Jenna McKee & Max Zarchin 01.16.10 Tell about your love story: My father-in-law is proud to say he introduced us. I am a former tv news reporter and my father in law has worked in TV nearly his entire life. So, when I needed a little career advice I called him up to talk. Little did I know, my life was about to change. He told me he was happy to help me out and in the meantime, he said,” you should meet my son.” Max and I still can’t agree whether or not our first time meeting was supposed to be a date, but less than a year later we were engaged. So, maybe that was my father-in-law’s intention the entire time... big day: We had to fight back tears for the loved ones who weren’t there to share the best day of our lives with us. My dad died when I was only two, but we all knew he would have the best seat in the house for his only daughter’s wedding. For me, having my brother walk me down the aisle in what would have been my dad’s place will always be a special memory. I will also always remember the look on Max’s face when I walked down the aisle. I felt like the most loved woman on the planet. I still can’t help but feel flutters every time I replay that moment in my mind. There were lots of smiles from everyone at our reception! We loved watching Max’s 86 year old grandmother bust a move out on the dance floor. We were all hoping she would be in good enough health to do the Charleston that she is famous for. Thankfully, she put us all to shame. The wedding planning process: My mom had only one request: one year to plan. One of my vendors gave me a Pink Book (thank goodness). I was able to keep track of the millions of things running around in my head. We worked with J Botanica from day one to pin down our exact vision. They were so wonderful about making sure Max was included in the planning of the details because it is his day too! While our parents were running around like crazy with us for the months before the wedding, Max was really passionate about our moms being able to just enjoy our wedding day. That’s where the professional and passionate team of A Magical Affair really saved the day. I can’t stress enough the importance of having someone in charge on that day so that you and your family can JUST HAVE FUN! Our search for a photographer was the most important one we made. Max and I wanted to work with someone who could incorporate the traditional elements our parents wanted but that could create pieces of art for us. That’s just what Ace delivered; our photos are both timeless and contemporary, a blend that’s tough to achieve. COVER shot: The picture in the pink boots is so special to me. This was taken during my bridal portrait shoot at my great grandmother’s farm. She had 17 children and I am one of her nearly 60 great grandchildren. Generation after generation will tell you that some of their best memories of childhood are running up and down those very steps where I’m sitting and out into the 200 acre farm to play.

Jodi Lindsey & Brian Ham April 16, 2011 Photography by Skipper Photography

the big day: Our wedding day turned out to be cold and rainy, but I was determined to get married outside. So we improvised and set up the chairs along the back deck and set immediate family chairs under the deck. Pat, Brian, and myself ventured out into the misting rain and in a very quick ceremony were married the only way I would do it, outside! I was surprisingly calm the day of our wedding even with the weather, I didn’t have a reason to cry all day. Watching my 4 year old cousin dance made me laugh and still makes me laugh right now. He was the best entertainment we could have asked for. My dad walking me down the aisle and shaking Brian’s hand while saying “good luck” also makes me laugh, because my dad is right, he will need it. We ended up completely forgetting the boutonnieres and mother of the bride and grooms flowers in all of the excitement and we didn’t even remember until everyone was packing up at the end of the night. We didn’t plan for rain because I was determined to get married outside either way. If you go this route just make sure that your father, fiance, and officiant are in on the plan as well or you may be the only one standing in the rain. I was lucky that everyone went along with me without complaints. One more thing that we did not plan for was the wedding location, because of the weather we moved the wedding from the field in the valley to the back area around the deck. We also made sure that we got to go caving on our wedding day. We grabbed our photographers, my dad and a couple of friend to go down to Adwell Cave and snap a couple of shots. That was a must for our wedding day. the details: Our vision was to create non traditional outdoorsy wedding. Brian and I are both very adventurous. One of our main hobbies together is caving, so we decided to get married at Hamilton Valley Cave Research Foundation. The wedding planning process: Brian proposed on our six year anniversary and we were married on our seven year anniversary. We just wanted a very small wedding. The most important things to me were the photos, the cake, and the honeymoon. We sat down with the girls at the Bake Shoppe and designed a nature themed wedding cake inspired by a Martha Stewart cake I found online. We looked everywhere for the perfect wedding photographers and found Skipper Photography at a wedding expo. We met up at Rosepepper Mexican restaurant and hit it off immediately. We had our engagement shoot and we loved every minute of it...it was like we were just hanging out with friends all day. We enlisted a new friend we meet while getting scuba certification to take care of all the honeymoon plans, so that was another important thing checked off the list. Finally, we asked a long time friend to get ordained and she agreed.

Kelienne Verdier & Justin Kalk September 25, 2010 Photography by Eden Frangipane

your love story: I love mine and Justin’s wedding story! We met in 7th grade science class from a small town in Maryland. He sat in front of me. We went through middle school and high school together as friends but never anything more, he told me after we started dating that he loved me from day one, which his mother backed up. We played in middle and high school Jazz band and senior year we were in the year book together as “Most Musical” Once we graduated, we went our separate ways, I went to the University of Tennessee and Justin went to Boston’s Berklee College of Music. Four years later, we were both were home in Maryland for the summer. We reunited at a friends BBQ and the rest is history. I moved to Nashville to finish my undergraduate at Belmont. Justin being a musician, decided Nashville would be a good place to live and moved down shortly after I did. Three years later we were engaged. THe big day: Before the wedding once I was dressed and ready, my grandparents who flew from France came in my dressing room. I am so close to them (I am their only grandchild) and it meant so much to me that they were able to make such a big trip. When the three of us saw each other, we broke down and sobbed. It was one of the most touching points of the day. I felt so loved and so happy they could share my day and I know they felt the same. My most memorable moments were when I saw Justin for the first time that day. We decided to do our photos before the wedding because we wanted to have our moment together just the two of us and we wanted our photographer to capture that. I also loved our ceremony. With the help of Rev. Lynn Jacobs we wrote the ceremony ourselves. We made it exactly how we wanted and it made it so special. We loved our officiant. Parts that made us laugh. We brought one of our favorite band from Maryland “SHOOK” down for the reception. They are the most fun, young dance band. After the dinner everyone was able to completely let loose and dance, which we did for several hours. I laughed the whole time. The wedding planning process: Justin and I were engaged just over a year. Justin and I planned most of our wedding ourselves because we were having a Nashville wedding while both our families are from Maryland. Justin and I really wanted our wedding to be a true reflection of us and we knew that wouldn’t have been possible if the wedding was in Maryland, while living in Nashville. Besides our life together began in Nashville, this is where we truly fell in love.

