AUGUST DCM: BOWLING Written by Annabelle Law

On August 17th, Division 34 South had their August DCM at the Homestead Bowl and the X Bar! After LTG Rebecca Pan adjourned the DCM, the event shifted into its social. This month, Lynbrook Key Club planned the bowling social! Few minutes into the social, club members were cheering for each other for their strikes, spares, open shots, and use of the gutter. Thank you to Lynbrook Key Club and president Julie Lee for making this happen!

OUR CLUBS Los Altos

We are preparing for the school year and getting ready for club rush! We are trying to have more service events and fundraisers as well.

Monta Vista In July, Monta Vista stayed active with 6 service events, ranging from helping out at the Palo Alto Art Center to doing arts and crafts and a senior center. Aside from service, we had one fundraiser to benefit PTP, where we sold ice cream floats at the July DCM and night market. Monta Vista also participated in two Kiwanis events, which were the Bill Wilson service project and a picnic + barbecue at Blackberry Farm.

Homestead We finished selling out all our churros at the July Night Market DCM! It was very successful. We have been planning for our school club recruitment and planning for the upcoming year.

Lynbrook After the hectic meetings and last-minute chats that we've had to prepare for the Night Market July DCM, our officer team agreed that it was an amazing experience. We were able to interact with so many new D34S faces for the upcoming term and socialize with neighborhood residents walking along to buy our Chicken Bakes. With August suddenly approaching, we are making last-minute fixes and plans for the August DCM that will take place on the 17th at a Bowling Alley. The officer team is beyond excited to further interact with the members within our division through this event! Because the school term is coming up, our treasurer has planned several fundraisers (currently contacting SomiSomi) for September, the month in which Key Club will have the most number of members and interest due to Club Rush. In addition, we are planning different methods to make emphasize our club during our school's Club Day, with ideas for making brochures, creating spirit sticks, and creating an outlay for profile pictures!

Mountain View

Throughout the month, Mountain View Key Club continued to prepare food for the less fortunate during weekly shifts at Hope’s Corner, serving 100-200 people each time. Members, both old and new, also spent hours working hard to clean up Paul Moore Park. At the July DCM and Night Market, a few officers held a successful boba fundraiser, Mountain View’s first official PTP fundraiser of the term!

Cupertino

In the month of July, there were no service projects nor fundraisers held. Our club did actively recruit new members for the 2019-2020 school year.

Menlo Atherton No update.

Fremont July was a very eventful month. We had a couple of volunteer events that were not successful. But, the Sunnyvale Public Library sale where volunteers float around, organize books, put away boxes, and help clean-up, was very successful. The sale happens every two months and our Key-clubbers volunteer here often. Our club sold Popcorn chicken in the July DCM Night Market and we gladly sold out! (We were also selling our Key Club Pins and are still available!) A couple of our Key-clubbers also participated in the Card Decoration service event of the DCM, where they make encouraging cards for hospitalized children. They made many cute cards decorated with adorable drawings!

Palo Alto We participated in the July DCM by selling ramen!! Other than that, the officers are busy with summer programs and/or they're traveling.

Gunn

Gunn Key Club continued to plan and prepare for the upcoming school year! The club presidents reflected upon the previous year and brainstormed ways to overcome these old challenges.

DWS: CAMPBELL PARK CLEANUP

!SROODTUO

On August 24th, Key Clubbers went to Campbell Park to clean up the creek, a walking trail that stretched a mile long, and the park itself. With so many volunteers from D34S and the Campbell community, various aspects of the park were cleaned for all visitors to enjoy!

VISUALS & ARTICLES Homestead Key Club recruits freshmen at Roundup.

FRESHMEN RECRUITMENT

Homestead

Homestead officers attended Freshmen Roundup to recruit freshmen for the upcoming year. This is one out of few opportunities to recruit new members. All officers attending decked out in spirit gear and brought posters to advertise to the freshmen. In total, Homestead Key was able to get 56 sign ups for their email list! We hope to gather more emails at our school's club fair!

BILL WILSON CENTER

!EVITCA EEB

Monta Vista At the Bill Wilson Center, Monta Vista Key Club and Kiwanis members came together to help clean up the shelter. They washed windows, laid new mulch, and washed the Bill Wilson van. It was a great opportunity for club members to get to know Kiwanis members!!

BIO-BLITZ Mountain View Mountain View Key Club volunteered at the Bio-Blitz at Hellyer Park. They worked with docents to help others identify and learn about the local wildlife.

Volunteers help the kids learn about local wildlife.

KIWANIS BARBEQUE

Monta Vista The Kiwanis Barbecue took place at Blackberry Farm. It was an afternoon filled with fun and yummy food. We got to converse with different Kiwanis members and get to know them better while sharing a meal with them.

PRO TIP! Get to know your club's supporting Kiwanis club by attending their meetings or volunteering with them. Kiwanis support us and can help subsidize for trips (DCON).

NEW BUSINESS

Spirit Gear is here!

Order your D34S spirit gear today! Wear it to events like FRN and DCON! Buy each item separately or buy everything in a spirit pack. Let your club officers know that you want to order!

Letter from DNE Hey Key-uties! Thank you for reading through the September Newsletter! Can you believe that summer is over? With the end of summer, another adventure begins! This September, your club’s member base will grow exponentially from recruitment at Club Rush. It’s so exciting to plan with other officers and members on how to recruit new members through ideas like handing out brochures, creating spirit sticks, and more! With the new members in your club, utilize it to promote fundraisers, service projects, and district events such as Fall Rally North! On another note, it’s also important to keep all past and new members informed about what you’re doing! Try utilizing tools such as Remind, social media platforms, or Google Groups to be inclusive when communicating to your club. I hope you all have a great start to school and member recruitment!

Waddling in Service, ANNABELLE LAW

APPRECIATING OUR MENTORS

Monta Vista Monta Vista Key Club celebrated Teachers Appreciation Week, which was from May 5th to May 11th. During their meeting on the 7th, officers and members cut out and decorated cards to show appreciation for all teachers on campus. Members were given the opportunity to personally deliver finished cards to their teachers. Any and all remaining cards were placed in teachers' mailboxes, making sure that all teachers at Monta Vista received cards celebrating their contributions to the school and their students.
