Labour MP promises 15% salary donation TNT News In a bid to tackle homelessness and win this year’s Mayoral elections, Andy Burnham has said he would put aside 15% of his salary. This cash donation would be kept aside in order to kickstart a new mayoral fund, granted he wins the elections this May. With the hope of individual and organisation donations, this fund will prosper and work towards the homeless crisis in Manchester. “To be selected as Labour’s candidate for the first elected mayor of Greater Manchester

is a great honour and I thank our members for the faith they have shown in me”, he said. “I will repay it by devoting all my energy to uniting the Labour family here, working to win back the voters we have lost and building a policy programme with broad appeal. I will bring forward real answers to our housing crisis and give new hope to our young people”. Winning 51% of the party vote, Burnham beat Tony Lloyd, the police and crime commissioner and interim mayor. Lloyd received just 29% of the party votes. The elections, which will
take place in the spring, will see Burnham compete against Conservative candidate and Trafford council leader, Sean Anstee. Also in the mayoral running is Liberal Democrat, Jane Brophy, English Democrat, Stephen Morris, UKIP representative, Shneur Odze and Green representative, Will Patterson. The Mayor of Greater Manchester is a directly elected political post responsible for the strategic government of Greater Manchester. This includes areas of health, transport, housing, strategic planning, policing and skills. The
creation of the Mayor of Greater Manchester has been agreed between the Chancellor of the Exchequer and Greater Manchester’s 10 district council leaders, but requires new primary legislation. The first election will take place on Thursday 4 May 2017. Tony Lloyd was appointed as Interim Mayor for Greater Manchester on 29 May 2015 by the combined authority leaders. George Osborne announced the proposal for an elected mayor back in 2014. The creation of an elected mayor will require new primary legislation.

Greater Manchester Law Centre’s celebratory opening event in Moss Side was a major success. The event, which was held on Saturday 11 February, gained huge support from members of the local community. Over 500 hundred people attended the opening of Moss Side’s new Law Centre. The event was attended by Michael Mansfield QC and actress Maxine Peake. Human Rights lawyer, Mansfield, is one of the founders of the law centre movement. Seven of nine law centres in Greater Manchester have been shut after facing cuts of £350m to legal aid. Following these changes, people access less funding and for fewer types of civil proceedings. Mansfield said the opening of the new Law Centre is a great way to stand up against the cuts. It’s a way to say “we’re not going to allow this to happen, we want proper public funding”. Bolton actress and social activist, Peake, said it is “so important” that there are “places like this”. She said “access to free legal advice is as important as access to healthcare”. The Law Centre’s building was founded in October 2016 with the help of a generous charitable trust grant. Free legal advice services are provided by volunteers and solicitors. The new law centre is located within the heart of the Moss Side community on Princess Road.

The Nubian Times is a Manchester based daily online publication with a combined readership of over 175,000 and growing. TNT News is your source for diverse news.
It’s not often that I can say I’ve been touched by a movie. The topic of films has been done in so many different ways over and over again. Some, in fact, quite poorly. And I suppose to some, ‘Moonlight’ is no different, but to me it really was. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s a coming of age movie, highlighting the struggles of a young boy into adulthood. “Oh lord” I can hear you say, “it’s been done before”. But this boy is a black man, growing up in a rough, all black neighbourhood. I won’t include spoilers, but I will say that it is poetic, beautiful, raw and captivating to say the least. It will make some of you question your attitude towards the LGBT community. It may remind others about tolerance and humility; qualities we have all been taught and very few of us use regularly, especially toward our fellow LGBT individuals. Just saying! It’s a must see, hit me up on social media @ TheNubianTimes for your views. Oh Gosh, Donald Trump! - I’m going to leave that timebomb alone. I will say this though they need to take his mobile phone and his computer off him as this man can start a fight with anyone on social media. Yes people, this President gets bated by tweets - often! He will take on anyone…No-one is safe! Thank you to all the new Trafford readers, your support for the first issue has been outstanding. The Nubian Times is happy you have embraced our niche newspaper, a true alternative to mainstream news. There are some great stories

