Jamie Florence & Ryan Scott 09.01.12 LOVE STORY: We met in high school, but were never more than friends. Ryan would joke about going out, but I never thought he was serious. We attended different colleges and didn’t see each other for a few years. Then we both attended a mutual friend’s birthday party where we quickly caught up. He admitted that he was serious about going out in high school and asked if I would considerate it now. After that we were inseperable. We dated for two years before he proposed. In the first few months of dating I knew I wanted to marry him; he was my best friend and the love of my life. On the day he proposed, I arrived back in the states after spending two weeks in Europe with my sister. He picked me up from the airport and immediately hugged me. I could feel his heart beating uncontrollably, but he said he was fine. As we walked outside he turned to me and said that those were the longest two weeks of his life, and that he never wanted to have to live without me again. He then knelt down on one knee and popped the question. WEDDING DETAILS: Ryan and I were engaged for a year before we were married. Both of our families helped in any way they could. We were married in a field at his parents house. They did more than I could have ever asked for to prepare for the wedding; the site looked immaculate. I did not use a wedding planner; our families and caterer helped immensly and a wedding planner was not necessary. Ryan’s sisterin-law, Rylie, helped direct the wedding party on the day of the wedding, which made everyone a little more relaxed and not stress about the timing down the aisle. Our photographers were amazing, professional and reasonably priced. I would suggest each and every one of the companies we used to future brides in the area. The most important thing about the wedding was that everyone had a good time. I wanted us, our families, and our friends to all enjoy themselves and have a wonderful night, and in the end, I believe we all did. The wedding theme was a rustic farm wedding. I wanted the wedding to be natural and pretty, but laid back and fun. Our colors were navy blue and neutrals. Countless bolts of burlap and navy fabric, and rustic objects helped shape my vision into reality. WEDDING DAY: The final preparations for the wedding went smoothly, except for one incident. Having experience with flowers, I decided to make all of the arrangements myself. The actual Wedding Day was flawless. When I walked down the aisle and saw Ryan looking at me, every care in the world seemed to vanish. He was my prince with a crooked tie, and saying ‘I Do’ was the most exciting thing I have ever done. Everyone had a wonderful time at the reception. Main Street Catering did a superb job with the food and cake. We danced the night away, laughed, and made memories that will never be forgotten.

Five Adorable
Bridal Shower Themes These unique shower ideas offer tons of fun, laughter, and gifts for the bride!
1. Alphabet Bridal Shower
4. Pajama Spa Shower
Assign each guest a letter in the bride-to-be’s full (married!) name. Then, have the guests purchase items from her registry, wrap the gift, and decorate it with the letter they were assigned. As gifts arrive, spell out the bride’s name! Let her new monogram be your decorating inspiration. If guests are really creative, they can try to find a gift on her registry that corresponds with their letter. Guest favors could be hanging initial ornaments with the first initial of each guest’s name.
Have guests wear their pajamas, put a bunch of pillows on the floor, and shower the bride-to-be with spa-related items! Then put on a good chick flick and indulge in giving each other manicures, pedicures, and facials well into the evening while you snack on comfort foods. Guest favors could be nail polish in the bride’s wedding colors!
2. Around-the-House Shower
Guests can write their favorite recipes on cards and give to the bride along with gifts of non-perishable foods needed to prepare the recipe in a (reusable!) gift basket. Alternatively, guests can give an appliance used in the dish’s creation. Another favorite way of conducting this shower is to have guests prepare each dish to bring to the shower for everyone to eat! Guest favors could be cute cookie-cutters or mini whisks.
Assign each guest a room in the house to purchase an item for from her registry. Decorations should be in the bride’s favorite color to accent her home. Serve foods she loves! Guest favors could be little key necklaces.
3. Honeymoon Shower Encourage guests to purchase gifts for the bride and groom via their honeymoon registry. Alternatively, give guests the option of purchasing a gift that would celebrate their honeymoon location, like flip-flops, sunglasses, or signature drink mixes. Wrapping paper and decorations could follow the honeymoon destination theme! Guest favors could be a keychain with the destination theme – like a mini Eiffel Tower or sand in a bottle.

Sabrina Bergstrom & Harold Kelley II 06.16.12 Wedding Details: Early on in planning, we decided that our theme would be vintage, specifically the 1950’s. One of the first things that I purchased was my dress. I have always had a love for vintage clothing. My mother was actually the one that spied my dress at an antique store in downtown Kingsport. It was a 1950’s dress and, amazingly, I didn’t have to have any alterations done! I also lucked out in finding a vintage birdcage veil headband and gloves to complete my outfit. To complement my attire, Harold wore a three-piece striped linen suit, complete with a fedora. I continued to scour antique stores for months in search of the perfect vintage accessories, like vintage tablecloths and the blue-colored Ball mason jars. The flowers we chose were mainly wildflowers, displayed in the mason jars. We also purchased vintage hats, gloves, purses, and glasses that were displayed in an old trunk for our vintage photo booth area, where guests could dress up and have fun. Outfits were made complete with mustaches on sticks!
Sabrina Bergstrom & Harold Kelley II
I didn’t really have any set colors for the wedding. I tried to incorporate robin’s egg blue, which was a prominent 1950’s color, and other soft colors that would fit our vintage theme. All of the bridesmaids wore dresses not only of different styles, but different colors as well. Some were authentic vintage, and some were new with a vintage style, but they all looked amazing together! We included a line on our invitations that let everyone know the wedding was a vintage theme and that they were free to dress the part. We were amazed by the number of people who took that to heart and dressed accordingly. They looked amazing! We gave miniature jars of apple butters and honey decorated with vintagestyle fabrics and labels exclaiming, “How sweet it is!” They were perfect! We saved by deciding to go with BBQ for our reception because we not only love BBQ, but it also fit the location and theme so well. We still hear about how good the food was! Another thing we decided early on that we wanted was a good photographer. We wanted a photographer who would be able to capture our special day and one who would understand and appreciate our vintage theme. I found Kadee at the Pink Bridal Show in 2012 and was immediately impressed by her talent. We saved by booking a package with her during her bridal show special. The photos are amazing! We splurged on the flowers. We had so many of the vintage mason jars on the tables and hanging on shepherds hooks at the ceremony site, and that took a lot of flowers!

