MONTHLY ISSUE Look out for Division & Club Updates!

letter from LTG

Hello Hello Purple Penguins! I hope you all have survived AP testing and are enjoying the last few days of school! Thank you so much for attending the May DCM, where we made dog toys from old t-shirts. I also hope you all got to participate in Region 17 Spirit Week and learned about useful information if you are an officer! Although we are still under shelter-in-place, the opportunities for service DO NOT stop! Service Projects Coordinators Madeline Cheng and Kavya Kaushal, as well as Fundraising Coordinator Joycelyn Li worked hard to create a service at home guide, which was released recently. Compiled by tech editor Leanna Chun, you can see various ways to serve and donate, all while safely at home. Check it out today! This month, look out for the June DCM, club visitations for officers, and more! Remember to stay safe and practice social distancing. Enjoy the rest of the very first newsletter made by DNE Alayna Lee!

letter from DNE

Hello Key-ute Penguins! My name is Alayna Lee, and I am your 2020-2021 Division News Editor! :D I am super excited to share my creativity and my pride for Key Club this term through the all the upcoming newsletters! Firstly, I know this term began with a rocky start, but I hope this newsletter can remind you of how far we have come as a division. All of you have contributed to help our community by staying home and helping with service projects/donating. It means the world to me to know that there are amazing key-uties like you who are still continuing to help during times like this. I can't thank you all enough for that. Key Club holds a special place in my heart and you are all the reason because of it. Everyone I've met through Key Club has been so amazingly kind and supportive that it makes every service event so fun to go to. Aside from that, I hope you all are staying safe and healthy. Take care, and enjoy the newsletter! :)

Waddling in Service, ALAYNA LEE

We had a Zoom meeting for the May DCM where we made dog toys with old t-shirts! The toys will be collected once we have more freedom to go outside as we please, so our penguins will hang onto them until then. Whoever attended the DCM got 1 hour of service!

OUR CLUBS CUPERTINO

This month, our club finalized our new officer board and had our first officer (online) meeting with the new team!! We got to know each other, established communication, and defined the roles of each positioned. Due to current events, we are unable to have any service events, but we advertised a local program called “Write-to-Change” where you can write encouraging letters to healthcare workers and drop them off at certain locations to be delivered to hospitals.

FREMONT

This month we trained the new executive board and our club is now officially under new leadership. There are so many things we have in store for this term! We are changing the way we communicate as a club and hopefully make everything more efficient and easily accessible. We’ve been organizing senior recognition to show our appreciation towards all the great things our loved seniors accomplished their past 4 years. We’re very sad to be seeing our seniors go, but we look forward to the new members to come.

GUNN

Over the past month we've run officer elections! We have a board but we plan on doing a second round of elections once AP tests are done. Also, we're planning an at-home service event with the Essential Heroes Campaign to make lawn posters in an effort to cheer on our essential workers in the community.

HOMESTEAD

Homestead Key Club is currently working with the ASB Vice President in beginning to prepare for a new school year such as club training day and fall events like recruitment at roundup day and club fair. Homestead did not have any fundraiser this past month but is beginning to look into fundraisers and service projects for the next month.

LOS ALTOS

Due to COVID-19, our club has not been able to complete any fundraisers, service projects, or outreach during the month of April. We hope to start fundraising and completing service events at the start of next year!.

LYNBROOK

Lynbrook Key Club recently elected the new officer team to start off the new term! We have partnered with Write To Change, a studentrun organization, to allow our members to donate handmade artwork to local health workers. We are also collaborating with Bayreach and several Lynbrook clubs to bring a new volunteer opportunity to our members: making face masks for essential workers. These remote opportunities encourage our members to stay active in volunteering during this unprecedented time.

MENLO-ATHERTON

Menlo Atherton Key Club has been staying safe and healthy during shelter in place. Our new 2020-21 board was officially elected this month and they have already taken office. We’ve been hosting weekly meetings on Zoom, planning a lot of new service projects, and getting ready to say goodbye to our graduating seniors.

MONTA VISTA

Monta Vista Key Club has recently partnered up with other volunteer clubs on our campus to participate in a mask drive! We just recently started this event and will be donating all masks that we make to healthcare workers all over the Bay Area!

MOUNTAIN VIEW

We just held our first Zoom club meeting together, and have finished training our officers. A few quarantine service opportunities have been advertised to our members, and we hope to offer more soon. Along with writing letters of gratitude to NYC nurses, our members have also been picking up trash in their neighborhoods. We reached out to a fellow student at our school, and have partnered up with him to make homemade masks as well.

PALO ALTO

This month we offered one service activity to celebrate earth day. For this opportunity we encouraged our members to take a walk and pick up any litter or trash. In totally, we picked up over 159 pieces of trash! Our club also offered the district service opportunity for writing letters to nurses.

Presidents: please submit your monthly newsletter summaries!

VISUALS & ARTICLES ZOOM KEY CLUB MEETING

MOUNTAIN VIEW

Zoom online Key Club meeting, discussed online volunteering opportunities and ways to help the community online. Introduced the new board of Key Club and reconnected with each other online. People could contribute ideas and thoughts towards the volunteering options.

LYNBROOK X WRITE TO CHANGE

LYNBROOK

LHS Key Club partnered up with Write to Change, an organization run by high school students hoping to bring the community together in thanking our local health workers through handmade and artwork. So far, the students’ cards have been donated to nursing homes and El Camino Hospital - we are striving to continue to donate to several other locations.

SUPPORTING WRITE FOR CHANGE

CUPERTINO

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our division looked into different and creative ways to help the community, with the Stay-At-Home order implemented. As a team, we came up with the idea of having our division collaborate with Write to Change, an organization on our campus that helps the community by allowing students to write a letter of thanks to the communities essential workers. Cassidy Yin, created both of the promotional pictures down below, and after we posted to our social media platforms, we had our division create letters to the essential workers in our area. We believe that with this, we were able to help better our community by giving back to those who have given so much to us. We started May 6th, 2020, and as a division we continue to write to the essential workers.