Homeless charity seek new premises TNT News Manchester’s homeless charity, Lifeshare, is desperately seeking new premises to continue their voluntary weekend breakfast service. For over 25 years, the charity has been helping the homeless and vulnerable in Manchester and Salford. Running the only weekend breakfast project in our city centre, Lifeshare volunteers serve around 7000 free cooked breakfasts a year. The generous work of the charity is supported by both donations from the public and local food suppliers. Due to the regeneration of their current premises on Dantzic Street, Lifeshare now need a new venue. In order to ensure the continuation of the charity projects, a new premise is needed by June 2017. Maxine Peake, patron for Lifeshare, said “this service is absolutely vital to Manchester
and its ever-growing homeless community. It would be criminal if we can’t find another space for Lifeshare to continue this essential work”. Lifeshare are calling upon members of the community and local businesses to help them find a new home. According to Peake, as members of the community we must find ways to “protect” and “support” the most vulnerable. A new location will ensue that Lifeshare are able to offer their services to those that need it most. Finding new premises will ensure a warm space where they can offer food, shelter, clean clothing and a

Remake of ‘Roots’ returns to BBC 4 TNT News The remake of ‘Roots’, the 1977 classic TV series, has returned to our screens. The adaptation of Alex Haley’s original 1976 novel, charts the journey of Kunta Kinte, played by up-and-comer Malachi Kirby. Through Kinte, the show paints a portrait of American slavery and its devastating consequences. America’s darkest period of history is revealed with unabashed honesty. After being captured and sold into slavery, ‘Roots’ follows the journey of true courage in the face of countless hardships. Kinte’s character is a proud and educated man who uses these traits to empower himself and the slaves around him. While enslaved, he encourages his peers to fight for freedom. He continually dreams
of escaping and returning to his family and his homeland. The unwavering determination to remember, and stay to true to his roots, proved popular with original audiences. The 1977 series was, at one point, the second most watched US TV show. The new mini-series also stars Emmy winner Laurence Fishburne as Haley. Grammy nominee Anika Noni Rose stars as Kunta’s daughter, Kizzy, who is bought by Tom Lea (Jonathan Rhys Meyers). Oscar winner Forest Whitaker stars as slave musician Fiddler, who mentors Kunta. 8 February 2017 saw the UK’s first TV air date. The show will be available to watch on BBC 4.

4 in 10 of India’s trans people abused before 18 4 in 10 of transgender people in India face abuse before they reach the age of 18. This shocking statistic has highlighted the severity of the struggle for trans individuals in the country. The statistic comes from a recent survey by the Swati Health Resource Centre. 2,169 transgender people took part in the survey, which has shed light on the negative experiences of abuse they have faced. Over 700 of the survey takers claimed to have faced sexual abuse, which some respondents said started from the age of 5. Overall, the survey found that the individuals were most vulnerable between the ages of 11 and 15. Over 1,000 of the survey takers reported emotional abuse, which was found to be the most common form of harassment. Physical abuse was also found to be common. 44% of the individuals reported
violence, which mounted up to 2,811 incidents. This statistic means an average of 3 incidents per person. Aside from incidents of abuse, the survey gathered information about each individual’s education and standard of living. The results showed that 30% had not been educated. It also showed that 30% were living alone, which proved to be down to their families turning their backs on them. A significant number of trans children are pushed to the point of dropping out of school. This happens as a result of them being unable to cope with the abuse they face within the school. Sharmila – a 44-year-old trans activist in India – has spoken about the struggles that she has faced. As a child, she experienced physical and emotional abuse at home and sexual abuse at school.

