with its 22K gold off-center mini-rotor presenting the same horizontal decoration as the dial. Like all the Patek Philippe models in platinum, this timepiece has a diamond, here a baguette cut for the first time, set into the bezel at 6 o’clock.

The modern, casual chic style with a technical edge continues through to a navy-blue strap with cream contrasting stitching in an ultra-resistant composite material embossed with a fabric motif, and a Cubitus fold-over clasp in platinum.

Patek Philippe also includes new Cubitus cufflinks in the collection, designed to match the watch, their white-gold frame echoing the shape of the case and centering a blue sunburst motif adorned with an embossed horizontal relief decoration (205.9821G-001).

Cubitus Reference 5821/1AR-001

A two-tone version in steel and rose gold with a vintage touch, featuring a blue sunburst dial

Patek Philippe plays up the elegant, daring design of its new Cubitus collection by endowing it with a twotone version in which the bezel and central bracelet links in rose gold combine with a caseband and lateral links in steel. A refined contrast, highlighted by the alternating polished and vertical-satin-brushed finishes. The completely new case, 45 mm in diameter, stands out by its highly original design, based on a square with rounded corners, and its remarkably slim profile (8.3 mm), making it supremely elegant on the wrist. With its two-part construction and screw-down crown, it is certified water-resistant for all aquatic activities to a depth of 30 meters.

The blue sunburst dial with horizontal relief embossing combines elegance and legibility, with its applied baton-style hour markers and rounded baton-style hour and minute hands, all in rose-gold with a white luminescent coating. An inlaid frame in rose gold decorates the date aperture at 3 o’clock.

This model houses the caliber 26-330 S C self-winding movement, a derivative of the base caliber 26- 330 introduced in 2019, endowed with a stop-seconds mechanism (allowing the watch to be synchronized with a time signal to an accuracy of one second) and other technical innovations, particularly related to the winding system. The transparent sapphire-crystal display back affords a private view of this movement’s architecture and painstakingly finished and decorated parts, such as the central rotor in 21K gold, adorned with the same horizontal motif as the dial.

The bracelet in steel and rose gold features a lockable size-adjustment system and a patented Patek Philippe fold-over clasp secured by four independent catches for comfort and safety.

Patek Philippe also includes new Cubitus cufflinks in the collection, designed to match the watch, their rose-gold frame echoing the shape of the case and centering a blue sunburst adorned with an embossed horizontal relief (205.9821R-001).

Cubitus Reference 5821/1A-001

Sporty elegance par excellence in a model with a steel case and bracelet and an olive-green sunburst dial Patek Philippe has reinvented the elegant sporty watch with a completely new Cubitus model in steel, combining a square-shaped case with rounded corners with an integrated bracelet whose architecture delivers both flexibility and strength. Alternating polished and vertical-satin-brushed finishes highlight the bold modern design. The 45 mm-diameter case is remarkable for its elegant finesse on the wrist (8.3 mm).

The dial, adorned with horizontal relief embossing, sports an elegant shade of olive green illuminated by a fine sunburst motif. Applied baton-style hour markers and rounded baton-style hour and minute hands, all in white gold with a white luminescent coating, make legibility excellent. An inlaid frame in white gold decorates the date aperture at 3 o’clock.

At the heart of this new model beats the same caliber 26-330 S C self-winding movement that powers the Cubitus Reference 5821/1AR-001, with central rotor in 21K gold adorned with a horizontal motif.

The steel bracelet features a lockable size-adjustment system and a patented Patek Philippe fold-over clasp secured by four independent catches for comfort and safety.

Patek Philippe also includes new cufflinks in the collection, designed to match the watch, their white- gold frame echoing the shape of the case and centering an olive-green sunburst adorned with horizontal relief embossing (205.9821G-010).

INTRODUCING A NEW INTERPRETATION OF THE RENDEZ-VOUS JEWELLERY TOURBILLON

A ‘SERENITY BLUE’ DIAL COMPLEMENTS THE PINK GOLD CASE

Jaeger-LeCoultre’s new interpretation of the Rendez-Vous Jewellery Tourbillon epitomises its philosophy of uniting aesthetic beauty with technical virtuosity. A sunray-brushed dial in a serene and distinctive shade of blue-green creates a rich complement to the 39mm 18 Karats pink gold case (750/1000). A halo of brilliant-cut diamonds illuminates the timepiece and a fascinating tourbillon display transforms it into a horological jewel.

Inspired by a long legacy of feminine timepieces

The designing and creation of timepieces for women is an essential element of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s history. As far back as the 1880s, the LeCoultre Calibre 7HP equipped enamelled, diamond-set and pearl-beaded watches that ladies wore as necklaces or brooches. Around the same time, women were the first to adopt the new concept of watches for the wrist, decades ahead of men’s decision to wear their timepiece on the wrist rather than in the pocket.

In a continuity of this expertise devoted to feminine timekeeping, the Rendez-Vous collection was created in 2012. It was created to express modern femininity through a distinctive and pure aesthetic, showcasing mechanical calibres with added complications – a groundbreaking concept at a time when it was still rare for women’s watches to have mechanical complications. The first Rendez-Vous Tourbillon was introduced in 2012, since then, the Rendez-Vous collection has grown over the years to include models of different sizes, in a variety of metals and with a wide range of movements and decorative details.

An eye-catching serenity blue dial, the sparkle of diamonds and a tourbillon escapement

The new Rendez-Vous Jewellery Tourbillon is distinguished by a signature dial in ‘Serenity Blue’ – a unique blue-green colour that appeared for the first time in 2023. As the wearer moves her wrist, the colour appears to vary in tone and intensity depending on the

angle and reflection of the light, metamorphosing from soft silvery-grey through glowing aquamarine to rich serenity blue – an effect enhanced by the sunray finish.

The dial colour is complemented by an alligator strap in a matching shade of blue. Both the strap and its pink gold folding clasp are interchangeable, enabling the wearer to personalise the watch with different colours or materials from the Maison’s wide range of straps.

Amplifying the harmony and balance of the design, the heart of the dial is decorated with a circle of brilliant-cut diamonds, intersected by a smaller circle of diamonds that draws the eye to the tourbillon. Showcasing the gem-setting expertise of La Grande Maison’s in-house Métiers RaresTM atelier, an additional ring of diamonds is set on the bezel; diamonds form an unbroken line across the case side from the tip of one lug to the tip of the other; and the crown is reverse-set with a round brilliant-cut diamond. In total, the Rendez-Vous Jewellery Tourbillon is illuminated with 215 diamonds, representing 2.52 carats. The colour of the pink gold case is matched by the Rendez-Vous collection’s signature applied ‘floral’ numerals Hands and applied ‘JL’ logo.