Erica Ross & Martez Jackson September 26, 2010 Photography by Forever Images

our love story: We met at work in 2007. My weaknesses are his strengths and vice versa, so we balance each other out. He proposed on Christmas day 2009 at Opryland hotel. The funny part about that is we had a big argument earlier that morning. the big day: The most anticipated moment of my wedding day was seeing Martez after they opened the church doors. The vows brought tears to my eyes. My favorite wedding moment was when Martez got emotional during his vows. As I was walking down the aisle, I was nervous, my dad had to tell me to slow down. the details: I didn’t have a theme but wanted a romantic atmosphere. My colors were chocolate, champagne, and cappuccino. Brown is one of my favorite colors and seeing Sara Marie’s dresses at the bridal convention confirmed my ideas. The guest’s favors were the family’s DIY project. My something blue was my shoes. Our cake? We had alternating tiers of strawberry almond and vanilla. The wedding planning process: We were engaged for nine months. My favorite part about planning my wedding was when my sister came to Nashville to help me tie up loose ends. After problems with my first coordinator, my sister was a great help. I’ve dubbed her the “internet guru.” She found (via the net) many of the wonderful vendors that helped make our day a success. Special thanks to our family, friends, and all those who had a hand in making our wonderful day so beautiful. Marriage and advice: I am most looking forward to a lifetime of happiness with my best friend. We got to spend our honeymoon in Ireland!

to Make the Most

WAYS

of Bridal Shows

Your engaged and now it is time to start planning… you’re in luck! New brides-to-be can gear up for bridal show season. With so many things to see and vendors to talk to, wedding shows can be overwhelming and feel a bit like, well the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. Savvy brides see through the chaos and making the most of what bridal shows have to offer by way of inspiration, advice and vendor giveaways. With these 7 tips, you can too!

•1•

Come Prepared. The boy scouts were on to something here… Make sure you have the essentials. Have a pen to take notes and sign up for all the wedding day give-aways. Better yet, pre-print mailing labels with your name, phone number, email and wedding date to save a ton of time. Also, remember to bring your camera to capture a the wedding inspiration on display… vendors are putting their best decorating foot forward and you will want to remember all that you saw.

•2•

Don’t eat (a lot!) before you come. Weddings have food and so do wedding shows. Caterers and bakers use this opportunity to showcase great samples of their food so hold off on lunch & come hungry!

•3•

Leave the little ones at home. Children have small attention spans and even with all the cake samples, will quickly lose interest becoming dead weight. It is distracting to have fussy or bored children (or adults!) in your party while you are walking the show floor and trying to talk with vendors. Think carefully about who will join you on wedding show day.

•4•

Do your homework. It’s worthwhile to familiarize yourself with the services you are still seeking, what questions to ask and who is exhibiting at the show. This helps to maximize the time you have at each booth which can sometimes be limited with busy shows and popular vendors. Having other details such as your wedding date or budget mapped out, are also helpful… you don’t want to fall in love with a vendor only to find out that they are booked on your wedding date or out of your price range.

•5•

Come ready to make a deal. Many of the vendors will offer show-only discounts and specials for brides ready to book. If you have done your research and have your checkbook in hand, the savings will add up fast. Keep in mind that vendors are not as busy during the fashion show so if you have you dress, use this time to talk one-on-one.

•6•

These boots are made for comfort. Remember the show floor is big with lots of walking on so leave the heels for later that night and wear comfy shoes!

•7•

FREE tickets! Many local vendors are given free show tickets to hand out to perspective brides that they would like to personally invite to the show. If you plan to set up meetings with vendors before the show, make sure to ask if they will have a booth and you just may get free tickets. Don’t miss the next Nashville Pink Bridal Shows Sunday, August 14, 2011 & Sunday, January 8, 2012 Visit www.ThePinkBride.com for more details.

Xian ho & Sam ling 08.28.10 the proposal story: It was my birthday, and to make things special, Sam drove me to Leiper’s Fork, one of our favorite biking destinations, to celebrate with a proper meat-n-three dinner and a weekly singer-songwriter open mic event that we had been meaning to go to. When we got to Leiper’s Fork, we ordered our meals and sat down to enjoy the open mic at Puckett’s Gro. After listening to a couple of singer-songwriters jam their hearts out, Sam suggested that we go outside to check on Remo (our nearly 1-year-old lab hound pup) whom we had brought along for the occasion. Things happened pretty quickly after that: Remo pooped. Sam picked it up, then poured kibble into Remo’s food bowl. And then as Remo scarfed down his kibble, suddenly Sam whipped out a ring with a shiny ruby from his pocket (originally his mom’s) and said, “Would it be okay if I asked you to marry me?” (Flashback: Seven years ago, Sam had asked me, “Would it be okay if I kissed you?”) I sputtered ‘Lesss!!’ (an inside joke probably not worth explaining) and then broke into tears. After I wiped her tears and gathered myself, Sam asked, “Wait, is that a yes?” “Yeah, ok,” I replied. Technically, Sam never did ask. the details: We went with a backyard theme for our wedding. Sam and I share a common aesthetic, so it was not too difficult to agree on the details that fit our vision. We both really enjoy making things from scratch; we handpicked/concocted/canned small jars of blackberry-mint jam distributed as wedding favors, made all the terrariums used as centerpieces, and designed our save-the-dates and invitations (printed by Isle of Printing). I was almost going to do my own hair, but my bridesmaids “forced” me not to (luckily). We were engaged for 14 months. We did not hire a planner because it was important to us that our wedding was “handmade.” We chose to work with people we just genuinely liked and thought we could work well with. the big day: My parents almost forgot to walk me down the aisle and there is some photo footage of them running up the aisle to meet me as one of my bridesmaids is walking down the aisle...Best man started bleeding from touching his pocket knife, a groomsman gift...Cousin’s young daughter locked herself in the bathroom by accident for a while...MOH announced that she was pregnant with champagne in hand...Dad’s speech included a bit about Sam being “version 2.0” of himself...All of these moments, and many more, were memorable, laughable, cryable, and certainly unexpected. Marriage and advice: Advice on wedding planning: Choose 3 things that matter the most to you about your wedding and don’t ever lose sight of them. (Also, those 3 things should be: food, booze, and dancing.) I was surprised to find that I kind of like my husband more now that we’re married.

WEDDING VENDORS

You’ve got questions and I have answers to your most common questions when booking and working with your wedding vendors. Let’s cut through the red tape and get to planning! by Pink Lady Krista at ThePinkBook.com

1

I ‘m getting overwhelmed by all these wedding emails! What can I do?

2

Is it appropriate to let vendors know that you have booked someone else?

3

Is it true that vendors charge more when it’s a wedding?

4

My wedding vendor is not returning my calls and I’m not happy with their services! Isn’t that a breach of contract?!

First things first... set up a separate email account for your wedding planning. This will keep emails separate from your personal account and once you’re married, you can simply stop checking it. Check out MyBridemail for a wedding specific email service. What not to do? Don’t report the email as spam unless you are sure that it is. If you no longer wish to receive emails from a vendor, simply unsubscribe from the email (at the bottom of nearly all email newsletters) or contact the vendor directly asking to be removed from their list. Reporting an email as spam can limit a vendors ability to email other brides and grooms that want the information.

