OCAD U students looking for what keeps condo communities connected HILARY CATON hcaton@insidetoronto.com Social cohesion and connection is important to building a traditional community, but how does that factor into residents’ sense of belonging when living in a condo community? Four OCAD U students, in the Masters of Design program,

are in the process of figuring that out in the Liberty Village community by conducting a five-question survey for its residents. The survey focuses on pinpointing the places that boost and knock a person’s sense of belonging in the community as it relates to built-form and urban design. Bloor Street West and

Ossington Avenue area resident, Adrienne Pacini, and one of the students who created the survey said, “It’s its own little space.” “(We want to find out) how does a sense of belonging thrive in a community where it’s not the traditional houses in the suburbs, but more of a bounded area with The Gardiner Expressway, the railway tracks

and Dufferin Streets surrounding the community.” Liberty Village Residents’ Association president Todd Hofley believes living in a bounded condo area doesn’t isolate the community. In fact, he said it’s the opposite. “The idea that living in a home gives you more of a sense >>>GREATER, page 10
