ENGAGEMENT

5 WAYS TO PREP FOR YOUR

ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS by Chelsey Gatlin Doesn’t it seem like everyone is divided into two groups when it comes to engagement photos? Either you are jumping for joy and cannot wait to get in front of the camera or you are dreading it. Or maybe it all depends on the day! No matter what group you are leaning to on the day of, there are ways to prep, so that you can look and more importantly FEEL your best on the shoot day!

Special or not, the location is just a location. Picking the location might seem to be the most important decision to set the tone for your engagement photos. However, it doesn’t have to be that complicated! You can choose a location that holds meaning to your relationship like where you met, your first date, or even where you got engaged in the first place! Some venues even let you have your engagement photos at their site prior to the big day, too! Having said that, a location doesn’t have to hold some special meaning to be perfect for your photos. With a good photographer, a random field on the side of the road could be just as inspiring! Not to mention that it will become one of those special locations where you point and reminisce. Remember, it doesn’t necessarily matter where you are, but more importantly who you are with.

Choosing the perfect outfits doesn’t have to be hard! For photos that you’ll want to post on all your social media and maybe even use for your invitations or save the dates, the pressure to look your best is definitely on! Before you get into finding the perfect color tones of your hubby’s shirt to match your dress, think about the kind of outfits you’re most comfortable in. If you’re more of a casual gal, that’s fine! Your photos don’t have to be totally glam to be beautiful! And don’t worry about matching outfits exactly! As long as the colors complement one another, they’ll turn out just fine on camera.

Engagement photos are a great excuse for a little pampering, too! Give yourself (and your ring) a little TLC before the shoot! It will not only help you to look good, but it will also relax you a bit. So go get that blowout and your nails done! Your left hand is going to be getting a little more attention in these photos. Or go ahead and schedule your hair and makeup trials for the same day! That’s a great way to kill two birds with one stone. If you are doing your own makeup for your engagement photos, go just a bit heavier than normal. It will translate better on camera, trust us!

Be on time! One thing that is crucial on engagement shoots is the limited amount of time you have. If you want those dreamy photos during golden hour, you have to soak up every minute during a certain time period. Once the sunlight is gone, it’s gone, especially if you’re shooting in a location that only gets sun during certain periods of the day. Your photographer will also thank you for being punctual!

And finally, relax!

Nathan Dumlao on Unsplash

You’re there to document YOU! These photos are meant to represent you, your spouse-tobe, and the love between you. You’ve done all the prep work, so you can now finally relax and just be together! We know that is easier said than done, but it’s not about where you are, what you’re wearing, or what time it is, it’s all about who you are with. Focus on the person in front of you, and the rest will figure itself out! Alekon Pictures on Unsplash

WEDDING 101

WEDDING PLANNING 101 A JUMPSTART TO PLANNING YOUR PERFECT DAY By Chelsey Gatlin

Congratulations on getting engaged! Now comes the fun (and sometimes hard) part: planning your wedding. There are endless possibilities and ideas for any type of wedding you can imagine from a DIY celebration of 50 guests to a blowout bash of 300. With that many options, you might not know where to even start. We’ve listed our top wedding planning go-tos to help start you in the right direction!

BE OPEN & COMMUNICATIVE

STAY ON TRACK

From the get-go, be open about your feelings, thoughts, and contributions when in discussions with not only your fiancé, but also your family, wedding party, and your wedding professionals. You don’t want to book something or say yes when you’re really unsure and regret it later on.

Keeping up with all of these details is hard work in itself, but is an absolute necessity when it comes to wedding planning! Stay on top of what you already have, what you need, and what you’re spending with our checklists in the back of this issue!

FIGURE OUT THE VISION

DO YOUR HOMEWORK

Whether it’s from Pinterest, social media, or within the pages of our Tennessee Weddings magazine, start marking the images that make your heart beat a little faster. After a first sweep, go through and narrow it down to the main recurrent themes and colors. This will help when choosing your wedding professionals and decor!

Wedding planning is not always easy and is sometimes in a world completely on its own. That’s why doing your research before you start planning can definitely save you later on. Find out realistic costs for wedding items and professionals in your area. Consider the time of year you’re wanting to get married in. Get savvy on wedding industry terms. Before meetings with potential wedding professionals, take a look at their website and social media. Have a good idea of what they offer, and any questions you may want to ask them.