BRIDAL MYTHS
Debunked!
Is wedding advice coming at you from every angle? Determine what’s fact and what’s fiction by debunking these common wedding myths.
1
IT’S NOT REALLY A WEDDING IF YOU DON’T FOLLOW TRADITION. The first person to buck tradition and wear white was Queen Victoria (that’s right...brides have not always worn white). This is now taken for granted as standard attire as is a wedding cake, first dance, bouquet toss and something blue. A wedding simply requires an officiant, license and witness. The celebration of said wedding should be an expression of the couple’s personalities, and sometimes breaking the rules leads to new traditions that are a better fit than those of past generations.
4
The Bride’s parents pay for wedding and reception; groom’s parents pay for rehearsal dinner. Wouldn’t it be nice if Mom and Dad still footed the bill? Not so with modern weddings. This myth goes out the window, as at least a third of wedding costs are now covered by the couple themselves. Families today are pooling their resources and then, together, determining how funds are spent for all related events.
2
Thank-you notes can be sent by email.
3
THE BRIDE CAN ONLY BE GIVEN AWAY BY HER FATHER.
While email is the preferred way of communication for many a message, it is generally frowned upon when thanking your wedding guests. Hand written thank-you notes are far from outdated, and though tedious to a generation of texters, it must be done. Appreciate this dying art, and take the time to communicate as your grandparents would. Years later, a friend will dig out your hand written note, carefully saved. Not your email.
This myth dates back to the days of old, when daughters were literal property of their fathers, and a wedding was merely a business deal for Dad to expand his fortunes through the sale of his daughter. While the tradition still sticks to this day, I doubt very much that modern brides would describe themselves as part of dad’s estate. Your aisle escort should be a person that played a significant and supportive role in your path to finding true love.
5
WEDDING LUCK (AND MARRIAGE) DEPENDS ON A SIXPENCE, SPIDERS AND SUPERSTITIONS. Here’s the thing about luck... it all depends on the belief that wearing a certain color, carrying a token or changing your behavior will shift future events to their preferred outcome. Luck is mostly used as a way to counter those things completely out of our control and has often been a way of explaining the unexplained. If only making it through the first year of marriage was as easy as saving the top tier of your cake. Make your own luck with careful planning, professional vendors and a positive attitude.
6
Vendors will always give a discount if you ask.
7
If you can’t foot the bar bill, offer a cash bar.
Wedding vendors are not Mexican bazaars where you haggle the best possible deal. While a vendor may run a promotion, expecting to get a discount because you’re a bride is like expecting your doctor to run a special because you’re a patient. This doesn’t make long-term business sense. Instead, plan to attend a local bridal show for show-only specials or giveaways, and be honest about your budget and vision with wedding vendors. Professionals will work with brides to find creative ways to stretch your buck and meet their bottom line.
Cash bars are T-A-C-K-Y... as well as anything else on your wedding day that require your guests to pony up cash. Remember these are the same dearly loved friends and family that bought a special outfit, traveled across the country, paid for a hotel room and bought you a gift for your wedding. During the wedding day, guests’ wallets should stay in back pockets and purses. Tactful Solution: If you are set on offering liquor at your wedding but fear the cost, consider a limited bar with only wine and beer (better yet keg beer, often costing half as much per serving as bottled).
10
8
Brides on a budget save big with DIY Projects.
9
Wedding Day is the Bride’s Day.
With the vastness of today’s World Wide Web, the likelihood of finding a bargain can make DIY more costly than one thinks. This is even more apparent when your inner crafter is not well-matched to make DIY magic (but Martha Stewart made it look so easy!). And remember, time is money, even if it is your time. Be realistic about how much time will need to be dedicated to DIY projects, particularly in the last few weeks leading up to wedding day (when the to-do list is never ending and you’d rather be with your family). If the budget is stretched thin, it might make more sense to skip it all together.
While you and your groom are certainly the guests of honor, a bride with her sights set on making wedding day entirely about her is likely to be labeled a bridezilla. Weddings are as much about the happy couple and their new life together as it is a celebration for all the related family members. Instead, find ways to celebrate your family or close friends and their traditions with your new love and the traditions in store for years to come. This ensures your guests feel part of a truly special event.
Your bridal party must have the same number of bridesmaids and groomsmen. Today’s bride has thrown out all the rules when it comes to bridal parties. With your closest friends and family by your side on wedding day, trying to stay in the box of specific numbers or even genders just doesn’t work. Nowadays, your maid of honor is now your man of honor, pooches are playing ring bearer and dancing to the altar is what makes wedding ceremonies personal, memorable and unique.

