Elise Barreiro & Caleb Miller 05.11.12 Love Story: Caleb and I have both grown up in the worship ministries of our church. Even though he grew up in sunny California and I in Nashville, we have lived pretty similar lives. I have always sang and played guitar at my home church, while he played drums as a pastor’s kid in his home town of San Jacinto. In the summer of 2008, we both attended the Pure Worship Institute in Nashville, where we experienced seminars, workshops, and worship nights to help us grow as leaders in our church. This is where we met and got to know each other. Once the camp was over, Caleb went back to California where he continued to pursue me with phone calls and sweet letters. A few months later, he moved to Nashville to play with a worship artist and attend college, and date me of course. We currently attend Trevecca Nazarene University together, where I am studying to be a Worship Pastor and Caleb a Physical Therapist. On September 23rd, 2011, a typical Friday night after school, Caleb picked me up for a double date with our good friends Josh and Lindsey Davis. I am usually difficult to surprise, so making it a double date was the perfect distraction. We had a fun-filled evening, and even though I have grown up in Nashville, I had never been on the walking bridge downtown. So, naturally the walking bridge was the place to propose, and it was definitely magical. An ordinary Friday night after classes turned out to be a pretty special first walk on the bridge and the start of our new journey together. Wedding Details: Leslie Reeves, our wedding planner, took care of everything. She really took the stress load off of us during the whole planning and decision making process, which allowed for a smooth engagement. The most important thing to us for our wedding was that our family and those who have supported us over the years were honored and felt loved. Also, we just simply wanted everyone to have a great time! The vision and theme for my wedding was honestly just to put on a classy affair that still represented the fun and creative sides of our personalities. Many ideas were found on Pinterest, including my favorite which was us using an heirloom Bible to tie the rings on instead of the traditional pillow. My favorite color is purple, so we combined a plum purple and used peacock feathers as accents. Caprice at Enchanted Florist in Nashville really created some fantastic pieces around the whole peacock theme, and it turned out romantic and elegant with artistic touches. Simply perfection.

how to

Choose Your Bridesmaids Wisely

This no-drama guide will help you quit stressing over which ladies to choose for your bridal party! “Why did I ever ask her to be a bridesmaid? She’s insane!”

I cannot tell you how often I have heard these words from brides a month or two before their wedding. For whatever reason – be it number of attendants on the groom’s side, stress, or guilty association – some brides twist themselves in knots over which girls to choose for bridesmaids or (gasp!) the Maid of Honor. In a haste to make everyone who thinks she should be part of your bridal party happy, you ask ladies you really do not know well. Before you know it, you have a small army of attendants you rarely see until just before the wedding. Not cool! Every decision you make about your attendants can have a resounding effect on the moods surrounding the festivities both before and during your wedding day. Keep the following quick tips in mind before popping the big question to your girls!

1. Choose a friend or family member who will take being your bridesmaid seriously.

This means she will try to move her schedule around to help with your DIY tasks when she can, will listen to you rant about your wedding woes (but will stop you before you go over the edge!), and will even help plan your bridal shower. Then, she will actually commit to being at the shower. Make sure the lady you ask is tons of fun and would be willing to cut-up to relieve your stress - but she truly must be dependable, too. If someone you have in mind tends to RSVP to your get-togethers or parties and then doesn’t come, and you learn about the other party she went to instead via photos on Facebook, she is likely not bridesmaid material…no matter how fun she can make a party (if she actually arrives).

2. Choose attendants you can see yourself having strong friendships with well into the future.

Harsh as it sounds, asking ladies you do not expect to continue friendships with after you are married ultimately dates your

wedding. Honor your closest friends and family with this role – not the girls in your best friend’s group with whom you rarely spoke.

3. You do not have to have the same number of attendants on both sides.

So what if your groom has five guys, and you only chose four girls? It is really not that big of an issue. Leave your number where it is if it means you might ask someone you will regret choosing later. Keep in mind that having more maids means more bouquets, more bridal party gifts, and more miscellaneous costs, too.

4. Scared that choosing a Maid of Honor will hurt someone else’s feelings?

Do not be. The other ladies should understand that it is not necessarily a game of favorites. (Okay…maybe it is. Just a little.) If feelings do get hurt, let your other maids know that you chose your MOH for her planning and visionary abilities. You probably also chose her for her ability to nip drama in the bud before it starts, which is a must with almost any group of girls in a high-stress situation! The day is about you, and your MOH will be with you more than anyone else throughout the day. In other words, it is okay to have favorites here.

5. Think of the bottom line in the end!

Getting married is one of the most exhilarating experiences of your life. Cherish it with the ladies who have made your journey more meaningful because they have been a part of it! When it comes to choosing your attendants, I always say to think before you ask. Sleep on it. Chat with your future hubby about it. In the end, only pick the girls you are closest to. After all, if you are close to someone, you likely already know if she is “insane,” and you can save yourself the unpleasant surprise of finding out later! by Pink Lady Andrea

Carrie Crow & Dr. Jonathan Thiele 03.24.12 The Proposal: I was visiting Houston for Jonathan’s medical school graduation and helping him get ready to move to Denver, CO.

