Tip of the Month Hey Key-uties! We’ve come to an end for not only the year, but also the decade! 2020 holds a special year in my heart. This year I’ll be graduating from high school, passing down my clubs, and spending my last few months with friends before we all head out to pursue a new adventure. Change can be exciting, but it can also be scary. To start off the year right, set attainable personal goals. New Year’s resolutions always seem to break 5 days into the new year. Set goals that will help you achieve bigger goals that you have in mind. Goals should keep you focused on what you want to accomplish in the long run, but also keep you motivated now. Key Club related goals I have are as simple as submitting my visuals and articles to the district on time, attending two service events per month, and bringing more members from my home club to DCMs. I wish you all luck on reaching your New Year’s goals and a wonderful rest of break!

Waddling in Service, ANNABELLE LAW

December DCM Homestead hosted our division’s December DCM and their annual service event Caroling for Cans. After clubs gave their reports and LTG Rebecca gave the division update, we split up into 5 groups to cover the 5 routes that Homestead setup in their neighborhood. The Homestead officer team had set down paper bags along each route with a flyer explaining that Key Clubbers would be coming around on the morning of December 14th to collect canned food to donate to Sunnyvale Community Services.

Caroling for Cans

On the 14th, each group visited houses and rang doorbells to see if anyone had canned food to donate. If they did, groups sang Christmas carols as a token of appreciation and to bring holiday spirit. After all the groups returned to our meetup spot, Homestead sold hot chocolate to raise money for PTP. In total, we were able to collect pounds of canned food to donate to Sunnyvale Community Services! Thank you to everyone who came out to participate and impact our local community.

Thank you Homestead for hosting!

HOLIDAY-A-THON HOLIDAY-A-THON FIRST OF ITS KIND! We hosted our first ever D34 Holiday-A-Thon! As the last division event for both D34S and D34N, members from both divisions participated in 7 hours of service, fun, and learning. Individual clubs fundraised at the event selling various foods, such as s'mores, pizza, cookies, boba, and spam mushubi! Afterwards, there were activities such as writing cards for Kiwanis Foundation, making stress balls, decorating cookies, and making friendship bracelets. To end the evening, we had a karaoke and dance party.

KEY CLUB SPIRIT Attendees participated in 4 workshops that reflected relevant holiday themes (Member Retention, Gift Giving 101, Time & Stress Management, and Making Resolutions).

BE AS WELCOMING AS POSSIBLE! Overall, Holiday-a-thon was a great experience for interacting with our sister division 34 North and getting into the Key Club spirit. Thank you to Rebecca, Emmanuel, and all the advisers for making this happen!

OUR CLUBS Cupertino In November we held a thanksgiving festival that of which was successful as we had a good turnout and a variety of food and games. We also have continued to see a relatively high number of members attend each of the meetings. There was approximately 4 events in the past month.

Fremont

Fremont Key Club hosted the November DCM! Many people came and we successfully made 30 blankets and donated it to the Saratoga Pediatric Sub-Acute. We also collaborated with other clubs and hosted a Canned Food Drive. We have also resumed our FCC, Fremont Campus Clean-up, where we picked up trash through out the campus. Our executive board has also made changes to our club's membership requirements and we have informed our members about it.

Gunn ---------

Monta Vista Monta Vista Key has been helping out at local events, like an ice cream social and book fair at Lincoln Elementary School, as well as holiday events like our city's Heroes Run and the Turkey Trot. We also held a giving thanks activity during our club meeting, where each member shared something they were thankful for to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Los Altos -------------------

Lynbrook Lynbrook Key Club has doubled their official membership (dues paid) from last year and has turned all the payments (early bird). In terms of funds, the treasurer had organized a Chipotle fundraiser. Through promotional graphics and incentives for members to participate in the fundraiser, we have earned $106. We hope to utilize these funds to host service projects within the school club. Our most recent event, the Turkey Trot, was a huge success, with over 30 members from Lynbrook Key Club attend. The feedback we received from the members was amazing. It was heartwarming to watch them have fun at the event.

Menlo Atherton

-In November we participated in serving and making food at St. Anthony’s Church. We also did the canned food drive.

Homestead

We finished our UNICEF trick or treating fundraiser, in which we raised over 200 dollars! We have begun planning for other events, such as the December DCM, which will be a fun time. We also had a successful service night at our school, where Homestead Key Clubbers made more than 130 art kits for the children in the Oakland Children's Hospital.

Palo Alto ----------------

Mountain View Mountain View Key Club just concluded two successful projects, including one in-meeting service project and one monthlong fundraiser. Vice President Leanna Chun organized two dog toy making sessions, helping the club produce 78 toys for shelter dogs. Treasurer Alayna Lee set a $50 goal for a PTP coin drive, which the club ended up surpassing by over 250% higher. As for outside service events, members volunteered to help with cleaning up a park, visiting hospitalized veterans with the Kiwanis and other D34S Key Clubbers, holiday shopping for low-income families, collecting donations for a Safeway food drive with their sponsoring Kiwanis Club, organizing food bins for the less fortunate, and assisting racers at their school Turkey Trot, receiving $1000 compensation from the race organizers for PTP.

Presidents: please submit your monthly summaries!

VISUALS & ARTICLES TURKEY TROT

Lynbrook Lynbrook Key Club came together for one of our most popular annual events. 30+ members volunteered at the Silicon Valley Turkey trot. Volunteers had the opportunity to run the Kid's Fun Run, refreshments at the end of the race, the Santa Run, the photo booth, and much more.

FAMILY GIVING TREE HOLIDAY GIFT DRIVE

Lynbrook Lynbrook Interact, Key Club, Octagon, Red Cross, and DECA teamed up to make the Family Giving Tree Holiday Gift Drive. Family Giving Tree is a nonprofit organization that seeks to bring low-income children and seniors their holiday wishes. Members have the opportunity to receive a card and buy a children a specific holiday gift.

LINCOLN ICE CREAM SOCIAL

Monta Vista Monta Vista Key Club members and officers were able to volunteer at our local elementary school for their annual ice cream social. It was a fun way to help out with ice cream and kids at our local elementary school. It was a blast!

ART KITS FOR NIGHT OF SERVICE

Homestead During the Homestead Night of Service, HHS Key Club members made art kits for children residing in the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland (one of the PHP hospitals) The art kits included stickers, pencils, erasers, crayons, and a personalized handwritten note! Volunteers were highly welcomed to come, and we had a great turnout. People from other clubs also came to our station. The members created an assembly line, and people were working eagerly to fill up the kits. After about 30 minutes, we made over 125 art kits!