Absolutely! Letting a vendor know that you have decided to go with another vendor is definitely a good idea. Not only will this stop email follow-up but vendors are able to release a date to other couples looking to book. Sending a short email will generally do the trick. If you feel so inclined giving a reason on why they weren’t the right fit vendor is normally appreciated as well. Professional wedding vendors want to know how they can better serve future brides and grooms!

The answer is often yes... and it should be. While this may not seem fair, the difference in the amount of work related to a wedding vs. other social functions or corporate events is fairly significant. Often an event of similar size and budget for a retirement party or family reunion will require a third of the email and phone correspondence as a wedding. Corporate clients are even less and rarely ask for tastings, multiple meetings outside business hours and numerous proposals adjustments. All this increases the overall time a vendor spends when working with brides and grooms and since time is money, weddings cost more. If this still doesn’t seem right, ask your vendors to explain why they charge more. They should be able to explain why so it makes sense to their clients. If not... go with a vendor that has fair pricing policies.

Ideally, no bride or groom would ever have to deal with a poor performance by a wedding vendor, during or after the planning process. While I am not a legal expert, I have been on the both sides of this fence. Before you do anything, take a good look at the contract and cancellation fees. While few contracts will address customer service, a client always reserves the right to cancel their agreement. This will likely result in a loss of your initial deposit and could send you on a frantic last minute hunt for a vendor. Instead, I suggest sitting down with your vendor for a heart to heart on your concerns. Stay calm and offer suggestions for how your problems can be addressed. Avoid being overly dramatic and attacking a vendor as it will get you nowhere, fast. If possible, ask to work with another employee that might better mesh with you personally or ask to speak with a general manager or owner. If no solution is in sight, follow your gut and find a new vendor. Better to lose a small deposit than have a wedding vendor disaster on your big day. Note: The closest wedding day is, the higher the cancellation fee with likely be. Address your apprehensions when they occur, rather than wait until a budget crunch leaves you little option other than to hope things will work out. Small Claims Court can be some help here but probably not in time for wedding day.

Brittany Bone & scott Oliver October 2, 2010 Photography by Surreal Image Studios

love story: Scott moved from his hometown of Tupelo, MS to Columbia, TN in March 2009 for a job. He had been visiting a few churches and getting acquainted with the new area when he visited my home church. Although he was visiting, I had been going to church with a friend in Franklin. But that didn’t stop my sister and the Pastor’s wife from taking notice of him and setting up a time for us to meet! We met on June 28, 2009 at a cookout at the Pastor’s house. After checking each other out from across the lawn and having our own conversations, we introduced ourselves in the kitchen and talked for two hours together! A few days later we went on our first date, and things continued to progress until 8 months later when Scott proposed! Scott and I like four wheeling trips. And, wanted to propose in his own unpredictable, adventurous way. We went to Prentice Cooper State Forest to ride. He proposed overlooking this beautiful valley and the winding river. It was perfect for us! It was so surreal. I couldn’t believe he was proposing! I even asked Scott, “Are you for real?” After I finally squealed out a “YES!” I couldn’t stop jumping up and down and screaming! Scott made it a special time. the big day: Our wedding day was everything I had hoped it would be. The most memorable moment was probably seeing Scott for the first time. Seeing his radiant smile looking at me in wonder as I walked towards him sent chills up my spine. My eyes were glued on him. The wedding ceremony was such an intimate, serious time between Scott and me. It felt like no one else was around. I loved everyone important in my life witnessing this life-changing promise. Another memorable moment was walking into the reception and seeing the amount of people that came! My jaw dropped to the floor, and I was touched by how many people cared and wanted to be there. However, we ran out of the 300 plates in the first 30 minutes! That definitely wasn’t expected! There was enough food and cake for everyone though! I loved using Surreal Image Studios as my photographers. They were great to work with. I felt very comfortable telling them what I wanted and them being able to capture the moments. Having two photographers was also beneficial. More memories were captured and shared. I appreciated their quality of work, professionalism, as well as being authentic. I would definitely work with them again! Marriage and advice: Don’t get so caught up in the actual wedding day. Realize that this is just the beginning of your lives together. Talk, Talk, Talk!! Communication between one another is vital for a healthy relationship. Don’t leave anything to assumptions because men and women think completely different from each other, and everything must be talked out.

Emily Tarkington & Eric Hermanns April 9, 2011

PHOTOGRAPHY BY Skipper Photography

Emily Tarkington & Eric Hermanns 04.09.11 our love story: Eric and I met five years ago as he was getting ready to move back to California where he is originally from. He didn’t move because he fell in love with me and I with him. Eric popped the question one night after I had a rough day. He was waiting until around Christmas to pop the question but felt I needed some cheering up and this was the perfect time. It was romantic, low-key and at home together. I was so shocked when he said, ”Emily will you marry me”? I saw this beautiful flawless diamond ring reflecting in my eyes...Wow...never thought I was ever going to have something so beautiful and stunning to represent our love and then I noticed I missed the part of this I had waited for my whole life. I didn’t see his lips ask me the most important and question of my life so I said “oh my gosh - um... Can you just ask me One more time”?- Puzzled but willing he did- and you know I said YES! The big day: I was glowing all day mostly from complete happiness but also because we picked the one day in April that was 92 degrees-haha! The happiest moments were when I saw Eric for the first time in the beautiful parlor inside the mansion. I came up behind him and as our eyes meet he said ”Wow- you are the most beautiful girl in the world”- That’s so huge coming from my sweet husband. His eyes were completely filled with joy- I swear I thought I saw a tear- which in our 5 years together had never seen. It was wonderful! I have to say to top it all off my dad drove me down a gravel path while I was sitting on the back of his sea foam green 1955 T-Bird. Dad and I both have a very special bond with this car. He got it when I was in high school and would drive me around in it. Dad has a rule with the car- you can only listen to oldies music in it. Dad and I would drive around town together listening to things like Mustang Sally. So this time we drove down the gravel path as I sat on the back of that old classic T-Bird with my dad and waved at Eric and the rest of my family and friends gathered to see our marriage and we took one more very special ride together! wedding details: My color were crazy but great! They came together so well! Pink, orange and yellow. I love color and wanted to display it in the wedding! My beautiful bridesmaid wore different style black satin dresses with either yellow, orange or pink shoes and amazing flowers to match consisting of brilliant gerber daisies and roses. Eric and I love animals so instead of party favors for our guest we made a donation in their honor to the Sumner Co. Humane Shelter. My veil I wore in the wedding was made by my grandmother Gigi and my mom wore it when she got married too. And my nephew Hunter, the ring bearer, carried all the wedding rings of my grandparents on a silk pillow down with our little flower girl, Bella. As they walked together the said very loudly step together-step together as they had practiced. Bella my flower girl which is 2 years old had been given Cheerios in her flower basket to keep queit during the ceremony. As we walked down the aisle after the ceremony Bella dropped Cheerios out of the basket on the ground and Hunter following behind her bending over and picking each Cheerio up and eating it. It was a very funny! I love those kids!

