A Kaleidoscope Crafted Wedding featuring Craft Brew Coffee The moment we first connected with Elizabeth from Kaleidoscope Craft Brew Coffee, we were smitten. Their delicious Craft Brew Coffee and their charming, vintage beverage trucks were a perfect fit for many of our engaged couples! We are so excited to share their story and this special Kaleidoscope Crafted Wedding.

Tell us a little about yourself and how your company started. “We’re a couple of dreamers who have often ventured down the road less traveled. Before we met, Chris had left his American life and moved to Australia to pursue graduate school in architecture. Meanwhile, I (Elizabeth) had moved to Haiti to begin a therapy clinic for children with special needs. This road less traveled has led us to many great adventures. Early in our marriage, we had been tinkering with coffee on the side while working our steady jobs, when Chris had that spark in him that said, “I think there’s a better way to do this.” He started experimenting on a small scale with new ways of coffee brewing. His goal was to create a craft cold coffee that was crisp, refreshing, and full of flavor. One day, he came to me with a huge smile on his face, and with a twinkle in his eyes, he said, “Babe. I did it.” A handful of years into marriage and now with two small children in tow, we left our jobs, sold our dream house, and officially launched Kaleidoscope. Now our Craft Brew Coffee is being sold in cans at retailers all over the St. Louis area, served in restaurants on draft and in coffee cocktails, and shipped all over the United States. We’ve had a blast bringing our trucks out to events across the city and witnessing awesome “first-taste reactions” with people at events like Taste of St. Louis, Sauce Magazine’s Food Truck Friday in Tower Grove Park, the Maplewood Coffee Crawl, Eckert’s Pumpkin Jamboree, among others, as well as private events!“

40 Years and 4 Generations It started with a passion and a dream. 40 years ago Clarice Creech opened her doors and welcomed her first bride to be into Clarice’s Bridal Fashions on Elchelberger Avenue in 1979 in the Holly Hills neighborhood. Her first bridal salon was 800 square feet. Clarice continue to establish her footprint in St. Louis with her daughter Sue Caito at her side..

They out grew their first location and moved to Hampton Village Shopping Center and for the first time had two locations. The second in Oakville Shopping Center. Clarice continued to ad designers to her collection and again realized the need for a larger space. After 37 years of helping brides navigate thru their “I Do” Journey they moved into their current 6000 square foot location at 5717 South Lindbergh.

Clarice’s granddaughter Katie loved spending time with her grandmother and being at the shop as often as she could. Despite popular belief, women are not the only ones who stress and ponder about what to wear to an event, especially one this important. And sometimes, it’s even more confusing for the guys when it comes to what attire is technically appropriate. We’ve broken down each dress code below, so you will know exactly how to dress for every occasion!

BLACK TIE A tuxedo is a must! This includes the black dinner jacket, matching pants, a white formal shirt, and a black bow tie or long black tie. You may also choose to either wear a black cummerbund or vest. Both are not required, but at least one is. A tuxedo is not just for the groom either at a black tie wedding. All men in attendance are expected to don the classic tux. Even though this isn’t the average look for weddings anymore, it is totally classic and oh so handsome! BLACK TIE OPTIONAL While a tuxedo is still appropriate and preferred, a formal dark suit will suffice here as well! Keep it in the colors of black or dark gray with clean, sharp lines. Basically, a suit that resembles a tux, but isn’t. When the majority of the guest count is wearing a tuxedo, you definitely don’t want to be the one standing out. We would also still keep a tie for a totally dapper look.

COCKTAIL/SEMI-FORMAL With this style, you can be more relaxed! No tuxedos necessary. However, let’s not go overboard. It’s still a wedding at the end of the day! You can now veer into different colors like navy or a lighter gray for your chosen color of suit. Bow-ties and bold dress socks can be fun additions to an otherwise simple look and for a pop of personality too! To create a seamless look for the entire wedding party, a good rule of thumb is if the bridesmaids are in a more formal dress, it’s best to also have the groomsmen match the quality. You don’t want one more formal than the other especially looking back in your photos! CASUAL While this doesn’t mean show up in your old jeans, it is a more laid-back look! We’ve seen guys in suspenders (hello vintage inspired soirees!), khakis with a loose flowing white shirts for destination weddings, and even tan suits for spring affairs. With a casual dress code, you have more liberty to play towards your wedding theme too! For guests, we say take a cue from the location of the wedding to get the best idea of what is more appropriate. What necessarily is great for a barn wedding may not work for a tropical wedding.