Jazmine Counts & Cody Yates PHOTOGRAPHY BY Cable Photography
Jazmine Counts & Cody Yates 07.07.12 The Proposal: It was the 25th of June, and Cody mentioned he wanted to go look at the overlooks at Breaks Park. It was becoming sunset when we arrived at the park, and I wanted to get some pictures before the sun went down, so Cody rushed me on while he stayed behind to “grab something.” I was standing at the overlook taking pictures when he showed up. He sat down on the rock beside of me and said, “We will have to come back here every year.” This statement confused me considering the park was only 20 minutes away from our hometown. He then said, “I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” At that moment, I turned around to find him kneeling down on one knee with a jewelry box opened revealing the most beautiful ring I had ever seen. I gasped and covered my mouth while he asked me to marry him. I of course said, “Yes!” We hugged and cried together and took in the moment. It felt like something Wedding Details: Cody and I were engaged for 2 years before we tied the knot. My mother was my saving grace when it came to planning my wedding. We would stay up all hours of the night searching on the internet for ideas. Whenever I would find something I wanted for the wedding, I would print it off and put it into my “Wedding Scrapbook.” It contained everything from flowers to dresses to table settings. The most important detail about my wedding was the venue. I fell in love with Harvest Acres Farm the moment I saw it. I knew that if I could have my wedding there, it would be the wedding of a lifetime. And it surpassed all of my expectations. I have always loved the shabby-chic vintage look, so I incorporated that theme into all aspects of the wedding, including the colors of blush pink and cream. Cody and I wanted an intimate ceremony that focused not only on us, but also on our family. Family is very important to both of us, so I used my maternal great-grandmother’s butterfly brooch for something blue, my greatgreat grandmother’s necklace for something old, my paternal greatgrandmother’s silver pieces on the reception tables as something borrowed, and I also used lace from my mother’s wedding gown to tie my bouquet together. Wedding day: The weekend all started when I woke up to no electricity the day before the wedding! Thankfully, the bridesmaids and I planned to stay the night at the Martha Washington Hotel that evening. The day of the wedding, I was very excited! All morning, I was hoping and praying that it wouldn’t rain, since the ceremony was outside. Little did I know, my wedding day was one of the hottest days in July at 97 degrees. Our wedding day all came together and was everything I ever wanted; romantic, elegant and intimate. It was a dream come true!

Lacey Linkous & Cade Zook 10.13.12 Love story: Cade and I met in high school when we were both just 15. Yes, we’re high school sweethearts! Cade moved from Florida to Tennessee with his family our sophomore year. We didn’t have classes together that year, but saw each other in the halls every day. I guess this is where you could say opposites attract. He wasn’t really my type in the beginning, but the more I got to know him, I realized he had a good sense humor which made me just fall in love with him. Being tall, dark and handsome didn’t hurt either. Sometimes I like to think he moved here for a reason, for me. We keep each other balanced and grounded, and he loves me unconditionally.
Lacey Linkous & Cade Zook
It had been 8 years that Cade and I had been together, but I really didn’t expect for it to happen. It was Christmas 2011, and we were spending time with his family. I was so excited to give everyone their gifts, but I noticed Cade wasn’t being his normal self. I said, “Come on let’s go open gifts!” He took me away from everyone and pretty much started pouring his heart out to me. That’s when I knew it was going to happen. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the most gorgeous ring I had ever seen! I was so shocked that I couldn’t even say anything. I just cried. Then he says, “So, is that a yes?” Wedding Details: Cade and I were engaged for about 10 months, but I only started planning around 5 months before the wedding. My sister and mother made my day so memorable. I didn’t have to worry about anything because I knew their creativity would make it beautiful. The one thing I couldn’t have lived without was the wedding binder my sister made for me to stay organized. It had checklists to make sure everything was covered. My vision for the wedding was vintage chic. I didn’t pick specific colors; I just wanted everything to be classic and timeless, with mainly ivory, creams, palest pinks and touches of soft yellows. My family and I brought everything together by using our own antiques in addition to a few rented and borrowed items. We also added a ton of candlelight to make it very romantic. Wedding day: The day of the wedding, I was pretty relaxed. I didn’t think I would get emotional, but when it came down to the time I was supposed to walk out, I saw my mother and sister beginning to tear up. I couldn’t help but cry. Of course, seeing my future husband looking at me only made me more shaky.

Behind the Story
Love Story: David and I met our freshman year at King College during orientation weekend. We were in the same orientation group. We didn’t really like each other at first. He thought I was loud and obnoxious, and I thought he was too shy. After a while, we became friends despite our initial distaste for each other. We started dating a year and a half later. David proposed in one of the rooms of the farmhouse that was given to him by his grandmother. The house was built sometime between 1835 and 1856. David had always liked the idea of fixing up this home that hadn’t been lived in for quite some time, and he proposed about 6 months after he started working on it. Wedding advice: We received a lot of different advice about marriage before we got married. I think the best piece of advice we received was from one of the older ladies in David’s community. She said, “Kiss each other every day.” After having thought about that piece of advice, I realize why that’s so important. It’s the little things – the goodnight kisses, the 5 minute conversations on the phone on the way home from work, the random pieces of information that you continue to learn about each other, the friendship that continues to grow – that keep a marriage kindled.