your love story: On April 28,2010 Rich put flowers on my car with a note that said,”Making you my girlfriend was the best decision I have ever made. Meet me where I asked you.” Which was at his house, when I got there I saw more flowers on the table with another note,” Go to where we first met.” At this time I knew something was going on! When I got to the hair salon there were flowers by the door with the last note,”these are all places from the past now go to where you want to start out future.” Rich knew I had always wanted to get married at my great uncle’s house exactly in between the two trees. Where my mom and dad got married. Sure enough as soon as I got to my great uncles house and started walking in the yard he came out from behind one of the trees and got down on one knee! the big day: Having an outside wedding is very stressful since you never know what the weather is going to do. All week I had been checking the weather and there was only a 20% chance of rain for Saturday. Well, Saturday morning it changed to 80% chance and strong winds. It poured from 8am to 2pm. I never panicked just prayed for it to clear for at least an hour. By 3:00pm everyone was pushing for a back up plan because another storm was on its way. I was at my hair appointment and decided my back up plan was to push it back or start making phone calls to bring umbrellas! I was going to get married between the same trees my parents did rain or shine! My sister and maid of honor started making calls that I was not stressed and that was the plan! The wedding was at 6pm and the rain stopped at 4:30pm. My friends and family put all my chairs up for ceremony and everything at the reception in one hour and thirty minutes. It all looked so beautiful and I will never be able to thank them enough. the details: Our colors were hot pink and white. Having over a year to plan helped me find good prices and do a lot of it myself. I knew I wanted chandeliers more than anything. I had no clue how expensive they were I just knew I was going to make it happen! I looked all over for a cheap chandelier since we were on a budget. I was almost about to give up when my mom’s aunt called from Knoxville. I bought a 5 tier chandelier for 25.00 and it worked! It was brass which was kind of scarey and nobody liked it but me. Rich’s dad helped me paint it white and it was beautiful! Exactly what I wanted! My cousin Amanda helped me make my flower girl outfits to cut cost and I loved them! Marriage and advice: My advice to any bride is don’t stress and enjoy your day...it goes by so fast. If there is something you want for your wedding day, don’t give up until it happens! I promise when its all over, its worth all the hard work!

ocated a short 5 miles from the Hermitage Hotel, sits their 5 acre garden. Within the Glen Leven Estate located on Franklin Road, you can find the hotel’s executive Chef Tyler Brown knee deep in organically grown radishes, carrots, leafy lettuce, fresh herbs and heirloom tomatoes among others. Using this produce he crafts nightly menus for Capitol Grille as well as all the food for the hotels events and weddings. Did you catch that? Locally grown produce and the Hermitage Hotel is heaven for any foodie bride-to-be here in Nashville and beyond. But first, stepping back into the history that has made this Nashville landmark what it is today. The Hermitage Hotel, taking its moniker from Andrew Jackson’s home, was opened to the public in the fall of 1910. Though originally under the name The Hotel Hermitage, luxury would come to define the hotel. Known for superior service, cutting edge culinary creations from Executive Chef Tyler Brown and a deep commitment to the Nashville community, the hotel sets the bar from which all other area hotels and venues aspire. Home to suffragettes of the 20s, socialites and Hollywood elite as well as current day presidential candidates, the hotel celebrated 100 years last fall.

A history not without scandal, the hotel would fall into decline during the 60s and 70s. For a time, developers consider converting the space into an office building but a problem with financing would halt the project. Changing hands during the 80s and 90s, it would be the Historic Hotels of Nashville to save the day, purchasing the property. The hotel has flourished in recent years with their top notch chef, the AAA Five Diamond Award and VIP guests regularly calling 231 Sixth Avenue North home. But it would be a key partnership between the Hermitage Hotel and the Land Trust of Tennessee that brings us to today. In 2008, under the shared goal of sustainability of undeveloped land in Tennessee, the team at the Hermitage Hotel and their hotel guests to collect donations for the Land Trust and their mission. Destiny seemed to be stepping in as Ms. Susan McConnell West had recently willed her historic estate to the Land Trust in 2006. Centrally located near Father Ryan Academy, Glen Leven sits on 66 acres comprising of a mansion, smokehouse, carriage house,

springhouse and farm office. Ms. West’s only decry was that the land was to remain an “open space” maintained in good condition. With this mission in mind, the organization would further their partnership with the Hermitage Hotel, putting Chef Brown and his team in charge of planting and harvesting an organic garden. A little research would reveal Glen Leven to be well matched for the job, having provided produce to the original Maxwell Millennium Hotel until it burned to the ground, Christmas 1961. Ground was broke on the five acre plot early 2009 drawing the support of local gardeners, history buffs, press members and hotel staffers each week to volunteer their time. One season now under their belt, the Hermitage Hotel is excited to continue this partnership well into the future. While much of the summer is spent in horticultural pursuits, hotel guests and brides will benefit from the fruits of their labor with delicious fresh and organic fare. Is the Hermitage Hotel right for your wedding? For the bride looking for the quintessential Nashville wedding, the Hermitage Hotel is it. From the moment you walk into their grand lobby, you are awash in southern hospitality, surround by the architecture of old. Home to three distinct event spaces, weddings of 150ppl or less are an ideal fit. The Veranda with sky high ceiling offers a stunning ceremony space, followed by cocktails in the grand hotel lobby. Dinner and dancing continue in the stately ballroom, with deep wood tones and one of a kind chandeliers. Foodie or not, local produce from the Glen Leven garden makes its way into all event menus. With 122 luxury sleeping rooms and a pet friendly position, your guests will be treated like Nashville royalty. Valet parking is the best option for wedding guests but adds up quickly. Also note that all events have an end time of 11pm to ensure sweet dreams for visiting guests. Generally a Hermitage Hotel wedding will range from $22,000-$30,000 (out the door). For the bride on a budget, the hotel is available for daytime and brunch weddings at a lower rate. For more information on hosting your wedding with the Hermitage Hotel, please contact their event team at catering@ thehermitagehotel.com or (615)345-7107. Bon Appétit!