Brilliant Bijoux

Visible through the aperture in the 6 o’clock position on the dial, the tourbillon escapement makes one revolution every 60 seconds. Designed to counteract the effect of gravity on the accuracy of the timekeeping mechanism, the tourbillon also offers a fascinating view into the mechanics of the watch as it spins on its axis in an endlessly mesmerising dance. A finely polished pink gold hand with an arrow-head tip indicates the running seconds as it traces the circle of diamonds set around the aperture.

Like every Jaeger-LeCoultre movement, the high-precision automatic Calibre 978 was designed, assembled and decorated within the Maison’s fully integrated Manufacture. The minute detail of the hand-decorated tourbillon gears can be seen from the dial side, whereas the refinement of the movement and its hand-finished components can also be admired through the sapphire case back.

The ‘Serenity Blue’ interpretation of the Rendez-Vous Jewellery Tourbillon is a harmonious expression of contemporary feminine elegance, demonstrating La Grande Maison’s philosophy of uniting fine watchmaking and high jewellery skills through the signature codes of the Rendez-Vous collection.

SACHA JAFRI: THE ART OF CONNECTION AND INTENTION

Your work connects deeply on an emotional and universal level. What’s going through your mind when you start a new piece?

Surprisingly, nothing. I paint from a deep meditative state, almost like a trance. Studies on my brainwaves revealed I enter a Theta state of surrender, which is rare for artists. This state allows me to focus on pure intentions rather than the final outcome. I believe that humans communicate most powerfully through energy, and the energy we emit is shaped by our intentions. When our intentions are pure, the vibrations we create can truly connect with others on a soulful level.

When I start a painting, I focus on one singular emotion, which manifests as a ball of color in my mind. From there, shapes, marks, and a narrative evolve. This process is emotionally exhausting but incredibly powerful as it draws out the raw essence of the human soul.

How did you first get into art?

My journey began in childhood. I have synesthesia, a condition where my senses are mixed—I hear color and see sound. This made life challenging, especially with severe dyslexia, but painting became my way of making sense of the world.

I started painting seriously around the age of seven. Unlike most children, I could focus on painting for hours. It gave me peace, clarity, and a way to process the overwhelming energy and emotions I felt from the world around me. Painting remains essential for my well-being; if I don’t paint for a while, I become restless and difficult.

Themes like unity, love, and humanity are central to your work. Why do these ideas matter so much?

I believe we communicate through energy at our purest form, but this requires surrendering ego and connecting to something greater than ourselves. Today, we’re surrounded by static energy—caused by questionable intentions like greed or ego—which disrupts our ability to connect meaningfully.

Through my art, I aim to slow people down, inspire introspection, and encourage a return to purity of intention. Humanity’s future lies not in technology but in understanding ourselves, our bodies, and nature. The human body is the greatest technology on Earth, with an unmatched ability to surrender and connect. If we can refocus on this, we can create profound change.

Do you think AI will ever be able to create art like yours?

Sacha: No, and here’s why: true art comes from surrender and pure intention, which AI cannot achieve. AI relies on data from the past and can’t connect to something greater than itself. While AI is incredibly useful in fields like healthcare, education, and design, it cannot replicate the vibrations and frequencies that come from human creation.

Real art has an emotional impact because it carries the energy of its creator—something no machine can emulate. It’s this ability to surrender and connect that makes us uniquely human and capable of creating meaningful art is feel it. The essence of my work isn’t about intellectual analysis; it’s about emotional

connection. You’re meant to stand before it and let the energy of the piece flow into you, evoke something within you—memories, emotions, or even just a sense of peace or chaos. The point is not to think but to feel.

Over the years, my style has evolved significantly because my work reflects my journey—my personal growth, my emotions, and the lessons I’ve learned. In the beginning, I was much more focused on the technical aspects of painting—perfecting forms, experimenting with techniques, and playing with traditional mediums. But as I grew, I started letting go of perfection and control. I embraced spontaneity, rawness, and the power of surrender, which we spoke about earlier.

The biggest shifts in my style often come from life-changing experiences—loss, love, or even just moments of profound clarity. These moments push me to explore new textures, colors, or techniques. For example, I went through a phase where I worked heavily with gold leaf and encaustic techniques because I was fascinated by the interplay of permanence and decay— how beauty can exist in both.

Now, my work is more about energy and vibration. I use bold, dynamic movements to transfer my own energy onto the canvas, and I experiment with unconventional materials. I’m constantly inspired by nature, humanity, and the invisible threads that connect us all. So, while my style continues to evolve, the underlying intention remains the same: to create pieces that resonate deeply with the soul of the viewer.

Well, art has this amazing way of connecting cultures. Definitely. How do you think art can help build understanding between the West and the Middle East?

I think it’s not about the West and the Middle East. Did you say the West and the Middle East? Yes. I don’t think it’s about the West and the Middle East. I don’t believe the world or humanity should be divided into East, West, North, or South. What we need to understand is that we should not focus on our differences, but on our similarities.

In simple terms, we are all made of the same thing. No matter our color, creed, or religion, we are made of

the same scientific makeup, same atoms, same molecules—we are all the same. We are one. That’s a simple fact. Some people may act as if we are not one, but that’s irrelevant; we are one.

I think art can help us understand this, but really, we don’t need to “connect” as one because we already are one. We need to recognize that fact. And art can aid in that understanding. The power of art lies in the intention behind its creation. When you create art, the most important thing is to focus on your intentions.

As an artist, you must get into a state of surrender and connect with something more powerful than you. When you’re in that state, it’s not about what you make but how you live your life. Focus on living a life of grace, goodness, compassion, empathy, love, and intention. If you live with these qualities, then occasionally, you will borrow a moment of inspiration. But remember, it’s just a moment—you didn’t create it, you borrowed it. You must give it back and say thank you.

If you forget that it’s a borrowed moment and let your ego take over, thinking, “Look what I did,” that moment won’t come again. People call this “creator’s block,” but there’s no such thing. It’s simply when you stop living a life of grace and you let your ego interfere. The more you do this, the more those moments of creativity will continue to flow.

I believe that’s the most important thing to realize about the power of art and its ability to reconnect us. It’s not about how great we think we are—it’s about understanding that we are all connected.

Saudi Arabia is really becoming a hub for art and culture. What do you think of the Kingdom Vision 2030? Do you see yourself being part of the art scene there?

What Saudi Arabia has achieved in the last five years is phenomenal, and their Vision 2030 is even more remarkable. Most countries, especially in Europe, might give you a vision for the future and only achieve a fraction of it. But Saudi Arabia has the potential to achieve 90% of it, which is extraordinary. Even if they achieve only 60%, it would still be one of the most impressive feats humanity has ever seen.

Believe it or not, many aspects of Vision 2030 are already 90% achieved. But there is still more to do, and much of it revolves around sustainable goals and broader achievements. Their intentions are incredible, and I believe they will reach them. I see myself as part of that, particularly within the arts.