Brittany Alexander & Joey Lewis May 20, 2012 PHOTOGRAPHY BY Jim Goodwin Photography
Brittany Alexander & Joey Lewis 05.20.12 Love Story: Joey and I actually met when we were in fourth grade! We were friends from the start but didn’t actually start dating until the start of our senior year of high school. We have always had a great connection and tons of fun together. I think we both knew long before we ever started dating that we would end up married one day. When he proposed, he took me around to all of the places that were special in our first years together. He took me to where we first met, where we went on our first date, where we had our first kiss, and then to the park where we had one of our favorite memories from years before to make another memory as he asked me to be his wife. Wedding Planning: We were engaged for 16 months. The most important thing to us about the wedding was definitely having the best photographer and videographer that we could find. Jim and Krisna Goodwin and Keith Dixon did such an amazing job of capturing the magic of the day in their photographs and video. It was also important for us to find someone special to us to perform the ceremony. My vision really centered around the beauty of the venue. We didn’t do a lot of decorating simply because I did not want to take away from the natural beauty of the place. I knew the guests would be marveling over the amazing home and the stunning mountain views, and that was exactly what drew us to the venue. Our colors were coral and turquoise. Enjoy the process. It goes by so fast and is such a wonderful time in your lives. Everything will work out, and your day will be perfect. So, when times get tough, just breathe and remember what it’s all about. What we are most looking forward to is moving into our first home this year! We are in the process of building a home, so we are really excited to move in, settle down, and start our family.

Amber Duncan & Aaron Ebarb 06.23.12 Love story: It only took 3 months for Aaron to get on one knee and ask me to marry him! I came home from a long day at work. It was Harvest Day at the school I work at. I had volunteered to get pied in the face! So needless to say, I was not expecting to drive into a rose-lined garage! He had lined to way upstairs to my bedroom with rose petals and candles. The kitchen table was a collage of memorabilia; movie and concert tickets, pictures, candles, and a huge bouquet of flowers! When I finally got upstairs he was leaning against the bed. He met me in the midddle of a heart-shaped rose outline. Our song was playing on the Ipod. What’s even better is he sent flowers to my work with a card saying “I love you and can’t wait any longer.” I had such a hectic day I didn’t even realize what he was hinting!
Amber Duncan & Aaron Ebarb
Wedding Details: EVERYONE helped with the planning. Aaron was such a big help. He set up appointments with all kinds of photographers, florists, DJs, etc. So all I had to do was show up and decide! I have two wonderful sisters that went dress shopping, strung string around balloons to make hanging flowerballs, planned showers and parties, etc. We did not hire a planner because we wanted small, simple, and intimate. The most important thing about our wedding was that it was OUR day. We wanted close friends and family because those are the people that really enjoy seeing two families join to one. We wanted the simple, intimate wedding. Like most brides, I really wanted a June wedding. Aaron and I both wanted an outdoor wedding. I fell in love with the barn/farm setting. When we booked our walk-through at Allandale Mansion I never dreamed they would have an opening in June (just 8 months away). Many brides like the actual Mansion or the actual barn but I fell in love with the Pavillion barn. It was beside a big pond with ducks. You could still see the mansion and other barn and it isn’t enclosed so I knew it would airy enough for a summer wedding. My bridesmaids and myself wore cowboy boots and the flower girls went barefoot. We used twine and mason jars for a “country” feel. My colors were natural; sky blue and celadon green. We wanted simple and downto-earth and that’s exactly what we had. It was a small, intimate wedding with family and close friends. Maybe my favorite things made for our wedding was the wood work from my dad. He made a 4-tier cupcake stand for the dessert bar and an “&” sign for Aaron and I to hold for pictures! It turned out to be one of my favorite pictures! We hired Kadees Approach Photography for the wedding. Kadee was very reasonable priced and it really wasn’t a question that we wanted her to shoot our wedding! She also did our engagement photos and my bridal portraits, of course! That was definitely money well-spent and the best part is I have all these wonderful photos to enjoy forever!

Anastasia Klinar & Robert Williams
Anastasia Klinar & Robert Nicholas Williams 10.13.12 Love story: We met in Charleston, SC through our sisters at the Tanger Outlet Stores. Nick was out with his sister, and Stacy was out with her sister. Our two sisters were friends in high school and wanted to hang out on the weekend. When they did, we were tagging along with them and met for the first time! Nick treated all three of us girls to lunch and during the lunch conversation, a spark ignited that started the fire of love between Stacy and Nick!
Behind the Story
After about three years of dating, we had talked a little bit about marriage. So one Saturday afternoon, Stacy was watching her alma mater play football, needless to say the game was not going in her favor. As a gesture, Nick asked Stacy if she wanted to go look at some jewelry stores to get an idea on a ring that she may like. What she didn’t know was that Nick took a detour on the way to the store, and already had the ring in his pocket. So Nick pulled over on the way and told her to enjoy the view in the mountains. Before Stacy knew what was happening, Nick got down on one knee and asked her to be his wifey! Of course she said YES! Wedding Day: Our vision/theme was a rustic, fall wedding. Fall colors, burlap, and family oriented. We had A LOT of help from both sides of the family to pull this off! Ummm, yes! There were way too many DIY projects. Just to name a few were the Save-the-Dates, invitations, table clothes, table settings, flower arrangements, decorations for the reception, and homemade jelly as favors. The colors were wine and plum. The chaos of planning and gathering items to decorate was very memorable. The chaos of decorating the venue for the reception and wedding. Nick laughing with his groomsmen. Stacy hanging out with her girls and her mom before the wedding. Nick watching Stacy walk down the aisle. Stacy being given away by her daddy. All of the first dances. Stacy dancing’ with her momma. The giant underwear! Nick carrying Stacy into the cabin. The evening as a whole was very memorable!