#Trump renames Black History Month TNT News museum stating, “people can learn about Reverend King, so many other things”. Trump also acknowledged Fredrick Douglass, the 19th century abolitionist. He said that Douglass has “done an amazing job” and is “being recognised more and more”. It has been noted that Trump referred to Douglass using the present tense – implying that he is still alive. The history month will allegedly now be renamed in books and calendars. The senior official reported that the changes were made with much thought. The White House released an official ‘African-American History month’ proclamation. The statement consistently referred to Black History month as ‘African-American History month’. The name change has been met with responses of outrage by many members of the African-American community. On Twitter one user wrote, “So you can change the name of black history month but not give us a
longer month???” Another user wrote, “what about the Africans that aren’t American? Do we just dismiss them now?” Some users have argued that other Presidents have also referred to the month in this way. The renaming of the month has surprised the international community.

The renaming of America’s Black History Month has been added to the growing list of Trump changes. Since 1976, February has been officially recognised as Black History Month in the US. This February, the new President has decided to rename the celebratory month, AfricanAmerican History month. A Senior administration official insider allegedly reported the name change to TMZ. The President has ruled that the term ‘black’ is outdated, viewing ‘African-American’ to be most appropriate. Trump reportedly met with a group of African-American leaders who agreed that ‘black’ is an outdated term. It was then decided that the celebratory month should be referred to with the term ‘African-American’. The new changes have also been inspired by the Smithsonian’s newest National Museum of African American History and Culture. The name change is meant to reflect the museum’s new addition. A solicitor, who was caught on camera in a drunken racist rant, has been convicted and fined. Alexander MacKinnon, 47, launched a racist rant against a mother and her four-year-old son on a Virgin Train. MacKinnon opposed the presence of Sanaa Shahid and son Zayn, who were travelling First Class. The train had been journeying from London Euston to Glasgow in December. Ms. Shahid had been travelling back home after visiting her husband who was working in London. Mobile phone footage recorded by Ms. Shahid captured MacKinnon’s racist remarks. MacKinnon asked, “How did you get into first class? You don’t deserve to be in first class”. The 47-year-old then sneered at the mother and son. He told them, “You should be in common class. In fact you shouldn’t be in this country at all”. The solicitor then remarked, “You don’t deserve to be here. Bloody foreigners. Where were you even born?” Ms. Shahid, who is a Glasgow born lawyer, said that the rant began when MacKinnon shouted at her son. The shouting began without reason, and then escalated. Other passengers failed to help Ms. Shahid, they only looked on and did not intervene. Shadid was left to report MacKinnon to the senior conductor. Speaking on the phone to a friend, MacKinnon can be heard saying “It’s my word against hers”. He spoke of plans to get off the train “If it stops at Carlisle”. “She doesn’t belong in this country”, MacKinnon said. The conductor then appeared. He said, “See now it’s not just her word, it’s mine as well because I heard it all”. MacKinnon was ordered off the train and was subsequently arrested by British Transport Police.

Trump still pursuing disputed Muslim ban
Donald Trump is continuing to pursue “all options” to reinstate his travel ban after it was blocked. The anti-humanitarian ban was blocked on 3 February 2017 after federal judges ruled that it was unconstitutional. Trump has faced several legal challenges. Despite this, the president has remained committed to reinstating the travel ban. He is prepared to bring the fight to the courts. The President’s senior policy advisor, Stephen Miller, has announced that a new executive order is being considered. The new anti-immigrant order will be drafted to include ‘new language’ which the courts will favour. Miller appeared on four major US news broadcasts to confirm that Trump will not be giving up on the order. Trump is prepared to go through all options to lift suspension on the ban. These options include: an emergency stay at the Supreme Court and a court trial at the district level. The redrafting of a ‘fresh’ order is also a favoured option. It is expected that the order will not violate the US constitution. The previous order violated the constitution – which prohibits discrimination on the grounds of religion. continued online

