d n e ' s LETTER l e t t e r DNE'S Hello hello Penguins! My name is Lauren Gaela and I am extremely excited and honored to be your Division News Editor for the 2022-2023 term! A little bit about myself, I’m a rising senior at Homestead High School and I have been in Key Club for 3 years. You might have seen me around in Key Club as last term I served as one of Division 34 South’s Executive Assistants and the previous year on the Division Service Projects Committee. Outside of Key Club you can find me playing basketball, grabbing food with family, or playing games with friends. For everyone who went to the May Banquet, I hope you all enjoyed the event! Congratulations to everyone who received awards and to our new 2022-2023 Division Leadership Team! I also want to thank IP LTG Maddie for all her hard work and dedication this term. We are going to miss you so much but know you are going to continue to do incredible things! As for our new LTG Sriya your term has fully kicked off and I am looking forward to all the wonderful things you will accomplish this term. By now most of you have finished finals and I congratulate you on a great school year! I hope you all have an amazing summer and continue to do some service :) I hope you all enjoy my first newsletter! Please feel free to reach out to me any time through Messenger, Instagram DM, or email!

Waddling in Service,

Lauren Gaela

l t g ' s lLETTER e t t e r LTG'S Salutations Penguins!

I hope your AP tests went well and you are finding some time to relax now that they are over. We’re off to a great start in the 2022-2023 term. You have all been incredible in working through club elections, hosting countless service events, and attending division events. Keep up the amazing work, and let’s maintain this energy throughout the term! Thank you to those of you who attended our May Banquet, where we honored some spectacular members and said goodbye to our IP LTG Madeline Cheng. Be sure to congratulate our award winners if you see them! Key Club Training Conference is just around the corner. Be on the lookout for an email regarding KCTC, which will tentatively be in July. The event will consist of educational workshops, fun activities, and a chance to meet Key Clubbers from across the region. You won't want to miss this incredible event hosted by the Region 17 LTGs! I am incredibly grateful for your support as I navigate this term. Please feel free to reach out to me if you ever need anything! I’m always available via email, text, Instagram DM, Facebook Messenger, and Zoom. Don’t forget to thank IP LTG Maddie Cheng for all of her work the last term, and please also be sure to congratulate Lauren on her first division newsletter!

Waddling in Service,

Sriya Pillutla

Fremont Key Club For the month of April Fremont Key Club held a Pura Vida Bracelet Fundraiser to raise money for their club funds. The purple bracelets represented our purple penguin D34S spirit!

In collaboration with Palo Alto YCS-Interact and Palo Alto Service Club at school, Palo Alto Key Club hosts a Paly Service day for students. This event provided volunteer opportunities both on and off campus.

Homestead Key Club Tote Bag Fundraiser "The tote bag fundraiser was a lot better than I expected because nearly all the tote bags were purchased by members! Seeing everyone collaborate and socialize truly felt like they enjoyed the event, and seeing all the different designs on the finished tote bags were amazing. We were able to sell 11 tote bags, making around $55." - Nina Vasquez, Homestead Key Club Secretary

SENIOR FAREWELLS Graduating seniors give their advice to future Key Clubbers!

Leanna Chun Mountain View Key Club IP Secretary and IP Division Tech Editor

I would tell future Key Clubbers to not be afraid. Don’t be afraid to talk to other people from another division, or do a speech for an officer position, or even organize and host an event because you can do it. I was a really shy person when I first started high school, and I didn’t even want to run for an officer position back then. I reluctantly did because Maddie [IP LTG] made me, but I am so so glad I did. Even if you don’t get a position you ran for, or an event doesn’t go as planned, don’t get discouraged. There are so many opportunities in Key Club, and I promise you, you will make friends, build leadership skills, and make lifelong memories. Just go for it!

Advice I would give to future key clubbers would be to talk with other members at events and reach out to them afterwards since they might end up becoming a good friend of yours. Also, give it your best shot if you want to apply for an officer position or any position in key club because you never know what may happen! For officers, don’t be afraid to reach out for help if you ever need it!

CLUB SPOTLIGHT Meet two D34S Club Officers!

Question: What made you apply to be an officer again? Answer: Key club is an open and fun space that I personally really enjoy spending time in. As an officer, I had the opportunity to share that experience with our members and help grow our community, so it was no surprise that I wanted to continue to build that community and penguin pride we’ve just begun to revive. Through Key Club, I’ve met key clubbers from all over and just really bonded through our mutual interest in Key Club. Personally, I enjoy Key Club because of the experiences that it provides with events like FRN and DCON!

Kimberly Bowman Mountain View Key Club Public Relations

Angelina Kondo Cupertino Key Club President

Question: Why did you join Key Club? What made you stay? Answer: I joined Key Club because I’ve always enjoyed helping my community, whether that was through donating a can of soup or my hair, or helping organize Christmas gifts for kids without them. Although I of course stayed in the club to continue the community service, I’ve also learned to love Key Clubbers. Every online Key Club event I’ve been to has great music and great conversations in the chat, and every in-person Key Club event I’ve been to has been super fun and makes me appreciate my past self for joining.

OUR CLUBS CUPERTINO ---

FREMONT After appointing our new executive board, we held a training session to give everyone an overview of board member expectations and responsibilities. We will be having our last meeting of the school year on 5/16. We will be going over how to stay involved with our club and our division during the summer, and giving out cookies!

GUNN We hosted our annual Kiwanis Meeting Takeover. We gave a presentation on most of everything our club and members have done this term, and we collected $175 worth of donations. We also elected our new club officers, and they’re all excited for the upcoming term!

16

HOMESTEAD In the past month, Homestead started our officer selection process and ultimately finalized the new team for the 2022-2023 term. We also held a fundraiser at the Cupertino Cherry Blossom Festival, where we ran a carnival game for the attendees. Members and officers attended an informational meeting beforehand to learn about event logistics, prepare game prizes, and sign up for their volunteer shifts. In the end, Homestead Key Club raised over $150!