There’s a humility among the leadership, especially figures like Prince Badr Al-Saud, who, along with other key figures, have a clear vision for the country. They understand the importance of education and cultural

development, and Saudi women are playing an important role in shaping this future. The Saudi arts scene is a huge part of that vision, and it will only continue to grow.

That being said, there is a danger in how art is presented. Art needs to be created with intention and placed in the world in the right way. Too much art today is created and exhibited without understanding its deeper purpose. When art is placed in the world

with the wrong intention, it can contribute to the disconnection from humanity and the planet. We must not become obsessed with technology; the future of humanity lies in reconnecting with each other and with nature.

So, for Saudi Arabia to achieve its cultural vision, they must continue to ensure that art is created with high vibration and intentionality. If they do this, the arts will thrive and truly help reconnect us as humans. I’m excited to see what the future holds.

Saudi Arabia has one of the youngest populations in the world, along with Nigeria. How do you think art can inspire young people in Saudi Arabia and across the region?

Art can inspire young people immensely. I’ve touched on this throughout our discussion. I’ve been to Saudi Arabia many times, visiting Jeddah and Riyadh, where I’ve worked on charitable projects. What’s being done in AlUla, Jeddah, and Riyadh is absolutely stunning, and I see myself being part of the Saudi art scene, sharing my creations with the people there.

Young people can definitely be inspired by art—if it is created with intention. Art can question, inspire, and provoke thought. However, the biggest issue today is the obsession with instant gratification. Our world is obsessed with instant connections, quick rewards, and instant feedback. If young people don’t connect with something in two seconds, they move on.

Art, when placed correctly, can slow us down. We need that pause. It helps us to look inward, to question who we are, where we’re going, and our connection to something greater than ourselves—whether we call it God, Allah, or any other belief system. Art can help us reconnect with that deeper truth. It has the power to do so, and that’s a very powerful thing.

Speaking of luxury brands, you did a special project with Rolls-Royce that blends luxury with art. How did that partnership happen and what was the experience like for you?

That was an incredible project. Rolls-Royce is a brand I’ve always respected. Many people don’t realize they’ve been around for 148 years and were one of the first car manufacturers. They are a brand that I love,

Cover Story

not just because of their history but because they constantly evolve. They’re so powerful that the term “Rolls-Royce” is now used to describe the best of anything—it’s not just a brand, it’s a word in the vocabulary.

Their evolution in the last ten years, especially post-COVID, has been impressive. The RollsRoyce buyer has changed. Where it was once aimed at people in their 50s and 60s, now it’s attracting a younger clientele, in their mid20s to mid-30s. Rolls-Royce adapted without losing the essence of their brand, which is no easy feat.

The partnership came about when Rolls-Royce approached me with the idea of collaborating. It became the first co-branded Rolls-Royce collection in the company’s 148-year history, and I had the honor of being the first artist to collaborate with them. I created a collection of six Rolls-Royces based on elements of nature: Earth, Wind, Water, Fire, and Humanity. Each painting I created inspired a specific car in the collection, with the final result being a stunning collection of six bespoke cars.

The process was amazing. I worked closely with their Goodwood headquarters to create these cars. Most people can modify a RollsRoyce, but Goodwood will never send a car out unless it meets their exact standards. The fact that they allowed me to create a unique collection of six Rolls-Royces from Goodwood was unprecedented.

Each car in the collection featured a hand-painted dashboard in the Phantom II, and I used a special exterior paint that RollsRoyce had never used before and won’t use again. It was truly a one-of-a-kind project, and I’m incredibly proud of it.

INTERVIEW WITH DR. AMR ABDULLA BOKHARI;

Could you share the journey that led you to pursue a career in dentistry, specifically in periodontics and dental implant surgery?

I traveled to the United States at the age of 17 to pursue my college education as is expected in our family. My father and his five brothers all completed their higher education in Europe and the United States. All of them obtained a PhD except for my eldest uncle who was a fighter pilot.

I graduated in 1998 from the university of Massachusetts with a bachelors degree with honours. Being in the top 2% of college students in the US I decided to pursue a medical or a dental education. And my dream was to move to California. I was accepted at the UCLA dental school and earned a doctorate in dental surgery in 2000. During my training I became good friends with a famous implant surgeon in Los Angeles who became a mentor to me. I saw his lifestyle and I wanted the same. So I moved to Seattle and completed a residency program in periodontics and dental implant surgery at the university of Washington in 2009. It was a long and treacherous journey. But well worth it.

How did your experience studying at prestigious institutions like UCLA and the University of Washington shape your approach to patient care?

I believe that the North American healthcare system is par to none. With patient care being its main focus. I was fortunate to study at top US universities where I had access

to some of the best in the field and to learn from them. Many of them renowned professors who were innovators in their respective specialities.

As a consultant periodontist and dental implant surgeon at Unidents Dental Clinic in Jeddah, what sets your clinic apart in delivering high-quality care?

I am very fortunate and honoured to work with some the best dental specialists in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia at Unidents dental clinic. All partners at Unidents are consultants with specialty degrees from some of the best institutions in North America and Europe. We enjoy working as a team where we provide the highest quality treatment to our patients under one roof. Education is a vital part of our career and most doctors at Unidents are professors at king abdulaziz university where research and teaching is a priority to educate the future generations of Saudi Arabia and to meet the demands of its growing population.

How has your experience as the chairman of the periodontics department at Batterjee Dental College influenced your work in mentoring the next generation of dental professionals?

I enjoy teaching just as much as practicing. When I graduated from the university of Washington in 2009 I was asked to join the faculty to teach the residents for three years. Upon my return to the kingdom in 2012 I was looking for an opportunity to continue my

passion of teaching. So I joined Batterjee in 2015 in the capacity of chairman of the periodontics department and in 2017 I became an assistant professor at king abdulaziz university faculty of dentistry and I continue teaching there until today. Teaching is vital for clinicians to keep up w the latest research and interact w the future generations. I truly believe that you learn something new every day when you teach. It also gives you a tremendous sense of pride to see your students graduate and excel in their career. It is a wonderful opportunity to pass on your experience to the younger generation and to contribute to their success.

What recent technological innovations in periodontics and dental implant surgery are revolutionizing the field, and how are you incorporating them into your practice?

In the past few years there has been significant advancement in dental and medical technology especially in the field of 3D

Trendsetter

printing and digital technology and imaging. In the dental implant field we currently rely heavily on computerised tomography (CT scans) where we can precisely visualise the local anatomy of each patient prior to surgical intervention. We can also use guided surgery which significantly reduces surgical time and complications.

Dental health is often linked to overall wellness. How do you educate your patients on the importance of oral health in relation to their lifestyle and wellbeing?