to Make the Most
WAYS
of Bridal Shows
You’re engaged, and now it is time to start planning… With so many things to see and vendors to talk to, wedding shows can be overwhelming and feel a bit like, well, the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. Savvy brides see through the chaos and make the most of what bridal shows have to offer by way of inspiration, advice and vendor giveaways. With these 7 tips, you can too!
•1•
Come prepared. The boy scouts were on to something here… Make sure you have the essentials. Have a pen to take notes and sign up for all the wedding day give-aways. Better yet, pre-print mailing labels with your name, phone number, email and wedding date to save a ton of time. Also, remember to bring your camera to capture all the wedding inspiration on display… vendors are putting their best decorating foot forward and you will want to remember everything you saw.
•2•
Don’t eat (a lot!) before you come. Weddings have food, and so do wedding shows. Caterers and bakers use this opportunity to showcase great samples of their food, so hold off on lunch & come hungry!
•3•
Leave the little ones at home. Children have small attention spans and even with all the cake samples will quickly lose interest becoming dead weight. It is distracting to have fussy or bored children (or adults!) in your party while you are walking the show floor and trying to talk with vendors. Think carefully about who will join you on wedding show day.
•4•
Do your homework. It’s worthwhile to familiarize yourself with the services you are still seeking, what questions to ask and who is exhibiting at the show. This helps to maximize the time you have at each booth which can sometimes be limited with busy shows and popular vendors. Having other details, such as your wedding date or budget mapped out, are also helpful… You don’t want to fall in love with a vendor only to find out that they are booked on your wedding date or out of your price range.
•5•
Come ready to make a deal. Many of the vendors will offer show-only discounts and specials for brides ready to book. If you have done your research and have your checkbook in hand, the savings will add up fast. Keep in mind that vendors are not as busy during the fashion show, so if you have your dress, use this time to talk one-on-one.
•6•
These boots are made for comfort. Remember the show floor is big with lots of walking, so leave the heels for later that night and wear comfy shoes!
•7•
FREE tickets! Many local vendors are given free show tickets to hand out to perspective brides that they would like to personally invite to the show. If you plan to set up meetings with vendors before the show, make sure to ask if they will have a booth, and you just may get free tickets.

Wedding DressforStyles each body type Your wedding day is about celebrating the beginning of an exciting new chapter in your life, so be sure to wear the dress of your dreams for the occasion! Discover the best style suggestions for your body type here.
by Pink Lady Andrea
Body Type
Gown Suggestion
Straight-Figured
Try a mermaid or trumpet silhouette. Both help you seem curvier and make your bust and hips look more proportioned. If you really enjoy the idea of a ball gown, try that too! It will capitalize on your small waist and create a more pronounced hip.
Plus-Sized
Find a dress with an open neckline – ideally a strapless sweetheart. Do not opt for sleeves or a cover over your arms. Look for a dress with ruching that comes to a point, as this separates the bust and the hip perfectly.
Small Bust
Look for a gown with a sweetheart neckline and ruching at the top. This creates volume where you need it most.
Busty
Play down your bust by avoiding straight necklines. Rather, choose a sweetheart neckline or a scooped neckline. Opt for a modified A-line dress with beads and detailing further down the dress to avoid drawing more attention up top.
Tall
Seek a design with minimal frills that accents your long lines. An Empire dress can do just that. The dress will pull in right at or just below your natural waist.
Short
The fit and flair cut with a sweetheart neckline will be flattering on you. Keep in mind while shopping that a higher waist creates the illusion of a longer torso. Embellishments are great for this body type, but they should be small and clustered mainly at the top of the dress.
Pear Shape
A gown with thick straps or a one-shoulder look will help pull the eye away from your hips. A flowing gown with a natural waist will also help conceal this area.
Apple Shape
Seek out dresses with lots of ruching all over to create shape. A V-neck is slimming and draws the eye up, rather than across, too.
No matter what dress style you choose in the end, all that matters is how you feel in it. Keep an open mind to conflicting opinions, but do not let yourself lose focus in the midst of them. Your opinion matters most! Follow your professional’s suggestions as you try on different styles, and ultimately choose the dress you feel the most beautiful and confident in as you look in the mirror. Regardless of your body type, if you are happy and confident on your wedding day, you will be gorgeous!

