Now, I know what might be running through your mind. The giddiness of the engagement party is starting to wear off, and thoughts of actually planning your wedding—dress shopping, cake tasting, choosing a photographer, etc.—are beginning to bombard you left and right. But keep in mind two very important decisions that will either help or hinder your wedding planning process. First things first—decide on a budget. Nearly every other to-do is affected by your set amount of funds! Being wise about what to spend and knowing your limitations from the get-go is extremely important in order to avoid post-wedding stress. Once creating a financial plan, figure out whether or not this leaves room for a wedding planner. They are familiar with the wedding professionals in the market and have worked at many of the reception facilities. A wedding planner’s know-how can help keep you within your budget and keep you calm on your big day! With all the time and money involved with your wedding, a professional wedding planner can guide you through the decisions and details with grace and ease. At the very least, consider hiring a day-of planner to help coordinate the many details of the wedding day.

Amanda Godsey & Jo Smith, Jr. 06.30.12 The Proposal: It was the middle of December. Jo called a million times that day persisting on me coming to his Mom’s straight from work. He kept saying to come straight there and not to go home to let Hadley, my dog, outside. As soon as I pulled up to the house, my heart was beating out of my chest. I began to panic. I nervously went to the restroom so I could take a moment to calm down and all I could think was this it this it - it’s my day! So I walked out and Jo stood up to hug me and kept trying to turn my head toward the Christmas tree. That never happened, so Jo reached for the most gorgeous ring I have ever seen in my life from a tree limb and started to kneel. I started crying. Jo started muttering something about loving me and asked the question. We held each other for a moment and took it all in. It was just how I had dreamed it would happen. Wedding Details: I wanted my day to be completely romantic and totally about us. Our love is simple and sweet. I wanted to do some DIY, but I didn’t want a backyard wedding. I like to design things according to the structure. At our chapel, I chose to make fabric wreaths because I don’t like small flower arrangements on the pews. At our reception, I chose candelabras that were covered in moss and a few flowers throughout. I knew I wanted a butterfly/bird theme. I bought an array of small butterfly and bumble bee figurines to be placed on all of the arrangements. It was totally unique and made the arrangements come to life. Julie and the team at Garden on the Square did a wonderful job. The butterfly/bird theme came from a cake I chose as a model for ours. I was inspired by bird cages a lot during the planning and saw a picture of a wedding cake inside of one. I just didn’t like the idea of “caged birds.” Finally, I found a picture of a small cake online that was a pale pink bird cage with a blue bird and butterfly on top. That was it! After meeting with Ashlee at TIER Luxury Cakes, I knew she could make our dream cake. Ashlee sent us a sketch of our cake, and that is where all of my inspiration and planning began! I knew I wanted my girls to wear pale pink and the boys in navy suits. I love blue seersucker, so we chose that for the boys ties. We ordered them from the Tie Bar online. I had a large blue seersucker bow to go around my bouquet. We also bought packs of hankies in shades of blue for the groomsmen’s gifts and had them monogrammed in Kingston by the Striped Giraffe. Our invitations were printed on hankies. I bought my mother one for the big day on our first trip to plan the wedding in Savannah. We surprised Jo’s mother and sister with one the day before the wedding also. Many tears were going to be shed. We wanted to be prepared!

A Perfect Day! 865.622.2093 www.aperfectday4u.com

Advice from A Perfect Day!:

If you want to implement a theme in your wedding, but still want to keep it elegant, weave in subtle touches throughout the evening.

Ruthann Bindon & Mark Fleenor Ruthann Bindon and Mark Fleenor met in Alaska, where she worked at the aviation center at which Mark was being trained as a missionary bush pilot. When they decided to get married near Mark’s hometown of Knoxville, they knew they wanted to incorporate an aviation theme into their elegant celebration. Since bush planes aren’t known for elegance, the challenge was on. An August wedding in Knoxville means lots of cold beverages must be available, so they started by labeling four punch bowls with airplane related names. The couple’s personal favorite was Just Plane Tea, which Mark came up with. As guests arrived at their tables, they found elegantly decorated airplane shaped cookies, tied with a magenta ribbon, and a favor tag which thanked guests for attending their wedding. Upon entering the reception, Mark and Ruthann delighted guests by dancing a simply choreographed routine to “Come Fly with Me.” (Guests are easily bored by prom style dancing, and all it takes is a few turns to get the crowd going.) The wedding cake was traditional and elegant, but the groom’s cake, which featured a bush plane suspended over a fondant replica of an Alaskan mountainside, drew just as much attention. Ruthann’s online resourcefulness turned up a supply of foam airplanes for guests to toss during the couple’s send off. They were printed with the message “Fly with the Lord,” which was a perfect touch for sending them off on a life journey dedicated to mission work. By the end of the evening, Ruthann and Mark had not only involved their wedding guests by sharing their love story, but also celebrated the beginning of their life together by incorporating a theme they’re both passionate about.

Rebecca Lane & Vincent Swingle May 5, 2012 PHOTOGRAPHY BY Waldorf Photographic Art

Rebecca Lane & Vincent Swingle 05.05.12 Love Story: Vince and I met at work. We worked together for two years before we bonded over our love of Tennessee Football. We dated for a little over four years before he popped the question at a UT/UGA tailgate. It was perfect since we were surrounded by our friends and family to help us celebrate. My brother congratulated Vince with a handshake and a shotgun shell, just to remind him not to mess things up. To be honest, I am not even sure I said “Yes” when he asked me, but I do remember saying to him, “It’s about time!” Wedding Details: We were engaged for eight months before we got married. I was worried about the planning process and how long it would take, but Darla Walker made it simple and easy. We met with all the vendors in one day, back to back, one after the other; it was amazing! From that one day, Darla and my mom knew exactly what Vince and I wanted. That was important to us. We wanted it to be our personality, not just mine. I cannot believe how fun and simple the process was made by my mom, mother-in-law and Darla. Darla said, “Baby girl, all I want you to do is show up the day of the wedding, relax, enjoy and celebrate.” And that’s exactly what we did. Our theme was Simply Southern. We used Navy and yellow as our colors. From the moment we stepped onto the grounds of Castleton Farms and met Darla, we felt right at home. Vince wanted to get married outside, and I wanted to get married in a church. Darla helped us compromise by getting church pews and cathedral windows that could be placed outside. There were some things that were important and a special part of the wedding day. As a child, my grandfather let me play with his typewriter when we would visit him in South Carolina. To honor him and his memory we used the typewriter theme throughout the wedding. Our invitations were written in typewriter font and our guests typed messages to Vince and me on PaPa’s typewriter. Wedding Day: Everything made us laugh. That was the goal for us. We just wanted to have fun and celebrate. Some of the most memorable moments were the look on Vince’s face as he tried not to cry as Dad and I walked down the aisle, dancing with my dad, an ink tag left on the groomsmen jacket, how quickly Darla Walker grabbed scissors to cut the ink tag off, Vince’s 90-year-old grandmother cutting a rug on the dance floor and being surrounded by our family and friends.