I believe in a holistic approach to health. All organs in the body are connected to each other through blood vessels, nerves and lymphatic fluids. The mouth is considered an organ. And oral disease can affect the digestive system, the heart, and the endocrine system among others. Unfortunately diabetes and smoking are common in Saudi Arabia. Both are risk factors for gum and oral disease as well as tooth loss. Our goal is to prevent disease before it occurs by educating our patients. And we should lead by example. I personally strive to live a healthy life by eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly and avoiding smoking.

What do you envision as the future of dentistry in Saudi Arabia, particularly in the luxury dental care sector?

HRH Prince Muhammad Bin Salman’s initiative Vision 2030 is an inspiration to all healthcare workers in the public and private sectors to modernise and to create systems that adapt to Saudi Arabia’s changing needs. It identifies a path forward to provide a strong and sustainable access to and to improve quality of care. I foresee a bright future for the healthcare system in Saudi Arabia generally and dentistry in particular. The government has invested heavily in educating its citizens through scholarships abroad. And it seems it is reaping the

Follow the Leader

benefits of its investment. Many foreign trained doctors are returning home with vast knowledge and experience. Our national universities and dental programs are becoming very competitive and are producing high calibre graduates. In addition, patients’ health awareness is improving through exposure to social media and other government funded programs.

Can you share a memorable success story where your work transformed a patient’s confidence or quality of life?

Whenever we transform a patients life and improve his or her quality of life we feel a tremendous sense of pride and satisfaction. Relieving someone’s pain and agony is priceless. My most memorable case is a young lady who lost all her teeth due to a rare disease. Her dream was to smile and eat properly and to get married and raise a family. We completed a full mouth rehabilitation with dental implants. She was once again full of joy and confidence. A year I was invited to her wedding.

When you’re not in the clinic or classroom, how do you unwind and balance your professional commitments with personal life?

One of the perks of living close to the Red Sea is being able to enjoy the beauty and serenity of marine life. I’m an avid fisherman and diver. Upon my return from the US I purchased a boat and I try to go fishing once or twice a week. It is a way for me to disconnect and unwind from the hectic and often stressful life of a doctor.

What advice would you give to aspiring dental professionals who want to specialize in periodontics and dental implant surgery?

It is a wonderful specialty and is constantly evolving. To all aspiring dental surgeons I strongly advise them to persevere and to

never give up on their dreams. I urge them to specialise after dental school. The job opportunities are much higher for consultants compared to general dentists.

How do you see your role evolving in Saudi Arabia’s rapidly growing healthcare and luxury sectors?

Unidents clinic was founded by a group of aspiring consultants who had a common vision. That vision was built on our understanding that a large chunk of the population is looking for excellence in dental treatment. And that they are willing to pay for that service, no matter the cost. Because they prioritise their health over anything else. So instead of travelling to the US and Europe looking for excellent dental treatment, they can find it right here at home. We strive to provide them w the latest technology and the best materials and to treat them in the best facilities. Our ultimate goal is to expand and to provide our services to other regions of the kingdom.

SHAPING THE FUTURE OF LUXURY: A CONVERSATION WITH ANNE DE VERGERON

Anne de Vergeron has been involved in the luxury industry since joining LVMH in 2015, following a distinguished 16-year career in investment banking in London and Paris. As Group Director of Business Development, she has played a key role in acquisitions, including Maison Repossi, and has fostered the growth of various LVMH Maisons. In 2020, she was appointed Chairman and CEO of Maison Repossi. A graduate of ESCP Europe, Anne also serves on the boards of Editions Assouline, Thelios Eyewear, and Parfums Francis Kurkdjian, blending her business acumen with a passion for craftsmanship and innovation.

What inspired your move from investment banking to the luxury industry, and how did your previous experience shape your approach at LVMH?

My transition from investment banking to the luxury industry was inspired by my deep involvement in the sector through my previous role. This experience provided me with a solid understanding of the underlying strategies and market dynamics specific to luxury brands. Both industries share similar values such as meticulous attention to detail, strategic foresight, and a strong focus on delivering exceptional value. This have allowed me to seamlessly integrate my analytical skills and strategic insights into my role at Repossi, enabling me to contribute effectively to the company’s growth and innovation.

How do you approach balancing the heritage of the Maisons you oversee with the need for modern innovation in the luxury sector?

Balancing the rich heritage of the Maison with the need for modern innovation involves a careful and respectful approach. We ensure that any innovative efforts align

with the brand’s DNA and uphold its historical values. Embracing modern innovation does not detract from our heritage; instead, it enhances our ability to create the highest quality pieces.

What has been your most significant achievement as CEO President of Maison Repossi, and what are your aspirations for the brand’s future, particularly in the Middle East?

My most significant achievement as President of Repossi has been driving the brand’s geographic expansion, with a particular focus on the Middle East. We have successfully developed and implemented a new boutique design concept, starting with the reopening of our Dubai store last month and the opening of our Riyadh boutique in Kingdom Mall last week. We are also excited to announce the upcoming launch of our Abu Dhabi boutique. By prioritizing the Middle East for the rollout of our new retail design concept, we aim to solidify our presence in this dynamic market and create a unique luxury experience for our clients.

As a board member of several LVMH Maisons, how do you ensure each brand maintains its unique identity while aligning with LVMH’s broader mission?

Our approach is to ensure that each brand maintains its unique identity and core values without compromise.

The Trendsetter

We achieve this by deeply respecting and preserving the distinctive DNA of each Maison, while simultaneously leveraging the resources and strategic vision of LVMH to maximize their true potential. This balance allows each brand to thrive individually, contributing to the broader mission of LVMH by upholding excellence and innovation across the portfolio.

What trends do you observe in the Saudi luxury market, and how do you see Maison Repossi and other LVMH brands resonating with this audience?

In the Saudi luxury market, we observe a deep appreciation for art, architecture, and traditional craftsmanship, which aligns perfectly with the core values of Repossi. The recent opening of the Museum of Diriyah Art Futures exemplifies this cultural affinity. Saudi consumers share our passion for artistic expression and the preservation of heritage, making our brand and other LVMH Maisons highly resonant with this audience. We see a strong potential for growth as we continue to engage with and cater to these sophisticated tastes, ensuring our offerings reflect both innovation and respect for tradition.

How do you integrate sustainability into Maison Repossi’s operations while preserving its heritage and craftsmanship?

At Repossi, the integration of sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives into our operations is of paramount importance. We achieve this through a multifaceted approach.

Firstly, we are committed to the ethical sourcing of materials, ensuring that our gemstones and metals are responsibly obtained and fully certified.

Secondly, our production processes are manual; all our pieces are handcrafted in our historical ateliers in Italy, with whom we have been working for more than 50 years. By utilizing traditional craftsmanship techniques, we not only uphold our heritage but also reduce environmental impact.

Furthermore, Repossi launched The Chromatic Sapphire, a special collection created in collaboration with the Moyo Gem organization. Moyo Gem works with women artisanal miners from the Tanzania Women Miners Association (TAWOMA) to bring responsibly sourced gemstones from East Africa to the market.