Carrie Crow & Dr. Jonathan Thiele

Jonathan invited me over for a candlelit dinner and made his specialty, tikka masala. After dinner, he blindfolded me and drove to the Houston Waterwall, where we had visited on one of our first Houston dates together. We climbed up a couple of the giant Waterwall fountain steps, and Jonathan said, “I have something to give you.” He then reached in his pocket...and pulled out a piece of chocolate (which I gladly received)! Then he got down on his knee and asked if I would marry him, and I said “Yes!” loud and clear. He presented his grandmother’s wedding ring, which happened to fit perfectly (“It’s a miracle!” as Jonathan said). Wedding planning: We were engaged for about nine months. Unfortunately, we were long-distance for most of that time, as Jonathan started medical residency in Denver, and I came to Nashville to spend time with family and plan the wedding celebrations. My mom was the best wedding planner in the world. She had already bought some magazines when I got to Nashville right after Jonathan and I were engaged. I remember I had a late flight, arriving in Nashville around 10:30 from Houston, but we stayed up until after midnight looking at bridal magazines. Pretty early on, she ordered a wedding planner/organizer, and it went with us nearly everywhere for those nine months. My mom’s attention to detail and creative ideas really shone through during this process. We had so much fun, and I loved every minute of working with her on all the preparations! My mom and I also went to the Pink Bridal show about three months after my engagement. We didn’t know what to expect, but before it was over, we had found two of our “missing pieces” at the time -the perfect photographers and DJ! We also had a great time visiting all the vendors, tasting foods, and getting some wonderful ideas. Michelle Soll, with Burlap and Brooches events, did a great job of giving us support the weekend of the wedding. She was a wonderful help in creating the look and feel of the rehearsal dinner celebration and helped with the reception set-up and schedule. Since we wanted to do so much on our own, this was the perfect balance for us of planning everything, then having professionals help when the weekend chaos started! The most important thing to us about our wedding was that it was a family celebration. After all, our parents were friends before we even knew each other. So, both our families played important roles throughout the planning and weekend celebrations (and we are so thankful!).

Six Steps to

Choosing the Wedding Cake Dig in to the perfect wedding cake on your big day by following these simple steps! by Pink Lady Andrea

1

Always, always, always do cake tastings!

2

Look around at different styles and designs, and have an idea of how you want your cake to look before you meet with your baker to nail down a design.

A cake can look beautiful and still taste horrible. Taste each baker’s cake prior to placing a deposit!

Have two or three ideas available to discuss, and see what his or her opinion is on the best style and design for your guest count.

3

Be aware of food allergies.

4

Know how many guests are planning to attend.

5

Choose the shape of each tier next or decide upon a design from step two.

Do you or your future hubby have a food allergy of some sort? Be sure to tell your baker about any allergies or dietary restrictions you may have before going further.

Once you have your guest count, your baker can tell you how many tiers your cake should have. If you want to save the top tier, you may need an additional or larger tier.

Your baker may provide multiple options for tier shapes if you would like to build a custom look, or you can begin discussing what you love about the designs you found.

6

Choose your cake flavors, fillings, and icing! Keep in mind that your baker may suggest using fondant for certain cake designs or outdoor weddings. This could change how much your cake costs as well as the way your cake tastes, so be aware of this before moving forward. Once that is settled, choose which flavor, filling, and icing combo is just perfect for you!

Five Adorable

Bridal Shower Themes These unique shower ideas offer tons of fun, laughter, and gifts for the bride!

1. Alphabet Bridal Shower

4. Pajama Spa Shower

Assign each guest a letter in the bride-to-be’s full (married!) name. Then, have the guests purchase items from her registry, wrap the gift, and decorate it with the letter they were assigned. As gifts arrive, spell out the bride’s name! Let her new monogram be your decorating inspiration. If guests are really creative, they can try to find a gift on her registry that corresponds with their letter. Guest favors could be hanging initial ornaments with the first initial of each guest’s name.

Have guests wear their pajamas, put a bunch of pillows on the floor, and shower the bride-to-be with spa-related items! Then put on a good chick flick and indulge in giving each other manicures, pedicures, and facials well into the evening while you snack on comfort foods. Guest favors could be nail polish in the bride’s wedding colors!

2. Around-the-House Shower

Guests can write their favorite recipes on cards and give to the bride along with gifts of non-perishable foods needed to prepare the recipe in a (reusable!) gift basket. Alternatively, guests can give an appliance used in the dish’s creation. Another favorite way of conducting this shower is to have guests prepare each dish to bring to the shower for everyone to eat! Guest favors could be cute cookie-cutters or mini whisks.

Assign each guest a room in the house to purchase an item for from her registry. Decorations should be in the bride’s favorite color to accent her home. Serve foods she loves! Guest favors could be little key necklaces.

3. Honeymoon Shower Encourage guests to purchase gifts for the bride and groom via their honeymoon registry. Alternatively, give guests the option of purchasing a gift that would celebrate their honeymoon location, like flip-flops, sunglasses, or signature drink mixes. Wrapping paper and decorations could follow the honeymoon destination theme! Guest favors could be a keychain with the destination theme – like a mini Eiffel Tower or sand in a bottle.