Woes of the Web

a bride 's tell-all

Oh, the thrill of online shopping. People’s thriftiness or tight budgets allow them to get lured in by the ultra-slashed prices on popular websites. But when it comes to shopping for a wedding gown online, Christina Tompkins learned the risks the hard way when her wedding dress dreams turned into nightmares. The Right One: My fiancé and I were engaged in September 2011, and we set a date for September 2 of the following year. I thought this would give me plenty of time to make wedding plans. I soon began to search for a wedding dress. After looking through a few magazines, I fell in love with an Allure Couture dress that Wedding Wonderland actually carried. A little later, I was shopping online and I came across some other dresses that I’d seen in magazines at a fraction of the original cost. This made me curious to see if my dream dress was also available online at a discounted price.

The Wrong Dress

The Wrong One: Eventually, I found an online vendor who offered my dress—same exact picture from magazines, totally different price. At $235, my fiancé insisted that we take the chance and order it. So I submitted my order, but after a few weeks and no dress, I started to worry. I quickly assured myself and considered it a normal timeframe for a dress coming all the way from China. Soon after, I came home to find a very small, thin package on my doorstep. Inside, I found a dress nothing like the one I had fallen in love with weeks earlier. It was obvious that the dress was cheaply made. I immediately went to Wedding Wonderland and compared my online dress to my dream dress. The elaborate, beaded bodice I admired on the original dress was replaced by one with gaudy, silver sequins. The original bottom was an intricate embroidery of hand-made flowers, while my online dress had white flowers actually safety-pinned onto the train! I was so shocked and heartbroken, but luckily I gave myself enough time for mishaps. I was going to try and make it a DIY project; in fact, I tried to sew on sequins myself! In the end, I contacted the company in China and asked for my money back which was eventually, and luckily, refunded to me. I recently found another dress by Maggie Sottero that I purchased—in the store this time!—without having to deal with hefty price tags or risky transactions! Her Advice: If it’s too good to be true, it probably is. Beware of bidding websites that present your dream dress with the same photos but have a distinctly different price. You get what you pay for—cheap price, cheap dress. Something as important as your wedding gown should be purchased in-store; you are able to have a concrete visual of what you are spending your money on. Go with the dress you give your heart to (even if your more frugal fiancé tries to convince you otherwise!). Do not spoil it by trying to find a better deal because, more than likely, you won’t find one worthy of your purchase. Be wary of dresses made in a foreign country like China. Being so far away from the manufacturer is never a good thing, and you probably won’t get the detail you were hoping for. Not all online wedding purchases are off-limits, though. I actually purchased my wedding shoes and several bridal party favors online with no hassle. For a bride whose dress is low on her wedding totem pole, she might not have to take as many precautions. However, all brides should do their homework before making such a costly purchase.

Brittany Brent & Matthew Smith April 14, 2012 PHOTOGRAPHY BY 5ringsphoto

Brittany Brent & Matthew Smith 04.14.12 Love Story: Matt and I met during our junior year of college at the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. We were introduced by a mutual friend. We were surprised to find out that we were both from Tennessee. Matt grew up in Nashville, and I grew up in Maryville. Even more surprising, Matt’s brother played baseball at Maryville College in my hometown, and we discovered that we knew many of the same people. We began dating in September of our senior year and by graduation, even though we had been together for less than a year, knew that we wanted to move forward with our relationship. Matt had already committed to attending school in Memphis, Tennessee for a doctorate in physical therapy. I was deciding where I wanted to attend law school. Rather than attempt a long-distance relationship so early on, Matt and I both moved to Memphis so he could start school. It was the best decision we have ever made. A year later, I moved to Knoxville to attend law school at the University of Tennessee – and so began a long two years apart. We traveled back and forth almost every weekend, often meeting in Nashville and spending the weekend with his parents or his brother. When Matt graduated, he moved to Knoxville while I finished my last year of law school. We were engaged the following December after four years of dating and set the date for an April wedding in Charleston. Wedding Planning: Matt and I knew immediately – well, before we were even engaged – that we would get married in Charleston. Planning a wedding six hours away – we now live in Knoxville – is a challenge. But, with the help of an incredible wedding planner and many, many weekend trips to Charleston, we planned our dream wedding with little trouble. I had the venue in mind immediately. Although we entertained a few other options, we knew that the William Aiken House would be the perfect spot. Our color scheme focused on shades of ivory, cream, and white, slate gray, and a pale blush pink. Everything from the flowers to the linens to the bridesmaids dresses centered on that theme. I would describe my vision for our wedding as romantic with a vintage feel – and I think we achieved it perfectly! Wedding Day: Our wedding day was absolutely perfect. The weather was beautiful – something I worried about endlessly in the weeks and days leading up to April 14th. The ceremony took place on the outside lawn at 6:30 in the evening, and the reception followed both inside and outside of the beautiful historic home located right on King Street in downtown Charleston. Seeing all of my ideas come together exactly as I had pictured was very exciting. Our entire wedding was intimate with only our closest friends and family attending, and it could not have been more perfect.

Heather Wolfe &Lucas Smith April 15.2012

PHOTOGRAPHY BY Jennie Andrews Photography

Heather Wolfe & Lucas Smith 04.15.12 Love Story: Lucas and I met three years ago just two days shy of our wedding day. We met while I was working at the Cafe4 in Knoxville, TN. I was a hostess for the Cafe and Lucas was filming a commercial for the Cafe. Lucas had no idea where anything was located in the restaurant, so I was the lucky girl that got to show him around. He just happened to come at the perfect time when the Cafe was in between lunch and dinner, so I had some down time to talk to the new artsy cute guy. We had a 15 minute conversation that turned into getting coffee a few days later. We then started to hang out all the time and realized how much we had in common. It wasn’t long before we made it official and started our story together. Wedding Day: Handmade, Antique, Vintage, Artistic, Unique these are words I would describe our wedding by. Our colors where antique pink, champagne, neutrals, and an accent of navy blue. Lucas and I both have worked in the wedding industry with him being a videographer and me with the wedding cakes. We both are tired of the same ole, same ole and wanted to have a unique, personal touch to our wedding. One thing we did that was different was the unity tree. Rather then doing a unity candle or the unity sand we planted a tree together. Lucas’ dad made a planter for our tree to be planted in. Both of our parents started the planting by putting in starter dirt and then Lucas and I put the tree in the planter and filled the rest of the planter with dirt. My sisters had super cute watering cans and watered the tree. And while all of the tree planting was going on Lucas’ three sisters where singing one of our favorite songs, “Beautiful Things” by Gungor. It was one of my favorite parts of the ceremony! I don’t think there was a dry eye in the party! One of my favorite moments of the wedding day was getting to drive away in our get-away car. My uncle let us borrow his convertible Porsche. Lucas and I only borrowed the car long enough to do a “fake get-away” and then returned it. But during our 20-minute drive we blasted the music and drove down town singing to songs on the radio. Well… Let me just say that our photographer, Jennie Andrews, was incredible. I haven’t picked out a favorite photo just yet, but I would say the whole process of taking the photos was one of my favorite parts of the day; it was so much fun and enjoyable. I could not have picked a better photographer! She made the process so much fun! Honestly, she made me feel like the most beautiful bride and photogenic person she had ever met. She was complementary and encouraging. Sometimes people can look so stressed out in wedding pictures, but I was having such a blast that the emotions were true and genuine. A lot of that has to do with how great it was to work with Jennie!

