I previously served as the 1995 president of the Realtor® Association as well as local and state committees. Several weeks ago the Pinecrest High School Air Force ROTC displayed the colors of our great country during our holiday luncheon. I would personally like to thank the Pinecrest HS ROTC for participating in our program. These young women and men are a great asset to our community. I think it’s important during this holiday season to say thank you to the many Moore County Realtors® and affili-
ates who reach out to help those in need. An important responsibility of being a Realtor® is to give back to the community. Many brokerages and offices choose to participate in raising funds to support specific worthy causes. First-Time Buyers Fuel Optimistic Outlook Aided by the government’s home buyer tax credits, the outlook for housing and the economy appears headed for a sustainable recovery, according to the National Association of Realtors® (NAR). The association’s recently released 2009 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers shows that first-time buyers accounted for a record 47 percent share of home sales over the past year, up from 36 percent in 2006. Paul Bishop, NAR’s vice presi-
dent of research, said “It’s interesting to note that the last cyclical peak of first-time homebuyers was during the last noteworthy economic downturn, with first-time buyers starting the chain reaction that led the nation out of recession.” Even though unemployment remains a concern in some areas, existing-home sales are expected to rise 13.6 percent in 2010. New-home sales are projected to increase 38 percent from 2009 levels.

In 2009, 42 percent of sellers offered incentives to attract buyers, such as home warranties or assistance with closing costs.