BOOK YOUR VENUE EARLY ON

By booking your venue in the early stages of planning, you can potentially cross off multiple to-do’s from your list! Set the date? Check. Set the tone? Check. And even perhaps, booking multiple wedding professionals if your chosen venue is all-inclusive.

FIND OUT YOUR MUST-HAVES

Each of you has something that you really want present at your wedding. For you, it may be the perfect venue to set the tone, but for him, it may be an amazing assortment of delicious food. Sit down separately, create a list of two or three aspects that are in your dream wedding, and then compare the lists with one another. Talk through each and discuss why it’s important to you. If some things can be combined, you want a great time for guests and he wants a dance party, that works perfectly! If they aren’t alike at all, choose one from each list and mutually decide on a third that is important to both of you.

The often most dreaded aspect of wedding planning is the budget. My tip is the earlier the better, and get it over with! Start by having an open and honest discussion with your spouse-to-be about where you both stand on finances and how much you’re comfortable spending. Then talk with any family members who plan on contributing. With the research you’ve already put together, you’ll know what is normal and how much you’re setting aside to budget for.

T | W · 28

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by ideas, especially when It comes to Pinterest. However, it can be detrimental to wedding planning! Use it as a tool, but not a complete guide for your day. Find ideas you like and are able to realistically recreate with your wedding professionals within your budget to not get disappointed later on.

BE FLEXIBLE

Photo by Vitor Pinto on Unsplash

SET YOUR BUDGET

DON’T LET PINTEREST TAKE OVER

Wedding planning does not go as expected 100% of the time. You have to be flexible about it, or you’ll drive yourself crazy. Things happen, your ideal venue is booked two years out or the weather forecast doesn’t look good, but it all works out in the end because…

THE DAY IS ABOUT LOVE

Don’t forget what the day is about! You and your spouse, your love, your families becoming one, and the start of your new family. Simple as that.

STYLE

THE PERFECT SHAPE By: Chelsey Gatlin You have the perfect partner, the perfect ring, and now it’s time to find your perfect dress! So what dress style is the right fit for you? Check out our crash course into wedding dress basics to find the best fit for your big day!

BALLGOWN

When you think of a fairytale wedding, this is more than likely the dress you’re envisioning and it definitely fits the “princess” dress theme. It has a fitted bodice with a large, full skirt perfect for twirling!

TRUMPET

A trumpet dress features a more fit-and-flare style. This gown waits to flare around the midthigh for a mix of both princess and modern!

A-LINE

This is your standard go-to for wedding dresses. While it is similar to the ballgown with its fitted bodice and overall shape, the A-line gown’s skirt is more flowing with less fluff.

TEA LENGTH

Calling all vintage lovers! The tea length style was very popular in the 1950s and usually is a A-line or ballgown shape with a much shorter hemline ending right below the knee.

MERMAID

The mermaid and trumpet can sometimes be confused, however, the mermaid introduces a sexier vibe! This dress stays fitted until the knee to really show off your curves!

SHEATH

Also known as column style, this gown has a straight, narrow shape without much of a flair if any at all. Perfect for the modern or minimalistic bride!

JUMPSUIT

Introducing the newcomer of bridal styles, the jumpsuit. This style is quickly gaining in popularity as it can be totally chic and comfortable! Whether it’s completely fitted with a pencil pant bottom or more fun with a wide leg, this is a great option for you non-conventional brides!

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT

MEN’S WEDDING ATTIRE By: Chelsey Gatlin Despite popular belief, women are not the only ones who stress and ponder about what to wear to an event, especially one this important. And sometimes, it’s even more confusing for the guys when it comes to what attire is technically appropriate. We’ve broken down each dress code below, so you will know exactly how to dress for every occasion!