Behind the Story

The Love Story: On Saturday, October 16th, 2010, Samir and I ran a half marathon together and finished it together. This was a big deal for me, and it meant a lot for Samir who almost cried when we crossed the finish line. In the evening, Samir invited me to go out to eat to celebrate that I finished my race. Samir took me to a nice restaurant that we both love, P.F. Chang’s. When we were seated the waiter asked us for something to drink while we decided what to eat. At that moment Samir looked me in the eyes and told me he loved and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. He opened a small box and asked me to marry him. I started crying while admiring the beautiful ring and hearing those words from the man I love and said YES. The Details: Pretty much my whole decor was made by my mom, grandmothers, and myself. My colors were jade and ivory, and everything revolved around those colors. My grandmothers made and decorated my wedding cake. We really saved money in all the decorations we did ourselves and the cake that was made by my grandmothers. The floral department of Food City saved me big time with all the bouquets, boutonnieres, and floral arrangements. I really recommend Gabby Dalton Photography; she is awesome, and it is worth every penny! Also, the Lodge at Valley View was the best place to do my wedding reception. It was really close to the church, and the space was perfect with a beautiful view. Giovanni’s Italian Restaurant provided great food and service for a really good price. Marriage Advice: My advice to the future bride and groom is to plan ahead of time, and take one day at a time. If you are on a tight budget, try to do things yourself. And enjoy your day because it flies by so quickly when you are having a good time. Life changes after marriage but for the best, and with love, patience, and good communication everything works out in the end.

Rachel Murff & Tyler Brothers PHOTOGRAPHY BY Katherine Birkbeck Photography

Rachel Murff & Tyler Brothers 04.07.12 Love Story: We actually met on eHarmony.com, which I was opposed to for the longest time. However, after many years of not meeting the right man, I joined, and it was more than worth it. :) Tyler is the most amazing person I have ever met. He loves me and treats me better than I ever thought possible or expected to find in a husband. We are both committed Christians, like being physically active and eating healthy, enjoy a lot of the same things, have the same worldview, love to travel, and love all sorts of things together! :) Tyler popped the question at a pretty little park on the water in Norfolk, VA last fall (we both live in the area) after taking me out to dinner at the Greek restaurant where we had our first date. He said a lot of wonderful things about why and how much he loved me, but I honestly don’t remember any of it, I was so nervous and excited. Wedding Day: My girlfriends made me laugh a lot, and the love I felt from everyone almost made me cry (It’s a good thing I didn’t since I wasn’t using waterproof mascara)! It’s hard to pick a most memorable moment, but a couple of the top ones would be when Tyler and I saw each other for the first time and everything about the ceremony itself - everything was wonderful. Nothing too unexpected happened, actually. I had prayed God would give us good weather (outdoor wedding), and He did! It was in the low- to mid-70’s that day with not a cloud in the sky. Wedding Details: Six month engagement (just barely long enough to plan a wedding)! No wedding planner - Tyler and I live in Virginia Beach, so it was a little tricky planning a wedding in Knoxville, but my mom was amazing and did a lot of legwork; I was in town a few times before the wedding, and we did a lot then. Does Google count as a planning tool? By the time we got engaged, there was no time to just poke around in bridal magazines; we needed to get stuff done quickly! The most important thing about the wedding - other than having a great day with friends and family and getting to marry my best friend - is the dress (I love my dress!) and the cake (I loved our cake)! I was focused on the colors - black, yellow and white. I am not in the least bit crafty, so the closest to DIY was my belt (a very nice lady who used to be a full time seamstress made it) and my jewelry (Lilly’s Bead Box). We wanted things to be meaningful but not too formal, and I think we (and by we I mean everyone involved) pulled it off! Wedding Advice: In my opinion give yourself at least 6 months if you can to plan it. Remember that all the work is worth it, and you can relax and take it easy on the honeymoon. Remember what is most important - your marriage, not one day of festivities. Use this time to learn more about yourself and each other, and get premarital counseling; at least read some good books on the topic.

Having your wedding - Article by Allison of Live Laugh Love weddings Pinterest and Pantone may express the newest, latest trends and colors for weddings, but the best inspiration for your wedding is your own personality. Your wedding should be a display of you and what is important to you. Are you someone who prefers a J.Crew cardigan with a Tiffany strand of pearls? Are you someone who prefers a favorite pair of jeans and flip-flops? Are you someone who prefers black chandeliers and red patent leather heels? You can use your fashion personality within your wedding. For a more clean, sophisticated look, pintuck linens, calla lilles, garden roses, and chivari chairs could be used to accent your reception. Look at color schemes of navy & green, grey & yellow, and champagne & eggplant. For those who are more relaxed and want their wedding to feel like home, look toward natural wooden garden chairs, eyelet lace linens, hydrangeas, and sweet peas. A buffet of comfort foods and jars of honey favors will make guests feel comfortable as they kick up their heels to the bluegrass band. For those rebels who prefer not following any rules, consider colors in a more artistic way. Your color scheme could be fuschia, purple, black and white; turquoise, coral, and yellow; or ruby reds, plums, and platinum. You may incorporate patterns like fishnet lace, herringbone, and damask to add another dimension to the overall scheme. You may have sparkling crystal chandeliers, black and white anemones, black magic roses, and clear ghost chairs placed in your dessert and wine reception. If you are confused about how to incorporate yourself into your wedding, find 3 favorite items to describe you- a favorite band album, your favorite vacation place, your favorite shoes, even your favorite dinner or dessert. You want your guests to be part of your wedding celebration. Remember they are your guests; make them feel as welcome at your wedding as you would in your home. The more your wedding reflects you the more your guests feel a part of your new, married life.

Amber Morrell & Greg King May 19, 2012 PHOTOGRAPHY BY Bryan Allen Photography

Amber Morrell & Greg King 05.19.12 Love story: On November 19, 2011 Greg proposed in front of everyone at the fountain in front of the Biltmore House. He even had someone taking pictures so we got all of it on camera! I knew there was something different about Greg when I started working for him, but we were always professional. I now know God placed me in that job for such a short amount of time so that Greg and I could meet and get to know each other. We were married May 19, 2012, just six months later. We were not sure where we were going to end up until a month before the big day. After praying through our options we decided to be home in Tennessee near our family, and I am now Head Cheer Coach at King College. We are both working for our Alma Mater again together, just in different departments, both doing exactly what we were called to do, and we love it! Wedding Details: We were engaged six months and planned our wedding in different states! A church friend was our wedding planner, and she kept us on track with what we needed to get done. The most important thing about our wedding was that it was Christ centered. Yes, we had a beautiful setup on breath-taking property, but we did not want to put on a show. We wanted to honor our Lord and let this be a celebration about faith and salvation. My theme was an outside wedding that was elegant. We were married on my Aunt’s farm which is a private property with lots of land and rolling hills in the background. We had lanterns and white pom poms hanging from the trees. White sheers draped the arbor we were married under. My grandfather built a white bridge that went over the pool, and we made all of the centerpieces and chandeliers. We also used a white Victorian sofa that was in some of our photos. In the Fall we cut down tree limbs big and small, painted them white, and added flowers, hanging beads, and jewels. It was so pretty, and it wasn’t something that could be store-bought. One thing that caught everyone’s eye was our massive chandelier hanging in the tent. We used the big tree limbs we sawed down and painted them white, hung them upside down, and strung white lights all through it. It was so beautiful and made the place sparkle. It was unique and something I had never seen before. Our main color was the blue from a blue hydrangeas, which were also our flowers. My grandfather’s bridge was also unlike anything I have ever seen, and it was perfect. On my special day I got to walk on water, and the water was the perfect shade of blue. Wedding Photography: Bryan’s signature look is fresh and modern. His stunning imagery has a unique contemporary edge with influences from his award-winning commercial, celebrity, and fashion work. Bryan’s upbeat, positive, and lighthearted personality was a delightful addition to our wedding. Bryan’s mantra is . . . “Remarkable Images . . . Ridiculous Fun” . . . and he means it!