The ‘wrong’ lesbian is pregnant
TNT News The Lord Of The Rings star, Orlando Bloom, was a guest at Cheadle Hulme High School. The Hollywood A-lister worked with kids on a series of drama workshops. Also famous for his role in the Pirates of the Caribbean, the 40-yearold is currently dating US pop star Katy Perry. Bloom was a guest at the official launch of the new multi-academy chain, the Laurus Trust. The actor, who rose to fame playing elf Legolas in Lord of the Rings, worked with 11-year-olds teaching the ‘Cicero curriculum’. It is a style of drama education devised by Bloom’s former teacher and world famous voice coach, Patsy Rodenburg. Actor Paapa Essiedu, the Royal Shakespeare Company’s first black Hamlet, also attended the launch. It is understood both actors taught skills such as improvisation, developing a strong speaking voice, increasing presence and improving posture. Amongst other skills, the actors shared their tips on facial expression and eye contact. Bloom’s spokesman told The Times that “the thinking is that teaching these skills will not only get students interested in acting”. He said represented it will “also boost their confidence and social ability in a way that will make all the difference when it comes to Oxbridge interviews, competition for top jobs, interviews and impressing in the workplace”. TNT News It’s fair to say that we have had an interesting start to 2017, and we are indeed living in interesting, if not very serious, times. Brexit and the election of Donald Trump in America seem to have unleashed a tsunami of bigotry, hatred and intolerance. I have been astonished, but not surprised, by the sheer volume of hatred and prejudice spouted by politicians, commentators, the media and members of the public. It’s almost as if we have not learnt the lessons of history and we have forgotten that normalising and accepting this mindset, can lead to discrimination, violence and even genocide. We pride ourselves on being a fair and tolerant nation. However, it’s clear that we are forgetting our values. Tolerance is supposed to be the glue that helps to bind us together as a nation, but is tolerance enough? Aren’t we better than that? We tolerate bad weather, insects, late running trains, loud headphones on the bus, poor service in a restaurant etc. Tolerance is about putting up with things that you don’t like. But shouldn’t we expect more from each other? I ask again, aren’t we better than just tolerating each other? If we truly want to be a great nation and we want to isolate the extremists and those who wish to divide us, then we should include ‘mutual respect’ as one of our values. Respect is important because it means that I value you as a human being. We may not agree on everything and we may have differences, but I value you. I value your rights and your freedoms. I respect your gender and ethnicity. And I simply want you to respect and value me. If we all adhered to those principles then we could really call ourselves a great people and a great nation. However, people will only respect you if you respect yourself. People will only respect us, if we respect them. As the Chinese philosopher Confucius said “respect yourself and others will respect you”. Stay focused and stay blessed.

shoestring fries, the dish is beautiful in both taste, texture and look. The buttermilk pancakes, made with blueberries and honeycomb butter are a popular choice and it’s not difficult to see why. It was not only us, but customers alike, have named these pancakes “the best they have ever tasted”. To describe them as fluffy would seem to me to be an insulting understatement. The consistency is almost air-like, resembling a souffle and is an extremely moreish dish. In keeping with the theme of unusual but delicious food was the dessert of choice. The avocado, honey and lime cheesecake blends the creamy thickness of avocado with sharp tangy lime and sweet honey. Sprinkled on top was a caramel and pistachio brittle that was delightfully crunchy. The service in Evelyn’s Cafe is absolutely sensational and worthy of its praise. Jason, our host, was not only warm, smiley and hospitable but had an extensive knowledge and interest of the menu. Evelyn’s Cafe Bar is a must go for anyone wishing to escape the mundane. “What is Blak Whyte Gray?” I hear you ask and “have you spelt it right?”. The answer to the latter is yes and to the first is as follows. Blak Whyte Gray is the latest masterpiece to be added to the hip hop dance phenomena. Unfolding before your eyes on stage is a creative, well-choreographed hip hop dance production. Blak Whyte Gray offers an enchantingly, haunting, yet gritty and very powerful triple bill dance production. Boy Blue Entertainment – the creative partnership of choreographer Kenrick
Sandy and musician Michael Asante – have been impetus in the new wave of hip hop dance theatre for a number of years now. The entertainment company, in bringing this ensemble of extraordinary theatre to the stage, give hip hop dance a mainstream platform. This then yields in turn an acceptance and freedom of expression that only this contemporary dance production exudes.

