MONTHLY ISSUE Look out for Division & Club Updates!

Hello Hello Purple Penguins! It's Thanksgiving Season! I hope everyone is safe and well! Last month, we had a lot of fun with our UNICEF DWS, UNICEF DCM, and Donation Drive service project. In addition, congratulations to everyone who was appointed onto the service project and public relations committees! I am looking forward to see all that you accomplish this term. We are now exactly one month away from the early-bird and on-time dues payment deadline, December 1st. Clubs, please stay proactive about paying dues, which are a necessary component of Key Club. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me so I may assist you! This month, you will have plenty of opportunities to gain service hours, meet other Purple Penguins, and even interact with other branches of Kiwanis! Keep an eye out for information about our November DCM, service projects, Key to College, bonding, and much more! As always, please let me know as soon as possible if you ever have any questions or concerns. Read on in DNE Alayna's newsletter for a spotlight on the service project coordinators, information about the Kiwanis Family House, club updates, and much more. See you at our November events!

Waddling in Service,

CHERYL BAI

Hello Key-ute Penguins! Happy November!! I'm so excited for the upcoming November break and I bet all of ya'll are too :0 I was thinking about it for a while- what should I write about in my DNE letters?! From Cheryl's letter (I hope you've read before this one) she already covers basically all the events that have been going on and what the newsletter is about! So I usually make my own topics to talk about here. But, okay, there is one thing I want to cover. DUES. DUES, DUES, DUES!! Whether you're an officer or a member, please pay dues. This year, the early/on-time deadline is December 1st (pushed back one month). Doesn't mean you should procrastinate, in fact, contact your treasurer/president right now and pay dues :D. Just kidding, kind of. If you can't pay for dues, that's alright. I know Key Club's like Mountain View, my home club, that have Kiwanis that can help pay for them. Dues are $11.50 in total and basically helps keep our clubs active and counts you as an official member. Not only that, but you're eligible for scholarships, leadership positions, district/international awards, and a lot more! Phew, that was a lot. People at Mountain View call me the crazy dues lady for a reason :). Aside from that, I do hope you all are doing well and enjoy reading through this newsletter. Always remember you can contact me whenever, I'm always open to chat and help out both Key Club and non-Key Club related. Have a great day, awoo!

Waddling in Service,

ALAYNA LEE

OUR CLUBS CUPERTINO

This month was packed with a lot of “firsts”. We had our first official officer meeting with our advisor, our first major recruiting session (which was club’s day), and our first member meeting. Around 75 people showed up, so I think that was pretty successful considering everything is online. The members seemed quite engaged and we played a super fun game of Kahoot testing them on their knowledge on Key Club and took a group photo at the end. We also promoted Freerice and bookmark making as our ETOMs. We officially introduced our website using a graphic and made a promo video to introduce our first member meeting.

FREMONT

-----

GUNN

We've kicked off our meetings for the 2020-2021 term! We recruited over 50 new members and we're excited for what's to come this year. Our first service event will be on October 24 with our Palo Alto Kiwanis advisors.

HOMESTEAD

Our club hosted our first virtual general meeting, and we had about 70 prospective and returning members attend. We conducted polls, introduced everyone to what Key Club was, and talked about why we chose to stay in Key Club. We are planning new service projects coming down the road and what we are going to do for our next meeting.

17

LOS ALTOS

-----

LYNBROOK

We held 3 member meetings and are starting a variety of service projects. At each member meeting we talk about the weekly and monthly service events and then we do a fun activity such as a mentimeter or a kahoot. Some of the current service events are Charity for Miles, Home of Hope Book Drive, Quiz to End Hunger, and Cards for CityGrace Hospital. We are also in the midst of collecting member dues and we are conducting a MOD pizza fundraiser on October 21.

MENLO-ATHERTON

MA Key Club has been having great meetings this month with different service projects every week. We've done things like write to isolated seniors and raise awareness about prevention by making infographics.

MONTA VISTA

We have held two member meetings so far and have had one service event. Our service event was called BeanBeanBean and we answered trivia questions to raise money for US food banks!

18

MOUNTAIN VIEW

In September, Mountain View Key Club had several online recruitment methods, doing things like Instagram Q&As and promotional videos. Our first meeting was a success, as members got to learn more about Key Club and play a Kahoot. We’ve done a lot of planning for October and are excited to see what the fall season has in store for us!

PALO ALTO -----

VISUALS & ARTICLES BOOKMARK MAKING AND FREERICE

CUPERTINO

Bookmark making is just for everyone to make bookmarks which will be given to kids. Freerice is the question game where rice is donated to those in need. These are both going on till the end of October.

SEPTEMBER DWS

LYNBROOK

The September Division-Wide Service event was as its name suggests, a service event for the entire division. We used a website called Amara Editor to create subtitles for online videos. I' d never done anything like it before, and it was super fun!