Wedding DressforStyles each body type Your wedding day is about celebrating the beginning of an exciting new chapter in your life, so be sure to wear the dress of your dreams for the occasion! Discover the best style suggestions for your body type here, featuring advice from Lisa, Store Manager at Wedding Wonderland in Knoxville, TN. by Pink Lady Andrea

Body Type

Gown Suggestion

Straight-Figured

Try a mermaid or trumpet silhouette. Both help you seem curvier and make your bust and hips look more proportioned. If you really enjoy the idea of a ball gown, try that too! It will capitalize on your small waist and create a more pronounced hip.

Plus-Sized

Find a dress with an open neckline – ideally a strapless sweetheart. Do not opt for sleeves or a cover over your arms. Look for a dress with ruching that comes to a point, as this separates the bust and the hip perfectly.

Small Bust

Look for a gown with a sweetheart neckline and ruching at the top. This creates volume where you need it most.

Busty

Play down your bust by avoiding straight necklines. Rather, choose a sweetheart neckline or a scooped neckline. Opt for a modified A-line dress with beads and detailing further down the dress to avoid drawing more attention up top.

Tall

Seek a design with minimal frills that accents your long lines. An Empire dress can do just that. The dress will pull in right at or just below your natural waist.

Short

The fit and flair cut with a sweetheart neckline will be flattering on you. Keep in mind while shopping that a higher waist creates the illusion of a longer torso. Embellishments are great for this body type, but they should be small and clustered mainly at the top of the dress.

Pear Shape

A gown with thick straps or a one-shoulder look will help pull the eye away from your hips. A flowing gown with a natural waist will also help conceal this area.

Apple Shape

Seek out dresses with lots of ruching all over to create shape. A V-neck is slimming and draws the eye up, rather than across, too.

No matter what dress style you choose in the end, all that matters is how you feel in it. Keep an open mind to conflicting opinions, but do not let yourself lose focus in the midst of them. Your opinion matters most! Follow your professional’s suggestions as you try on different styles, and ultimately choose the dress you feel the most beautiful and confident in as you look in the mirror. Regardless of your body type, if you are happy and confident on your wedding day, you will be gorgeous!

Ashley Oliver & Matthew Winn 10.01.11

Ashley Oliver & Matthew Winn

Wedding Day: Since both of us were getting ready at the same building across the hall from each other, it was difficult to make sure we didn’t see each other. About 30 minutes before the ceremony, I asked for my father to come to the dressing room so I could give him a gift. He took one look at me and started crying, so then of course I started crying and messed up my makeup. I was so nervous while walking down the aisle, but as soon as Matt took my hand, the nerves went away. When I gave my bouquet to my maid of honor, I accidently gave her my hankerchief. I had another stuffed in the top of my dress, because it was my something blue. I started crying during “The Lord’s Prayer” and needed it, so I had to get it out. Although our heads were bowed, Matt saw this and began to chuckle. After the ceremony, we were going on a horse-drawn carriage ride and did our send off with ribbons. As I got in the carriage, Matt took his tux jacket off and put it over my shoulders because I was a little cold outside. Because of the distance to the venue from our home town, people began to leave the reception early. We still had our photographer for another hour and half, so we took advantage of her still being there, and we were able to get a lot more pictures of just us. We even got a couple taken in our honeymoon suite. Wedding Details: We were engaged for 11 months. Everyone in our families helped, but my mother helped the most. Luckily our planner was included with our venue, which helped a lot too. She knew the venue inside and out and was able to give us great ideas! The most important thing for me about the wedding was our photographer. They were some of the best pictures I had ever seen! She and her assistant really helped capture my day so I can remember every detail! I didn’t mind spending extra on pictures, because that is something we will have for the rest of our lives! I just wanted an elegant and classy look, no theme. Because it was Fall, I chose a dark eggplant and dusty lavender as my colors with hints of bright green. My wedding planner and florist did an amazing job giving me ideas, and I even gave them some ideas that they loved, such as the centerpiece with a submerged stargazer lily. My mother and I did a lot of DIY projects. We bought blank invitations and had them printed, but we still had to put them together. We had two different favors which we made. The first was a ribbon wand, with personalized ribbon, that we used for the send off. In the reception, each guest had a plastic swan with candy called “champagne bubbles”. These had to be assembled with purple tulle and ribbons. We also made the flower girl’s dress. I hadn’t found anything for her to wear that I liked, so my mother and I put 3 different patterns together to get exactly the dress I wanted her to wear.

Pamela Krumpols & Jared Dickenson Ceremony & Reception Location Castleton Farms Carriage House

Pamela Krumpols & Jared Dickenson 05.13.12 Love Story: Blake and I have know each other for such a long time. I have always joked with Blake that we would make a cute movie. Our journey started all the way back in elementry school when we were in third and fourth grade together. Little did we know that 17 years later we would be getting married. We had numerous memories of each other and mutual friends yet never had anything romantic until our first kiss on our high school graduation night. It was only four years later while Blake was in the Army and stationed in Germany that we reunited and started to date. It was Christmas of ‘09 that we finally got that second kiss. Blake and I are so strong after going through the circumstance that we have gone through. On Blake’s leave after his year in Afghanistan on June 30 he pulled out a ring and asked me to be his wife. Blake and I are so blessed to have each other and thank God for our crazy story and the knowlege that we are exactly where we are supposed to be. Wedding Details: After getting engaged and discussing dates with Blake and our parents we chose May. I had done lots of research on venues and know that was the key part for me. I viewed many properties, but it only took one trip to Castleton with my mom to know that none compared. All it took was that choice, and everything else was cake. Darla Walker and her staff helped me every step of the way from driving directions to vendors. Darla made the planning process a truly enjoyable and fun experience. I wanted our wedding to have a rustic elegance about it. I chose to use the colors blue and green and to have wood, black rod iron, burlap, and moss as the dominate materials. I cut back on decorating cost a lot by shopping in antique shops and by collecting and reusing items. It took a lot of random shopping days, but my vision came to life more than I ever could have imagined. I loved the rustic yet elegant qualities of the Carriage House at Castleton Farms, and it only took one pic from their website, and I knew it was the place for us! It fit my vision perfectly which helped it all fall into place. Wedding Day: It was pouring down rain on my wedding day. Of course, all the awful things go through your head of what won’t work and what will go wrong. But I absolutely had nothing to worry about. My wedding wasn’t just everything I had hoped and dreamed of; it was beyond my imagination. Darla Walker and the Castleton Farms Team executed everything beyond perfection! What could have made everything worse only made everything better.

Tuxedo ( Suit Styles for Each Body Type

by Pink Lady Andrea Make sure your man looks just as stunning as you do on your wedding day! Read on for style tips for each body type from Ben Dobson, Operations Director at Savvi Formalwear in Knoxville, TN.

