New banking and lending rules have turned the mortgage market upside down. A real threat on the horizon is the Qualified Residential Mortgage (QRM).This could have more of a negative impact then the MID. Negotiations and discussions are continuing in this matter. A result of this (bill) could be down-payment requirements of 20% for a mortgage. The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) supports a much less stringent guideline for this and is continuing to voice its opinion and concern in this area. Most people see REALTOR® ads, through the magazines, the internet and websites as well as newspapers. These are obviously promoting the sale of your home, your neighbor’s homes or other family members’ homes. What you may not be aware of is the effort put forth behind the scenes in defense of homeowner’s rights and financial stability of homeownership. These efforts are more on the federal and state level, but also include the local government. I want to give you a brief idea of what the REALTOR® Association is doing to protect home ownership as well as your property rights. In Washington, everyone seems to have the perfect plan on how to stimulate our economy and what rules and regulations are needed to make our housing market stable again. This creates an environment of multiple plans and ideas. Some of those plans will fall apart and some will move forward. The REALTOR® Association follows these plans and those who may be pushing the ideas. One of the plans, which surfaced in 2010, was the elimination of the MORTGAGE INTEREST DEDUCTION which has been around for almost 100 years. Interest deductions began as incentive to borrow money. In 1986, interest deduc-