TNT Entertainment Faith Evans has announced that she is preparing to release a new duet album, collaborating with her late husband. Evans is working on the B.I.G project, entitled, ‘The King and I’. Faith will collaborate with her legendary husband, The Notorious B.I.G on the 15-track album. The album will tell the story of the romance shared between the former couple. The pair married in 1994, 3 years prior to B.I.G’s (Christopher Wallace) death. ‘The King and I’ is set to be released on 19 May 2017 in time for the legendary rapper’s birthday. The ‘It Was All a Dream’ rapper would have been 45-years-old this year. The album will feature new vocals from Faith, which will be combined with familiar Biggie tracks. Along with the familiar will come the new. Faith will also deliver melodies over ‘rare and unheard’ B.I.G rhymes. Other legendary rappers, including Lil Kim, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes and Jadakiss will also feature on the album. Rapper Lil Cease and R&B quartet 112 will also feature. The album will be narrated by Biggie’s mother, Voletta Wallace. Faith said that she told Ms. Wallace of her desire to create the project years ago. Faith told her that she thought it would be “dope” to create a project similar to Natalie and Nat King Cole’s, ‘Unforgettable’. Understanding the love Biggie had for his children, Faith feels it’s her “duty” to “uphold and extend his legacy”. The legendary R&B singer says the project is a “creative reflection” of their love and bond. This is a love and bond which Faith says they will “always have”. Faith is “elated” to be able to share this project with fans. This year also marks the 20th anniversary of B.I.G’s death. The project will be embraced by Rap and R&B fans alike. This will be a great way to celebrate B.I.G’s birthday and remember the anniversary of his untimely death.
The quaint Northern Quarter pub, The Castle Hotel, was the venue that was home to the first gig of the long-awaited ‘Hometowns Tour’. On a Sunday evening in a pub deeply cemented with the city’s vibrant music scene, David Gorman headlined the show, like the name suggests, in his hometown. Supporting him were fellow friends and musicians, Alx Green, Joel Gardner and The Healing. Independently funded, the four artists are travelling around the country showcasing their unmissable talent in their hometowns. Manchester saw David take centre stage on 22 January, just as Macclesfield saw Joel Gardner headline the second gig in Mash Guru the next day. Performing in Y Pentan in Mold, The Healing was the headline act and Chester-born Alx Green no doubt stole the show at his headline gig at Telford Warehouse. The small and humble venue of The Castle Hotel was only enhanced by the stage’s set up. Covered in twinkling lights, the atmosphere was as pleasing to the eye as the music was to the ears. Starting the show, Alx Green wowed the crowds with his array of original songs. The percussion play on his guitar was particularly effective in creating the mellow and soulful sound the night promised. Joel Gardner and his accompanying
guitarist soon followed with his acoustic and folk-like performance. The fingerpicking guitar style and use of the Mississippi stomp box at foot continually demonstrated the sheer level of talent and added to the thriving enthusiasm of the audience. The Healing, playing on both guitar and sound box took to the stage next. The emotional rendition of their original song ‘Oh Father’ was particularly memorable. Finally, David Gorman took centre stage. Armed with incredible talent and charisma, David showcased his original songs. ‘Another Midnight’, taken from his upcoming EP was, and will continue to be, a personal favourite. Accompanied by Awen Blanchford, a talented cellist, David sang his songs to a crowd who sung them right back. The intimate room intensified the sense of support amidst the crowd. With a mixture of friends, family and avid supporters, it truly felt like an honour to be a part of the incredible tour.

TNT Entertainment Remy Ma has expressed guilt over the loss of her baby on a recent episode of ‘Love and Hip-Hop’. Fans of the rapper and her husband, Papoose Mackie, found out about the miscarriage on 23 January 2017. The news was revealed on an episode of the show. After the episode aired, Remy posted a prerecorded video of her in hospital. Remy spoke about the devastating outcome, revealing that she had started to fill out and make pregnancy plans. Following the revelation, another episode of the show followed the couple as they tried to work through their depression. Papoose had a heart-to-heart with his mother. His mother advised that it wouldn’t be healthy for him to deal with the loss alone. With his wife going through the same feelings, he then understood that they must deal
with the loss together. Remy opened up to her husband, expressing guilt over the loss of their child. The 36-year-old rapper blamed herself for the miscarriage. She said if she were “more on top of everything” the miscarriage “wouldn’t happen”. Papoose tried to expel those feelings, he said, “I don’t want you to feel like it’s your fault”. Standing by his lady, Papoose told her, “I’m gonna be here for you regardless”. Since the news broke, fans have been displaying their support for the couple by leaving messages on social media. On Instagram, Remy Ma thanked those who sent “congrats as well as condolences”. BETNetworks