Body Type

Average

Bulky

Average

Short

You can wear just about any style, but be aware of the lengths of jacket sleeves and pant legs. The shoulder pads in your jacket will add bulk without looking too boxy.

Ask your tuxedo specialist about the “fitted look,” which will highlight your trim physique, while the shoulder pads in the jacket will add just enough bulk to your look.

Avoid styles that seem to “hang” on your frame, and look for jackets with two or three buttons that begin lower, rather than higher. Your tuxedo specialist will tailor it to your physique so that you look your best.

Again, you can wear any style! Always watch the length on your jacket sleeves and pant legs.

Any style in any color will work for this physique. The most popular currently is the two-button notch lapel tuxedo in black.

Two low-sitting buttons on a jacket and a vest will elongate your frame.

If you are largest around your midsection, move away from cummerbunds, which draw attention to this area. Consider the more popular option instead – a vest! Go for a onebutton jacket, and streamline your look by avoiding thick, layered materials. Choose a long tie rather than bow tie as well.

Again, if you are largest around the middle, avoid the cummerbund. A vest will draw the eye up, rather than to any bulk you may have in the midsection. A one-button jacket works for this body type. Long ties work best for this frame, rather than bow ties.

Do not go for thick fabrics that add to your size. Look for a jacket with one button that sits low. Opt out of the cummerbund and choose a vest instead. This makes you seem taller and slimmer. Opt for a long tie, rather than bow tie.

Reader Q&A:

Local grooms ask formalwear questions, and Ben has the answers!

Q : “Some jackets have so many buttons. Do I have to button them all?” Evan - Knoxville, TN A : Buttoning only the top button of your jacket is considered appropriate. Q : “What button count works best?” Alex - Oak Ridge, TN A : Generally, jackets with one button work best with bulkier physiques, two buttons look good on average body types, and two or more buttons work for taller people.

Q : “Does it matter who does the alterations on my tuxedo or suit?” Carl - Farragut, TN A : Absolutely. Similar to having a wedding dress altered, not having a professional alter a tuxedo or suit can literally butcher the final product. Choose a reputable shop for your wedding day needs!

Q : “How do I know the difference between a tuxedo and a suit?” Julius - Knoxville, TN A : A tuxedo will have the presence of satin on the lapels, buttons, pockets, and in a stripe down the pant leg.

A suit does not have satin components and normally has plastic buttons.

*Remember to note this style of reception on your wedding invitation so guests can plan accordingly.

What tips do you have for a dessert reception? Rex: “Be sure to cut the wedding cake at the beginning of the reception so that guests get a piece prior to moving on to other desserts.” Neal: “All Occasion Catering’s chocolate fountains are used frequently with this style. Brides love to offer rice crispy treats, pretzels, marshmallows, and fruit to guests for dipping. Cupcakes are also a popular item at dessert receptions.” Phillip: “Be aware of health-conscious guests who may attend.” A sugar-free dessert and fruit are great options to have on your buffet!

Trends: “Receptions are becoming more formal with Southern elegance. We find that many brides are opting for heavy hors d’oeuvres, signature cocktails, lively music, fewer plated dinners, and cocktail buffets where guests can graze!” – Rex Bradford Jones, Abner’s Attic

Should you have cake in the morning hours? Rex: “A layered cake with fruit for a lighter texture is nice early in the day.” Neal: “Make sure you offer a good variety of foods, including sugar-free dessert options.” Phillip: “Rosa’s specializes in light cakes good for any time of day! Ask about our edible works of art.”

Choosing your caterer: “Before you choose your caterer, check out their commercial facility, health department rating, and insurance and worker’s compensation status. Make sure kitchens are clean when you walk through, be comfortable with whomever you choose, see to it that they respond in a timely manner when you have a question, and always have a contract!” – Neal Green, All Occasion Catering

Do you have any tips for planning a dinner reception? Rex: “If your dinner will begin rather late, choose lighter entrées for guests to eat.” Neal: “All Occasion Catering does a lot of dinner receptions with interactive chef stations so guests can customize portions of their meal.” Phillip: “Securing a formal number of guests ahead of time will help you determine (and stay within!) your budget. Also, having a variety of foods that make your buffet line colorful gives an enthusiastic presentation.”

How to decide on your food selection: “Your venue will help you dictate the type of reception menu you will have, like barbeque versus filet mignon, etc. Always know your budget and priorities when planning your reception meal. Be realistic and flexible to alternatives that may be more affordable or will help you achieve a more balanced menu. Once you explain what you want, trust the professionals you’ve hired to make it happen!” – Phillip Nussbaumer, Rosa’s Catering Service, Inc.

What should you consider for a cocktail reception? Rex: “Rent cocktail tables where guests can mingle and eat. Have breads available throughout the reception. Consider having a signature cocktail or punch, offer beer or wine, and be sure to have sugar-free and non-alcoholic options available too.” Neal: “Consider having a vegetarian entrée as well, and choose heavier hors d’oeuvres for guests to eat.” Phillip: “Having cheese on your menu is popular with this kind of reception. It can be eaten throughout the night and pairs well with any drink.”

Jennifer Caldwell & Aaron Carr 05.05.12

Behind the Story

Love Story: We met in high school. Oddly enough, we dated briefly and then lost touch for over 10 years. Aaron came looking for me in 2001, and I refused to go get coffee with him as I was dating someone at the time (and I may have been a little mad at him for breaking my heart in high school). Fortunately, a mutual friend helped reconnect us years later, and now we have the rest of our lives to make up for lost time! Sometimes I can’t believe I married that guy I knew in high school. Wedding Details: We were engaged for one year. Nikki at the Volunteer Princess and my mother coordinated every last detail. We didn’t even have a rehearsal the night before, but you would have thought we had rehearsed several times as it went off without a hitch! The most important thing to me about my wedding was that it was memorable. We wanted our guests to enjoy a venue that was unique. A three hour tour down the river that included the ceremony, dinner, and reception was exactly what we wanted. We didn’t have one guest who had been to a wedding like ours! We have had so much feedback from our guests about how perfect everything was and how much they enjoyed being on the water. The food was amazing, the flowers were absolutely beautiful, and the cake really hit the spot! The weather was beautiful for our evening wedding, and we docked just before dusk. We did get a little spring shower that morning, so we kind of thought we would have nice weather that night! We wanted the ceremony to be simple, yet elegant. We felt like we had selected the perfect venue at the Volunteer Princess, and they really made it happen! They provided most everything to make our day complete, including the catering, florist, cake designer, Officiant, Wedding Coordinator, and a beautiful tour down the river. We decided that black bridesmaid dresses and tuxedos with red and white flowers would give us the elegant look we wanted...and we were very pleased with the results.

