For the past 20 years, Gallery 1313 owner Phil Anderson has been taking photos of the quirky personality of Parkdale and he’s ready to share them with the community. In the Parkdale Pictures exhibit, Anderson provides a visual exploration of unique historical qualities of the neighbourhood, from architecture to landscapes. “For someone who liked to take photographs, it (Parkdale) was full of subject matter waiting to be photographed,” Anderson said. Anderson lived for 20 years at Queen Street West and Roncesvalles Avenue until he moved. Back then rent was $190 a month and his place came with a fireplace and a back deck. He said the neighbourhood’s poor reputation at the time didn’t dissuade him from moving in. “I realized that it was a neighbourhood with a sense of community and I was attracted to its history and the many examples of architecture in its buildings,” Anderson said. With Parkdale Pictures, which runs until Feb. 28 at 1313 Queen St W., Anderson hopes >>>PARKDALE, page 5