Manchester singer and fashionista, Jsky, recently released his new single ‘Turn You On’. Following his recent Channel 4 appearance on the highly popular and controversial show ‘Extreme Makeovers: On Fleek’, Jsky excitedly shared the news with TNT. Having recently spoken to TNT exclusively about working in the studio to produce an oldschool RnB EP, Jsky’s single is off his EP which he says is “due out later this year”. According to the 29-year-old, “Turn You On is a fun, catchy and infectious pop single referencing a classic 80’s hit and a great introduction to 2017”.
Pop sensation Lady Gaga is reportedly set to launch her own brand of wine named ‘Grigio Girls’. Gaga’s company has reportedly signed paperwork which puts in motion plans to launch the wine brand. The ‘Grigio Girls’ company will produce wine, wine coolers, wine cocktails and wine punches. ‘Grigio Girls’ is similarly the name of the bonus track on ‘Joanne’, Gaga’s 2016 album. The track is reportedly inspired by Gaga’s friend, Sonja, who suffers from cancer. The lyrics of the song capture the relationship shared between Sonja and her friends. Gaga sings about how she and her and friends would gather and reminisce about happier times over a bottle of wine. The launch of the wine brand will pay tribute to Sonja and their cherished friendship. Reports speculate that, Pinot Grigio will be the most ‘fitting’‘flagship product’. Gaga is familiar with the food and drink industry as her parents own an Italian restaurant in New York. The New York City restaurant is called, Joanne Trattoria. The ‘Poker Face’ singer has also displayed her love for wine through her outfit choice. Back in 2011, Gaga dressed as a wine cork and grapes on US comedy show, Saturday Night Live.
TNT Entertainment Celebrating 50 years since the cultural height of the Motown era, ‘The Magic of Motown’ ignites an image of bright and dazzling glittercovered performances that bring back the magic of the once thriving genre. Theatrical renditions are in abundance and include legendary artists such as the Supremes, Temptations, Jackson 5, Isley Brothers, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie and more. Despite being billed as ‘a huge cast’, the number of different faces on stage was not quite as large as one might expect. The show was fronted by 7 singers, made up of 3 women and 4 men. What did, however, take up the majority of the stage parameters was the orchestral band who were present throughout the entirety of the show. With a relatively small stage, the performances, as brilliant as they were, felt seemingly claustrophobic. With heart-felt and soulful sounds, ranging paces of choreography
and dynamic stage performances, the show, especially its second half, is worthy of the praise it receives. However, as enjoyable as the show is, it does not come without its criticisms. Even though a large percentage of the Lowry audience relished in the performance as a whole, due to the smaller than expected cast, some may feel it lacks lustre. The first half of the performance seemed
slower, not necessarily in rhythm or beat but in a general format. An audience member was approached during the interval, “I’ve seen many a tribute Motown show and this is merely average!” he said very matter of factly. “Merely average” is not the phrase that instantaneously came to mind during the show as a whole. The second half injected me with a much needed lift. The Jackson 5 set was particularly memorable as well as the acapella rendition of ‘The Tracks of my Tears’. The audience reaction to the show is definitely a key and defining aspect of the performance. The cover of Martha and The Vandella’s ‘Dancing in the Street’ had the audience out of their chairs and dancing. It is exactly this joy and vivacity from the audience that adds to the experience. The singing ability of all involved is truly admirable and worthy of significant praise. Whilst the show is by no means showstopping, it does indeed makes for an extremely entertaining night that can be enjoyed by the whole family.