Marjan Zarif & Kyle Kirkland PHOTOGRAPHY BY Dixie Pixel

Marjan Zarif & Kyle Kirkland 01.28.12 Love Story: Kyle and I met online on Thanksgiving Day, 2010. I never would have thought that a dating website would be the catalyst for our love story. We lived 400 miles apart, but the distance did not keep us apart for long. A flurry of emails led to many happy phone conversations and finally, a plan to meet at the Georgia Aquarium. We were both so excited and nervous. I remember thinking, “Could this really work?” And yes, it totally did! After dating for eight months, on July 23, 2011, Kyle took me to Jekyll Island, Georgia for “something special.” After dinner, Kyle insisted that we go for a walk down the beach. When we sat down on a big rock, Kyle stood up, took the ring out of his pocket and, to my surprise, asked for my hand in marriage. I said yes, along with “Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, I can’t believe it” over and over again. After I regained my composure, we thanked our Heavenly Father for His perfect timing and guidance in bringing us together. Wedding Details: The vision for our wedding took some time to bring to fruition. I knew I wanted it to be elegant, romantic, and inviting. I scoured through several wedding magazines and websites in search of some inspiration. I soon realized that my eye was drawn to outdoor settings, but the wedding was going to be in January! I wanted to bring the outdoor natural elements indoors. This is when having an experienced wedding planner and florist became very helpful. They were able to create a romantic and intimate wedding venue that felt like you were walking into a forest. A vital aspect to our wedding was the special handmade pieces my mother created. She made pave crystal balls that were part of the centerpieces, beautiful napkin rings, chair ties embellished with crystal butterflies, and a whimsical wish tree. I was so thankful to have such a wonderful team to work with! The wedding planning was a fun and challenging time. I could not have had such a beautiful wedding without my wedding coordinator with her crew of wonderful vendors and my mother. It is 100% worth it to have a wedding planner. She was able to offer a wealth of creative ideas and insight. She directed me to the best wedding vendors in town, and I was so pleased! I was able to depend on her to make sure my wedding day ran smoothly.

Melissa Sindelar & Daniel Pendley 06.10.12

Behind the Story

Love Story: Daniel and I met at an ultimate frisbee game we were invited to by a mutual friend down in Augusta, GA/Aiken,SC, where we were living at the time. Our mutual friend knew we had many similar interests and beliefs, and she was right!! We both enjoy outdoor activities and new adventures, playing our musical instruments in local gigs, and love the Lord and want to live our lives fully for Him. Not to mention, we are both a bit geeky - we are engineers :) Daniel had to move back to his hometown of Oak Ridge, TN, for a job about a year later. On a trip back to Aiken, SC, to visit me, he arranged a picnic at a local park where they have horse shows and fox hunts. He proposed to me on the same bench that we had stopped to talk to each other on the first date. I was very ready and eager to say YES! Wedding Details: We were engaged for a little over six months. Visiting the Pink Bridal Show in downtown Knoxville really helped us learn about vendors in the area. We learned through recommendations from friends who was the best. My planner, Mom, and Daniel were a big help in the planning process. Whitestone wedding packages come with an on-site planner and is there throughout the whole wedding day to help everything to go smoothly. I wanted a very classic wedding with a beautiful Tennessee backdrop. I am from Georgia. When Daniel moved back to his hometown of Oak Ridge, I knew I wanted a wedding in the picture perfect hills of East Tennessee! I didn’t have to work very hard to create a beautiful atmosphere thanks to Whitestone’s property! I chose a lot of antique blue and ivory hydrangeas for my floral arrangements to create a very classic look. The colors were dark teal and ivory. The DIY project was the wedding favors which were little white boxes of dinner mints and Jordan almonds tied with a teal ribbon and sealed with a personalized sticker. My mom, sister, and I assembled them.

Love Story: We met while both attending the University of Tennessee. We both waited tables at the same restaurant and became the best of friends. A year later we began dating, and then five years later we got engaged! Joe’s proposal was a complete surprise, and it happened while on vacation in Jacksonville Beach. We were walking up from the beach toward the boardwalk when Joe claimed he had found something in the sand; when I turned around to see what it was, he was down on one knee with a ring in his hand. Of course I said yes! Wedding Detils: We were engaged for two years, and I enjoyed every bit of the planning process. My mom and my sister were my biggest helpers in making all the special touches that would make it a special day! We did not hire a planner but had a wonderful coordinator, Judy, who works for Crescent Bend. We met with her a few times to discuss details and floor plans, and she executed the day flawlessly! I had a huge wedding planner binder that my mom had gotten me, and it helped me stay organized! I also utilized some of the services on theknot.com. The most important thing about the wedding was that we would unite as one and have all the people we love to be there with us. My vision was outdoors and by the river...Crescent Bend was perfect! They had beautiful tiered gardens facing the Tennessee River, and the historic house was beautiful! The theme was birds, garden, and a bit country. We brought that theme out with mason jar centerpieces and lots of bird details, including the place cards and cake topper handmade by me and my mom. The colors of the wedding were kelly green, yellow, and grey. The DIY projects were all done with the help of my beautiful mom and sister! We made the placecards-hand cut birds, table numbers, bird seed packets made of burlap for tossing. I had a thumbprint guestbook tree that we ordered from Etsy.com that also tied into the theme, and it turned out great!

Stories like Cinderella confirm to us shoes are not only cool, they are an important part of the wedding day. On our wedding day we will probably wear the most expensive dress we will ever wear, so of course accessories, like shoes, are important. Wedding shoes used to be plain, low heeled, white and sometimes boring. After all, most people thought they would never be seen. Now they are supposed to be seen. Shoes are a great way to express your personality and creativity. The most obvious trend was the pop of color we saw peaking out from under the white dresses. Wedding shoes can be any color now. The “Sex and the City” movie helped popularize the “something blue” shoe which we saw a lot of the last few years. Shoes can match the color of the wedding scheme, be the color of a favorite sports team, or be multicolored. Low heels, high heels, sandals, wedges, flip flops, and even boots have been popular. Some brides say they spent longer looking for their shoes than the dress. One of our beautiful brides loved her shoes so much she had a replica of her shoe in pink icing on top of her cake. Trends for 2012 continue from last year with a few more neutrals and metallics. Bling, which never really went out of style, has returned full force. Vintage style, lace and embossed patterns that we have been seeing in the dresses are showing up in the shoes.. Platform shoes return from the 70′s with a modern twist. If the groom is much taller than the bride this is a great equalizer. If you are getting married in the near future make sure you say yes to to a great pair of shoes. Popular designers for wedding shoes include Jimmy Choo, Steve Madden, Stuart Weitzman Martinez Valero, Badgley Mischka, Christian Louboutin, Benjamin Adams, Aldo Tavera, Nina Critia, Ivanka Trump, Betsey Johnson, Kate Spade, Manolo Blahnik ,Jodie Frangiq, Sam Edelman, Fifi, Boutique 9, Seychelles and of course Prada. Nothing makes a girl feel better than a great pair of shoes. Consider websites like Zappos.com, Endless.com, or Stylehive.com. Many bridal dress salons also carry a great selection of shoes in the seasons hottest styles and colors. Bring your shoes to the dress fitting to make sure the length of the dress works with the shoes. Remember getting married is a marathon event. Make sure you love the comfort as well as the style. Heel height is important. If you don’t normally wear a higher heel, you might want to have a pair of flats for the reception. This should be a happy day, so don’t let shoes make it miserable. Remember on your wedding day you will be on your feet all day. If you can wear your shoes during a bridal portrait session or for several hours one day you will get a better idea how comfortable they are. Pick a shoe that fits your personality, style, and wedding and you will be glad you paid attention to the details. A pair of shoes can change your life, just ask Cinderella.