10 Tips for Creating Your

1. CARRY ON THE THEME

This is a wonderful opportunity to expand the theme of your wedding and give your guests a little sneak peak into the celebrations!

2. DON’T INCLUDE EVENTS NOT EVERYONE IS PRIVY TO Such as your bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner, etc. Your guests are excited to be there for you, so there isn’t a need to include events they may not be invited to.

6. DON’T RELY ON GUESTS TO RSVP ONLINE

Some guests might RSVP online, however, a majority probably won’t, especially if they are an older crowd. It’s better to be safe than sorry and stick with the good ol’ formal paper RSVPs.

7. GIVE THEM THE DETAILS

Think of this as the who, what, and where section. Be sure to include a basic timeline, the dress code, and any pertinent info from the venue like parking.

3. PERSONALIZE IT

This is your chance to brag about your proposal or how we met story! Even if everyone’s heard it already, they are excited about the wedding and on your website to learn more about celebrating you! So, give them what they want — that being a sweet love story!

4. KEEP IT SIMPLE

However, don’t have them reading a novel either. Guests do want to read all about your relationship, your wedding party, and the info, but too much will bog them down. Keep it short and sweet as much as you can. You can run a little longer in your “About Us” section, but when introducing your wedding party stick to a couple of quick facts.

5. INCLUDE DIRECTIONS & TRAVEL

For any destination wedding or when your guest list has a lot of out of towners, you need to include some details on where to go and how to get there! Nothing is worse than being in a new city for an event, and not having a clue about where you’re going! Relieve some of the stress for your out of town guests by being a local travel guide via your wedding website. Include directions, whether that is step by step or a Google map link set straight to your venue, and any necessary travel info such as road closures or busy traffic times. Don’t forget to add some cool things they can check out and do while in town, too!

8. INCLUDE SOCIAL MEDIA

This is a great chance to include your wedding hashtag! Or let your guests know that your ceremony is unplugged.

9. CREATE A WEDDING EMAIL FOR ALL QUESTIONS TO BE DIRECTED TO This is a must when wedding planning in general! However, creating a wedding email that is included on your website is great for when you don’t want your personal inbox full from wedding questions!

WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER ABOUT YOUR WEDDING DAY THAT WAS PARTICULAR SPECIAL? Richard had come to my mother’s house to get dressed and for some reason I went onto the church and Richard couldn’t find the rings, he had wrapped them in tissue. My Mother had picked up the tissue with the rings in it and thrown them in the trash. Richard was in a panic and was almost late to the ceremony. Our wedding cake came from White Baking Company of Missouri in St. Louis. Richard had taken on a second job working at The White Baking Company of Missouri so I could have the wedding cake I had always wanted. Because he worked there it only cost us $2.55, it was beautiful and so delicious. On Friday after work Richard picked up our wedding cake for our Saturday evening ceremony & reception, put it in the trunk of his car and drove it from St. Louis to Mt. Vernon; I was a nervous wreck it would arrive still standing and assembled! DID YOU GO ON A HONEYMOON, IF SO WHERE AND WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT? Yes, We took a 4 day road trip, because Richard had to get back to work in St. Louis. We spent the first night in Big Springs, MO in the Ozarks and then spent the other nights at Lake Taneycomo, MO. The hotel manager wouldn’t rent us a room until we showed him our marriage certificate. “I guess he thought we were too young to be married.” We just spent time laughing, being newlyweds and exploring the Ozarks. We have never stopped traveling. We have been to 82 countries and every state in the US. WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR SECRET TO BEING MARRIED FOR 65 YEARS? A lot of patience and taking a trip each year for just the two us. It was our way of keeping the love & romance in our marriage. ANY ADVICE FOR NEW COUPLES? Show kindness to your spouse and remember the reasons you two fell in love and always be a good listener.

