Elizabeth Scaperoth & Daniel Wiseman 05.14.11 Love Story: For Daniel and I to end up together, the timing had to be just right. We grew up just a few miles from one another and had a lot of the same friends, but we somehow never crossed paths. My best friend introduced us by saying, “you guys already know each other, right?” We both knew something was different right away, but neither of us was looking for someone. In fact, I had a nomination to the Peace Corps, and I thought I would be in the Ukraine for 2 years, so the LAST thing I needed was a new relationship! The crazy thing is, I think that somehow allowed us to end up as partners for life. We treated the relationship casually at first because I was leaving, allowing us to be uncharacteristically open with each other. I ended up choosing him over the Ukraine, and I don’t regret it for a second. He’s my favorite person in the whole world and makes me laugh every minute I’m with him. The day he asked me to marry him was one of the most amazing days of my life. I had just arrived home from a trip so I was blind sided! In front of a fountain in St Louis he got down on one knee and presented me with the most amazing ring. It’s an antique wedding band with an inscription on the inside from the original couple it belonged to. It says “FG to AP 4-17-31.” I love wearing a ring that represents someone else’s love as well as ours. The Details: I am a pretty crafty person so I wanted to do a lot of things myself. I wanted a rustic but elegant aesthetic that would fit well with the beauty of the botanical gardens. We really didn’t decorate for the ceremony at all because the grounds are so lovely. My aunt made a wreath of baby’s breath for my flower girl’s head and that was enough for me. For the reception, I focused most of my decor on the tables which consisted of mixed milk glass vases that I collected over the year, burlap table cloths, vintage doilies and some wooden elements. I had my friends Sara Kate and Aliya put together the centerpieces the day of. They bought the flowers and just intuitively created the beautiful vignettes that I couldn’t have been more happy with. They even spread my late grandmother’s collection of buttons around the centerpieces. It was beautiful. My favorite space in the whole reception was a seating area my dad created by using stumps for chairs (brought from his house). The cozy spot was surrounded by twinkle lights hanging between wooden posts he had made. I wasn’t concerned with every little detail, but instead I tried to create a really memorable, but easy space.

Q. When do I pay for my wedding cake? Before you make it or once it is delivered to the location for the wedding? A. Well Alia take all of the money up front. This is also a great thing to do because that means you have one less thing to worry about the day of the wedding. You don’t want to have to run around chasing people down about money on this special day.

Advice from A Thyme to Cook:

Be sure to talk to your baker. Be clear on what you want. The more details you can provide the easier the cake decorating will be.

7 The

Shoes

- Photographs and Article Supllied by Arline Beets of Ace Photography -

Stories like Cinderella confirm to us shoes are not only cool, they are an important part of the wedding day. On our wedding day we will probably wear the most expensive dress we will ever wear, so of course accessories, like shoes, are important. Wedding shoes used to be plain, low healed, white and sometimes boring. After all, most people thought they would never be seen. Now they are supposed to be seen. Shoes are a great way to express your personality and creativity. The most obvious trend was the pop of color we saw peaking out from under the white dresses. Wedding shoes can be any color now. The “Sex and the City” movie helped popularize the “something blue” shoe which we saw a lot of the last few years. Shoes can match the color of the wedding scheme, be the color of a favorite sports team, or be multicolored. Low heels, high heels, sandals, wedges, flip flops, and even boots have been popular. Some brides say they spent longer looking for their shoes than the dress. One of our beautiful brides, loved her shoes so much she had a replica of her shoe in pink icing on top of her cake. Trends for 2012 continue from last year with a few more neutrals and metallics. Bling, which never really went out of style, has returned full force. Vintage style, lace and embossed patterns that we have been seeing in the dresses are showing up in the shoes.. Platform shoes return from the 70′s with a modern twist. If the groom is much taller than the bride this is a great equalizer. If you are getting married in the near future make sure you say yes to to a great pair of shoes. Popular designers for wedding shoes include, Jimmy Choo, Steve Madden, Stuart Weitzman Martinez Valero, Badgley Mischka, Christian Louboutin, Benjamin Adams, Aldo Tavera, Nina Critia, Ivanka Trump, Betsey Johnson, Kate Spade, Manolo Blahnik ,Jodie Frangiq, Sam Edelman, Fifi, Boutique 9, Seychelles and of course Prada. Nothing makes a girl feel better than a great pair of shoes. Consider websites like Zappos.com and Endless.com , andStylehive.com. Many bridal dress salons also carry a great selection of shoes in the seasons hottest styles and colors. Bring your shoes to the dress fitting to make sure the length of the dress works with the shoes. Remember getting married is a marathon event. Make sure you love the comfort as well as the style. Heel height is important. If you don’t normally wear a higher heel, you might want to have a pair of flats for the reception This should be a happy day, don’t let shoes make it miserable. Remember on your wedding day you will be on your feet all day. If you can wear your shoes during a bridal portrait session or for several hours one day you will get a better idea how comfortable they are. Pick a shoe that fits your personality, style, and wedding and you will be glad to paid attention to the details.

A pair if shoes can change your life, just ask Cinderella.