5. Stock the Pantry Shower

Melissa Williams & Steven Sanders PHOTOGRAPHY BY Forever Images

Melissa Williams & Steven Sanders 05.05.12 Love story: Steven and I met each other January 2006 at his brother’s birthday party that was at my place. His sister-in-law talked me into giving him my number. He called me, and we soon started dating. Steven and I dated for 4years and 9months. He was unlike any guy that I had ever dated before because he was so quiet, laid back, and easy going while I was the complete opposite. We bumped heads at first because we were like day and night, then we later got adjusted to one another personalities. Steven proposed to me Oct 30, 2010 at the Arrington Vineyard in Arrington, TN. It was totally unexpected. He got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. I said “YES!” We made a toast to us with a bottle of Arrington Blueberry 2010. What a lovely evening it was. Wedding Details: The theme of my wedding was a Diamond in the Rough love story, and my colors were purple, lavender, and silver. My vision for my wedding was to make sure this wedding represented our love for one another and had the beauty that God wants for this marriage. I wanted a very elaborate, elegant and classy wedding. I incorporated this by having the ceremony decorated in white to represent purity of God and peace. I wanted my guests to feel like they had entered a fairy tale as soon as the doors opened. I had Tiffanie of Elliott Events to help me carry out my vision with the drapery decor, white flower petal designs going down the aisle and water-filled giant cylinder vases with white orchid inside sitting on a lighted base. I added my own decor to enhance this vision with clear trumpet vases filled with water, submersible white lights and a purple lily. The reception had the same feel to it. Elliott Events did white drapery on the wall behind the head table with eggplant drapery design. They decorated the head table, cake table and grooms cake table. Tim of 2 Sound Productions also added his sophisticated flair to my vision for the reception with purple lighting around the ballroom and a lighted monogram of our names and our wedding date on the wall. Elliott Events added a monogrammed “S” on the dance floor. Everything turned out beautifully, and I was well satisfied with everyone’s hard work and dedication. I did several do-it-yourself projects, including wedding planning and centerpieces. I made all the bouquets, boutonnieres, invitations, RSVP cards, calligraphy envelopes, and wedding programs, as well as candy buffet table decor, eggplant overlays and diamond confetti. Family members even helped with our favor bags. Our do-it-yourself projects saved us $13,500!. I have always been a crafty person with a talent for decorating so wedding planning was REALLY fun for me.

Sparkling… Modern… Inspired… LikeYou. My name is Amelia, and my fiance, Justin, and I are accountants with master’s degrees from Vanderbilt University’s Owen School of Management, where we first met. I had strong ideas of what I wanted for my wedding, and Justin and I worked together to create favors, place cards and other items for our dream wedding. The colors aubergine, copper and ivory were chosen to reflect fall without going the traditional route of brown and orange. The ceremony was held downtown at the historic Christ Church Cathedral, with a traditional Episcopalian service including the liturgical procession. The Noah Liff Opera Center yielded itself to a traditional cocktail hour with a pianist, followed by a classic reception decorated with damask ivory linens, oak leaf-themed centerpieces, enhanced dramatic lighting, and sophisticated jazz music. A very unique aspect of our ceremony was using an old Anglican tradition of the flower girls ringing bells as they preceded me down the aisle. The church was beautiful with its stained glass windows, the beautiful music played by the wonderfully adept organist, and the floral decorations. On top of this, we found great joy from the sessions with our officiate leading up to the big day and the understanding of the liturgy provided prior to the ceremony. Photography was extremely important to us, and we could not be happier with who we chose. Gregory Byerline captured image, after perfect image and we enjoyed getting to know him while working together. I am delighted to have such amazing work to enjoy the rest of my life. The Noah Liff Opera Center was the perfect location for our reception. I loved the combination of modern design, glass and chandeliers without having to fight a “vintage” or “industrial” look. The space is perfectly set up for receptions, and we loved the flexibility of the space. We could be as creative as we liked! We created incorporated the acorn as a nod to Vanderbilt and where we met. A cigar bar was a fun piece for one of Justin’s favorite pastimes, and our shared love of coffee was shown in the coffee bar, served with dessert.Justin surprised me with an a capella quintet-- of which he took part! We loved working with Sarah Willard with Music City Events. She was exactly what we needed to help us carry out our ideas and add her own expertise to inspire new ones! With her help, we were able to confidently choose wedding professionals that would understand our values and dreams. She was with us at so many meetings and was everywhere on the wedding day, taking care of all the set up and details. I was fully able to relax and enjoy the day with my best friends and family.

