OUR CLUBS Los Altos

We are preparing for the school year and getting ready for club rush! We are trying to have more service events and fundraisers as well.

Monta Vista We helped out at our school’s Running of the Bulls and also began preparing for the new school year, making our club rush materials. At club rush, we were able to get about 140 sign ups from new members.

Homestead We had our freshman club rush and had around 50 freshman sign up for our club. They other day, we participated in our school's club fair . We were able to get over 120 sign ups! We have also began planning for the upcoming year, as well as for RTC.

Lynbrook

Our school club information day takes place on September 18th. In preparation for this, we are creating posters, brochures, and profile picture graphics. We decided to do something new this year! - for online club promotions, we created an Instagram border craft with flowers decorated around it + we are planning to take our profile pictures holding this craft. Through this artistic idea, we hope to captivate new members (especially the freshmen) into joining Key Club. At this moment, participation in division events is low so we hope that after Club Rush, we will be able to increase the number of members attending. Good luck to all the schools - go kill it at Club Rush!

Cupertino

Throughout most of June we recruited freshman, over 40. We also had to secure another advisor as our past advisor is now the asb teacher. Although it took us a while we managed to find a teacher to be our club advisor. No officer disputes or any other issues.

Mountain View Mountain View kicked off the month of August with a children’s education service event: a BioBlitz at Hellyer Park, where members worked with docents to help kids identify the surrounding wildlife. This created a greater awareness and understanding of the world around them. Further into the month, the officers of Mountain View Key Club upheld the tradition of helping out the Old Mountain View Neighborhood Association with their annual Ice Cream Social. With games, face painting, bubbles, raffles, and Baskin Robbins ice cream, they were able to help make the event a smashing success! Throughout August, volunteers have also continued to regularly sign up for shifts at Hope’s Corner, preparing and serving meals for the less fortunate.

Fremont Fremont Key Club started the school year with an executive board meeting. We reminded ourselves of our duties and goals. Then, we discussed club day/rush, future volunteer opportunities, FRN, and the upcoming November DCM in Fremont. As a club, we also started sending out email updates and advertising events. Fortunately, we have found many service events this September and we look forward to helping our community.

Menlo Atherton No update.

Palo Alto

We had multiple officer meetings prior to our club day for us to get ready for club day and our first club meeting. Our club meeting went smoothly, our officers are VERY spirited and got 130+ members to join! We gave people who signed up a Key Club sticker that Isha, one of my VPs, made. Also, our first meeting had a great turnout rate. We gave out free pizza. On 9/21, we have our Stanford Parking Fundraiser and on 9/28 we teamed up with Ohlone Elementary School to help volunteer at their Harvest Festival! Lots of students signed up already for this awesome service event!

Gunn

We promoted our club at the club fair last Wednesday and racked up over 115 sign ups! Our first meeting will be tomorrow, so the officer team is busy preparing.

VISUALS & ARTICLES MOUNTAIN VIEW ART & WINE FESTIVAL

Mountain View MVHS Key Club volunteered at the Mountain View Art and Wine Festival. We teamed up with Kiwanis to help sell souvenir glasses and drink tickets. Everyone there did a great job, especially considering that we were working at the busiest booth!

Mountain View help KIwanis at their booth.

CLUB RUSH SZN As we enter the second month of school, our clubs begin to advertise at their school’s respective Club Fair. Monta Vista was successful at their Club Fair, recruiting over 130 students! All our clubs have been amazing so far as they employ their unique tactics to recruit students to join Key Club!

For the Mountain View Club, officers at the booth were spirited and decked out in spirit gear. One officer even work a penguin onesie!

Los Altos had an enthusiastic booth, with officers both attending to both their service project and information booth. Interested students could make dog toys for animal shelters while learning more about Key Club.

KIWANIS FAMILY HOUSE DONATION DRIVE

Mountain View The Kiwanis Family House provides temporary housing and support to families of seriously ill or injured children and adults being treated at UC Davis Medical Center. This month, MVHS Key Club is teaming up with the Leo Club to donate as many supplies as we can on their wish list! Starting on 9/16/19, boxes will be placed in Room 110 on Monday and Room 609 on Thursday each week at lunch–these are each club’s respective meeting dates. Find as many wish list supplies as you can and drop them off in the boxes to be mailed off to Kiwanis Family House after 10/3/19!

Overview

Pediatric Trauma Program What is it?

The Pediatric Trauma Program, or also known as PTP, works to provide training and prevention for pediatric trauma.

The program was established by the California-Nevada-Hawaii Kiwanis in 1994 to educate the public about pediatric trauma. This is one of Key Club's preferred charities! Unintentional child injury is the leading cause of death for children under the age of 14. Moreover, 90% of these cases are PREVENTABLE.

How to fundraise! 1. Fundraise with local restaurants.

3. Have holiday related fundraisers!Â

2. Sell items or services. At garage sales, bake sales, and car washes.

Spirit prep #2 is

MANDATORY if you are going to FRN!

We'll be: - Making purple penguin spirit gear (buy and make tutus, capes, and flower crowns!)Â - Learning + practicing spirit cheers - Passing out spirit gear!

Letter from DNE Hey Key-uties! Thank you for reading through the October Newsletter! As a senior, it’s scary how quickly time passes. I want to emphasize that you do things as if it’s your last year, regardless of what age or position you are. Recruit, volunteer, plan as if it’s your last year in Key Club. This October, aim for more service projects, fundraisers, and building a community within your club. By creating this atmosphere, you’re sure to find new dedicated members who also share the same passion for service and spirit. On another note, it’s also important to keep your club informed about the division events. We, the Division Leadership Team, are always planning events for your enjoyment and to serve under Key Club. We want YOU to have a great time serving your home and international communities. It’s also a great chance to meet new members with the same passions; whether it’s at a DCM, the Regional Training Conference, or Fall Rally North!

Waddling in Service, ANNABELLE LAW
