RAHUL GUPTA rgupta@insidetoronto.com An eagerly-anticipated crowdfunded bus service launched this week for Liberty Village residents tired of packed streetcar trips. The Liberty Village Express (LVE) is the first transit service in the world to be funded entirely through online donations, said organizer Line Six. The project reached a target of $2,500 via an online fundraising campaign – enough money to launch on a trial basis a morning rush hour service between Liberty Village and Union Station which kicked off Monday and will continue until Friday. “People are liking the service, that they have a guaranteed seat,” said Taylor Scollon as he welcomed passengers Tuesday morning at the corner of East Liberty Street and Pirandello Avenue alongside his Line Six partner Brett Chang. “It’s a more comfortable experience than what they’re accustomed to.” Billed as an alternative to the overloaded 504 King streetcar, for a $25 donation, passengers were able to reserve one seat for every day of the trial run on a mini-coach bus chartered for the service.