Details Nashville

BLACK TIE A tuxedo is a must! This includes the black dinner jacket, matching pants, a white formal shirt, and a black bow tie or long black tie. You may also choose to either wear a black cummerbund or vest. Both are not required, but at least one is. A tuxedo is not just for the groom either at a black tie wedding. All men in attendance are expected to don the classic tux. Even though this isn’t the average look for weddings anymore, it is totally classic and oh so handsome! BLACK TIE OPTIONAL While a tuxedo is still appropriate and preferred, a formal dark suit will suffice here as well! Keep it in the colors of black or dark gray with clean, sharp lines. Basically, a suit that resembles a tux, but isn’t. When the majority of the guest count is wearing a tuxedo, you definitely don’t want to be the one standing out. We would also still keep a tie for a totally dapper look.

COCKTAIL/SEMI-FORMAL With this style, you can be more relaxed! No tuxedos necessary. However, let’s not go overboard. It’s still a wedding at the end of the day! You can now veer into different colors like navy or a lighter gray for your chosen color of suit. Bow-ties and bold dress socks can be fun additions to an otherwise simple look and for a pop of personality too! To create a seamless look for the entire wedding party, a good rule of thumb is if the bridesmaids are in a more formal dress, it’s best to also have the groomsmen match the quality. You don’t want one more formal than the other especially looking back in your photos! CASUAL While this doesn’t mean show up in your old jeans, it is a more laid-back look! We’ve seen guys in suspenders (hello vintage inspired soirees!), khakis with a loose flowing white shirts for destination weddings, and even tan suits for spring affairs. With a casual dress code, you have more liberty to play towards your wedding theme too! For guests, we say take a cue from the location of the wedding to get the best idea of what is more appropriate. What necessarily is great for a barn wedding may not work for a tropical wedding.

WEDDING 101

15 WEDDING DAY

MORNING OF ESSENTIALS by: Chelsey Gatlin Wedding days can be stressful. It’s a big day, emotions are running high, lots of people coming and going, and most importantly, getting ready to say “I Do!” With all of that going on, of course there are things that get overlooked. This list of 15 wedding day morning of essentials will help be sure that even the smallest bobby pin is available for your special day! POSITIVE VIBES First and foremost, positive vibes only! From you, your squad, and your hired pros. It’s understandable to be a little nervous or have a freak out moment or two, but don’t let that take over for the whole morning. Remember, the whole day is about you getting to marry the love of your life and spending forever with them. The wedding is a celebration of you two, and as long as you’re together, that’s all that matters! THE TRUSTY TIMELINE Not necessarily something you need to have handy all morning long, but to at least know the basic rundown of your timeline (either from your personal planning or from your wedding planner) is a must! That way you and your girls can be on time and ready, and you don’t have to stress. If this is something you don’t want to deal with day of, pass to your MOH. CELL PHONE CHARGERS When the festivities start early and you’re bound to take photos getting ready, a cell phone charger is a necessity with a capital N! DELICIOUS SNACKS Speaking of early days, your wedding day will also be a long one. You’ll need to fuel up long before the reception, so be sure to have a light lunch and include some of your favorite snacks! Extra points for a tasty charcuterie board for everyone! WATER! WATER! WATER! Along with your fav snacks, be sure to drink water! You would be surprised how exhausting weddings are, and how much you’ll be talking and smiling all day long. MINTS After all, you will be kissing a little later in the day, so pop a mint or two after those snacks and drinks! TISSUES An obvious choice huh? Tissues are of course on this list because, well, ugly crying. EXTRA MAKEUP & REMOVER After your makeup is done and you’ve taken a few photos, having extra makeup for touch ups and some makeup remover just in case is good to have on hand!

T | W · 48

Finch Photo

THE RIGHT UNDERGARMENTS In a rush, you may forget that you’ll be wearing white all day long, so bright pink undergarments that you grabbed the morning of, may not be entirely appropriate. Be sure to pack these beforehand and to include any shapewear you’ll need too! Pro tip: Ladies, if you’re wearing a strapless or open back dress, try not to wear a bra the morning of to avoid those harsh, red lines in photos after you change. SHOES (AND EXTRA SHOES) Of course, you’ll need your pretty wedding day shoes, but don’t forget maybe another pair that’s more comfortable for the dance floor! EMERGENCY ITEMS Including band-aids, safety pins, double stick tape, lint roller, bobby pins, scissors, tampons, stain remover, wipes, and anything else you can think of. You would be surprised how often these are needed. If you have a wedding planner, they should have their own too!