WHERE DID YOU GET MARRIED? We were married at 2nd Baptist Church in Richmond Heights. We are still members today. WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER ABOUT YOUR WEDDING DAY? As a girl, I dream about my wedding day and the day was as wonderful as I had imagined. I come from a large family, who love to dance. We danced all night to a live band. It was like a dream. Our wedding cake was very unique at the time. It had three tiers, and each tier had two hearts that joined together. DID YOU GO ON A HONEYMOON? We visited New York City. It was really fun and exciting. We made sure to watch a Broadway play, and we visited several museums. WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR SECRET TO BEING MARRIED FOR ALL THIS TIME? It has been extremely important for us to commumicate with each other. We make sure to listen and speak our desires clearly. We also made an effort do things together. ANY ADVICE FOR NEWLYWEDS TODAY? Be patient with each other. HOW DID YOU CELEBRATE YOUR ANNIVERSARY? When you make it to 50 years, you need to celebrate. We celebrated at Andre’s at Fox Run with 115of our friends and family. The food was delicious! My favorite part was spending the night dancing, just like we did at our reception. Complete Weddings + Events did a wonderful job photographing our celebration. WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE MEMORIES FROM THE LAST 50 YEARS?. We took a long trip around our 5th anniversary. We spent three months backpacking around Europe. H: HOLD OFF ON CHOOSING A THEME While it may be tempting to pick out a theme for your big day right away, try to hold off until you have your venue locked down. Fitting a theme to your venue will be much easier than fitting a venue to your theme. It is also important to remember that with the right planner any space can be transformed. Who says your bohemian wedding dreams can’t come to life in eclectic ballroom? I: INSIDER INSIGHTS There are so many venues to choose from! If you don’t know where to start, ask people you know if they have any recommendations. You can also search popular wedding professional sites for a lengthy list of reviews. Getting a wide range of reviews will help you get a better idea of what your wedding day will really be like. J: JUST IN CASE IT RAINS Even if you have crossed your fingers for nothing but clear skies and sunshine, mother nature may not corporate. It is important to talk with your venue coordinator about a contingency plan in the unlikely event that it rains. Let’s get real - we all want that fairytale wedding. For most of us that means celebrating our love with those closest to us and kissing our sweetheart at the altar. Although the image may seem picture-perfect, the process can oftentimes get overwhelming. Whether your big day is weeks, months, or a year away, it’s important to keep in mind what things can make or break your big day. Here are ten things to keep your race to the finish line smooth and stress-free.

PROVIDE A DETAILED DESCRIPTION When it comes to your wedding invitations, it’s important to be as detailed as possible. While you may be soaking up your wedding day bliss, guests can get left in the background. There’s nothing worse than having your guests arrive too early or late because they couldn’t find the location of your big day. Even worse is to have them standing around waiting for the ceremony and reception to start. Try to provide a detailed itinerary of how the day will go so you don’t leave your friends and family out of the loop. This will help make your big day easy to navigate for local and out-of-town guests!

BE REALISTIC ABOUT YOUR ATTENDEE NUMBER We’ve all heard the stats that 10 percent of people you invite to your wedding won’t be able to come - and up to 20 percent for a destination wedding. While those numbers seem likely, there’s no certainty that it will be the case for your big day. Many of us will be tempted to over invite and may end up with either too many or too little guests. Try to keep your guest list within the venue capacity and be sure to check in with guests as the date approaches to get an estimate of what to expect.

MAKE PLANS AFTER SETTING A BUDGET It may not be romantic to think about, but setting a budget is one of the most vital parts of wedding preparation. Some couples make the mistake of booking without having the money conversation. Before you get started making plans on where and when, be sure you have a set budget with some extra wiggle room for any unexpected costs that may come down the road.

DON’T BUY YOUR DRESS FIRST Don’t make the mistake of booking a rustic barn wedding after you’ve purchased a ballgown dress. While it may be tempting to immediately purchase a dress after the engagement - it can be tricky to match your frock to the location of your big day. Make sure you have either booked or chosen a venue so you have a general idea of what to look for when you go dress shopping.

DO A HAIR AND MAKEUP TRIAL One of the best ways to save some time on your wedding day is to book a hair and makeup trial with the person who is going to do it the day of, or at a salon that has experience in the bridal world. This will help nail down what you do and don’t like so you don’t end up feeling indecisive about your day of look.