Emily Shanes & Brendan Hewett

Emily Shanes & Brendan Hewett 05.04.12

Behind the Story

Love Story: Brendan & I met online at match.com. We talked online for about a month before we met in person. Our first date was to the North Carolina Muscadine Wine Festival in Dublin, N.C. We had the best first date and spent the night dancing under the stars. From that moment on, we were inseparable. We started spending every weekend together, which turned into every day. We would drive 1.5 hours each way to see each other daily, leaving before the sun came up to get to work. We knew from the first date that our relationship was something special that we didn’t want to lose. There were sparks from the beginning, and his homecoming after almost a year of deployment was one of the most memorable days of our lives (in addition to the wedding). Wedding Day: One of the most memorable moments was walking down the aisle with my father and seeing my fiance standing at the front of the church almost in tears. Also, I loved coming out of the church for the sword arch & carriage ride. It was wonderful to experience that with my new husband. I laughed when our bridal party entered the reception in pink feather boas and white glasses. I cried during the ceremony exchanging vows and my groom almost cried as I walked down the aisle. As an unexpected twist, our getaway car’s brakes went out the afternoon of the wedding, so the my father drove them to our hotel. Wedding Details: The vision was personalized, romantic elegance. The colors were pink, silver, and white with small accents of navy blue (the bridal party wore navy to match the groom’s uniform). White ostrich feathers and bling were a driving factor of all of the details. With the help of my mother, we brought the vision to life with personalized details...feathers and bling on the invitations, feathers on the bridal bouquet and corsages, and DIY hair pieces for the bridesmaids.

Megan Wingo & Michael Darnell, Jr. May 26, 2012

PHOTOGRAPHY BY Sarah of The Collection

Megan Wingo & Michael Darnell, Jr. 05.26.12 Love Story: We were high school sweethearts and had been dating for five years when Michael popped the question. One of our first events together had been a bonfire at my house. Five years later, he proposed on a random Monday night in the same location with the bonfire as our backdrop. Wedding Details: The vision for our wedding was a romantic evening in the garden. We said our vows under an antique bronze iron gazebo covered with wild grapevine and curly willow with a beautiful 4 foot crystal chandelier hanging from it. The aisle was filled with rose petals surrounding each stepping stone from the iron arbor entrance to the stone landing under the gazebo. After the ceremony, a silver mirror announced the menu to the guests as they made their way to the reception area lit with café lights hung from antique columns to outline the dance floor. Family heirlooms were an important part of the reception décor. Each immediate family sat at tables with family china and collections of silver, crystal, pearls, handkerchiefs or dollies and family mementos. After cutting our amazing cake made by The Bake Shoppe, our guests enjoyed a candy bar filled with pink and white assorted candy which included M&Ms. Early on in our relationship we were nicknamed M&M so M&Ms candy was a must for our candy bar. Later that night we were able to slip away to the pond for just a few moments while the fireworks exploded over the water. As the evening came to an end, we left in a restored convertible Miata with a lovely “just married” sign attached with ribbons that my grandmother had saved from a previous family wedding 25 years earlier. We chose pink and grey as our colors. The bridesmaids wore mauve cocktail dresses and the groomsmen were in grey tuxes accented with pink ties. I wore hot pink satin wedges under her Maggie Sottero gown. Floral arrangements were made from roses, lilies, stock, wax flower, gerbera daisy, miniature roses in shades of pink with queen anne’s lace, and baby’s breath all bought at a local market. Our wedding would never have been possible without all the hours our family spent helping to make our dream come true. The Dress: One of the most amazing experiences during planning was an impromptu weekend trip to New York City. Michael’s aunt arranged for her, my mother, Michael’s grandmother and sister, and me to explore New York. I had wished to visit Kleinfeld but I could not believe I was actually able to get an appointment and try on wedding dresses for the first time. My mother and I felt like we were on “Say Yes To The Dress.” After trying on several beautiful gowns, I knew the first dress I had tried on was the one. For the second time in a few short months, I said “Yes!” A bonus to the trip was the time my mom and I were able to spend together.

Tiffany Presley & Miles Stelzig October 7, 2011 PHOTOGRAPHY BY Ace Photography

Tiffany Presley & Miles Stelzig 10.07.11 Love story: Miles and I have been together since we were 16. We met at a local music venue. Since we grew up together we are not only soulmates but bestfriends as well. Miles and I work together as wedding photographers at Ace Photography and have been shooting together for 4 years. We love what we do and are happy that we can do it together. It helps having the same passion as your significant other. Miles popped the question on Christmas day 2010 with all my family around us. After everyone had opened all their presents Miles leaned over to me to say there was still another present behind the tree, so I went and looked. As I was turning around everyone had their cameras out, and then I saw Miles on one knee. It was a great proposal with all our loved ones around us. Wedding Details: We were engaged for 10 months. My mom was a HUGE help when it came to helping me plan, design and execute my ideas. We went with an all inclusive venue so we had a wedding planner and event designer. We used The Pink Bride Bridal show that January after he proposed to start getting ideas and talk to amazing vendors. The most important thing to us for our wedding was that our guests had a great time; we had a photobooth, a band, amazing food and a great location. Our theme was a Vintage Shabby Chic. Cedarwood helped bring all of our visions to life. We were inspired by skeleton keys, vintage candleabras, chandeliers, old cameras and lace. Our wedding colors were deep purple and crimson red. My DIY project was fabric flowers; we used them for different decor throughout the reception area mostly with signs and the ties on the cocktail tables. Wedding Day: The funniest thing that happened on our wedding day was on the way to Cedarwood. We hit trafic from Hermitage Hotel to the wedding. My sister had to get off an on-ramp; it is hilarious to think about now, but it was scary at the time! There were many moments in the day that were overwhelmed with happy emotions, but the moment that had me the most choked up was seeing Miles in his suit and how handsome he was for our first look.

