Up to 1,200 homes in Greater Manchester were left without power for days after nearly a month’s rain fell in 24-hours during the festive break. Christmas was ruined as the floods spelled untold misery for the thousands of residents in the areas affected.

Guillotine (Wesley Wainwright) regularly films himself with unsuspecting strangers, including celebrities, in his day to day life, before documenting the encounters on his Facebook page with now over 15k followers. After buying freshly-made Caribbean hot meals, to feed the homeless people living on the streets in dispersed camps of the city centre, Guillotine was the victim of an unprovoked racial attack. As the 31-year-old parked his car near a homeless white couple he intended to feed and talk to on Oxford Road, the woman shouted “You n***a, b*****d!”...

n 10 December 2015, a former Oklahoma City police officer – Daniel Holtzclaw – was found guilty by a jury, of raping more than a dozen wom-
en, while on duty. After listening to several weeks of testimony, an all-white jury returned the guilty verdicts against Holtzclaw at the end of a fourth day of deliberations in Oklahoma City, US.
The sentences recommended by the jury along with each guilty verdict add up to 263 years, US reports have revealed. Hotzclaw is scheduled to be formally sentenced in January. District Attorney David Prater said he will ask the sentences be served consecutively.
The women were teenagers and grandmothers. Most were living on the margins. All of them were black. During a month-long trial, they formed a bleak parade of 13 witnesses who accused a former Oklahoma City officer of using his badge to coerce sex acts and rape. Holtzclaw was fired from the force in January 2015. In a statement released on 10 December 2015, the Oklahoma City police department said it is “pleased with the jury’s decision. We are proud of our detectives and prosecutors for a job well done … [We] firmly believe justice was served”.

elebrations belong to the end of year. Following suit, Manchester Academy staged its annual awards ceremony at Manchester Central at the end of November 2015.
arlier in December 2015, Alan Yentob resigned from his £183,000 a year job as BBC Creative Director. Following speculation around his involvement within failed charity Kids Company, Mr. Yentob has also stepped down from his role as Chairman of Trustees within the charity.
The Academy celebrated their students’ successes with John Shiels, Chief Executive of the Manchester United Foundation, and the Academy’s Principal Andy Griffin, along with the governing body to present the awards.
The 68-year-old has faced heavy scrutiny for his alleged role in the financial mismanagement of the organisation, whilst facing claims that he tried to influence the BBC’s coverage of the charity’s demise. The BBC Trust will lead the investigation into Yentob’s supposed dual roles.
Special guest John Shiels delivered an inspirational speech; citing the key factors required to succeed. He also made a point that it is not about where you are from, or how much wealth you have, but your input and determination to succeed which makes all the difference.
The charity folded on 5 August 2015 – six days after receiving a £3m grant, in a last ditch attempt to keep it afloat.
The evening celebrated the achievements of current students with prizes for each individual form, year group and subject area, whilst also honouring the academy’s former Year 11 pupils. ardeen is spoilt. Father Christmas will need to do two trips to drop off all his gifts. Fardeen is a praise junkie, and his family are the pushers. When he does well, his family give him a gift. In school, it’s exactly the same. If a question is asked and he knows the answer, his hand will reach to the heavens, eyes pop out of his head and he will burst a blood vessel in his head if prevented from demonstrating to the class just how smart he is. This is only appeased with a “well done”, from the teacher – allowing him to bask in his own brilliance. But praise is a contentious issue, as the matter has moved from something nice to acknowledge success, to a debated facet of child development. So do you say well done, when they’ve done well? There are parents at my daughter’s school, who do not believe in praise or punishment. Their belief is based on a revolutionary theory, that children should be coaxed into doing things for their intrinsic rewards, not for external gains. The theory seems viable, as the children should grow up to enjoy life based on life; happiness is not validated or empowered from others. The downside is, their child is frigging mental. Imagine a world without police, religious teachings or any praise or deterrents in our life? Now imagine this is a world of children? Frigging mental! A review by Henderlong & Lepper (2002) suggests that praise is vital, but care should be placed on how praise is administered. A few recent texts including Bayat (2011), support the need for a regulated praise for effort and not outcome. The moral of the story for parents is, to praise based on how hard they have worked and not how well they have done it. Fardeen got a Playstation 4 for getting good grades; however he deserved a set of marbles for his effort in my lessons.

I bet you are all saying to yourselves, ‘I always listen’ or ‘I’m a great listener’. And I am sure you are... However, listening is not the same as hearing. Hearing is just about sounds, but listening is about focus. It is about paying attention. I believe that listening is the most powerful way you can connect to someone. That is why it is important. So, if you want to improve your listening skills, then the following may help you: 1. Stop talking: Sounds obvious I know, but when someone else is talking, just listen. Try not to interrupt or talk over them. Focus on what the other person is saying. 2. Avoid distractions: Try and avoid unnecessary interruptions. Including looking at your mobile phone, doodling on paper or starring out of window. 3. Be patient: Sometimes a pause can be a good thing. Let the speaker continue in their own time. Try not to finish their sentence for them.