JEWELRY & MEMENTOS Your jewelry and any other special mementos like brooches, hair clips, and bouquet charms should definitely be brought along, but be sure to keep them in a safe place the morning of! YOUR SIGNATURE SCENT We love the idea of a signature wedding day scent. It’s a smell that will always transport you back to this special day, and will help you feel totally put together when you walk down the aisle. GIFTS The morning of is a wonderful time to give gifts to your closest people. 7 WAYS TO TACKLE THE

WEDDING BUDGET By Chelsey Gatlin

The dreaded budget! One of the top complaints we hear from engaged couples is dealing with their budget. Here are our top 7 tips for navigating the financial seas of wedding planning!

MAKE IT SIMPLE

Budgets don’t have to be hard, but they can definitely be intimidating at first. Break it down until it feels manageable, and then take it piece-by-piece.

BE ACCOUNTABLE

Have a physical or e-version of a budget sheet and actively mark your expenses and prices. It will help you keep a good number in your head of where you stand while planning, and make sure to not overspend and blow your budget!

START WITH YOUR MUST-HAVES

Find real prices in your area and include them at the top of your budget, so you’ll know the important things are accounted for right out of the bat.

BE REALISTIC

We all love Pinterest weddings, but some of those ideas are worth thousands of dollars! Be realistic in your price ideas to avoid heartbreak later on.

ANY HELP?

Know who all is contributing and how much they are planning to add early on if it is going to play a major factor in your budget or booking your vendors.

SAVE WHERE YOU CAN

If you’re getting to a point where your budget is running a little low, consider cutting out unnecessary expenses or DIY them if you can!

Bridget Flohe on Unsplash

DON’T FORGET THE SNEAKY EXPENSES

T | W · 56

Sometimes certain costs are hidden until you get the final bill, and then you see that you’ve gone way over budget. Keep these in mind when calculating your initial budget plan and in your meetings with potential vendors: tips, gifts, service charges, overbooking charges, and seasonal fees.

10 Tips for Creating Your

WEDDING WEBSITE By Chelsey Gatlin 1. CARRY ON THE THEME

This is a wonderful opportunity to expand the theme of your wedding and give your guests a little sneak peak into the celebrations!

2. DON’T INCLUDE EVENTS NOT EVERYONE IS PRIVY TO Such as your bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner, etc. Your guests are excited to be there for you, so there isn’t a need to include events they may not be invited to.

6. DON’T RELY ON GUESTS TO RSVP ONLINE

Some guests might RSVP online, however, a majority probably won’t, especially if they are an older crowd. It’s better to be safe than sorry and stick with the good ol’ formal paper RSVPs.

7. GIVE THEM THE DETAILS

Think of this as the who, what, and where section. Be sure to include a basic timeline, the dress code, and any pertinent info from the venue like parking.

3. PERSONALIZE IT

This is your chance to brag about your proposal or how we met story! Even if everyone’s heard it already, they are excited about the wedding and on your website to learn more about celebrating you! So, give them what they want — that being a sweet love story!

4. KEEP IT SIMPLE

However, don’t have them reading a novel either. Guests do want to read all about your relationship, your wedding party, and the info, but too much will bog them down. Keep it short and sweet as much as you can. You can run a little longer in your “About Us” section, but when introducing your wedding party stick to a couple of quick facts.

5. INCLUDE DIRECTIONS & TRAVEL

For any destination wedding or when your guest list has a lot of out of towners, you need to include some details on where to go and how to get there! Nothing is worse than being in a new city for an event, and not having a clue about where you’re going! Relieve some of the stress for your out of town guests by being a local travel guide via your wedding website. Include directions, whether that is step by step or a Google map link set straight to your venue, and any necessary travel info such as road closures or busy traffic times. Don’t forget to add some cool things they can check out and do while in town, too!

T | W · 66

8. INCLUDE SOCIAL MEDIA

This is a great chance to include your wedding hashtag! Or let your guests know that your ceremony is unplugged.

9. CREATE A WEDDING EMAIL FOR ALL QUESTIONS TO BE DIRECTED TO This is a must when wedding planning in general! However, creating a wedding email that is included on your website is great for when you don’t want your personal inbox full from wedding questions!