Wedding Drapery [ For the Ultimate in Elegance ]

- We Specialize in Custom Drapery, Sheer Canopies, Flowers, DĂŠcor -

Wedding drapery treatments are a new and unique touch for weddings and help make your special day unforgettable. Create a stunning first impression by using drapery, canopies and sheer entrances. These elements can radically soften a site, bringing sophistication and style to any venue and complete your desired effect. When faced with floor space limitation, make a powerful captivating statement in the ceiling. Panels can divide areas of interest.

(615) 834-1700 www.EventsPlusNashville.com

Wall draping is effective in covering behind the bridal table, minimizing the room, or covering an unsightly wall. Sheer drapery panels can enhance a specific area. Transformation is the essence of what drapery can do for your wedding. The goal is for your guests to take away that one element as a defining memory of your event.

Stories like Cinderella confirm to us shoes are not only cool, they are an important part of the wedding day. On our wedding day we will probably wear the most expensive dress we will ever wear, so of course accessories, like shoes, are important. Wedding shoes used to be plain, low heeled, white and sometimes boring. After all, most people thought they would never be seen. Now they are supposed to be seen. Shoes are a great way to express your personality and creativity. The most obvious trend was the pop of color we saw peaking out from under the white dresses. Wedding shoes can be any color now. The “Sex and the City” movie helped popularize the “something blue” shoe which we saw a lot of the last few years. Shoes can match the color of the wedding scheme, be the color of a favorite sports team, or be multicolored. Low heels, high heels, sandals, wedges, flip flops, and even boots have been popular. Some brides say they spent longer looking for their shoes than the dress. One of our beautiful brides loved her shoes so much she had a replica of her shoe in pink icing on top of her cake. Trends for 2012 continue from last year with a few more neutrals and metallics. Bling, which never really went out of style, has returned full force. Vintage style, lace and embossed patterns that we have been seeing in the dresses are showing up in the shoes.. Platform shoes return from the 70′s with a modern twist. If the groom is much taller than the bride this is a great equalizer. If you are getting married in the near future make sure you say yes to to a great pair of shoes. Popular designers for wedding shoes include Jimmy Choo, Steve Madden, Stuart Weitzman Martinez Valero, Badgley Mischka, Christian Louboutin, Benjamin Adams, Aldo Tavera, Nina Critia, Ivanka Trump, Betsey Johnson, Kate Spade, Manolo Blahnik ,Jodie Frangiq, Sam Edelman, Fifi, Boutique 9, Seychelles and of course Prada. Nothing makes a girl feel better than a great pair of shoes. Consider websites like Zappos.com, Endless.com, or Stylehive.com. Many bridal dress salons also carry a great selection of shoes in the seasons hottest styles and colors. Bring your shoes to the dress fitting to make sure the length of the dress works with the shoes. Remember getting married is a marathon event. Make sure you love the comfort as well as the style. Heel height is important. If you don’t normally wear a higher heel, you might want to have a pair of flats for the reception. This should be a happy day, so don’t let shoes make it miserable. Remember on your wedding day you will be on your feet all day. If you can wear your shoes during a bridal portrait session or for several hours one day you will get a better idea how comfortable they are. Pick a shoe that fits your personality, style, and wedding and you will be glad you paid attention to the details. A pair of shoes can change your life, just ask Cinderella.

Loren Murphy & Jason Abramo 04.29.12

Loren Murphy & Jason Abramo

Love Story: A lot of people say when you meet your soulmate you just know. In our case the moment we met we both knew that were meant for each other. We are best friends that are very much in love, and have the ability to be serious one moment and complete goobers the next. When Jason popped the question I had just sat down to eat sushi. He called and said there was an emergency at his parents’ house. I headed over, and when I arrived at the house there were no lights on. I noticed a glow in the backyard, and when I pulled around back, the entire yard was covered with white twinkle lights, white hanging lanterns, candles, and flowers. He was standing under an arbor that was covered with white lights, holding hydrangeas and dressed in a suit. (Remember it’s July and incredibly hot; he was sweating up a storm.) I got out of my car and said, “Jason, whats going on?” I walked toward him, and then he told me, “I have wanted to ask you this since the day we met.” He got down on one knee and popped the question. It was exactly everything I had ever dreamed of and more. Wedding Planning: The most important thing about my wedding was for everyone to have fun! A lot of people get so caught up in their weddings that it becomes stressful or unpleasant, and it’s not supposed to be. The reality is that it’s one day of your life. Yes, it’s one of the most important days, but if something goes wrong you have to just go with it! Sometimes the imperfections are what makes it YOUR DAY! The biggest helps for my wedding were the Cedarwood team and my mommy! I wanted something simple, elegant, and relaxed. Great food, wine, and music! My colors were white, ivory, champagne, and beige with pops of green. Cedarwood gets mad kudos for bringing my vision to life! They were amazing! Big Day: My day was amazing!!! The most wonderful thing about my day would have to be that I was surrounded with so much love! My family and friends were the highlight. Not many people saw this but right before I walked down the aisle I took off my shoes. I love being barefoot; its comfortable. Even in my baby pictures I didn’t have any shoes because I screamed every time the photographer would put them on! Seeing my mom and dad for the first time after I was ready with my dress on brought avalanches of tears! I love my parents so much! They are my biggest fans and I am so blessed to have them as parents. Getting married means moving on to the next chapter of your life. I knew my parents were feeling just as many emotions as I was, but I reassured them that I will always be their little girl!