Be sure to ask for one of Pho’s bibs however, as this immaculately made broth is a tad fiddly. In any case, eating this is an intense but fleeting experience – like wildflower picking.

King Burga aka Burga Boy returns for Fr££ TNT Yasin Chinembiri
M
anchester’s multitalented king is back. This time, the effortlessly likeable artist has an even more triumphant reason – essentially a Triumph pt.2, in the name of ‘Fr££’. King Burga, formerly known as Burga Boy, has remarkably released a second album just 5 months after launching Triumph. On Christmas day in 2015, the 24-year-old, released
Fr££ across Spotify, Tidal, Play Store, iTunes and Soundlcloud. Whilst the music on the album was all planned, “It wasn’t meant to be an album; it was only meant to be an EP”, he told TNT. However when he started putting it together, he felt the pieces of the puzzle fitting into place effortlessly – “it was an inspired album”, he explained. On the inspiration of
the title, King Burga says “Fr££ is a statement of my financial freedom. It’s more about me not letting money control me in any kind of way”.
With only Tupac featuring on his last album, King Burga has a number of artists featuring on Fr££ including Manchester artists Sleepy, Show, Time, Flames, H Blacks and Cleveland Ohio’s Riz Leigh. “I’m very selective with who I work with. A lot of people jump on the bandwagon and I’m only interested in people who do their own thing. If it [a feature]
organically happens, then I will do it”, he said. Of his main inspirations, King Burga points at Bob Marley as he feels he mirrors the Jamaican legend’s ethos – “singing for God” and being sincere in his music. The 12-track album is out already on the aforementioned platforms.

Guillotine Mack DIARIES Single TNT Entertainment
I
n response to Tina O’Brien’s “Please can you f*** right off” and then losing his job, Guillotine has created a single which is available on iTunes for only £0.59. The single, ‘All I Want for Christmas Is My Job’, has already had over 111k views and over 3.3k shares. Commenting on the ‘beef’
between the Corrie star and Guillotine, Lungi Kwesa wrote, “And I thought bugzy vs chip was entertaining...the track is HARD mate”. All the money from the sales of the single, is going to charity, Guillotine told TNT. “I even asked Tina [O’Brien] to choose a charity of her choice. She tweeted ‘Ok I will do’”, and then later “It was down; I don’t know where that [tweet] went”. She then reposted a charity but didn’t say if
it is the charity she wants. She is doing it indirectly...that’s not good enough”. If you know anyone in need of financial help then get in touch with TNT, as Guillotine wants to donate the money to someone who is in real need of help.
Behind the scenes
RIO and X Factor semi finalist TNT Entertainment
O
n 19 December 2015, R.I.O a.k.a Rio Nelson a.k.a south Manchester’s finest rapper gave TNT yet another reason why he is perhaps the most-commended and most-respected MC in the city. The 29-yearold gave us the exclusive honour and pleasure of joining him behind the scenes during the filming of his upcoming music video – ‘You Don’t Know’. Throughout our city and beyond, R.I.O effortlessly exudes authenticity in all that he produces, and what’s more is that his exemplary dedication is matched by his immense talent. Out in January, You Don’t Know’s video will focus on R.I.O’s childhood in the community he grew up in – Moss Side. Working closely with 23-year-old Misha B – also a Moss Side girl – R.I.O explained that the concept behind the video was from the 2011 X Factor semi-finalist. “I spoke to Misha B about what ideas we should get for a video. She came up with the idea of getting young
kids acting as me and my peers as we came up in the music game. It didn’t work out like we initially planned, because a lot of people didn’t turn up”, he told TNT. Innovatively, R.I.O decided to base the concept “on me and my friends, rather than a group of MCs I came up with. So it is just about me and my people”. A team of up to 11 children are to appear in the video which is directed by R.I.O himself. “I got my family and friends involved in the video. I’m just basically re-living all the moments I had when I was growing up. I used to live on the estate, stay at my nana’s sometimes, Portman road, chill out, go to youth clubs, go town centre”, R.I.O audibly reminisced with TNT. When TNT mentioned how R.I.O is keeping it local and still involving the community despite his fame beyond our city, he said, “Yeh keeping it authentic and real. This is what it

was, this is how we was; attitude and we thought we run the place”, before laughing jokingly as he gestured a stance. After filming at Chicken Run in Moss Side, the crew moved to Powerhouse, Market Street (city centre) and Unity Radio. With a little help from his friends and cousins, R.I.O managed to garner the enthusiastic team of adolescents for the video. “Misha B’s nephew will be acting me”, he said before confirming that the rest of the cast are some of his cousins and friends, and “that was it”. Keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming video. This man’s energy and ethos is both admirable and inspirational. TNT salutes him and his music. R.I.O’s Concrete Rose EP will also be out in the summer of 2016.