Susan Chattin & Shannon Walker May 12, 2012

Ceremony & Reception Location The Lily Barn

Susan Chattin & Shannon Walker 05.12.12 Love Story: We are such a great match! We both love the outdoors ..the mountains, hiking, camping, canoeing, birds, wildflowers... I could go on and on! It was actually his tattoo of a brook trout that prompted me to introduce myself. The fact that I knew it was a brook trout and not a rainbow trout impressed him so much that we were linked from the start! The way he popped the question was even nature inspired. We make an annual back country camping trip every September into the Shining Rock Wilderness within the Pisgah National Forest. The Shining Rock itself is a large outcropping of white quartz that you can climb and then sit to watch the most beautiful sunsets over the Appalachian Mountains. We had just settled down to view the sinking sun when he proposed, and of course I said Yes! What better setting than that!? Wedding Details: Nature and our Scottish heritage was our inspiration. I wanted it to feel elegant, natural and earthy all together. The venue itself was the biggest piece to the puzzle. A garden full of flowers and tables set in the open air pavilion and under the canopy of trees was the best backdrop. One of my uncles cut old barn wood for the base layer on most of the tables and for my cake stand. Shannon cut large fat discs of cedar for the fruit and cheese display which was part of the cocktail hour held under the 132-yearold cantilever barn. There were vases full of branches, hydrangeas and ferns. A whimsical mix of ceramic birds and candles completed the tables. Another touch of nature was to have honey for our favors, a stack cake disguised as a bee skep for the groom, and the layers of my cake in the shape of bee cells in the hive. My bouquet was a mix of maroon peonies and tulips, fern fronds and maroon fiddlehead ferns...beautiful! The colors were based on Shannon’s Scottish Hunting Tartan: maroon, ivory and a light airy fern green. I had fabric in his tartan and incorporated that into his boutonniere, my bouquet and various other places. I used my tartan fabric for my dad’s boutonniere. And, of course, we had to have a bagpiper, and he was the best!

Emily Stewart & Brandon Kerle 11.11.11 LOve Story: Brandon and I met in high school. We both went to Jackson County High School in Gainesboro, TN. I always tease him because the first time I tried to like him, he turned me down! But eventually fate took over and brought us together. Brandon and I are meant for each other. He’s my best friend! He popped the question in front of a beautiful water fall in one of our local parks, and of course I said YES! The Planning: We were engaged 5 months before the big day. I knew what I had in mind and shared it with family and friends. They helped me shop around and together we found the perfect pieces. I did most of the planning and organizing, but on the day of, my family and friends did a wonderful job making sure our day was perfect. My vision for our wedding was fall. Leaves, vintage, and fall colors were our theme. The scenery at Trillium Springs was perfect for my vision. As soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to be married there. All the surrounding trees and the atmosphere was incredible on the wedding day. With Trillium Springs, we didn’t need too many decorations; the scenery was gorgeous!

Emily Stewart & Brandon Kerley

Our DIY projects were the centerpieces. My mother-in-law and I shopped around, trying to find the perfect ones. We came across some garland that had exactly what we were looking for. We cut and hot-glued them to make them candle rings. In the center, we placed mason jars with a floating candle in them. We saved big by using silk flowers instead of purchasing real ones. My great-aunt makes beautiful flower arrangements, so we bought silk flowers and took them to her, and she made all of our bouquets. We splurged on my wedding dress. I believed it was a very crucial and important piece for the big day, so we splurged a little on my dress, but it was worth it! We truly enjoyed our wedding experience at Trillium Springs. The pavilion was perfect for our wedding day, and scenery was absolutely gorgeous. The honeymoon cabin on the property was a perfect “get away” feel. My groom and I loved the location of the cabin. It felt like you were “away from it all.”

Love Story: Chris and I met at a mutual friend’s wedding in North Carolina. Chris was living in Wisconsin at the time, and I was living in the DC area, so the odds were definitely not in our favor! But we started talking on the phone regularly, and every day for the first year I received letters and postcards in the mail from him just to say hi, let me know he was thinking about me, and tell me about his travels (he is an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed on a ship in the Great Lakes at the time). I quickly learned how loyal, trustworthy, adventurous, smart, funny, kind, and sweet of a guy he was and knew after he made his first trip to visit me in DC a few months later that this guy was special. 1+years of long distance later, Chris was transferred to Cleveland, Ohio, and I followed shortly thereafter. In July 2010 we took a trip to Ogunquit, Maine and went on a walk along the coastline. Chris stopped me at the Bench 27 overlook and popped the question. It was the best moment ever, and I couldn’t stop crying tears of happiness! A couple saw what was happening from the distance and offered to take pictures for us right afterwards to capture the moment. I love that we have those pictures to show our kids someday. Wedding Day: We held everything that weekend onsite at Poplar Springs Inn located in the Virginia Countryside. It rained for the entire week leading up to the wedding, and heavy rain was predicted to continue for the days following. Given that we were planning for an outdoor wedding, I was so stressed and so sad! It was nothing short of a miracle when we woke up to clear skies and sunshine that Saturday morning...the rain held out the whole day for us! We had a tented ceremony and outdoor cocktail hour followed by dinner inside. After dinner we moved outside to an adjacent stone patio under a candle-lit tent where we had a major dance party for the next four hours! Our band was incredible; the party never stopped (except to cut the cake) and we had the absolute time of our lives. I could go on and on. The day really was magical and perfectly us. One of my most memorable moments was when I was getting ready in my suite with my mom, grandmother, and all my bridesmaids, and I looked out the window to find the sun was actually shining, and Chris was with all of his groomsman playing football and goofing around outside on the grounds. I thought to myself, I can’t wait to marry this guy...this is going to be the best day ever. Another favorite moment was when Chris and I were on the dance floor and he shouted out to me, “This is awesome!” That summed it up perfectly!

Ann Bryant & Aaron Weaver April 28, 2012

PHOTOGRAPHY BY Dixie Pixel

Ann Bryant & Aaron Weaver 04.28.12 Love Story: Although Aaron and I grew up in the same community with mutual friends, we didn’t really get to know one another until after college. After a weekend camping trip with friends on an island on Norris Lake, it was evident to both of us that life was better together...and that is how we have spent it ever since. Aaron and I revolve around nature. We love all God’s creatures and all His creation. We appreciate the beauty in the simple things. Plants are refreshing. Animals are rewarding. As a result, we live on a farm with horses, goats, chickens, dogs, a cat, honey bees, and a large garden. A perfect match, a perfect life. It couldn’t be better. Aaron popped the question on a romantic trip to Lexington, KY in early October. He took me to my first horse race and got down on one knee in the middle of the stables when no one was around. In looking back, we didn’t share with anyone around us what major life event had just occured. (Of course besides our family and friends back home!) It was our secret in Lexington, between him and me. It was absolutely perfect. Wedding Details: Our vision and theme was simple, rustic, and vintage. We aren’t formal, and our wedding was anything but. DIY projects included the mason jar centerpieces, wedding wands, and beautiful custom watercolor invitiations from the bride’s mother. We didn’t really put a limit on the color pallet, but instead stuck to warm neutrals and pretty spring hues such as pinks, corals, and yellows. Since we dated for almost six years prior to the wedding, Aaron and I weren’t concerned about a long engagement. We were excited about our wedding day, but didn’t want to spend a year planning it. My sister lives in Europe, and had a pre-planned trip to the United States in late April. Therefore, we set the date for April 28th. Aaron’s mother is a seasoned wedding planner, which definitely expedited the planning process. She kept us on track with nailing down important dates while ensuring we remained true to our desires. From the start, we were certain of two things. We love hiking and spending time in the Smokies; therefore Aaron was set on having the ceremony in Cades Cove from the start. I knew that Tara from Dixie Pixel was the only one that could appropriately capture every moment in the spirit in which I rememebered it. Once those two were confirmed, the rest fell into place.

