Brian Sharun’s Wintery Wonderland

Michelle Pinon News Advertiser For the past 23 years, Mundare area resident Brian Sharun has been creating Christmas decorations out of sheet metal. He has more than 20 handcrafted sheet metal decorations in his front yard. Each one of them is outlined with either rope or LED lights and can be seen from miles away from Highway 16 or Highway 15 by motorists. This year he added a snow globe, and a cowboy boot, hat, and cactus to his collection. Every year he also raises funds for charity. Some of the previous recipients have included the Stollery Children’s Hospital, STARS as well as the local food bank.
This year he is raising funds for the Mundare Fire Department to purchase a commercial pressure washer. The first decoration he made was of a snowman. He sold it to Mundare resident Elsie Andruchow, who donated it back to him last year. Brian has already started on a couple of new decorations for next year. It is a labour of love for him and he is happy to bring some Christmas cheer to one and all. The farm is located one mile west of Highway 16 or south of Highway 15 on Range Road 170. He plans to keep the decorations up until Ukrainian Christmas on January 7.
Town of Mundare to Receive Infrastructure Funding Michelle Pinon News Advertiser The Town of Mundare will be receiving just over $71,000 in funding from the provincial government to complete an infrastructure project in the community. Tracy Allard, Alberta’s Minister of Municipal Affairs, officially notified the town in writing that it had accepted the town’s proposal for a sidewalk. Colin Zyla, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Mundare, said the project would include the placement of a sidewalk from Highway 855 to 50 Avenue. “It will enhance the safety of residents who live south of Highway 855 who walk downtown. The project was select-
ed as it could be financed under the grant program and could be completed in 2021,” explained Zyla. The funding for the project is through the Province’s Municipal Stimulus Program, (MSP). Minister Allard stated in her letter, “The MSP will help your community recover from the economic challenges posed by the pandemic and the downturn in energy prices. It also positions communities to support local jobs and participate in future economic growth.