10. SHOW OFF THOSE BEAUTIFUL ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS!

You both look great, so show them off! This is the perfect place to relieve your social media feed from an influx of engagement photos, and be able to share them with your closest loved ones!

BEAUTY

7 DRUGSTORE BEAUTY HACKS LEADING UP TO THE BIG DAY By: Chelsey Gatlin On such a big day of your life, of course you want to look your best! While the beauty and health industry has countless ways to prep for your special day, you don’t always have to spend the big bucks to achieve that bridal glow. Try these 7 drugstore beauty products leading up to your celebrations for a beautiful look with a reasonable price! PS. Keep in mind that any new treatment or product should NOT be tried within 6 weeks of your wedding day!

TEETH WHITENING STRIPS, TRAYS, & GELS Of course, our smiles are a big concern when it comes to weddings. It is easily one of the most photographed days of your life, so a dazzling smile is a must! It is so easy to achieve a whiter smile with the many products on the market. From Crest White Strips and the numerous whitening toothpastes to a deluxe whitening light, you won’t have to break the bank for a gorgeous smile! FACE MASKS I have to admit, face masks are my thing! They are my number one go-to for a little R&R, and I love that I can do them sitting on my couch while binging Real Housewives. Plus, there’s a face mask for every skin concern! I personally keep going back to L’Oreal’s clay masks and the Yes To brand depending on what I need.

T | W · 72

SKINCARE Skincare is a very popular topic these days, especially when it comes to bridal beauty! We all want clear, glowing skin and there are so many routes to get there! From holy grail moisturizers and new retinol serums to quick acne treatments, your local drugstore has it. It’s also the perfect opportunity to try a few different methods to see what works for you without breaking the bank. Check out tried-andtrue products like CeraVe Facial Cleanser and Aveeno’s Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer with SPF 15 for a smoother, healthier complexion! LIP SCRUBS Flaky, dry lips with patchy looking lipstick? A definite no-no for your nuptials! Try a low-cost lip scrub to get your lips in tip top shape! Or better yet, grab the ingredients and make your own!

CUTICLE OILS Along with photos of your skin and smile, your hands are going to be photographed and looked at a lot. No one wants jagged, peeling cuticles around that fab manicure and sparkling ring! Grab some quick cuticle oil from your local drugstore to keep your cuticles hydrated and in great shape before your big day. Sally Hansen, Essie, and Burt’s Bees all have great options! JADE ROLLERS This handheld massage tool is really making a name for itself within the beauty industry! If you’ve not heard of this yet, the jade roller is known for plumping the skin and improving circulation. It also reduces redness, inflammation, dark circles, and wrinkles! Paired with your favorite oil or cream, this is a perfect way to relax before bed and your big day!

HAIR MASKS We can’t forget about giving your strands some love too! Hair masks are so easy to do! Whether it’s a quick 5 minute in-shower mask or a longer split end treatment, this is wonderful keeping your ends and dryness in check! Say hello to healthy, shiny hair! My favorite is definitely Kristin Ess’s daily scalp mask from Target!

OUR TOP

WEDDING PLANNING MISTAKES

TO AVOID

By Chelsey Gatlin

Mistakes are going to happen in any aspect of your life, including your wedding day, unfortunately. Be on the lookout for these top 10 wedding planning blunders that past couples have fallen into!

1. NOT DOING RESEARCH BEFOREHAND

Doing your research is key to wedding planning! Without doing a little homework before the big day, you can run into wedding day nightmares like underestimating costs and blowing your budget or not reading a contract thoroughly and having your caterer head out leaving a huge mess for you. Uh-oh!

2. BOOKING BEFORE YOU BUDGET

I know you’ve probably heard time and time again, “Your budget is so important!” Well, it’s true. Without having a budget set, you run the risk of spending way too much! You may think that there’s no harm in booking a few vendors before the budget is set. However, usually those first few bookings are your venue, photographer, and caterer, and those are also the most investment typically. If you use a large portion of your budget then, what’s left for decor, your dress, or anything else? Trust us, no one wants to be stressed about money on the day of!

3. NO RAIN PLAN

Mother Nature has a plan all her own, and no one can 100% predict it. No matter what season you’re getting married in or what type of venue, it’s always a good idea to have a Plan B in case something goes awry with the weather.