Emmale Yeary & Jonathan Salyer 09.08.12 Wedding Planning: We were engaged for seven months, and our friends and families were such a blessing to have during that time. I’m an only child, so I had no one to ask about what it was like to walk down the aisle. Luckily, three of my four bridesmaids were already married, so I had plenty of guidance. We didn’t hire a planner because it was very important to me that I be involved in every single part of our wedding planning process. That is, I didn’t ever want to reach a point where I said, “Sure, whatever you think is best.” I was so grateful that Jonathan was so involved in our wedding planning process, and a lot of our vendors seemed to be quite shocked when he showed up to most meetings. That’s one of the many things that I love about my husband. What’s important to me is important to him. I was so glad that our wedding photographer, Miranda Harris, took photos of even the smallest details at our wedding, such as the decorations, food, and scenery, especially since we opted not to hire a videographer. The pictures of the smallest details at our wedding will mean so much to us later when I might not be able to remember exactly where we put a decoration at the reception. I think the most important thing to us about our wedding was that we wanted it to be as stress-free as possible for everyone involved. I think we worried about that more than anything else. We didn’t want the planning, finances, or any other part of our wedding to be stressful for anyone but us, if it had to be at all.
Emmale Yeary & Jonathan Salyer
Wedding Details: I knew that I always wanted a fall wedding. I love the fall. Everything about the fall is so beautiful; the colors of the leaves, the smells, the flowers, the decorations, and so on. I wanted everything that represented fall to be included in the wedding somehow. I already knew that I wanted the colors in the wedding to be chocolate brown, sunflower gold, pumpkin orange, and auburn or red. I also knew that I wanted to include the other things that represented fall, such as pumpkins, mums, gourds, candy corn, and pine cones. We had a twine picture display using two clay pots (painted with our names and wedding date) and filled with stones and a bamboo rod in each, with twine strung from one side to the other and mini wooden clips with pictures of us strung along the twine. Jonathan and I put it together. The party favors were fixed by my bridesmaids and me.

Six Steps to
Choosing the Wedding Cake Dig in to the perfect wedding cake on your big day by following these simple steps! by Pink Lady Andrea
1
Always, always, always do cake tastings!
2
Look around at different styles and designs, and have an idea of how you want your cake to look before you meet with your baker to nail down a design.
A cake can look beautiful and still taste horrible. Taste each baker’s cake prior to placing a deposit!
Have two or three ideas available to discuss, and see what his or her opinion is on the best style and design for your guest count.
3
Be aware of food allergies.
4
Know how many guests are planning to attend.
5
Choose the shape of each tier next or decide upon a design from step two.
Do you or your future hubby have a food allergy of some sort? Be sure to tell your baker about any allergies or dietary restrictions you may have before going further.
Once you have your guest count, your baker can tell you how many tiers your cake should have. If you want to save the top tier, you may need an additional or larger tier.
Your baker may provide multiple options for tier shapes if you would like to build a custom look, or you can begin discussing what you love about the designs you found.
6
Choose your cake flavors, fillings, and icing! Keep in mind that your baker may suggest using fondant for certain cake designs or outdoor weddings. This could change how much your cake costs as well as the way your cake tastes, so be aware of this before moving forward. Once that is settled, choose which flavor, filling, and icing combo is just perfect for you!

Steps To The Best Wedding Celebration Ever
by Pink Lady Andrea
If you dream of throwing the wedding of the decade, plan an event that focuses on honoring your guests throughout the evening. Follow the ten great tips below to planning a celebration your guests with thank you for later – and talk about for years to come!
1. Welcome your guests in style.
Besides stepping into a cozy, clean hotel room after a long day driving or flying to your wedding location, give your guests fashionable treats to make them feel more at home – and welcome! Include everything from local snacks and bottled water to area maps and information on local attractions. They’ll love relaxing with these treats before the festivities!
2. Choose an interesting locale.
Get expressive with where you tie the knot. This can be anywhere from your local zoo to even a museum or gallery nearby. Don’t limit your celebration to traditional venues! Guests will love the unique characteristics of your day because of the one-of-a-kind feel of the location.
3. Keep guests comfortable.
If you’re having an outdoor celebration during summer months, install fans to keep guests cool, and consider fan programs as wedding favors. If it’s during the winter, install heaters to keep the space warm and serve warm drinks. Rest rooms should be nearby no matter where your event is, and you should keep a check on the air conditioning and heat if your venue is indoors. The point is to never let your guests become uncomfortable!
4. Involve them in the ceremony.
Kick off the ceremony with a signature beverage as guests arrive, and allow them to sip and chat before the processional begins. This is a surefire way to break the ice and drum up conversations that will last throughout the evening. Not sure what to serve? A cool, refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) during warm months would be great, and good, old-fashioned hot chocolate would be wonderful during the cooler months. You can also ask guests to give you advice for wedded bliss as you start your new life together.
5. The transition from ceremony to reception should be quick.
Let’s face it: if guests have to travel more than 30 minutes between your ceremony and reception site, or if they have to wait that long for your arrival to begin celebrating, they won’t really be in the partying mood by the time the reception starts. Choose venues that are near each other for your ceremony and reception, and cater your timeline to making sure your guests are entertained.
6. Let your guests make a grand entrance.
Treat them to a rock-star arrival by having each guest ushered into the reception hall with drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and lively music. This makes them feel like a true part of the celebration and sets a vibrant tone for the rest of the evening!
7. Keep them interested with a full itinerary.
The party should never hit a lull where guests sneakily start checking their watches. Make sure you’ve got plenty lined up for their entertainment by dispersing special dances, speeches, and toasts throughout the evening. Also consider having a photo booth near for guests to enjoy! Constantly change things up, rather than having long stretches of time with the same activity.
8. Food and beverages are the key to a great celebration.
People tend to chat more and feel more comfortable when food and drinks are involved, so make sure you foster that great sense of welcome and hospitality by ensuring that they always have something to snack on and drink throughout the evening. Ask your caterer to provide servers who will mingle with the guests, refreshing plates and drinks regularly.
9. Dance the night away with great entertainment. One of the biggest details of throwing the celebration of a lifetime depends upon your entertainment choice – meaning your band or DJ. This is so much more than just playing music! A professional band or DJ will be able to read the crowd and play music that will either get them up and dancing or relax them. If you want your guests talking about your celebration for years, put some work into finding the perfect entertainment choice!
10. Plan the after-party!
Give your more party-friendly crowd somewhere to take their dancing shoes after the big exit at the reception. Plan an after-party! This can be at a nearby locale, and food, beverages, and entertainment should be in ample supply. Just make sure that you have important numbers handy in case you need to call someone a cab or need to get in touch with someone fast!
Victoria Stinson & Toby Hawkins 09.15.12 Love story: It started in March 2010 during a lunch date with a mutual friend and his wife. Our friend said to me, “You have to meet this guy, he is perfect for you! He is witty and he’s determined and he’s basically the best guy I’ve ever known.” I’m sure my response was something like, “Sure why not? Let’s do this! Can we get cheese fries?” At one point in their life, every girl is a skeptic on “the perfect guy” and at that moment I was no different. But then I met Toby, and boy did my world change. It was truly a moment of awakening, his smile instantly melted me and I got that giddy feeling (like you got when you went to your first Hanson concert, or NKOTB or Nsyncdon’t lie you know it happened!). Thoughts like, “I can’t believe this is really happening,” and “am I getting punk’d” were running through my mind. I came for lunch and what I left with definitely wasn’t on the menu. Who would have thought that I would go to work that day and meet my soul mate for lunch? After a few dates it became apparent that this was the man of my dreams.