Mark Zuckerberg has moved into a position of influence and dominance in the tech industry. Many believe that the Facebook CEO and Sillicon Valley founder has moved into Gates’ winning position. It is widely agreed within the tech community that Zuckerberg has become one of the most important figures within the industry. Zuckerberg’s influence, style of leadership, strategies and charities has been compared to that of Bill Gates back in the 90s. Zuckerberg is viewed to have the same drive and determination as Gates – who is set on ‘winning at any cost’. Bill Gates once dominated the tech industry with his gadgets, productivity apps, web browsers and software. Zuckerberg is now doing the same when it comes to apps and the advancement of social media. As Zuckerberg continues to see success, we witness history repeat itself. One of the major similarities between the two is their status as the richest people on earth. According to Forbes, Zuckerberg has a net worth of $53.8 billion [£43.2 billion]. Zuckersberg’s net worth grew by almost $5 billion [£4 billion] in the first two weeks of 2017. Zuckerberg – who owns 410 shares in companies – had suffered losses following the week of Donald Trump’s election. However, his fast recovery highlights how far his reach extends. Zuckerberg continues to have a lot of influence – as Gates did in his prime.

The changes affect some of the nation’s largest councils, including Manchester – where tax costs will rise by 4.99%. The new tax rise will see some household bills increase by approximately £50. At least 28 of the nation’s biggest councils are included on the list of those planning to increase tax. “There should be more transparency from the council”, a Swinton resident opposing the rise told TNT.

TNT spoke to Caroline; she told us more about her business and the role she fulfils. Caroline’s herbal business was established in 2010. She says that the founding of the business fulfilled her desire to practise as an herbalist. Most importantly, Caroline wanted to “help people with health challenges”. This is especially as many of these people “are not responding to doctor’s treatments”. Caroline’s herbal treatments take a different approach, working on a mind and body level.
Caroline has much experience in medical and pharmaceutical industries. She has over 12 years of experience and has worked closely with GPs and hospitals. Her experience in this field taught her “a lot about the limitations of pharmaceutical medicine”. Caroline says that pharmaceutical drugs “suppress symptoms and cause side effects” which “in turn also need to be treated”. Caroline understands that individuals must “work with” the body and “listen” to the “messages it sends as symptoms”. Caroline’s services are beneficial to the public as she offers a “unique perspective”. Her services are especially unique as she uses iridology to assist

Greg Clarke – chairman of the Football Association (FA) – has made a suggestion to male gay footballers. Clarke thinks that a number of gay players should get together and come out, at the same time. The idea is that the prospect of coming out as a group is less intimidating than being the only one to do so. Coming out alone would be extremely daunting, especially since there are currently no openly gay footballers whatsoever at the top levels of the game. Clarke had an interview with The Times, in which he discussed his proposal. He said: “I put the message out there that if a number of top-level pros want to come out, why don’t we synchronise it? “I’ve met 15 gay sports people in the last four weeks to ask their views, including footballers”. Men find it very difficult to come out within sport in general, but we have seen
Manchester Academy students were inspired by a recent visit to the school by Manchester United’s players. Manchester United Players, Ashley Young and Henrikh Mkhitaryan paid a surprise visit to the school on 8 February 2017. The visit comes as part of the Academy’s partnership with the Manchester United Foundation. The Foundation uses football to engage and inspire young people. Football coaching, educational programmes and personal development sessions are delivered by the Foundation. The inspirational players took part in Maths, French and English lessons. They also staged a mini press conference with students. Following these activities, the players then took part in football activities, showcasing the Foundations ‘Street Reds’ provision. The provision is an evening football programme, held at 12 locations across the city. Students escorted the
some sportsmen coming out in recent years in other sports. Within football, the silence is yet to be broken. There has been a survey targeted at football fans, in which the results showed that most would be happy to support a gay player from their own team. However, there are fears that the fierce rivalries between top level clubs could cause fans to be homophobic towards gay players from other teams. Clarke has also been working in his role to support black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) individuals. He’s working to increase these individuals’ chances of landing managerial jobs within the sport.
