This was evidenced by a sign found in a trailer a year ago at the 1st Annual Timber Inn and Behling Pro Motorsports Vintage Snowmobile Show that said, “A vintage snowmobile is like another man’s wife, look and admire but do not touch.” The Behlings, Maurice and Renee, owners of the trailer and Behling Pro Motorsports, have been attending snowmobile shows for years. “We love doing it,” Renee Behling said. “Vintage shows have really taken off,” she continued, “and we figured it was

The youngest entrant was nine-yearold Aydon Perkins from Chippewa Falls, Wis. His support group included his parents, Steve and Ann, and Adam, his older brother. When asked when he started riding snowmobiles, Aydon said, “I was about eight.” His mother set the record straight when she told him, “You rode on your brother’s snowmobile when you were four.” “My Uncle Jay,

When her husband Ron and son Adam bought this Arctic Cate El Tigre for $100, Nancy Wendt said, it was just “a pile of junk.” After they restored it, Adam raced it until he left for college. Then he said, “Here, Mom. You take it and show it for me.” She named it Feral Cat. The snowmobile won Best Restored and People’s Choice awards at the 1st annual Timber Inn and Behling Pro Motorsports Vintage Snowmobile Show. Ron said, “We got our $100 out of it.” The Wendts are from Eau Claire, Wis.

Graduating from junior to full-size sledding, nine-year-old Aydon Perkins anticipated hitting the trails with this 1971 Lynx Arctic Cat, Model Z-120. He was at the show with his parents, Steve and Ann Perkins, and his brother, Adam.
Maurice Behling, Joe Naijbrt and Randy Manlett are serious about their judging duties.
This dragster style 1971 EXT 800 Arctic Cat was built from stock Arctic Cat components. Only the magnesium alloy frame, the hand-crafted aluminum body, and the fuel injection system were custom made.

The French have a word for it---“Oooo la! la!”
by Joan Sween My sister-in-law’s birthday was coming up soon, and I was cudgeling my brain for a suitable present as I sat in her kitchen watching her roll out pie crusts and then use a fork’s tines to seal the dough around the rim. A crimper! I shouted to myself, giving a little squeak of inspiration and almost falling off my stool. I could buy her a vintage pie crust crimper.
Maybe two or three. Old crimpers can be found in hundreds of shapes and made of metal, plastic, wood, bone, ivory---even vulcanite. It might even be the beginning of a neat collection for her! Next flea market, I rushed eagerly to the first booth, operated by a lady who sported an excess of bosom covered by an insufficiency of fabric. I turned quickly to

The Man I Married, “Why don’t you go on ahead? I can catch up.” Too late, he had already noted the wardrobe malfunction. “That’s okay, I’ll stay with you,” he grinned cheerfully. “Go. On. Ahead.” I said between clenched teeth. Having determined many years ago which side of the bread his butter was on, he winked at me teasingly and sauntered off. I turned to the lady, trying not to stare at her exposed generosity. “I’m looking for old crimpers,” I said in a rush. Updated 03/09/17 “Right over here,” she said, moving down a table and picking up a plate with colorful peasant figures on it. “No, that’s not what I mean,” I said.

“You asked for Quimper,” she said. “Actually, no. Although these multichrome peasant figures are quite charming, what I said was---” “I get it,” she said. “You don’t want the colored figures, you want all blue and white. You should have asked for Delft, not Quimper.” She picked up a Delft salt box. “Hang on a minute, we’ll get this straightened out,” I said. “I was trying to point out that it’s French, and---” She seemed puzzled but still willing to help me. “You want French pottery?” she asked, reaching into a box under the table. “Good heavens! Don’t bend over!” “I’ve got some French stuff right here,”

Little beads of sweat started at her clavicles, made a turn at the foothills, and headed down the valley. “Imagine a pie plate,” I said. “Don’t have a crimped pie plate,” she said. “How about a crimped sandwich plate?” She flourished one. “I’m not looking