Wedding Planning: We had our wedding at Chateau Selah in Blountville, TN and if you’ve never been you must go immediately. It is stunningly beautiful and the surroundings are so breath taking! Given how gorgeous our venue was we didn’t feel the need to do a lot of decorating! Our colors were Pistachio (Mint Green), Ivory and Black. My bouquet consisted of Confetti Roses which were kind of a yellow rose with reddish-orange tips. Two things we wanted the absolute best of were our venue and our Photography which was done by the unbelievably amazing, Cable Photography. Gary and LaDonna Cable with Cable Photography are simply wonderful to work with, utterly professional and they truly care about each person/couple they’re working with. Toby and I both agreed when we got engaged that somethings with weddings are trivial and in 15 years you may not remember what font you used on the programs or what candy you put in the favors, or how the music even sounded. A great photographer (such as Cable Photography) knows that you can relive every moment by photos. “You want your photos to tell a story,” they would say and once we received our photos back from them after the wedding they were so true. Looking back on our engagement photos, the bridal portraits and the wedding/reception, it does tell a story. 50 years from now we can look at those and remember everything. They were such fun people to work with, hopefully we can work with them again in the future. Along with the Chateau, if Toby and I had it to do all over again we would pick Cable Photography, they’re hard working, really fantastic people and photographers. We honestly could not have been more pleased with the result of their dedication and commitment to us during our special time.

Tuxedo ( Suit Styles for Each Body Type
by Pink Lady Andrea Make sure your man looks just as stunning as you do on your wedding day! Read on for style tips for each body type.

You can wear just about any style, but be aware of the lengths of jacket sleeves and pant legs. The shoulder pads in your jacket will add bulk without looking too boxy.
Ask your tuxedo specialist about the “fitted look,” which will highlight your trim physique, while the shoulder pads in the jacket will add just enough bulk to your look.
Avoid styles that seem to “hang” on your frame, and look for jackets with two or three buttons that begin lower, rather than higher. Your tuxedo specialist will tailor it to your physique so that you look your best.
Again, you can wear any style! Always watch the length on your jacket sleeves and pant legs.
Any style in any color will work for this physique. The most popular currently is the two-button notch lapel tuxedo in black.
Two low-sitting buttons on a jacket and a vest will elongate your frame.
If you are largest around your midsection, move away from cummerbunds, which draw attention to this area. Consider the more popular option instead – a vest! Go for a onebutton jacket, and streamline your look by avoiding thick, layered materials. Choose a long tie rather than bow tie as well.
Again, if you are largest around the middle, avoid the cummerbund. A vest will draw the eye up, rather than to any bulk you may have in the midsection. A one-button jacket works for this body type. Long ties work best for this frame, rather than bow ties.
Do not go for thick fabrics that add to your size. Look for a jacket with one button that sits low. Opt out of the cummerbund and choose a vest instead. This makes you seem taller and slimmer. Opt for a long tie, rather than bow tie.
Reader Q&A:
Local grooms ask formalwear questions!
Q : “Some jackets have so many buttons. Do I have to button them all?” Evan - Knoxville, TN A : Buttoning only the top button of your jacket is considered appropriate. Q : “What button count works best?” Alex - Oak Ridge, TN A : Generally, jackets with one button work best with bulkier physiques, two buttons look good on average body types, and two or more buttons work for taller people.
Q : “Does it matter who does the alterations on my tuxedo or suit?” Carl - Farragut, TN A : Absolutely. Similar to having a wedding dress altered, not having a professional alter a tuxedo or suit can literally butcher the final product. Choose a reputable shop for your wedding day needs!
Q : “How do I know the difference between a tuxedo and a suit?” Julius - Knoxville, TN A : A tuxedo will have the presence of satin on the lapels, buttons, pockets, and in a stripe down the pant leg. A suit does not have satin components and normally has plastic buttons.