TAWOMA plays a key role by connecting with miners, organizing communities, co-delivering training, and advocating for their needs. The Chromatic Sapphire collection features unique Umba sapphires from the Umba Valley in Tanzania, showcasing a beautiful range of colors from slight grey and lilac to vibrant orange tones. Each sapphire is highlighted by our iconic Serti sur Vide designs.

To celebrate three years of this initiative and symbolize our commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion, Repossi is honored to introduce the new Chromatic Sapphire collection in 2025 and name the pieces after the miners who found them.

Lastly, Repossi adheres to stringent certifications and standards, such as those set by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) obtained in 2018 and we maintain transparency in our operations, keeping our customers informed about our sustainability efforts.

What advice would you give to aspiring leaders looking to make an impact in the world of luxury?

My advice to aspiring leaders in the luxury industry is to cultivate a deep understanding and appreciation of the creativity, artistry and heritage that define true luxury. It is essential to balance respect for tradition with a forward-thinking mindset that embraces innovation and change. Develop a keen eye for detail and a commitment to excellence in every aspect of your work. Building strong relationships and fostering a collaborative environment will also be crucial to your success. Finally, stay authentic and passionate about your vision, as this will inspire others and drive meaningful impact in the world of luxury.

How do you see the future of luxury evolving, and what role do you envision for LVMH in shaping this future?

While I cannot personally comment on the future direction of LVMH as a whole, I can share my vision for Maison Repossi. I believe that the future of luxury will be defined by a true sense of exclusivity and authenticity. As consumers increasingly seek unique and meaningful experiences, our focus at Repossi will be on maintaining our commitment to exceptional craftsmanship, contemporary design and avant garde vision, and the preservation of our heritage.

Brilliant Bijoux

REPOSSI IS PLEASED TO

ANNOUNCE

THE OPENING OF ITS FIRST BOUTIQUE IN SAUDI ARABIA

Located at the ground floor of Kingdom Center in Riyadh, Repossi unveils a modern and minimalistic venue with Maison’s new concept design.

Maison Repossi, the Place Vendôme jeweller founded in 1957, unveils its new boutique concept paying homage to the emblematic aesthetic codes of the Maison. The concept will initially be deployed in the Middle East with the opening of two new boutiques by the end of the year in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) and Abu Dhabi, as well as the renovation of its flagship store in the Dubai Mall.

The taut lines, a guiding thread of the Repossi architectural project.

Celebrating design in all its forms, Repossi draws its inspiration from Japanese minimalism and artistic movements such as Bauhaus or the visionary architecture of Oscar Niemeyer and Tadao Ando, manifesting its dedication to creativity and artistic expression.

The minimalism is symbolised by a travertine facade with taut lines, punctuated by a simple line of lacquered color, subtly paying homage to the Maison’s aesthetics, notably the signature bar of the ‘Serti sur Vide’ collection as well as the lacquer of the iconic ‘Berbere Chromatic’ ring. Every Maison’s destination is personalized with a unique color : green for the Middle East, and blue for the United States.

Designed as a jewelry box.

This new concept has been designed to feel as though clients are inside a jewelry box, where every detail is a work of art in itself. Everything is handcrafted, just like the Maison’s jewelry pieces themselves.

The color palette, dominated by Greige and notably by a succession of layers of textured marmorino, recalls the timeless elegance of Repossi’s jewelry box, while stacking and asymmetry, two fundamental concepts in Repossi jewelry, come to life through a play of layering and textures on the walls, reflecting the signature stacking characteristics of Repossi’s Antifer rings.

For the Middle East, the new design concept is punctuated with green; inspired by the shades of emerald – an emblematic gemstone of the Maisonhighlighted by a subtle interplay of lines that extend throughout the interior and exterior of the boutique. Crafted with the expertise of a Master Lacquerer, these canvases pay particular tribute to the Berbere Chromatic collection.

In the main space, a panel of green-stained wood echoes Flavin Judd’s concept from the Repossi flagship store in Monaco, offering a dynamic texture that creates an interplay of materials and colors. The introduction of cherry wood, in reference to Donald Judd’s furniture designs, contrast with mineral materials to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Moreover, the design of the space is imbued with distinctive elements from the iconic Repossi boutique at Place Vendôme, particularly through the reinterpretation of an asymmetrical display case designed by Rem Koolhaas, a veritable totem of the Masion’s architectural environment.

The understated opulence of the space echoes the minimalist jewelry creations and embodies the very essence of Maison Repossi: sophistication in simplicity and commitment to excellence.

The store will feature Maison’s iconic collections such as Antifer, Serti sur Vide and Berbere, as well as a selection of exclusive High Jewellery pieces including iconic Blast and Brevis collections.

HONG KONG CUISINE LAUNCHES NEW CONCEPT,

BREAKING TRADITION BY DEMYSTIFYING CHINESE CULINARY SECRETS TO NEW INDUSTRY TALENTS

Happy Valley’s much loved Hong Kong Cuisine has undergone a complete revamp led by its new chef, Silas Li, previously private chef to members of Hong Kong’s upper echelon for over 20 years. Set to launch in July, the new contemporary Chinese concept is on a mission to drive the evolution of Chinese cuisine while paying homage to Hong Kong’s culinary heritage and development.

“Over the years, I noticed a lack of younger chefs entering the market and many of the stories and skills behind traditional recipes were slowly disappearing due to the old guards’ habits of keeping their family recipes as trade secrets. This in turn created a lack of accessibility and interest for the younger generation to join the industry,” said Hong Kong Cuisine owner, Baldwin Cheng.

As Hong Kong Cuisine reached its 10 year anniversary, Baldwin decided to overhaul his existing concept to address some of these challenges. Having known Chef Silas who shared his passion for the art of dining for years, the two joined forces to create a new contemporary Chinese concept fitting for the modern diner but would retain the essence of Chinese cuisine.

Inspired by the name of the restaurant, Chef Silas wanted to pay homage to Hong Kong’s culinary heritage and development, which has always reflected its unique East meets West heritage. At the same time, he aims to preserve the art of Chinese cooking through the new restaurant concept by creating a platform for the next generation of chefs to learn not only the time-honoured recipes behind traditional Chinese cuisine, but also the skills they need to innovate dishes and further evolve Hong Kong’s culinary culture.

Chef Silas’ culinary philosophy

Chef Silas himself is an example of how the meeting of cultures and innovation can create opportunities for growth. Although trained in French gastronomy, he has travelled extensively throughout China to learn from local chefs and suppliers on how to best use different Chinese ingredients, and also worked with a local culinary master who taught him traditional Chinese skills and techniques.