Candi Cooke & Stacy Butler, Sr.

Candi Cooke & Stacy Butler, Sr. 11.25.11

Behind the Story

Love Story: Stacy and I met on a blind date at the Cheesecake Factory just 3 years shy of our wedding date. We were introduced by mutual friends who thought we would be a great match. Now each time we have dinner at the Cheesecake factory, we always introduce ourselves at the door just like we did that first night in December 2008. “Hi, I’m Candi. Are you Stacy?” Our blind date was like having dinner with an old friend and you’re just not quite ready for dessert. Wedding Planning: Stacy proposed August 8, 2011 and we were married on November 25, 2011. We didn’t have much time for planning or executing our dream wedding. This was the second marriage for us both so we knew that we wanted something small; however, we both have large extended families and lots of friends. The most difficult tasks was deciding on the number of guests we could invite. We decided to limit the guest list to close family and very close friends and we decided that the wedding party would consist of just the two of us so we searched for a venue with a warm intimate feel. Luckily for us Black Friday is not a very popular wedding day. All venues and vendors that we contacted were available, and due to the lack of business on that day, we were able to get some great deals or extra amenities. Everyone we contacted was eager to assist us under very stringent timelines. The date was perfect for us as many family members were in town for the holiday. The “rehearsal” dinner was actually a large Thanksgiving dinner hosted by Stacy’s parents for both sides of the family. It was a perfect way for eveyone to meet before the wedding and start to build lasting relationships.

~ Congrats to our ~ Cover Contest

Meredith Brandt & Michael Govea 01.21.12

Runner-Up

The Proposal: Michael proposed to me in Hendersonville the day after my younger sister’s wedding in the place we shared our first kiss 10 years prior. Michael and I had traveled back to Nashville for my sister’s wedding, as had a large amount of my family, and so it was such a blessing to be surrounded by both of our families after we got engaged. He then surprised me with an engagement party later that evening in Nashville with all of our friends. Wedding Details: The vision for our wedding was a glamorous winter wonderland. We chose to have a formal evening wedding. Getting married in January in Nashville set the stage for a wonderful winter evening. I wanted the wedding to be full of whites and silvers and crystals. My bridesmaids’ dresses were sangria, which is a rich pinkish purple, and that was the one pop of color throughout the event. They carried white, faux fur muffs down the aisle instead of bouquets.

Meredith Brandt & Michael Govea

Getting married at a hotel meant we had a blank canvas that we could totally transform into whatever we wanted. The ceremony was completely draped in white. We used ice blue lighting along the back wall to set it apart. We sprinkled sangria colored rose petals down the white aisle in the ceremony to coordinate with the bridesmaids’ dresses. Another winter element was the winter trees our decorator created for us. They spray painted these 6 ft. tall trees in all white. We had two of them on the stage at the ceremony, and then they were placed throughout the ballroom for the reception. The reception was also draped in white and had crystals throughout. Our florist created several different centerpieces that helped transform the room. Some of the centerpieces had lush, white ostrich feathers coming out of these 3-4 ft. tall slender vases that my mom had purchased. Other centerpieces were silver, sparkly branches draped with crystal that spilled out of the 3-4 ft. tall vases. The tables were also sprinkled with sangria flower petals, which added a nice pop of color, as well as crystals to add a little extra sparkle. I purchased both the flower petals and the crystals from a wholesale store online. The ice blue lighting that was placed throughout the room contrasted perfectly with the darkness outside, and it gave the reception a beautiful wintery feel. When Michael and I made our exit, our guests showered us with silk snowflakes. When I talked with the vendors about the vision I had for our wedding, I told them my ideas, and they executed them in a way that was more spectacular than I ever could have imagined. Many of the guests have told me that our wedding was one of the most beautiful weddings they had ever attended, and that it truly did look like a winter wonderland.

Ring Shots

The Ring - Photographs and Article by Ann Thoni at Forever Images -

As an established wedding photographer, I have learned that the ring shots represent and mean so much to each couple! We make it a point to do creative ring images of each and every set we come in contact with. No two images are ever alike! We always incorporate our ring images into our beautiful Storybook Wedding Albums, and each of our couples love to see their ring photos. Every wedding story starts with the rings. The stories are all so different, but that’s what makes each and every image so special! Every couple has their own story of how their best friend proposed... Where... When? How did he choose that perfect engagement ring? Many stories we hear today are so well thought out, you can actually say that to some, the proposal is a theatrical production. They only propose once, so why not make it the best it can be! We love each and every story we hear, and most of all, we love having the opportunity to help each couple preserve that memory forever.