4. TRYING TO PLEASE EVERYONE

Your wedding day is not only important to you and your soon-tobe hubby, but also members of your family and friends as well. While it is nice to get opinions and ideas from your circle, don’t let it become too demanding. You can’t have everyone’s dream wedding and yours all-in-one, so take what ideas you genuinely like and thank the others for their input.

5. NOT BEING CONSIDERATE

While some brides try to please everyone, others tend to forget about the ones who are helping make their dream a reality. Take into consideration your wedding party and guests when making some decisions. For example, don’t ask your bridesmaids to go on an expensive bachelorette party and then to buy a $700 bridesmaids dress and pricey wedding gift.

T | W · 76

6. HANDLING THE DAY OF DUTIES

Hiring a wedding planner or a day of coordinator is a good idea, but if it’s not in your budget, please don’t consider doing it yourself. Whether it’s your MOH, mom, or sister, have someone available to be a point of contact for the day of. There will most likely be some sort of question or event that needs addressing, and you don’t want those concerns coming to you when getting ready.

7. GETTING ATTACHED TO CERTAIN ASPECTS

Try to avoid getting too attached to a certain idea, flower, piece of decor, or venue, until the contract is signed or the plans are in process. It may not be available or in season, and then your other choices look a little less than. Latching on to something that’s not guaranteed is a recipe for heartbreak.

8. TRYING TO CONTROL EVERYTHING (AND EVERYONE!)

While a lot of wedding planning is being focused and organized, you also have to go with the flow! Things are bound to happen that aren’t in your plans, and instead of stressing, you have to move forward. Also, remember that your wedding professionals are just that, wedding professionals. They have experience in executing events and do it all the time. Express your concerns or problems, but let the pros handle it.

9. DIY EVERYTHING

We love a good DIY! Who doesn’t? It saves money and can look just as good! However, don’t overwhelm yourself with trying to DIY every aspect of your wedding! It will just lead to more stress and more to-do’s before the big day.

10. FORGETTING ABOUT WHAT THE DAY MEANS

When planning something as important and massive as your wedding day, you can lose sight on what it’s all about. Through all the ups and downs, it boils down to you and your spouse-to-be celebrating your commitment and future together.

CREATING THE PERFECT

SEATING CHART by Chelsey Gatlin

Creating the perfect seating chart is almost as hard as choosing who to invite in the first place. Never fear, there are tips and tricks to easily create the perfect seating chart. So go ahead and rest your worries of reception drama!

WHO GOES WHERE?

WEDDING PARTY Depending on your tastes and reception layout, your wedding party plus their dates usually sit at the head table with you. However, if you’re leaning towards a sweetheart table situation for you and your beau, there are a few options. You can either have a table just for the wedding party, scatter them throughout your closest tables with family, or disperse them throughout the reception tables acting as hosts for each. This last option is great if you have a lot of guests who don’t know each other very well! FAMILY Typically, the first few closest tables to the bride and groom are reserved for their immediate family, and usually are divided between the couple. For instance, if the bride is seated on the right side, her family’s tables will be those closest to her. In the occurrence of divorced parents, they may play host to their own individual tables with their family members and guests if needed. FRIENDS & COWORKERS Your friends and coworkers that aren’t members of your family or the wedding party usually fill in the tables farther out on the seating chart.

T | W · 86

DESIGN DETAILS

HOW TO DISPLAY IT We strongly suggest having some type of escort card, place card, or large seating chart for your guests. Depending on your guest count and budget, each one has its strengths. For a smaller guest count, a seating chart can be sufficient on its own, but for a larger wedding of 100 guests or more, escort cards or place cards would be the route to go. Assigning tables only and leaving your guests to choose their individual seat can definitely be easier if there are no possibilities of drama or odd seating. And remember, escort cards indicate table number and place cards indicate exact seating placement. PLAY UP YOUR THEME! This is a great chance for you to play up your theme! Romantic calligraphy, modern aesthetics, and matching decor is a great way to tie in your seating chart to the overall atmosphere of the day! However, try to make it easy to read as guests will be wanting to find their seats, quick, fast, and in a hurry! You don’t want Aunt June to accidentally take a seat with your hubby’s rowdy guy friends!