proposal story: The proposal was the morning of December 22, 2009. We were preparing to fly to New Jersey to spend Christmas with Nick’s family. Nick went to “get the laundry out of the dryer” so that they could pack, when he yelled “jailbreak” (our term for when the dogs escape their area). Hearing the pitter-patter of paws running rampant in the house, I got up to help Nick corral the dogs. Hot Dog came bolting into the bedroom, so I scooped him up and started cuddling with him. Not having her glasses on, Ellie did not initially notice the ring tied to a ribbon on Hot Dog’s collar (or that Nick was patiently waiting on one knee). After a few minutes of cuddling with Hot Dog, I noticed “something” on his collar (but still did not notice that Nick was patiently waiting on one knee). Thinking it was just a bow, I thought it was cute that Nick would send Hot Dog in as a “bon voyage” present (since we were heading to the airport soon). After a few more minutes, the sparkle of the diamonds caught my eye. It was then that I noticed Nick and after the perfect heartfelt proposal, I joyfully accepted. the big day: Our big day was amazing! We wouldn’t change a thing! We laughed hysterically as we danced up the aisle to Notorious BIG’s “Hypnotize.” Everyone had a great time with the photo booth. I cried during my vows and our last dance. Every detail was amazing. the details: We took our color cue from the changing leaves (burgundy, gold, burnt orange). I brought it to life using gorgeous satin linens, and beautiful flowers. My goal was to spend time with all the guests and for everyone to have fun! Having 6 events throughout the course of the wedding weekend really made it possible to spend quality time with everyone. The wedding planning process: We were engaged from December 2009 through the October 10, 2010 wedding. I did all the planning and oversaw every detail. The most important thing for us was to spend time with all the guests and for everyone to have fun. The wedding budget: The original budget was $10,000 (for 125 guests) but we blew that right away. We splurged on the photographers, videographers, and venues. We saved big on invitations and programs, as we bought kits that were on clearance and printed them ourselves. Marriage and advice: Always remember that the MARRIAGE is the important thing (not the WEDDING). Treasure being surrounded by your friends and family on your big day because their presence is a gift. And remember to give back!

BRIDAL MYTHS

Debunked!

Is wedding advice coming at you from every angle? Determine what’s fact and what’s fiction by debunking these common wedding myths.

1

IT’S NOT REALLY A WEDDING IF YOU DON’T FOLLOW TRADITION. The first person to buck tradition and wear white was Queen Victoria (that’s right...brides have not always worn white). This is now taken for granted as standard attire as is a wedding cake, first dance, bouquet toss and something blue. A wedding simply requires an offisciant, license and witness. The celebration of said wedding should be an expression of the couple’s personalities and sometimes breaking the rules leads to new traditions that are a better fit than those of past generations.

4

The Bride’s parents pay for wedding and reception, groom’s parents pay for rehearsal dinner. Wouldn’t it be nice if Mom and Dad still footed the bill but not so with modern weddings. This myth goes out the window as at least a third of wedding costs are now cover by the couple themselves. Families today are pooling their resources and then together, determining how funds are spent for all related events.

2

Thank you notes can be sent by email.

3

THE BRIDE CAN ONLY BE GIVEN AWAY BY HER FATHER.

While email is the preferred way of communication for many a message, it is generally frowned upon when thanking your wedding guests. Hand written thank-you notes are far from out-dated and thought tedious to a generation of texters, it must be done. Appreciate this dying art and take the time to communicate as your grandparents. Years later, a friend will dig out your hand written note, carefully saved. Not your email.

This myth dates back to the days of old, when daughters were literal property of their fathers and a wedding was merely a business deal for Dad to expand his fortunes through the sale of his daughter. While the tradition still sticks to this day, I doubt very much that modern brides would describe themselves as part of dad’s estate. Your aisle escort should be a person that played a significant and supportive role in your path to find true love.

5

WEDDING LUCK (AND MARRIAGE) DEPENDS ON A SIXPENCE, SPIDERS AND SUPERSTITIONS. Here’s the thing about luck... it all depends on the belief that wearing a certain color, carrying a token or changing your behavior will shift future events to their preferred outcome. Luck is mostly used as a way to counter those things completely out of our control and has often been a way of explaining the unexplained. If only making it through the first year of marriage was as easy as saving the top tier of your cake. Make your own luck careful planning, professional vendors and a positive attitude.

6

Vendors will always give a discount if you ask.

7

If you can’t foot the bar bill, offer a cash bar.

Wedding vendors are not Mexican bazaars where you haggle the best possible deal. While a vendor may run a promotion, expecting to get a discount because you’re a bride is like expecting your doctor to run a special because you’re a patient. This doesn’t make long-term business sense. Instead, plan to attend a local bridal shows for show-only specials or giveaways and be honest about your budget and vision with wedding vendors. Professionals will work with bride to find creative ways to stretch your buck and meet their bottom line.

Cash bars are T-A-C-K-Y... as well as anything else on your wedding day that requires you guest pony up cash is tacky. Remember these are the same dearly loved friends and family that bought a special outfit, traveled across the country, paid for a hotel room and bought you a gift for your wedding. During the wedding day, guests’ wallets should stay in back pockets and purses. Tactful Solution… If you are set on offering liquor at your wedding but fear the cost, consider a limited bar with only wine and beer (better yet keg beer, often costing half as much per serving as bottled).

10

8

Brides on a budget save big with DIY Projects.

9

Wedding Day is the Bride’s Day.

With the vastness of today’s World Wide Web, the likelihood of finding a bargain can make DIY more costly than one thinks. This is even more apparent when your inner crafter is not well match to make DIY magic (but Martha Stewart made it look so easy!). And remember time is money, even if it is your time. Be realistic about how much time will need to be dedicated to DIY projects, particularly in the last few weeks leading up to wedding day (when the to-do list is never ending and you’d rather be with you family). If the budget is stretch thin, it might make more sense to skip it all together.

While you and your groom are certainly the guests of honor, a bride with her sights set on making wedding day entirely about her is likely to be labeled a bridezilla. Weddings are as much about the happy couple and their new life together as it is a celebration for all the related family members. Instead find ways to celebrate your family or close friends and their traditions with your new love and the traditions in store for years to come. This ensures your guests feel part of a truly special event.

Your bridal party must have the same number of bridesmaids and groomsmen. Today’s bride has thrown out all the rules when it comes to bridal parties. With you closest friends and family by your side on wedding day, trying to stay in the box of specific numbers or even genders just doesn’t work. Nowadays, your maid of honor is now your man of honor, pooches are playing ring bearer and dancing to the altar is what makes wedding ceremonies personal, memorable and unique.

