RAHUL GUPTA rgupta@insidetoronto.com Work on a provincial study examining how to electrify a future rail connection to the airport is proceeding on schedule, said a Metrolinx spokesperson Monday. Karen Pitre said the provincial transit planning agency is making progress on a provincial environmental assessment (EA) examining how to best convert the Union Pearson (UP) Express air rail link from diesel to electric. Currently under construction, the link will be the city’s first fixed rapid transit connection between Pearson International Airport and Union Station when it comes online as of the 2015 Toronto Pan American Games. the community and the developer, Gairloch Developments and CentreStone. Despite an amicable beginning, the discussions didn’t get far in addressing the concerns raised by the community and as a result the working group has been dissolved. The working group met two times with Councillor Perks, the developer and city planners, but there was no resolution to

concerns about: the distance between the proposed building and Robert Watson Lofts, shadow and skylight concerns, visitor parking and the height of the building. “The community working group met and the developer didn’t move so I called a halt to the process,” Perks explained. The developer came back to the councillor and he set up >>DEVELOPMENT, page 18
