For an hour on Monday, St. Francis Table and St. Clare Centre, at 1322 Queen St., opened its doors for a special event to help feed the hungry and homeless. Normally not open for Monday lunch, Brother John Frampton decided to team up with the Rhoddy community food truck and hand out piping hot gourmet chili complete with cheese and sour cream to those looking for a free hot lunch. “We got the word out to let people know that we’re doing

this special favour,” said Frampton. Those who accepted the bowl were encouraged to sit down inside St. Francis and enjoy hot cider, coffee, tea, cookies, buttered buns and candy canes. Victor Willis, the executive director of Parkdale ActivityRecreation Centre (PARC), was recently named a member of the newly created Mental Health and Addictions Leadership Advisory Council. “I appreciate that it’ll be a big learning curve on how provincial activities are shepherded,” Willis said. The PARC member will join 18 other individuals on the council. Willis said what he
brings to the table is a range of experience that doesn’t stop with his 15 years at PARC. “I can do what I can as somebody who’s worked in the field for 28 years in the mental health community. I will bring to it the lens of somebody who’s had personal experience in the system as three generations of family members that have had interactions with the health system,” Willis said. “I’m presuming that all of those factors are at play. I don’t think I’m the usual suspect for >>>WILLIS, page 7