Julie Anderson & Steve Schaller October 9, 2010 Photography by Forever Images

love story: Steve and I first met when we were in college and dated for a couple of years. After taking a break for a few years, we found each other again. We were celebrating our 3 year anniversary. We had spent the whole day together just running around having a great time. We had plans to have dinner at the Melting Pot which is our favorite place to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. Last minute I suggested going to Loveless Cafe since we had never been. After we were finished getting ready to go out, Steve called me into the bedroom. He wanted to said he wanted to see how I looked. I was standing in front of the mirror, he came up behind me and put the ring in front of me. Then proceeded to ask me the big question. I was totally surprised - not expecting it at all! So we went onto eat at Loveless Cafe which was kinda funny - eating fried chicken after getting engaged. Had I had known what was going to happen I would have kept the date at the Melting Pot but we ended up having a great time at Loveless! the big day: I didn’t cry on my wedding day, I had gotten most of it out the night before. At the rehearsal at the church, that got emotional. When my father and I started walking down the aisle - he started to get teary-eyed. That was it for me, I started crying too. The actual wedding day went really smooth. There were no surprises or any crises. The weather was fabulous. It was just a wonderful day! wedding planning: We were engaged May 2009 so engaged almost a year and a half. I have a busy work schedule so having the long engagement was nice to give me plenty of time to plan. I hired a wedding planner for that last month before the wedding and to help out on the day of. That was so helpful. I strongly recommend having someone to run the big day so you don’t have to worry about everything running smoothly. The most important things to me was to have a good photographer and the flowers. the details: My vision was to have a simple but classy wedding. I chose to have in the fall with warm colors. It is my favorite time of the year. My colors were red, orange and golden yellow - fall colors. The centerpieces were small pumpkins filled with fall colored flowers. The food was southern-styled. The gifts for the guests were small jars of jams from Loveless Cafe. I didn’t have any DIY projects - couldn’t find the time with my busy work schedule! Marriage and advice: My advice during the planning period is too take it easy, don’t get too wrapped up in all the details. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It is supposed to be fun. All those little details that you worried so much about will seem so little.

Natasha Bingham & Dustin Sartin April 2, 2011 Photography by Scoobie’s Photographic Images

Love Story: Dustin and I first met at a LSU football tailgate. He became my landlord when a friend and I rented out his house, which is how we got to know each other. When Dustin asked me to marry him we were on our way to church, Dustin faked needing to use the bathroom. My condo was close by so he decided to swing by there. On the stairs going up to my condo, he wrote in sidewalk chalk “Natasha, I LOVE YOU, WILL YOU MARRY ME?” He then got down on one knee…..! It was awesome! The Big Day: I wanted a simple yet elegant ceremony. I wanted a super fun, cheerful, yet classy reception! I was very happy with how everything turned out! The night before the wedding we arranged the centerpieces. We used ‘water beads, which look like beads initially and grow to look like marbles by adding water. I suppose we overestimated how much these beads would grow, because when I walked into the reception hall at 3pm on the wedding day these marble sized beads were everywhere. They were overflowing the vases and pouring out on the tables and onto the floor. We didn’t have much time because the wedding was at 4pm, so my dad and bridemaids frantically picked up as many of the beads as they could before the ceremony. There were still several on the tables for the reception, but it looked a little like table decoration! It was just a minor crisis, but by no means put a damper on my day! Everything turned out beautifully! One of the most memorable moments of the day was when the best man and maid of honor accidentally got the rings mixed up. So Dustin put his ring on my finger and I put my ring on his finger! No one noticed expect the bridal party, but it was something that we laughed about later. Marriage advice: If you are planning the wedding yourself, I recommend a short engagement! It will consume your life from the day you start planning to the day of the wedding! If you can, try to enjoy every step of the process!

Love story: We met in college at Vanderbilt University, through mutual friends. We knew each other a little bit for about a year, but never really got a chance to talk one-on-one. One night we all went out as a group and the two of us got separated from everyone else and talked all night. We were basically dating from that point forward, through the rest of college. Upon graduation, we both moved to North Carolina (he home to Charlotte to look for a job and she to UNC at Greensboro to pursue a graduate degree) but Joe quickly got a job in Washington, DC and so began a three-year long distance relationship. After finishing school in Greensboro, Lindsay moved back to Nashville hoping Joe would soon relocate. Eventually he was able to move to Nashville and shortly thereafter (after a sixyear relationship!) we got married. Around New Year’s Eve of 2009, Joe’s family planned a vacation to the Cayman Islands and invited Lindsay to come along. Joe had purchased the ring before the vacation was planned but decided to wait until the Cayman Islands to propose. We had just made an offer on a home were very excited to hear from our real estate agent and get updates while we were on vacation. One night Joe told Lindsay that there was no chance we could afford a wedding anytime soon after buying a house so she wouldn’t be expecting a proposal…and she bought it. The next day, around sunset he asked her to go for a walk. First, he suggested we walk next door and picked up a bottle of our favorite red wine, poured her a glass and they went on a sunset walk. About a mile down the beach he suggested they stop walking, got down on one knee and just asked if she would marry him, to which she immediately replied “Shut up!” (quickly followed by “yes”). They went back to the house where the rest of the family was cooking dinner and announced their engagement. Joe managed to surprise everyone but his brothers, who he had told earlier that day. Lindsay spent the next few hours trying to call all her friends and get them to pick up an “unknown number” from a house phone in the Caymans so she could share the news. the big day: For our “get away” we hadn’t planned anything special like a fancy car. We were just going to walk off into downtown Nashville. At the last minute, I decided to order 50 vuvuzela horns (commonly known as the world cup horns, that sound like a swarm of bees) for our guests to sound off as we left as a surprise Joe (an avid soccer fan). We loved our photographer. She was always in the right place at the right time, while somehow managing to not be in the way or noticeable. As an example, we were on the dance floor when a piece of my hair kept falling in my eyes. The photographer (who I hadn’t even noticed standing behind me) reached out with a bobby pin to fix my hair. Perfect timing! Also, I have received about a million compliments on the pictures.

Lizzie Simpson & Michael Harrigan May 28, 2011 PHOTOGRAPHY BY Ace Photography

Lizzie Simpson & Michael Harrigan 05.28.11 proposal story: Pat totally surprised me with the engagement! It was not a surprise because we had talked about it. We had even designed our ring together. Little did I know, he had jumped on getting the ring made and had it in his possession for a few days but his timing did surprise me. We both spent the day with my family. They were here for a concert we were to attend that evening. Pat played golf with my father, and had a long talk with him about asking for my hand in marriage. My mother and I spent the day looking at historic homes (one of my mother’s favorite activities.) When we got home, Pat was telling me about his afternoon and talking to me about the great time he had with my father. And when I turned to look at him he was down on one knee, asking if I would be his wife. Of coarse I said YES! We celebrated! We screamed and laughed and hugged and finally jumped on the bed. ;) With all of the dogs in tow. The greatest part about it was we got to share the excitement with my family. We went to meet them a few hours later to go to dinner and a concert. It was the perfect end to the perfect day. the big day: The wedding day was absolutely amazing! The day was packed full of activities. I woke up at 7am to have a massage alone at 8am. This was to be my last solitary hour as a single woman. I coveted that hour and am very grateful to the nice woman who helped me relax with a dark room and some aromatherapy. After that the race was on...I met the bridesmaids for breakfast at 9am. We ate and gossiped over coffee and croissants. We then went to the house to pack last minute items for the day and night. We all had hair appointments at a local Nashville Salon, Fruition. The salon was nice enough to allow my make-up artist to come there and do make-up for me and my mother. My maid-of honor ran and bought sushi for everyone and we scarfed down what would be the last morsel of food until after photos. Cedarwood was amazing. They took care of everything. As soon as I arrived I was excited. We took lots of photos with the help of Ace Photography! I even had my dear friend, Tina, a very pregnant bridesmaid, hopping over creeks and hiking into the woods for great shots! I became very emotional right before the ceremony began. My bridesmaids hugged me and helped me with a small prayer, which calmed my nerves. The cicadas provided a magical backdrop to the Beatles music we selected for the ceremony. The rest of the night was nothing short of magic. I laughed, cried, ate, drank and danced, danced and danced some more. Marriage and advice: As far as planning the wedding, I would advise brides to expect that their man not be too involved in the planning. I don’t agree with this, nor do I think it is fair, but if was a reality. He simply didn’t care about burlap overlays and floral arrangements. If I had accepted this sooner, I may have appreciated his way of preparation more. (His preparation involved patience with me and a lot of golf and fishing.)