Grateful to all those who taught him about Chinese cuisine, Chef Silas, in turn, wanted to create a platform where he could do the same, encouraging chefs to think outside their stations, and work together across departments to create dishes and exchange knowledge. The revamped Hong Kong Cuisine demystifies skills, recipes, and stories to be shared openly in the kitchen, which in turn drives the evolution of contemporary Chinese cuisine. Chef Silas also plans to give hands-on opportunities in the Hong Kong Cuisine kitchen for aspiring chefs from local culinary institutes, encouraging the next generation of talents to join the industry.

The evolution of contemporary Chinese cuisine

Hong Kong Cuisine offers both à la carte menus and tasting menus for dinner. While the à la carte menu upholds Hong Kong’s family meal sharing culture, those looking for a more fine dining experience should opt for

the tasting menus. The new menus reflect Chef Silas’ careful balance between tradition and modernity, including must-try dishes that pay homage to traditional flavours and skills, creative combinations of ingredients that retain the essence of Chinese cooking, and innovative presentations infused with Western techniques. Hong Kong Cuisine’s sommelier Ringo Lam is also on board to recommend dedicated wine pairings, spirits, and Chinese liquors from the cellar.

Elevating modern classics

Chef Silas elevates authentic favourites, breathing fresh air into traditional classics. His signature Braised Boneless Duck Web Stuffed in Chicken Wings is a play on the Chinese idiom 鷄同鴨講 ( “chicken speaking with duck”), where two traditionally inconvenient to eat dishes are combined in an easy-to-eat format.

Chef Silas also uses fresh seafood from local markets wherever possible, such as combining fresh star garoupa with premium dried seafood in the Steamed Star Garoupa with Shredded Abalone, Chinese Mushroom, Fish Maw, Sea Cucumber, Preserved Vegetables, Red Dates, Cordyceps Flower and Dried Tangerine, served with

Taste Makers

Dried Tangerine Soy Sauce or the “Eight Treasures Star Garoupa’’, another homage to a Chinese classic traditionally a dish made with duck.

Reinventing traditional flavour combinations

He also employs creative combinations of ingredients to produce imaginative presentations of familiar and traditional flavours, such as in the Bird’s Nest Stuffed Winter Melon Ball with Roasted Duck Sea Cucumber Sauce where the humble bird’s nest, traditionally served as a dessert, is turned into a textural delight by stuffing it into a winter melon ball, and adding elements of roasted duck and sea cucumber.

The Bamboo Fungus Stuffed with Scallop Mousse, Homemade Premium X.O. Sauce combines ingredients from land and sea for a dish filled with balanced umami flavours. Moreover, in the Crispy Sea Cucumber Stuffed with Tofu Fish Mousse, served with Mapo Minced Pork Sauce, Chef Silas transforms the humble sea cucumber with British Chinese takeaway shop inspired mapo tofu elements.

East meets West at Hong Kong Cuisine Guests can also expect unique dishes with a Western flair. The Layers of Steamed Egg White, Crab Meat with Hua-Diao Wine, Lily Flower Root Foam, served in Egg Shell from the dinner tasting menu is an umami bomb featuring four different crab preparations while the Steamed Cod Wrapped in Miso Fish Mousse, Zucchini, Beef Consomme and Carrot Bubbles highlights Chef Silas’ gastronomic background and echoes the Chinese surf and turf concept throughout the menu.

Lovers of Chinese cuisine will find that not only is the new Hong Kong Cuisine a platform for chefs to learn the demystified stories and recipes behind Chinese cuisine, but it’s also a contemporary Chinese restaurant where incoming head chef Silas Li pays tribute to Hong Kong’s unique heritage and culinary culture through reimagined classics, creative combinations of tradition and innovation, and dishes elevated with Western techniques.

In the Asir region, the tour reached the ancient village of Rijal Almaa

The southernmost point of the tour was in Najran, where the team encountered some of the highest mountain peaks and announced a new sports challenge named the “Southern Challenge.”

After an exhilarating exploration of the Kingdom, the parade returned to Riyadh on September 19. SHAPING SUSTAINABLE BUSINESSES IN 2024: LESSONS LEARNED & LOOKING AHEAD

The Compass and the Clock: Navigating Sustainability in Business

Imagine you are deep in the desert with a compass and a clock as your only tools. The compass provides direction—steady, unwavering, guiding you toward your destination. The clock, however, reminds

you that time is not infinite; it urges you to act swiftly and decisively. For leaders shaping sustainable businesses in 2024, these tools symbolize the dual imperatives of clarity and urgency.

Without direction, action is futile; without timeliness, even the clearest vision becomes irrelevant. This metaphor encapsulates the essence of our journey toward sustainable business practices—a balance between strategic foresight and decisive implementation.

As we reflect on 2024 and chart a course for the future, we must distill the lessons of the past year to refine our strategies. This article explores key takeaways for shaping sustainable businesses, offering a roadmap for leaders determined to harmonize profit, people, and the planet.

The Year in Reflection: Lessons Learned

1. Purpose: The North Star of Success

2024 was the year purpose-driven businesses rose to the forefront. These companies didn’t just tack sustainability onto their to-do lists; they wove it into their very identity. Brands like Patagonia and IKEA demonstrated that aligning social and environmental goals with a larger mission builds resilience and loyalty—not just among employees but also with customers and investors.

Did You Know?

According to the Edelman Trust Barometer, 88% of institutional

investors now scrutinize a company’s environmental and social impact when making decisions. Additionally, purpose-driven companies were 2.5 times more likely to outperform their peers on key financial metrics in 2024 (Harvard Business Review).

To lead successfully, CEOs must articulate an authentic purpose that resonates across every level of the organization. When people see their work contributing to something meaningful, they innovate, collaborate, and persevere.

2. Collaboration Over Competition: Scaling Impact Together

One thing became clear in 2024: sustainability is not a solo endeavor. From global alliances addressing renewable energy adoption to consortiums tackling supply chain emissions, collaborative efforts created the kind of impact no single organization could achieve alone.

Stat to Remember:

Collaborative action reduced material waste by 45% and cut CO2 emissions by 30% in industries participating in circular economy initiatives, as highlighted by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.

The most impactful businesses are building bridges, not walls. Whether through cross-sector partnerships or industry-wide knowledge sharing, scaling solutions requires stepping out of silos and into alliances.

3. Redefining Innovation: Beyond Technology

While headlines often focused on breakthroughs in renewable energy

or carbon capture, many companies discovered that some of the most effective innovations didn’t involve shiny new gadgets. Businesses that reimagined their value chains— adopting circular principles or exploring subscription-based business models—found new ways to thrive sustainably.

What the Numbers Say:

McKinsey estimates that adopting circular business models could unlock $4.5 trillion in economic growth by 2030 while drastically reducing waste. Meanwhile, companies that embraced cultural innovation—such as embedding sustainability in team KPIs—saw measurable ESG improvements.

Innovation isn’t just about technology. It’s about challenging assumptions and redesigning systems to create lasting change.

