MONTHLY ISSUE Look out for Division & Club Updates!

letter from LTG

Hello Hello Purple Penguins! Thank you for attending Avenger-TC/the June DCM last week! I hope you were able to learn many new skills and useful information. I also hope you are having a great time on summer break with no school! As a reminder, please remember to stay safe during the pandemic. Practice social distancing and wear a mask when outside! I would like to emphasize the importance of service and fundraising during the summer, even while under shelter in place. It is vital that we continue to serve and to raise money for charities that need more help than ever. Please refer to Service Project Coordinators Madeline and Kavya's service at home guide that was sent out a couple of weeks ago, as well as Fundraising Coordinator Joycelyn's recently updated fundraising guide for this term! I hope to see all of you working hard to achieve our fundraising and service goals. In regards to goals, I have finished up club visitations with the officers of every club in our division, and I have received feedback on how to adjust these goals for shelter in place. I will be sending out the new goals for this term very shortly! This month, get ready to see exciting new service opportunities, our division t-shirt design contest, and much more! I hope to all of you attending these events and racking up penguin popsicle points. Remember to continue serving and fundraising! Read the rest of Division News Editor Alayna's newsletter, which includes recaps of past division events as well as exciting updates from both the division and the district!

letter from DNE

Hello Key-ute Penguins! Welcome to the July Newsletter! I'm so happy to hear the amazing feedback from the May Newsletter and I appreciate all of you for giving me your support. <3 Anyway, I hope that you all are still trying to stay safe. I realize that we are given more permission to go outside, but please continue to try and stay quarantined as much as possible. Issues revolving COVID-19 still exist, and we should continue to strive for good health for ourselves and others. Aside from that, I will stand with our community and support the BLM (black lives matter) movement. I proudly stand against racial injustice because I believe that no person deserves to be treated unfairly because of race/skin color. And although there is a lot of good that can come from public protests, we should continue to try and social distance. If you want to find resources about BLM, visit blacklivesmatters.carrd.co. I am grateful for all of you who are helping out with the movement and are also continuing to help our division grow. Thank you so much for the support, and I hope you enjoy reading this issue! :D

OUR CLUBS CUPERTINO

At the beginning of this month, our club officially announced the 2020-2021 officer board to the rest of the club!! Unfortunately, we were unable to hold any service projects or fundraisers. However, our officer board has communicated really well this month as there were many great questions asked and proposals made that will go towards more stable communication between the officers. Communication is KEY to a great team and a great year!!

FREMONT

This past month, we’ve been planning our leadership team. We’ve started recruiting members and looking for prospective Non- Exec Board Officers. We started pushing out service events that members can partake in over the Shelter in Place Order to start serving their community and giving back. Things have been kind of slow this month, but things will be picking up speed soon!

GUNN

Gunn Key Club has officially completed its officer elections and welcomes 3 new members onto the board; Nathan, Hannah, and Sophia. All of our officers have been in training and we are eager to begin planning online service events for the coming school year.

HOMESTEAD

Our club has kept in touch through Zoom, delegating roles for each officer position. We are getting a clearer view of what next year will be like.

LOS ALTOS

In the month of June, Los Altos High School Key Club has finished there club visitation and is preparing for the Key Club Training Conference. Currently, we are still trying to find a treasurer who is well suited for the position.

LYNBROOK

We have elected our officers for the next term and we have already trained the new officers. We have set our club goals and have held a meeting to discuss new changes that we want to implement next year. For example, we want to use our social media platforms more, have monthly socials, and hold more fundraisers if possible. We are discussed a back up plan just in case distance learning continues. We want to give our members the opportunity to earn their stole and volunteer even during these unprecedented times.

MENLO-ATHERTON

Menlo Atherton Key Club is coordinating some long term projects on top of our usual service. Members have been making face masks that will be donated to senior citizens at a local assisted living facility, They have also written letters to first responders to thank them for their hard work. So far, we have written at least twenty letters and made many face face masks. There are more of both on the way!

MONTA VISTA

We have been working on finding more service projects to offer our members. We are planning on contacting some organizations that we have worked with in the past, who have found ways to volunteer online so that we can offer members a safe way to give back.

MOUNTAIN VIEW

In May, Mountain View Key Club’s entire officer board attended the May DCM, collectively making over twenty toys for shelter dogs. We have also been communicating with our Kiwanis advisors as well as our school district officers to find a solution that allows us to legally hold off-campus community service events. In preparation for the following month of June, our club has made our support for the Black Lives Matter movement clear, and has made plans on how we can help the cause within our own club.

PALO ALTO

Our club has been planning events for the future and figuring out the best ways to reach our members during this time. The officers have been getting to know each other better and we are all brainstorming more events we could do given the circumstances at hand.

Presidents: please submit your monthly newsletter summaries!

VISUALS & ARTICLES NEIGHBORHOOD CLEANUP

MOUNTAIN VIEW

A service event for MVHS Key Clubbers to do, clean up around the neighborhood. Our secretary, Leanna Chun, was walking around her neighborhood and noticed a lot of pieces of trash. This allows for Key Clubbers to clean up around the community while getting service hours. May 3, 2020 was the day we advertised it for the club.

MAKING MASKS MOUNTAIN VIEW CONTINUED...

Mountain View Key Club partnered up with a fellow student, Mingkuan, in the community that had a service project for Boy Scouts in which he needed to make masks for the community. Key Clubbers had the opportunity to help make masks while also gaining service hours. The advertisement was made on May 3, 2020.

MAY DCM: DOG TOYS

LYNBROOK For this month' s DCM, we met over a one-hour zoom conference. We made our own dog toys out of old tshirts while getting to know each other. Key Clubbers from all over the district were in attendance.

OFFICER MEETING

MONTA VISTA

During the month of May, we held an officer meeting/discussion for the new 2020-2021 officer team to discuss and brainstorm ideas to improve Monta Vista Key Club for the coming school year. During this meeting, we recognized issues with our club last year like the lack of turnout during the bi-weekly meetings and the confusion regarding the division-wide events. We brainstormed ideas and solutions to fix these issues such as including mini service projects and activities during the meeting to keep members engaged and a deeper explanation about the division-wide events and the abbreviations for important terms to avoid confusions. Finally, we discussed about updating our social media platforms for often and tweaking the service points system for the next year.