Sarah Brandt & Daniel Adams

Sarah Brandt & Daniel Adams 03.24.12

Behind the Story

Love Story: Daniel and I met at Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. Daniel grew up attending there, and when I moved to Memphis for medical school I made Bellevue my church home. We began serving together in various community service projects which gave us a unique bond. Daniel has a heart to serve and is always looking for ways to make me smile and laugh. Daniel proposed to me in my parents’ driveway after driving up to spend a few days with them. Wedding Details: We were engaged for about 8 months. My mom was the biggest help in planning our wedding. We had so much fun picking out my dress, tasting different cake flavors, and perusing beautiful flowers. Tony Pirtle and his daughter were our wedding planners for the big day, and I was amazed at how smoothly everything went. They took away so many of my worries and took care of everything before I even thought to ask!! The most important thing to me was to be sure that Daniel and I enjoyed our day with our friends and family. And we did!! The vision was grand elegance. Scarritt Bennett is one of the most beautiful places to get married, and I was so thankful to say my vows there. Caprice did an amazing job of making Wightman chapel romantic, classy, and elegant. The Bake Shoppe made a perfect cake with beautiful gold detail and a gold rose to add some grandeur. Debbie Sumner did beautiful draping to dress up the reception at the University Club, adding to the romance of the experience. My colors were a deep blue green and champagne, to accent my champagne wedding dress. Big Day: Our wedding day was very special. Due to an unfortunate accident, I was on crutches over our wedding. But my friend Lauren helped me decorate my crutches to make them wedding appropriate, and my friends and family were so supportive and helpful all day!! The most memorable moments were me walking down the aisle without my crutches while leaning on my dad and then leaving the chapel while leaning on Daniel. The fact that I was able to make it down the aisle without crutches was such a blessing.

Cake Feature Designing the Centerpiece to Your Reception

The Wedding Cake - Photographs and Article by Signature Cakes by Vicki Why do I design wedding cakes? Picture this . . . Your wedding day is finally here. You and your groom have just entered the reception. Your cake is a total surprise! It’s everything you dreamed it would be. It’s your style, your theme, your colors. It brings tears to your eyes. However, you could have a completely different outcome. Remember there are no do-overs on wedding day. Therefore, I take designing and making wedding and groom’s cakes very, very seriously. At Signature Cakes by Vicki we plan at least an hour for your Consultation and Tasting in order to design and taste wedding cake. The most crucial element to designing your ideal wedding cake is the ability that I have to bring the ideas and concepts that you have in your mind onto my full-sized easel. Do you love white monochromatic or full bodied color? Is your style art deco, vintage, clean lines modern, sophisticated elegance, country, floral garden, lace, minimalist, classic basketweave or something in between? We hand replicate, form, pipe and sculpt wedding dress lace, broaches, pearls, architectural moldings, bows, ribbons and fondant draping. We make sugarpaste flowers and sculpted elements such as peacocks, humming birds, chickadees, shoes, and animals. Everything is made by hand, one at a time. The design possibilities and combinations are endless. Therefore, we ask that you bring samples of fabric, lace, ribbon, flowers, color swatches, pictures of your dress, bridesmaids dress pictures, flower photos, pictures of the venue and anything else that expresses your style and your fashion sense. Bring your iPad, smart phone or laptop to make it easier. Or, are you a little overwhelmed and just don’t know what you want? That’s okay; I’ll help you find the perfect combination of style and elegance. I will bring alive your concept right before your eyes onto the easel. That’s what I do. The goal is to make the cake of YOUR dreams – a one-of-a-kind, original work of art. No matter how beautiful the cake is, it MUST be delicious because, after all, it is dessert! Have you ever heard someone say, “Oh, the wedding cake was beautiful, but it didn’t taste very good.”? At your Consultation and Tasting we present up to twelve flavors to savor, which will melt in your mouth and titillate your palette. Do you have a unique idea for a special flavor? Some of our best recipes have been born out of custom flavors such as “Nutella” Hazelnut Milk Chocolate Cake and Key West Margaritaville Cake. And by the way you aren’t limited to one cake flavor; you can choose multiple flavors turning your wedding cake into a dessert bar. On wedding day, my husband and I do all the deliveries. Okay I admit it, they’re my babies. Have you ever watched the reality cake shows? If so, you know that tragedies can happen! It’s imperative that you have a skilled professional deliver your cake. The best part? We deliver the cakes in the Nashville area for free. Finally, we don’t stop on wedding day. We always follow up with an email and pictures because we want to hear all the stories. Maybe I’m a little nosey, but I want to hear what the bride, her groom, the family and the guests said. I want to know that they not only loved the artistic style of the cake, but that it was delicious! And that is why I design wedding cakes.

