d n e ' s LETTER l e t t e r DNE'S Hello hello Penguins! I hope you all have had a great start to your summer break! Besides working on this month's newsletter I've been spending time with friends and family :) Let me know what you guys have been up to! I'm definitely looking forward to an in person Key Club Training Conference this month! Fun fact I actually had my Key Club moment at KCTC 2020 as an incoming sophomore. I remember being pretty nervous as it was my first big Key Club event and I didn't know anyone going into it. Even though it was online I still had a good time meeting new people while learning more about Key Club. Meeting all the Region 17 LTGs and workshop presenters definitely inspired me to continue my journey in Key Club. I am extremely grateful for that day. Hope you all had a great time at the June DCM / OTC. Officer training conference definitely got me hyped for this term! Enjoy the rest of your summer :) Feel free to reach out to me any time through Messenger, Instagram DM, or email!

Lauren Gaela

MEET THE DLT

Meet the 2022-2023 Division Leadership Team & their favorite Disney Characters!

Sriya Pillutla (she/her)

HEY HEY PENGUINS!!! My name is Sriya Pillutla and I will be serving as your Lieutenant Governor for the 2022-2023 term! Fun fact, I joined Key Club because my favorite color is purple and I really wanted Key Club merch from D34S (it’s safe to say I achieved my goal). In addition to my quantitative goals for this term, I want to build a closer community and make sure each member has the opportunity to get involved in our division. Outside of Key Club, I am part of the Mountain View High School Science Olympiad team and play badminton. I can’t wait to get to know each of you this term :D

Lieutenant Governor

Hey penguins! I'm Kimberly, a rising junior, and I'll be one of the Executive Assistants for this term. I've always appreciated Key Club's ability to make community service accessible and fun, so I'm delighted to be able to serve on the division board this year. Outside of Key Club, I'm a fan of badminton, acting, writing, and using Canva to make moodboards and all sorts of things. This year, I hope to improve member attendance and connection at division events---meeting other Key Clubbers has been one of the best parts of my experience the past couple years.

Hey everyone! My name is Kelly Chu, and I am a rising sophomore at Lynbrook! I will be serving as one of your Executive Assistants for the 2022-2023 term, as well as one of the Project Chairs for Lynbrook’s Key Club. I joined Key Club in my freshman year because of its friendly community, and I love to participate in the activities and fun service opportunities they provide. In my free time, I like to make music and create digital art and designs. My goal for this term is to foster good communication between the clubs in D34S, since communication is key to building a successful Key Club community.

Hello hello, Purple Penguins ! My name is Lauren Gaela and I will be the News Editor for this term. This upcoming school year I will be a senior at Homestead High School where I serve as my home club's Vice President of Projects. Other than volunteering in Key Club or playing basketball I enjoy photography and finding new music. My goal for the newsletters is to continue to feature different Key Clubbers and opportunities! Feel free to reach out if you ever need or just want to talk! Lauren Gaela (she/her) News Editor

Hi everyone! My name is Megan Tang and I will be one of your Tech Editors for this term! I will be a Cupertino High Sophomore soon, so hopefully, I can get my driver’s license this summer. My favorite food is rice, and I have an obsession with everything related to mushrooms! However, I’m not very good with plants; at this point, I’ll have to get a cactus :’D. I really like studio ghibli films and one of my favorites is The Cat Returns! I’m sure this term will be a great one, and I hope you guys are all having a nice summer! Megan Tang (she/her) Tech Editor

Hi Purple Penguins! I’m Ellie Yao, and I’m so grateful to serve as one of your Tech Editors for the 2022-2023 term! I’m a rising senior at Cupertino High School, where I also serve as their Key Club’s Secretary. In my free time, I enjoy going to the beach, shopping, and hanging out with my friends. Though this will be my first year serving for the Division, I’m so excited to see what the new term holds and hopefully meet you soon! Ellie Yao (she/her) Tech Editor

Hi everyone! I’m Adithri Sharma and I will be serving as one of your Secretaries for the 2022-23 term! This is my second year being a part of the DLT and I’m so excited to be a part of another fun-filled term. Fun fact about me, I love to sing! I’ve been singing since before I can even remember, and it’s always just been such a big part of my life. Along with that, I have also been playing the flute since elementary school. This year I’m really looking forward to having many more in-person events, and meeting all the new members. See you all soon! Adithri Sharma (she/her) Secretary

Hey d34s! I’m Susan and I’m super excited to be of the secretaries next term :) A couple of quick fun facts about me: I love dance, I really like listening to music and reading (send me any book/music recs!), and I am an avid pineapple on pizza supporter!! I hope to meet some of you guys soon at our future events and can’t wait to see what next term brings!

Susan Chen (she/her) Secretary

Hi! My name is Jazlyn Dias and I’m one of the service project coordinators for this term! I’m a rising junior at Mountain View High School! My favorite part of Key Club is how fun everything about it is, I’ve never attended an event I haven’t enjoyed! Some of my hobbies are baking, listening to Taylor Swift, and playing the piano. I also love competing in my school’s Science Olympiad! My goals for this term are to arrange large scale service projects that can help members make a significant impact and help everyone gain as many service hours as possible! Jazlyn Dias (she/her) Service Project Coordinator

Hi Key-uties! My name is Reeya Sawhney and I’ll be serving as one of the Service Project Coordinators this term. My favorite part of Key Club is being able to meet new people and make new friends! Outside of Key Club, my hobbies include listening to music, going on drives with friends, and reading. My all-time favorite movie is Howl’s Moving Castle and my favorite artist is either DPR Ian or Frank Ocean!

CLUB SPOTLIGHT Meet two Key Club Officers from Division 34 South!

Q: What are your goals for your club next term? A: My main goal is member engagement. Key club usually has a really high turn out in the beginning of the year and it dies down in the second semester. I think it’s important to have consistency within a club, especially one that is about giving back to the community. I want to achieve this by holding more service events for Fremont’s club specifically, and provide some sort of incentive to stay. Q: What made you stay in Key Club? A: I always loved volunteering, just never found the opportunities to keep doing it. so having a club which allowed me to do so at least once a month was a great opportunity for me. Q: What are your own summer plans? A: For this summer, I’m working a job at five guys! As well as visiting my brother in Virginia this week. In July, I’ll be flying to Texas to visit my girlfriend. Aljona Reyno

Fremont Key Club Secretary

Q: What are your goals for your club next term? A: Plan meetings during school hours, plan bi monthly at school service events, help brainstorm super cool fundraisers next term. Q: What made you stay in Key Club? A: I loved making friends and going to cool service events meeting people. With this club it’s easy to balance the school social work life. Q: What are your own summer plans? A: Through the summer I went to Costa Rica with my spanish class as an immersion activity. I also went to Colorado and went fly flushing and hiking with llamas.

Zoe Cohn Los Altos Key Club President
