Special event parking now more Ex-pensive HILARY CATON hcaton@insidetoronto.com Attendees of special events at Exhibition Place will have to dig a little deeper into their pockets if they want to park on the grounds. Effective May 23 Exhibition Place raised its special events parking fee for select events with high demand to $30 from $25. The increase was approved by the board of governors during a meeting last Friday. “It’s not a terribly huge increase,” said Trinity-Spadina Councillor Mike Layton, who is in favour of the increase. “It seems logical; what are

we going to do, keep the rate the same for 50 years?” According to a board report put forward by staff at the meeting, the last parking increase was in 2009 with the new increase averaging about three per cent for each year since. Layton said this increase is a good way for Exhibition Place to stay competitive with parking rates for events in the city. “Parking is a huge revenue source for Exhibition Place when these events are put on,” Layton told The Villager. “Yes they charge for the event, but that doesn’t bring in a lot of revenue and we need to recapture it.