The standard model is simple. A local population, allegedly desperate to mimic their European and North American counterparts, would be willing to pay grossly inflated prices, for the privilege in markets with little domestic competition. However, a recent study by Boston Consulting Group suggests differently. While Western companies are making money, the crucial point is that they are losing market share to the underestimated local competition.

According to BCG, the local companies have several key advantages including superior market knowledge, which enables them to design and deliver products specifically for local tastes. What We Believe? Adventists believe that God is concerned with the quality of human life, and that everything - the way we live, eat, speak, think, treat each other, and care for the world around us - is part of His plan. Our families, our children, our jobs, our talents, our money, and our time are all important to Him. Adventists accept that the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God: The Holy Scriptures, Old and New Testaments, are the written Word of God, given by divine inspiration through holy men of God who spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. Most notably, Jose Mourinho (Chelsea), Brendan Rodgers (Liverpool), Garry Monk (Swansea), Dick Advocaat (Sunderland) and Tim Sherwood (Aston Villa); it’s been a rough year. National Squash Championships
The 2016 British National Squash Championships is to be played at the National Squash Centre in Manchester, on the all-new glass show court. Can Nick Matthew become the men’s champion for the fifth successive year, and will Sarah Jane-Perry be able to repeat last year’s stunning success and emerge as the women’s champion again? The championships are to be held from the 8 to 14 February 2016.
Tracey will be joining double gold Olympic medallist Dame Kelly Holmes, as a guest of honour at a star-studded gala dinner at Hotel Football on Saturday 6 February 2016 . The sporting heroes will be inducted by fellow Olympian Diane Modahl on behalf of the Diane Modahl Sports Foundation (DMSF); they’ll be presented with their coveted awards as well as taking part in an exclusive Q&A session on the night. Also on the evening is a charity auction of items signed by sporting legends who have donated personal articles to raise money for the fantastic cause. Previous recipients include the most decorated Olympic cyclist of all time Sir Chris Hoy, Premiership and England footballer Rio Ferdinand and Manchester City Council leader Sir
Richard Leese. Tracey said, “I’m over the moon I’ve been invited to join such inspirational athletes in the Hall of Fame. I can’t wait to join Dame Kelly Holmes as a Champion and raise as much money for the DMSF as possible. The charity supports young people in my home town and I’m looking forward to meeting the talented youngsters and upcoming sporting stars of the future”. Born and bred in Bury, Tracey is the sister of ex-Man United players Phil and Gary Neville. City of Champions is the brainchild of Diane Modahl who forged her own successful athletics career from her home city of Manchester. The event is a bi-annual celebration of the many great Champions from not only the sporting world, but of inspirational business people and leaders in their
field who make a huge difference by inspiring lives and areas. Diane commented: “Tracey is an inspiration to our youngsters as she was playing netball at county level by the age of 14 – so this is something our DMSF participants can aspire to”. “There will be a host of champions and sporting legends also attending who will provide more inspiring figures for DMSF participants to learn from.” Tickets are now available for the dinner, which will also be attended by famous faces from Manchester and beyond; including soap stars, former inductees, business people and legendary sports stars. Prices start at £1000+VAT for a table of ten, and single tickets are available for £125+VAT.

Joshua is happy to give Whyte a rematch, citing “I’ll definitely fight him again because he can provide me with what I need to progress, which is tough rounds”. It was a thrilling fight with an even more exuberant atmosphere at London’s 20,000-capacity O2 Arena on 12 December 2015, as Joshua grabbed his 15th win – all KOs.

Joshua, 26, came into the fight with 14 straight knockouts in the first three rounds. However Whyte, 27, gave him a run for his money. Unbeaten in 16 pro fights, with 13 knockouts, Whyte suffered his first loss to Joshua. Before the fight, Whyte said, “I don’t like the guy [Joshua] because he’s fake and he puts on this demeanour that he’s this and he’s that”. In December 2015, Whyte did indeed take it to Joshua in the initial rounds, but took plenty of shuddering blows as a result, and looked at one point as if he might not last three minutes. League - albeit briefly. The fans want him out; there’s no debating the issue according to them. If the Dutchman is kept to the conclusion of his contract, which ends after next season, it rules out any possibility of bringing in the most desirable coach in world football, Pep Guardiola. It also rules out the possibility of appointing a proven and available winner like Jose Mourinho. After finishing 6th in 2015; the writings may be on the wall for LVG – he may end up being the 6th manager to get the chop in the league this season. If United sack him, it will undoubtedly release the pressure and discontent hanging over Old Trafford. Ultimately this will give the Reds a fresh start after a fruitless period following the departure of Ferguson in 2013. If Giggs is chosen to replace LVG, the club would be bringing in someone with no managerial experience other than a short spell in charge following Moyes’ dismissal. There are no guarantees he would make a success of the job. Sack or keep; share your comments via @TheNubianTimes.
