The Observer Election Special 2014

They should have informed us earlier kay para sila ang mauna namu pag-interview. And another reason nganu wala mi nakapaghinabi nila is because the SSG adviser asked for a letter signed by the Head of the Student Affairs and of the Campus Director nga mag-interview mi. To make it clear, gi-invite sa Campus Media ang The Voice isip mga kandidato pa lang sa umaabot nga piniliay, dili isip mga SSG Officers. One function we hold is for the development of the school and SSG Election is for the development of the school. Should we ask specific persons for our office to play its role? How can we then serve as an important tool for the development of our school if that would be the case? Where is Press Freedom? But still, we asked the Head of Student Affairs if we should secure a permission letter for this activity and this is what she said: “Ay dili na kinahanglan [ang letter] kay inyo mana trabaho.” Right namu nga buhaton ang amo trabaho. We remembered we had the chance to ask former SSG Adviser about the participation of Faculty in the SSG Election. He said “No. Dapat dili manghilabut ang faculty and instructors. Non-partisan sila dapat”. All the laws in the land agree with that. Now, as we release this Newsletter, our objective is clear: To serve and to announce why usa ra ka party amo na interview.

The Alliance of Students for School Progress - the sole party that The Observer was able to interview yesterday

The Observer has limited print for this Newsletter

“Di mo pwede basta-basta mag interview ug walay letter!” We organized an interview for the two running parties kagahapun.

This is a student activity. If there would be one acitivity nga angay di manghilabot ang instructors then that would be the SSG Election. Let the students practice good leadership. With the success of the first interview with the Alliance of Students for school

progress, who would have thought “violation” diay ang amu gihimu? Mao ni ang nahitabo: We have informed The Voice partylist four hours before the interview. We waited for them. We could have their profiles and platforms but they have failed to grace us because as the current officers, magplanu sila for today’s activity. The meeting was headed by Mr. Cadiente, SSG Adviser. see page4

A message from outgoing SSG President by Romnick Landero “Leadership is not a position, it’s an action.” One of my favorite lines or shall I say my motto, from the moment that I’ve decided to run from the SSG position.

For almost 3 years of being an SSG Officer or President to be specific. I’ve learned so many things in life. I’ve meet a lot of friends, people, different students who made me a better person. Being the president of Supreme Student Government is indeed a very wonderful and memorable experience.

Yes it is! Because from these experiences I know more how to socialize with other people, though it’s not true but still we accept it in order for us to improve not just for the quality of our leadership but as well as to become a better person. My journey as your SSG is very colorful and meaningful, because through this experience, I know how to become a leader, to organize events, plan ideas & solutions to solve problems. I’ve learned also how to appreciate other

people, most especially my co-SSG Officers & the different Organization Presidents, their efforts and cooperation, and contribution for the success of different activities. Honestly speaking, no words can explain how happy I am that I was given this once in a lifetime opportunity as your SSG President in our beloved institution. For me, leadership does not necessarily have to be copied from the book or from the things you have learned see page2

Anti-admin, What is it? Simply put, what is being condemned is not the offender but the wrong doings. ...A message from outgoing SSG President from your class. Though they may be a part and to some extent necessary, but still leadership should be primarily value-based and responsive to the needs of organization or company. This then rejects the notion of right or wrong leadership. As long as a leader is able to transform and inspire his followers, the leadership can be value neutral. They can be either be good or bad. The challenge will be forwarding. As leaders, we should be conscious about the environment we live and be socially aware of the current issues. There should be no room for apathy as Plato would put it, the greatest punishment that we can get for refusing to lead and take part in the society is be ruled to someone inferior than you. In my part, we should remember that the youth are no longer just the hope of the future but the catalyst for change of today. By being president or part of the student council reaffirms our conviction that serving the students should always be the priority.