Wedding Day: My wedding day was absolutely perfect! I would not go back and change anything about my day! I was very shocked, but I did not cry! I was so happy and so in the moment, it was absolutely incredible to know I would spend the rest of my life with my best friend. Our flower girl Montana, was absolutely adorable. However, she took a good 5 minutes to get down the aisle. She would throw the petals down and keep looking at them. She got half way down the aisle and realized she ran out of petals, so she went back and picked them up to finish out the aisle. Once I got to the front, she thought it would be fun to lift my train up and look under my dress and throw rose petals under it as well. It was so funny. After that, everything went as planned! One of my most memorable moments was when the chapel doors opened and I looked down the aisle and saw my handsome groom waiting on me. I was told before the wedding to stop and take it all in before walking down the aisle...and I did. I was so excited I just wanted to run down the aisle! My next memorable moment was the sand ceremony where Greg and I poured our separate sand into one vase. We were trying to go slow because my friend Morgan was singing, “How Beautiful.” Well, Greg poured a little too much and ended up pouring all of his sand in before mine...not much blending going on. We had a few laughs about it! Wedding Details: We were engaged for a year and a month. My mom, Greg’s mom, and our wedding coordinator all helped through the entire process. The most important thing to me about the wedding was our ceremony, and how we want to show God’s love through us.

Briana Caldwell & Greg Phillips

My vision/theme was a modern and vintage look combined. I used coral for the bridesmaids and the groom and groomsmen wore black tux. Frost chapel is very vintage, so I just added elegance with the dresses of the bridesmaids and my gown (which was both vintage and modern). My wedding coordinator used hydrangeas to decorate the front, and we had kissing balls to designate the family pews. I carried white and light blue hydrangeas. The bridesmaids carried mini calla lilies and the groomsmen wore mini calla lilies.

Jordan Snow& Joseph Kimmet June 16th, 2012 Ceremony & Reception Location RT Lodge

Jordan Snow & Joseph Kimmet 06.16.12 The Proposal: Joe and I were about to leave to visit his grandparents in Ohio. While we were getting ready to go, Joe told me his mom had forgotten to give me one last Christmas present and had asked him to give it to me. I waited on the couch and he brought back what looked like a wrapped picture frame. I’ve always told Joe I wanted to live in a little blue house and inside the picture frame was a picture he had made of a little blue house, with the words “Will you marry me?” across the top. I said yes! WEdding Details: We were engaged a year and a half so we had a while to get everything together. Joe and I were both in school during the time, so we needed the extra planning time so we could focus on our studies. My bridesmaids were really helpful in getting all of the little details together. My mom was probably the biggest help. We made so many trips to the florist, to get dress alterations, and to get crafts for our DIY projects. My dad was also great. My mom had to unexpectedly go out of town just a few weeks before the wedding. My dad went to several appointments with me helped me pick out flowers. We didn’t hire a planner, but the event coordinator at the RT Lodge, Alex Hansen filled that role. She did a wonderful job of helping us put everything together and managing all of the rentals we needed. My mom and I always jokingly called the wedding “Rustic Chic.” I wanted a casual but beautiful wedding. I wanted the atmosphere to be relaxed enough for the reception to feel like a joyous party. I think the RT Lodge was perfect for this. Everything was beautiful, with flowers everywhere, stone walkways, strung lights and outdoor fireplaces. The flowers Lisa Foster did were everything I wanted. They were kind of wild looking and not too manicured but still very romantic. She captured my vision perfectly. We did two DIY projects. For favors my mom, dad, and I filled little Ball jars with local honey. We also put labels on the tops of the jars that had everyone’s names and their table number so that they doubled as escort cards. Our second DIY project was making paper fan wedding programs. We printed them on card-stock and attached popsicle sticks in between each side. They turned out really cute and I think the guests appreciated them during the hot outdoor ceremony! Our wedding colors were yellow and gray. The bridesmaid dresses were gray and all of the flowers and accents were yellow. It turned out really pretty.

Behind the Story

The Proposal: Jackson loves surprises, and he’s really good at them. On the day Jackson proposed, I had gotten a call letting me know I was going to receive an offer for the job I had wanted for months. Jackson asked me to come by his house after work because his family wanted to meet up with us for dinner to celebrate. When I got to his house, our song was playing in the living room and he had gotten me flowers. He said he just wanted to do something special for me because he was so proud that I had gotten the job that I wanted so badly. Right as we were getting ready to walk out the door, and I was so distracted with jumping up and down celebrating my new job, he dropped to his knee, and at the same time he asked, I fell to my knees to hug him and screamed YES! All along, I thought we were meeting with his family to celebrate my job, but they knew something I didn’t know yet! That was June 10, 2011, and it was a GREAT day. Wedding Details: We were engaged for three and a half months. We dated for three years and were so excited to get married, we didn’t want to wait very long after we got engaged. We also hoped to be married before the holidays. Without my mother-in-law, we absolutely wouldn’t have been able to pull it off. She knows us so well, and did an incredible job helping to bring to life a wedding that truly reflected Jackson and I, and what we envisioned for our big day. It was absolutely perfect. We chose Reserve at Bluebird Hill for our vintage/antique wedding. We didn’t want bright tones, but wanted more muted, soft tones. The wedding was in October, so we didn’t want it to look too much like a spring wedding, but we still wanted a lot of color. We decided on more muted greens, pinks, purples, greys, silver, and white.

Rebekah Helton & Caleb Gaston PHOTOGRAPHY BY Sabrina Lafon Photography

Rebekah Helton & Caleb Gaston 05.26.12 Love story: We met at Clemson University. Caleb and I worked in the athletic department together. Caleb rented a canoe on New Year’s Eve and proposed during a float trip and picnic at Congaree National Park near Columbia, SC.

Wedding Day: I laughed all day with my bridesmaids helping me get ready and taking pictures. My father-in-law made me cry as he teared up while officiating our service. Caleb, my groom, made me smile when I saw him for the first time. I loved spending the wedding weekend with our family and friends in my hometown.

Wedding Details: We had a five month engagement. Both of our mothers helped with the wedding day. Family friend Debby Ingle was our wedding coordinator and host. I used the knot.com, Pinterest, and Style-Me-Pretty to help with the planning. The most important part of our wedding was the personal details and the family/friends atmosphere. Our DIY projects were pecan pie bars, thumb print tree, programs, invitations, shoe clips, garter, flowers in hair, homemade BBQ sauce The themes were vintage, old vintage frames with family members, burlap table cloths, mismatched china, and vintage bicycles, Our getaway car was my 1978 Grandfather’s old Ford pick up truck. Out colors were peach and grey.

Marriage Advice: Enjoy the planning process. It goes by quickly. Don’t stress about the details because at the end of the day if you got married, it was a success! We look forward to living together and having new adventures as man and wife.