love story: Aaron and I went to High School together. He proposed as a surprise on our 5th anniversary on the 27th floor of the AT&T building with no detail left undone! the big day: The most anticipated moment of my wedding day was seeing Aaron. My favorite moment that was captured was me and my husband’s special moment where we saw each other for the first time. That was very special to us to have that time. We followed the tradition of my father walking me down the aisle. My favorite wedding moment was seeing all of our special friends and family that came to share in our exciting day with us! As I walked down the aisle, all I could think was how overwhelmingly blessed I am! wedding planning: My favorite part about planning my wedding was getting to pick out everything that I loved. My mom was with me when I found my dress and I knew it was the one from the very beginning of looking! My engagement ring came as a set with two wedding bands along with it and we went and looked for Aaron something that fit him and that would last forever. I would not say that I have been planning my wedding since I was a little girl, but I have always loved weddings though and as I got older would think about what I would like. The details: I wore my mom’s garter that had blue on it as well as carried a handkerchief that someone gave me with blue on it as well. We did a lot of Do-it-yourself projects. We made our programs, tablerunners, groom’s cheesecakes. Our cake flavor was half strawberry and half white and as I said before we made cheesecakes for the groom’s cake. I love black and white but wanted some sort of color also, so decided to do the pink bridesmaid dresses and use pink flowers and then incorporate a lot of black and white into everything also. Marriage and advice: We are most looking forward to getting to spend each day with my best friend and enjoying every part of this new journey together. We went to Cancun, Mexico for our honeymoon.

love story: We met through one of our best men in 2005. He believed that we would be a really good fit together. We couldn’t be more different. Mike is reserved, quiet, and calculated. I am loud, talkative, social, and impulsive. We balance each other perfectly. Mike popped the question at one of my favorite places, Opryland Hotel during “A Country Christmas”. It was so beautiful. He waited until the very end of the evening, after an extremely cold walk, to surprise me. It was just the way I would imagine him to ask. We were in an extremely crowded place, but he found the perfect moment, when we were all alone. the big day: It was crazy. I ran around all day trying to tie up last minute plans, as usual. The entire bridal party was late getting dressed. We ran a little behind starting the ceremony. My veil fell off during the Ceremony. Mike tried to kiss me early. It was so much fun. Mike teared up the entire time. I laughed. We both cried during the toasts. All of the children danced like crazy for hours. The best moment of the entire day was our first dance. We barely moved around the floor, but it was the most relaxing and wonderful feeling. the details: The colors were watermelon pink and kelly green. I wanted everything to be very comfortable feeling. Chappell Acres was the perfect venue. It’s nestled out in Springfield, far enough away from Downtown Nashville, but still close enough for travel. The barn is the perfect blend of casual and rustic chic. It was absolutely gorgeous. We wanted the evening to be filled with the soft light of sunset and candles. The wedding planning process: We were engaged for a year and a half. My grandmother was instrumental in helping getting everything together. We also had a major help from my grandfather, and Mike’s parents. We did it without a planner. I also went to a Bridal Show held at the Nashville Convention Center this past winter. The most important thing was to enjoy ourselves every step of the way, and to try and cut back on unnecessary stress. Marriage and advice: Be a team. Always look to each other for support. Trust one another. This is the person that you love more than anyone else in the world, Show it! Be their number one fan. As long as you always put each other first, it will be successful. It has surprised me how much more in sync we are. We seem to be working together better than we have in the 6 years we’ve known one another.

Robyn Turner & Leonard Mays October 30, 2010 Photography by Roland’s Photography

Tell about your love story: Lenny and I met out in Nashville. I had seen Lenny at the Downtown YMCA but to this day Lenny says he did not see me then. When we finally did meet we had a nice conversation and a few dances on the dance floor and the rest is history. Lenny and I are a perfect match because we are two Christian, family oriented, respectful, fun, and hard working individuals. Lenny and I had a tradition of spending New Year’s Eve together. Lenny was going to pop the question as the guitar dropped in front of the Hard Rock Cafe in Nashville but got overwhelmed by the amount of people that were out. When we got to his house he proposed in a candle lit room on one knee. the big day: The day was PERFECT! I laughed at my family and friends crying during the ceremony and at the fact that all of my family members thought it was ok to say something on the microphone at the reception. I cried when I first started walking down the aisle but a whisper came from the groom’s side that said,”don’t cry”, so I got it together before I got to Lenny. Lenny and I both cried during the tribute to our parents. One of the most memorable moments of the day was the dance challenge that evolved during the reception as well as saying I DO. Since our wedding was the day before Halloween we had a costume booth and message boards for our guests; the pictures were hilarious. We made the direction cards for our invitations and one the bridesmaids made our broom we jumped during the ceremony. The wedding planning process: We were engaged for ten months. Everyone helped with the wedding but ultimately the help of our wonderful planner, Parthenia Fayne, helped make our special day so memorable. We attempted to do the planning without a planner but by me being in Philadelphia and Lenny being in Nashville we needed help. Parthenia had monthly checklist for us and stayed on top of us. She became a second mother and best friend to us. The most important thing to us during our wedding was that our family and friends were comfortable and could share in our love for the day. Marriage and advice: Don’t forget about each other. Make time to go on dates and enjoy each other separate from planning the wedding. Remember what is important when trying to decide on budget issues. Think about what your guests will remember the most and spend money there. I look forward to waking up next to the love of my life everyday!