Woes of the Web

a bride 's tell-all

Oh, the thrill of online shopping. People’s thriftiness or tight budgets allow them to get lured in by the ultra-slashed prices on popular websites. But when it comes to shopping for a wedding gown online, Christina Tompkins learned the risks the hard way when her wedding dress dreams turned into nightmares. The Right One: My fiancé and I were engaged in September 2011, and we set a date for September 2 of the following year. I thought this would give me plenty of time to make wedding plans. I soon began to search for a wedding dress. After looking through a few magazines, I fell in love with an Allure Couture dress that a bridal store close by actually carried. A little later, I was shopping online and I came across some other dresses that I’d seen in magazines at a fraction of the original cost. This made me curious to see if my dream dress was also available online at a discounted price.

The Wrong Dress

The Wrong One: Eventually, I found an online vendor who offered my dress—same exact picture from magazines, totally different price. At $235, my fiancé insisted that we take the chance and order it. So I submitted my order, but after a few weeks and no dress, I started to worry. I quickly assured myself and considered it a normal timeframe for a dress coming all the way from China. Soon after, I came home to find a very small, thin package on my doorstep. Inside, I found a dress nothing like the one I had fallen in love with weeks earlier. It was obvious that the dress was cheaply made. I immediately went to the bridal store where my dream dress was held and compared the two dresses. The elaborate, beaded bodice I admired on the original dress was replaced by one with gaudy, silver sequins. The original bottom was an intricate embroidery of hand-made flowers, while my online dress had white flowers actually safety-pinned onto the train! I was so shocked and heartbroken, but luckily I gave myself enough time for mishaps. I was going to try and make it a DIY project; in fact, I tried to sew on sequins myself! In the end, I contacted the company in China and asked for my money back which was eventually, and luckily, refunded to me. I recently found another dress by Maggie Sottero that I purchased—in the store this time!—without having to deal with hefty price tags or risky transactions! Her Advice: If it’s too good to be true, it probably is. Beware of bidding websites that present your dream dress with the same photos but have a distinctly different price. You get what you pay for—cheap price, cheap dress. Something as important as your wedding gown should be purchased in-store; you are able to have a concrete visual of what you are spending your money on. Go with the dress you give your heart to (even if your more frugal fiancé tries to convince you otherwise!). Do not spoil it by trying to find a better deal because, more than likely, you won’t find one worthy of your purchase. Be wary of dresses made in a foreign country like China. Being so far away from the manufacturer is never a good thing, and you probably won’t get the detail you are hoping for. Not all online wedding purchases are off-limits, though. I actually purchased my wedding shoes and several bridal party favors online with no hassle. For a bride whose dress is low on her wedding totem pole, she might not have to take as many precautions. However, all brides should do their homework before making such a costly purchase.

to Make the Most

WAYS

of Bridal Shows

You’re engaged, and now it is time to start planning… With so many things to see and vendors to talk to, wedding shows can be overwhelming and feel a bit like, well, the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. Savvy brides see through the chaos and make the most of what bridal shows have to offer by way of inspiration, advice and vendor giveaways. With these 7 tips, you can too!

•1•

Come prepared. The boy scouts were on to something here… Make sure you have the essentials. Have a pen to take notes and sign up for all the wedding day give-aways. Better yet, pre-print mailing labels with your name, phone number, email and wedding date to save a ton of time. Also, remember to bring your camera to capture all the wedding inspiration on display… vendors are putting their best decorating foot forward and you will want to remember everything you saw.

•2•

Don’t eat (a lot!) before you come. Weddings have food, and so do wedding shows. Caterers and bakers use this opportunity to showcase great samples of their food, so hold off on lunch & come hungry!

•3•

Leave the little ones at home. Children have small attention spans and even with all the cake samples will quickly lose interest becoming dead weight. It is distracting to have fussy or bored children (or adults!) in your party while you are walking the show floor and trying to talk with vendors. Think carefully about who will join you on wedding show day.

•4•

Do your homework. It’s worthwhile to familiarize yourself with the services you are still seeking, what questions to ask and who is exhibiting at the show. This helps to maximize the time you have at each booth which can sometimes be limited with busy shows and popular vendors. Having other details, such as your wedding date or budget mapped out, are also helpful… You don’t want to fall in love with a vendor only to find out that they are booked on your wedding date or out of your price range.

•5•

Come ready to make a deal. Many of the vendors will offer show-only discounts and specials for brides ready to book. If you have done your research and have your checkbook in hand, the savings will add up fast. Keep in mind that vendors are not as busy during the fashion show, so if you have your dress, use this time to talk one-on-one.

•6•

These boots are made for comfort. Remember the show floor is big with lots of walking, so leave the heels for later that night and wear comfy shoes!

•7•

FREE tickets! Many local vendors are given free show tickets to hand out to perspective brides that they would like to personally invite to the show. If you plan to set up meetings with vendors before the show, make sure to ask if they will have a booth, and you just may get free tickets.

Don’t miss the next Nashville Pink Bridal Show! Visit www.ThePinkBride.com for more details.