4. Transparency: The Bedrock of Trust

In 2024, transparency wasn’t a choice; it was an expectation. Stakeholders—from customers to investors—demanded clear reporting on everything from carbon footprints to supply chain practices. Businesses that embraced this challenge-built trust, while those that fell short faced public scrutiny.

Eye-Opening Fact:

The CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) reported that businesses disclosing their environmental impacts attracted 15% more investor trust and experienced 20% higher consumer loyalty than those that did not.

CEOs must prioritize honesty and accountability. By acknowledging challenges openly and communicating progress clearly, businesses strengthen relationships and stand out in competitive markets.

Looking Ahead: Strategies for 2025 and Beyond

As we step into 2025, the clock ticks

louder. The future of sustainable business hinges on leaders who can translate reflection into action. Here’s how:

1. Lead with Empathy and Boldness

Leadership today requires walking a fine line: listening to diverse stakeholder concerns while making bold decisions that demonstrate commitment to sustainability. Whether it’s transitioning to renewable energy or redesigning products for lower impact, boldness inspires confidence.

Proof in Action:

A World Resources Institute study found that businesses transitioning to renewable energy reduced operational costs by up to 20% while significantly enhancing public perception.

2. Make Sustainability Everyone’s Job

Gone are the days when sustainability lived in a single department. From marketing to procurement, every function must align its goals with environmental and social impact. Train teams, reconfigure KPIs, and incentivize actions that contribute to the bigger picture.

Did You Know?

Companies with sustainability embedded across departments were 46% more likely to hit their ESG targets (Harvard Business Review).

3. Leverage Digital Transformation

Data is your ally. From predictive analytics to AI-powered efficiency tools, technology enables real-time tracking and decision-making. Companies embracing digital transformation are better equipped to identify trends, reduce waste, and adapt quickly.

Statistic Spotlight:

The International Energy Agency found that using AI in energy management could cut global energy

demand by 10% by 2030—a huge win for both businesses and the planet.

4. Stay Ahead of Regulatory Changes

Sustainability regulations are becoming stricter worldwide, and staying compliant is no longer optional. Proactive businesses not only avoid penalties but also position themselves as leaders in the evolving market landscape.

Key Insight:

More than 70% of global GDP is now covered by net-zero pledges, and governments are accelerating policies to enforce them (UN Global Compact).

5. Prioritize Stakeholder Engagement

Engagement isn’t just about broadcasting your achievements—it’s about fostering meaningful dialogue. Active listening, collaborative strategy-building, and transparent updates create loyalty and buy-in from stakeholders.

Stat That Matters:

Businesses with robust stakeholder engagement were 50% more likely to meet sustainability goals (Science Based Targets initiative).

Conclusion: A Legacy Worth Building

Sustainability in business is no longer about incremental change—it’s about transformation. The compass and the clock remind us of the delicate balance between vision and urgency. As CEOs, your decisions today shape ecosystems far beyond your organization’s walls.

The world doesn’t need followers; it needs architects of change. Leaders who not only dream but also deliver. By applying the lessons of 2024 and stepping boldly into 2025, you can create a legacy that’s not just profitable but also meaningful.

The time is now. The compass awaits.

TAI KWUN

LAUNCHES

CENTRAL MAGISTRACY, A NEW PERMANENT HERITAGE EXHIBITION

DEEPENING OUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE HISTORY AND HERITAGE OF TAI KWUN, THE NEW EXHIBITION SEEKS TO BRING OUT THE HUMAN ELEMENT IN THE ENCOUNTERS BETWEEN PEOPLE AND THE COURTS.

Tai Kwun is excited to announce the rejuvenation of Central Magistracy, two new permanent heritage exhibitions - Central Magistracy: Administering the Law and Central Magistracy: Jurisdiction and Punishments, opening to the public on 18 October, as part of the multiyear project. Respectively held in the courtroom and its basement, these exhibitions examine the historical and heritage significance of the Magistracy.

The exhibitions explore the pivotal role of Central Magistracy in Hong Kong’s criminal justice system, from 1841 to 1979, when Central Magistracy was decommissioned. The Magistracy was the earliest court to be established in Hong Kong. Today it stands as one of the city’s few remaining neoclassical monuments.

From 1841 to 1979, this institution was Hong Kong’s busiest court of justice, the main point of contact between ordinary people and the law. More than three million men, women and children were tried there. Early magistrates dispensed harsh punishments under a system of unequal laws. Over the decades, a fairer system of justice emerged as social conditions improved. The law increasingly came to serve the whole of society, rather than just the interests of the elites.

The exhibition showcases the changes in the Magistracy’s architecture, and the evolution of the Magistracy’s role, and the development of Hong Kong’s judicial and social history. Focusing on the experiences of the people

brought before the courts, the exhibition highlights the struggles and inequalities of everyday life in a city divided by class, ethnicity, and language. Although separated from us by time and circumstances, their stories resonate across the years. They help us connect with the past through our shared humanity.

“This exhibition combines in-depth historical research with artistic interpretation to provide glimpses of historic court cases heard by the Magistracy. Through true stories of people, the presentation informs a deeper understanding of the judicial and social history of Hong Kong. We are delighted to have Dr Christopher Munn, a distinguished historian, to be our guest curator. The artistic interpretations by two young talents, Kate Chung and Eric Fok, have brought history to life,” said Dr Anita Chung, Head of Heritage at Tai Kwun.

“Central Magistracy was the busiest court for much of Hong Kong’s history. Magistrates tried most criminal cases and also decided whether or not persons accused of more serious crimes should be committed for trial by jury in the Supreme Court. The cases tried here offer excellent opportunities to explore the experiences of people of many different backgrounds,” said Dr Christopher Munn, Guest Curator.

“Here at Tai Kwun, we are committed to presenting historical narratives that unveil new perspectives about our site to stimulate a more complete understanding

New permanent heritage exhibition, Central Magistracy: Administering the Law

and encourage cultural discourse. The Central Magistracy exhibitions are a continuation of that mission, connecting our present to the past in ways that inspire reflection and conversation,” said Ms Chin Chin Teoh, Director of Tai Kwun.

The journey through the Magistracy, at a glance

The exhibition Central Magistracy: Administering the Law welcomes visitors into one of the courtrooms, where the past is brought to life by photographs and exhibits showing the crimes tried by magistrates and the punishments they imposed. In the basement below the courtroom, a further exhibition Central Magistracy: Jurisdiction and Punishments, focuses on the powers of magistrates and the punishments they enforced.

At the entrance to the courtroom a large streetscape by the artist Eric Fok, entitled Regulated Chaos, invites visitors to reimagine the relationships between people, institutions, and the city as one era flows into another. Graphic narratives created by Kate Chung, bring to life a selection of real historical cases. Another highlight is the specially commissioned model of Central Magistracy, by the Australian studio, Make Models.