your love story: On a perfect day in October, Duston, his mom, sisters, and I went on a shopping trip. Unbeknownst to me, his sisters held my attention with the lure of a manicure while Duston snuck off to Genesis Diamonds. He had planned on proposing the next weekend, but the ring was unfinished. Soon after, I made surprise reservations at a fantastic restaurant in Cookeville, Sebastian’s, for a six course chef’s tasting meal. I made these plans to thank Duston for such a wonderful weekend. Again, little did I know, I was the one who would be getting the surprise. Earlier in the day, Duston found an opportunity to ask my father for his permission, and everything was all set for the big question. Our meal was so romantic! We were in a fabulously decorated room set up like a French cafe. We were the only two people dining in the restaurant. After halfway through our meal, the waiter brings in a silver platter holding two flutes of champagne and the ring box. Before I realize what is happening, Duston comes around to my side of the table and gets down on one knee. Of course, I said yes! the big day: Our wedding day was everything I had always dreamed it would be. The decorations and flowers turned out beautiful, the food was fabulous, the wedding party’s attire was perfect, and we were surrounded by all of our close friends and family. The funniest part of the day was when my father gave me away. The judge asked, “Who gives this woman to this man?” And instead of saying “Her mother and I,” my dad says, “I do, I am, her mother.” We still get a laugh out of this mishap! Our ceremony went by so fast and it seemed to happen in a blur. Although, this is what most people enjoyed about our wedding. It was short, sweet, and we let our guests start eating while we took pictures. What we did not anticipate was traffic on the interstate. Right before the wedding, a wreck caused a huge traffic build up in front of the exit to the winery. Many people missed the ceremony, and we had to delay everything for Duston’s dad. He was stuck in traffic along with several other guests. Also I wanted to mention my granny, Ann Bowling. She lost her battle with cancer while we were on our honeymoon. When she first became ill, she prayed she would be healthy long enough to be there on our wedding day. Not only was she there with a huge smile, she helped decorate and plan. For this I am eternally thankful. the details: We envisioned a spring theme for our wedding. I wanted bright colors and lots of beautiful flowers. I told my florist what I had in mind and she made it happen. I did not have any DIY projects, but we did all the decorating on the day of the wedding.

Hey

Grooms Don’t Say This During Wedding Planning!

“Sounds good, whatever you think.”

If it only mattered what your bride thought, than she wouldn’t take the time to ask you for an opinion. Contrary to popular culture, most brides desperately want their groom more involved with the wedding planning. While there will be some aspects that you have less of any opinion than others, it is important to not fall mute for majority of the major decisions. After all, a wedding is the first step in your new life together and I’m betting you want to have a say in that.

“How much?!”

Constant criticism of how much is being spent really takes the fun out of planning a wedding for all parties involved, particularly your bride. Instead, map out a budget that you can both agree on for the wedding so you both have a clear understanding of how much money is being spent where. With financial woos the number one precursor for divorce; start off on the right foot.

“I’m really wiped... I just want to chill. Can all this planning stuff wait?”

Let me clarify... grooms get a hall-pass on this statement a couple times. By the third, fourth, every time we ask for help and you responsed with another excuse to postpone, our patience is wearing thin. Brides see a mountain of work ahead of them when it comes to all the details of a wedding. From decor to family drama to slimming down for our dream dress, we see our own sacrifice everywhere and need you to pitch in. After all, the wedding is for the both of us.

“Didn’t I mention that? I must have forgot.”

It is important that both bride and groom are kept in each other’s loop regarding the wedding, guest’s travel plans and Mom’s sudden one-eighty considering her help with the rehearsal dinner. A wedding can be a logistical nightmare and “forgetting” to mention vital details can derail a timeline and add a lot of undue stress to your bride. When you have new wedding information, make a point to share this with your fiancé, pronto. I’m betting there’s an app for that...

“This really doesn’t matter to me. I don’t want to help.”

Agreed, tying ribbons around hundreds of wedding programs or filling custom seed packets for favors may not be your cup of tea. But your bride is excited and loves the details that make your day personal and heartfelt, including those that are somewhat time-consuming. And when you love a person you do things that are not important to you because they matter to the person who matters most to you.

Abigail Baron & Michael Gorby 04.29.11 love story: Somehow, in the vast metropolis that is Los Angeles we found each other! We are so compatible, specifically we both love to travel, eat good food and our faith is very important to us. We often take small weekends trips to fun places in our area and the surrounding states. Which is how our proposal came about. We had previously been to Yosemite to camp and had the most amazing time. The scenery is gorgeous, the people were nice, everything was perfect. Michael felt that was the best place for a proposal. So we hopped in the car on the ruse of a camping trip to Yosemite, but little did I know Michael had reserved a Bed and Breakfast at the park! We went on a hike, to Sentinel Dome. From the summit, you can see all of the park, including the waterfalls and the valley itself. Up on top of the world, he got down on one knee and proposed! The brave man had hiked up there with the ring loose in his pocket, because he figured I would notice a ring box (which I would’ve)! It was beautiful! THe big day: We laughed and smiled through our entire big day. Everything went smoothly and there were no worries. We had an unlimited photo booth for the guests, with funny hats and glasses, which caused many moments of hilarity! My brother wrote our first song to dance to just for us, and sang it with an acoustic guitar. He also played the song for the father-daughter dance. My father had not been informed about what the song would be, but in the planning stages had joked it should be James Brown. When my brother began playing and singing James Brown’s “Get Up Offa That Thang” my father almost died! We danced to the whole song, all by ourselves and laughed the whole time. Michael faked out all the single men with a fake garter toss and while they searched for it thinking it had fallen behind them, he threw it for real! It was caught by a cousin in high school, who proudly displayed the garter on his head for the rest of the evening! There was a moment when Michael and I snuck away during the reception, to walk through the grass alone and go to the renovated barn to see the lovely decorations. when we got to the barn, we slow danced and Michael said “soak this in, this is one of the moments you’ll remember.” It was so sweet and perfect and a moment of calm quiet amid the excited, happy chatter. Marriage and advice: I would recommend an all-inclusive wedding venue. The stress of picking individual vendors, then individual items like silverware, glassware and chairs are so burdensome and really take away from the fun of the upcoming wedding! Also, the guest list is going to a point of contention. Accept that up front and try to approach it with grace. We look forward to getting to know each other better! We have so much to learn, so many places to visit and so much to do.

Signature Cakes

Flowers Forever

Making wedding cakes is more than baking and frosting cakes -- it is art that tells a story. When I design a wedding cake, I take ideas, colors, impressions, style, taste, and even beliefs from my brides and grooms to individualize their wedding celebration in cake. Of course, some grooms love to see their alma mater, a tractor, a hobby such as chess, or even a favorite hat made from cake. I am committed to the freshest, most high-quality ingredients for both my cakes and icings.

With their state-of-the-art freeze-drying system they are able to preserve your floral arrangement so you may enjoy it for generations to come. Choose from a variety of frames, keepsakes to personalize your frame. Life-long memories start with them. Call Meghan Lederer at 865385-0882 or Peggy Lowe at 901-496-1707.