MAKE A RAIN PLAN If you’re planning on having an outdoor wedding, it is vital to have a rain plan. Even if the forecast looks bright, you can never be certain about what may happen the day of. Talk to your venue about what options there are should unexpected weather occur, and if there can be a backup if things get too washed out.

HIRE A VIDEOGRAPHER Don’t let one of your budget regrets be not hiring a videographer. When it comes to nixing the unnecessaries this often gets taken off the list. It may not seem necessary to book someone to film your wedding, but we guarantee that it will be worth it in the end. Videographers can capture your big day in intimate detail, and even get a few things you didn’t even know happened on camera. Maybe it’s your grandparents reaction to seeing you walk down the aisle, or maybe it’s your spouse as he waits for you to walk into the ceremony. Having your day filmed is a great way to ensure your memories are captured forever - and not on your friend’s cell phones.

TIME YOUR VOWS Try to schedule your vows around what time is good for photos. This usually means late in the evening during nature’s ‘golden hour’ just before the sun sets. Spending time with your photographer planning what time of day will make for the best shots and create a photo timeline so you know when to pause to get those photos your friends will be falling head over heels for.

STEP OUTSIDE YOUR COMFORT ZONE It’s common for couples to be set on a specific or set of traditions for their wedding. While that does work for some people, don’t be afraid to try something new and different. Personalizing your wedding day tradition doesn’t mean you gave to make major changes either. If you’re getting married in the same location as your parents or are dancing to that song that’s been passed down for generations, try adding your own twist on it to make it your own.

How to Write a

GRACIOUS THANK YOU NOTE By Katherine Whitehead

In the age of technology, many of us underestimate the power of a handwritten letter. Though it may be easier to send a text or even say it in person, pulling out that old pen and stationery is one of the most thoughtful ways to show someone you care. It may seem a little daunting to perfect that penmanship again, but trust us, when you follow these tips, your wedding guests will be falling head over heels with your graciousness!

Use Stationery: Now is not the time to use the leftover notebook paper from your college days. You don’t have to splurge on expensive stationery from a paper store, but you should definitely try to choose embossed cards with matching envelopes. Handwrite: A handwritten thank you is the best way to go when it comes to the look of your notes. Taking the time to carefully write a letter goes much further than a printed document ever could because it shows that it is more sincere and thoughtful. Personalize: When writing the notes be sure to personalize it for each receiver. The last thing you want to do is send a “fill in the blank” message to everyone and have it come back to you later. Think of the way you would talk to the family member or friend in person,

and make it feel conversational to them, letting your own personality shine through. Additionally, instead of saying “thank you for x gift”, let them know how you plan on using the item. For example, if a friend gives you a cooking set, say something like, “My husband and I loved the cookware. We can’t wait to use it for the family dinner next week!” Send it: A general rule of thumb is to try to mail your thank you notes within three months. However, remember that getting them done is the most important thing, so if you’re already past the three month mark, don’t worry! It’s always better to send them than not. It’s best to adhere to the “One Year Rule”. This means that if the event happened within the year, it’s still okay to send a letter of thanks.

Ramble: Yes, you may be excited to officially be married and you may have had an amazing honeymoon that you want to tell the world about, but don’t go on and on about it in the note. It’s usually best to keep thank you notes brief. If you want to discuss with that person further, save it for a phone call or in person. Refer to Money: If someone gifted money, it’s important to never acknowledge the specific amount in the note. Although you may be raving about their generosity, they don’t want to be called out for the dollars they spent for you. Thank you notes relating to monetary gifts are best kept general and straight to the point. It is okay, however, to acknowledge the gift and mention that you plan on putting it to good use - without going into specifics.

Assume: It can be easy to think that an in-person thank you is enough. Even if you did say thank you to people at your reception, sending a thank you note is the least you can do for people who came out to your wedding and were kind enough to provide a gift. It is important to remember as well that even if someone came and did not give anything they should still receive a note for their time spent attending your wedding. Become Overwhelmed: We get it – writing thank you notes can be a lengthy process, especially if you have a large amount of guests on your big day. If you feel like it’s becoming too much, step back, relax and breathe. Ask your spouse to join in so it can be something you can do together as a couple, because let’s not forget - the gift was for both of you! the bride doesn’t have to be the only one that sends thank you’s!