Heritage Offerings at Tai Kwun

Visitors to Tai Kwun are invited to explore the heritage site and discover its rich history and cultural

significance. We offer the special Architectural Legacy: Guided Tour to help visitors understand the architectural value of the declared monuments, from the building technology of the cantilever staircase to the transmission of traditional craftmanship in Chinese roofing. Students are invited to participate in Courtroom Theatre, an innovative heritage learning programme specially designed to promote social and emotional learning through reenactment of historic court cases. The programme provides a fascinating way to learn about history and develop interpersonal skills outside of the classroom.

The Heritage & Community: Baluster DIY Workshop allows participants to carve their own mini versions of Tai Kwun’s iconic balustrades and is accompanied with a heritage tour that highlights their historical significance. Additionally, the Heritage & Community: Tactile-Audio Interactive Experience offers a tactile and multisensory learning experience for all visitors, while being specifically designed to aid visual impaired visitors in their learning journey, ensuring the site’s unique legacy is accessible to all.

There will be ongoing refurbishment of other heritage interpretation spaces to offer new permanent exhibitions across the site. Tai Kwun is committed to offering high-quality and in-depth heritage programmes for promoting and enhancing the heritage value of our site.

PRINCE MOHAMMED BIN SALMAN ROYAL RESERVE

BRINGS BACK THE ONAGER TO THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA AFTER 100+ YEAR ABSENCE

Prince Mohammed bin Salman Royal Reserve proudly announces the reintroduction of the Persian onager to Saudi Arabia, marking the species’ return to the Kingdom after more than a century of absence.

In April 2024, seven Persian onagers were translocated from the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature’s Shaumari Reserve in Jordan to the Reserve, establishing the first wild population in the Kingdom in over a

century. Following their 935-kilometer journey, the onagers have adapted well to their new habitat, with the birth of the first foal in the Reserve—a significant milestone in rewilding efforts for both the Reserve and Saudi Arabia.

“These are the first free running onager seen in Saudi Arabia since their extinction in the early 1900s. Historically celebrated by Arabic poets, these strong, untamable and elusive creatures are classified

as Endangered by the IUCN, with fewer than 600 Persian onager remaining in the wild globally. Their reintroduction represents a transformative step for their conservation and a major landmark in the Kingdom’s biodiversity efforts,” said Andrew Zaloumis, CEO of Prince Mohammed bin Salman Royal Reserve.

Historically, the globally extinct Syrian wild ass, a close genetic relative

of the Persian onager, roamed the Reserve as an ecosystem engineer. Today, the Persian onager has taken its place, playing a critical role in the Reserve’s ambitious landscape and seascape restoration program—one of the largest in the Middle East.

This historic achievement was made possible through cross-border collaboration with Jordan’s Royal Society for

the Conservation of Nature (RSCN), reinforcing the principle that nature knows no borders.

Mrs. Batool Ajlouni, President of the Board of Directors of RSCN, stated, ‘’The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature has been conserving the wild onager since 1982 and is pleased to see these efforts bearing fruit in Prince Mohammed bin Salman Royal Reserve in Saudi Arabia. The joint

project began in 2024 when the Reserve signed a cooperation agreement with the RSCN to conserve not only this important species, which once roamed Arabia, the Syrian Desert, and the Levant, but also to foster real collaboration in conserving ecosystems, habitats, and ecological connectivity through best practices in protected area management and effective capacity-building programs. The Royal Society looks

forward with hope that another wild population of onagers is being established in Prince Mohammed bin Salman Royal Reserve’’.

The Persian onager, smaller than other wild asses, features a pale sandy-red coat, a light brown dorsal stripe, and short tails. Renowned for their speed, these animals can reach up to 70 km/h. Their extensive migrations historically rivaled the Great Migration of Africa’s Serengeti. Dating

back some 4 million years, Persian onager are older than the Arabic horse and African zebra.

The return of the onager aligns with the Reserve’s Integrated Development Management Plan, supporting the Saudi Green Initiative and Vision 2030. Since 2022, the Reserve has successfully reintroduced 11 species, including 60 Arabian oryx, 14 Nubian ibex, 125 Sand gazelle, and 22 Mountain gazelle. Additionally, six

bird species, including the Griffon vulture and Pharaoh eagle owl, have been reintroduced.

The Reserve’s landscape wide habitat restoration program is enabling nature to heal, fostering the resilience required for reintroduced species to thrive and restoring ecological connectivity. As generations witness the onager’s revival, it may once again be celebrated as a symbol of wildness and the importance of conserving it.

TOPIAN OPENS FIRST CLIMATE-RESILIENT GREENHOUSE IN OXAGON

Topian, the NEOM food company, has inaugurated its first high-tech greenhouse in Oxagon, NEOM’s reimagined industrial city on the Red Sea coast. The opening of the climate-resilient agricultural asset, in northwest Saudi Arabia, aims to pilot sustainable localized production enabled by high-technology solutions.

Located in Oxagon’s dedicated innovation district – Oxagon Innovation Bay – the first Topian greenhouse spans four hectares of state-of-the-art facilities. As part of Topian’s mission to redefine food production through innovative, sustainable food systems, the pilot aims to optimize productivity and crop quality, while minimizing inputs, especially the use of natural resources such as water and energy.

Dr. Juan Carlos Motamayor, CEO of Topian, said: “This project is exciting because this first set of high-tech greenhouses enables us to control the climate for plant growth in an environmentally friendly manner, producing almost four thousand tons of fruit and vegetables, while developing AI-driven predictive models for the operation of more efficient greenhouses elsewhere in the region. It represents a positive step towards boosting regional and national food security and transforming food systems in Saudi Arabia and other arid regions affected by climate change.”

Vishal Wanchoo, CEO of Oxagon, added: “This pilot aims to deliver, at scale, sustainably produced ingredients that NEOM residents and hospitality partners will be able

to use – demonstrating an entirely localized ‘farm-to-table’ supply chain. Together with Topian, we are taking the next step in utilizing clean technology to change industry for the better.”

The first phase, focused on modulating climate parameters and assessing the suitability of different crops in varied production systems, will test various configurations and automation. Cooling efficiency will be one of the key parameters. Topian’s scientists and technicians will optimize energy and water use through existing and novel cooling technologies and radiation control, leveraging in the future NEOM’s extensive photovoltaic network.

Fruit and vegetable trials will identify which produce performs best in local conditions, analyzing taste, color and texture to deliver a superior consumer experience. The goal is to provide consumers with year-round availability of local produce, like lettuce, tomatoes and strawberries, which will be fresher, tastier, and produced more sustainably.

Topian will use this pilot to inform optimal crop growing conditions. The investment in high-technology production facilities establishes a testbed for other companies looking to develop diverse products and services to meet global demands. The opening of the facilities also marks another milestone in realizing NEOM’s vision to establish sustainable industries of the future.

The construction of this key asset has been achieved through an international partnership with Van der Hoeven, a Dutch pioneer in horticultural technology.