3 QUICK TIPS TO NOT FORGET

STAGING THE VENUE This is a great way for you visual learners out there to start! Create a floor plan layout of your reception including the cake table, band, and DJ, so you can see what each table is next to. It’s probably not a great idea to place elderly relatives right next to the DJ’s speakers. DON’T TRY TO HEADSTART THE PROCESS! Wait until you start receiving those pesky RSVP’s before you really dive into the seating chart. This will save you the anticipated trouble in the off chance a large group can’t make the wedding, and you have to rework the entire chart. DON’T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF After dinner, most of your guests won’t know what table they were at to begin with. They will be more focused on the open bar and the dance floor, so try not to stress too much. That goes along with those last-minute changes as well! Nothing is set in stone, and that definitely includes your seating chart. Just remember, it’s no sweat in the long-term!

TABLE SIZES

Figuring out your table sizes and how many people can comfortably fit is a great place to start to get a general idea of the layout for your guests. QUICK REFERENCE: 72” round table or 6’ rectangular table: 10-12 guests 60” round table or 5’ rectangular table: 8-10 guests 48” round table or 4’ rectangular table: 6-8 guests

PROS AND CONS OF GOING

UNPLUG GED By Katherine Whitehead

In the age of digital media, people are bombarded by technology. With the release of the smartphone over a decade ago, more and more people are taking to their mobile devices to share some of the most intimate moments of their lives, including their wedding day. From snapping, posting and sharing to streaming the ceremony live on social media, tying the knot has taken on another digital dimension through the popularity of Facebook and apps like Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter. When it comes to making the decision to take your own vows online, we have compiled a list of the pros and cons of having a technology-free wedding day.

Pros of Unplugging LIVE IN THE MOMENT One of the best parts about having an unplugged wedding is that, without technology, your wedding day will be distraction free. Because guests won’t be constantly checking their phones, they will be more present in the moment and won’t be posting photos that you don’t want to be shared on social media. LEAVE PHOTOGRAPHY TO THE PROFESSIONALS While we all know that anyone can be a self-proclaimed wedding photographer on their smartphones and cameras, having an unplugged wedding allows the real photographers to get the shots that really matter without the fear of others getting in the way. NOBODY IS LEFT OUT We all know the feeling of FOMO: the feeling that you may be missing out on something that could have been really fun. When your guests are asked to refrain from posting photos of your wedding online, you won’t have to worry that those who you did not invite or were unable to attend the wedding will be feeling left out.

T | W · 106

Pros of Plugging In MORE OPPORTUNITIES If you’re an avid social media user, you may be bummed out that you’re missing several opportunities for some amazing shots. Some of the best photos are taken from our besties while they’re cheering us on from the pews. With the use of technology, you will have a chance to see all of those fun pictures and videos taken by your friends and family. CUSTOMIZE YOUR WEDDING DAY Having the use of social media allows you to completely customize your big day online. Try using a custom hashtag for your wedding guests to use in their posts, that way everyone can see the photos taken at your venue. Snapchat also allows users to buy a custom geofilter so your guests can make their experience at your ceremony and reception interactive. SHARING THE DAY WITH OUT-OF-TOWN GUESTS It’s more than likely that not everyone will be able to attend your wedding. With social media you will be able to share those moments that your out of town guests were unable to see, giving them to play a small part in your big day.

SHOULD YOU HAVE AN UNPLUGGED WEDDING? THE SOCIAL VISIONARY - NO Are you an avid social media user and self proclaimed influencer? Social visionaries are known for being creative, outspoken, and get very excited about new ideas and projects. As a visionary, you are resourceful and intellectually quick with an eye for detail and the “sharing economy”. THE SOCIAL NURTURER - NO The social nurturer is warm-hearted, popular, and are avid social media users. They have a well developed sense of space and function and usually put the needs of others above their own. THE SOCIAL DOER - NO Social doers are friendly, adaptable and action-oriented. As doers, they are risk-takers who live fast-paced lifestyles and are interested in living in the here and now. They often partake in extreme sports and other activities that get their adrenaline pumping. THE SOCIAL ATHLETE - YES Social athletes are serious and quiet. They are usually interested in supporting and promoting traditions and establishments and are well-organized and hard working.

STYLE

SAY YES TO THE VEIL By Julie Hancock Understanding the different lengths and styles of veils is important when trying to choose the perfect veil for your special day!

BALLET VEIL

A ballet veil falls somewhere between midthigh and calf length. They are a great choice for outdoor weddings, allowing the look of a long veil without it dragging in the dirt!

CHAPEL VEIL

A chapel veil is one of the longest veils available. Ideal for formal weddings, these veils are long enough to touch the ground and are very romantic! Juan Gomez on Unsplash

BIRDCAGE VEIL

The birdcage veil is ideal for vintage style weddings. These veils are about mid-nose length, often drape down over one or both eyes, and are made of a wider mesh so they can be easily seen through.

Samantha Gades on Unsplash

DOUBLE TIERED VEIL

Veil Lengths

The double tiered veil is probably what comes to mind when you think of a traditional wedding veil. These veils have two panels, with the shorter one often being draped over the brides face as she walks down the aisle.

FINGERTIP LENGTH VEIL

As the name suggests, this popular veil reaches fingertip length. It’s a flattering style that works well for any type of ceremony!

POUF VEILS

ELBOW LENGTH VEIL

Again, as the name suggests, this veil goes down to around elbow length. The elbow length veil doesn’t cover as much, making it ideal for pairing with gowns that have intricate detailing on the back.

Fernanda Prado on Unsplash

CATHEDRAL VEIL

A cathedral veil is the ultimate statement veil! They are often 8 feet long, meaning they are even longer than the train of most wedding gowns. These are generally reserved for the most elegant and formal weddings.

A pouf veil is just that: poofy! The tulle is gathered to make a voluminous hairpiece to bring some 60’s-esque flair to your wedding look.

JULIET CAP

The Juliet Cap style is starting to make a resurgence, and we absolutely love it! A Juliet Cap can come in various lengths, but the top of

the veil has an extra piece of fabric to make a sort of cap over the crown of your head and is often embellished with lace and beading.

Luobolinka on Unsplash

Veil Styles MANTILLA VEIL Kelly Sikkema on Unsplash

A Mantilla veil, also known as a Spanish lace veil, is one that features lace all around the edge of the veil. It’s the ultimate romantic veil!

HONEYMOON

a honeymoon checklist

FOR A N Y C LIMAT E

STIL on Unsplash

By Katherine Whitehead

Let’s all admit it - we’ve all day dreamed of how amazing our honeymoon will be someday. The sun, the sand, that crystal blue water and quality time with our hubbies is enough to get every bride excited. From long sunny days with margaritas, polar bear kisses in the snow, or couples massages in the spa, your post-wedding vacay is meant for rest, relaxation and a chance to check out from the real world. Because planning for your big day is an adventure on its own, many brides end up saving the honeymoon prep for last. When deciding what to bring on your honeymoon, it’s easy to become over prepared. We’re often tempted to bring way more than what is necessary and often end up with heavy suitcases full of things we don’t need. Whether you’re soaking up the sun’s rays on a tropical island in paradise or hitting the cold slopes of Aspen, we’ve compiled a list of the ultimate honeymoon must-haves for every destination.

HONEYMOON BASICS · Carry-on · Passport, IDs · Reading material for the flights and during downtime · Laptop, camera, chargers · Toiletries · Pajamas · Lingerie to surprise him on the first night · The perfume that you wore on your wedding day (This will bring back memories for him!) · A special outfit to wear to dinner · Workout Gear · Sunglasses · Guide Book · Language Dictionary · Comfortable clothes to fly home in

T | W · 130

WARM WEATHER HONEYMOON · Sunhat · Bathing suits for the beach and pool · Sunscreen · Small cooler for keeping a few bottles of water, beer, champagne, etc., for when you head out to the beach if your accommodations don’t provide something for you to use. · Speaker to take to the beach · Comfortable shoes (sandals or Chaco’s for walking)

COLD WEATHER HONEYMOON · Winter hat · Heavy coat (Patagonia makes great ones) · Thick sweaters · Jeans · Socks - Our favorite are J. Crew’s Camp Socks · Boots for hiking - L.L. Bean Boots are a classic