Stephanie Cornett & Trevor Monroe
Stephanie Cornett & Trevor Monroe 10.13.12 Wedding Planning: If I had to use one phrase to describe my overall vision, it would be “simple elegance” - so, I kept the overall color scheme very neutral with accents of blush and soft gold tones. It was very important to me that I was involved in every single detail (albeit small or large) in an effort to achieve the vision that both Trevor and I had for not only ourselves, but also for everyone who was taking the time to join us for our special day. Choosing Kadees Approach as our photographer was truly one of the best decisions that we made throughout the wedding planning process. Not only were they very professional and easy to connect with, but they also proved to be creative and in line with the vision that we had – something that all soonto-be brides are admittedly skeptical of at one point or another. “Would they truly understand what we want?” and “Was I explaining everything correctly?” were questions that I asked myself a million times. Yet, Kadee put such thoughts of nervousness and anxiety at ease. One of my favorite things about Kadees Approach is their ability to capture the “tiny elements” – the “small details” of the surroundings that would otherwise be lost to the naked eye. Kadee made communicating easy, pleasant, and effortless from a distance, as I live in New York and she in Virginia. Everything about using Kadees Approach was a treat – from their superior service, innovative photography skills, and gorgeous products to the friendships and honesty they offer. I spoke with my mom every day for an entire year as we constantly edited and revised ideas that we wanted and were trying to implement. Because our moms live in different states AND our venue was in a different state, the planning process demanded a great deal of traveling. As a result, much of our wedding was the product of collaboration that extended across the United States in one aspect or another which ultimately reflected who we are as a couple. As exhausting as it felt at the time, we wouldn’t have had it any other way.

DIY Wedding:
assume you will save money Not all DIY projects will put your wedding budget in the black. Project costs can quickly add up as mistakes and miscalculations have you purchasing extra supplies and especially if you end up throwing in the towel and hiring a pro at the last minute. In the end, it can be cheaper and easier to work with a professional from the get-go, saving you the hassle, time and wasted money.
be realistic about your craftiness keep in mind you are responsible for setup (and clean-up) After spending weeks creating personal favors, programs and menu cards, these items must move from living room to wedding venue. I can’t tell you how many exhausted DIYers come wedding week are stuck setting out and cleaning up these projects on wedding day. But you don’t have to be. Give yourself a break, and see if your wedding planner, caterer or venue staff can take over the set-up (and clean up!). Most will be more than happy to help, leaving you to sit back and enjoy your wedding.
I have a love/hate relationship with Martha Stewart. With ethereal precision, she makes even the most tedious and complicated of crafts appear effortlessly mundane and obvious. I have learned that I am no Martha... none of us are. Find DIY success by being realistic about your crafting skills (and available time). With so many other things to worry about on wedding day, aspiring to be a professional shouldn’t be one of them.
try something for the first time Procrastinate The second most common mistake (after assuming you’re a crafting goddess) is waiting until the last minute. Case and point, it took me almost 8 months to stop thinking about refinishing my desk and getting to it. And I am still contemplating changing out the drawer pulls. Decoupaging hundreds of tiny votives placecards seems easy enough. Until you are wrist-deep in white goop, pulling all-nighters leading up to wedding day while you second guess the finished look. Assume all wedding-related crafting will take much longer than expected. Worse-case scenario, you can still hand things off to the pros if finishing looks unlikely.
I catch myself saying all the time, “Well, that looks easy enough!” Of course I needed 40 grit sandpaper, not 80! Yeah... so I don’t even know the real difference between 40, 80 or under what circumstances they are most appropriate. While I have no problem bumbling through trial-and-error projects, likely never to see the light of day, weddings are different. Under immense stress to figure out how all this wedding planning works, learning a new skill within the same timeline can be overwhelming. Save yourself the stress and hand off first-time projects to professionals.
Kira Sparks & Sean Lammers 06.09.12 Love Story: We met while working at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Charlotte, NC. We both started our careers there right after finishing college. We were friends for around 5 years before we starting dating. One year after we started dating, Sean popped the question during a hiking trip in Asheville, NC.
Kira Sparks & Sean Lammers
Wedding Details: We were engaged for approximately 8.5 months. We did not hire a wedding planner. Thankfully, we had seven bridesmaids that were very helpful in the planning process. I also have two sisters who spent a lot of time meeting with vendors and finalizing details. We live in Charlotte, NC, and most of our guests were traveling from out of town to celebrate with us on our wedding day. We wanted to make it easy for our guests traveling and make sure they had fun once they arrived. We created a wedding website and included the link on Keeping in line with the look and feel of the venue, we went with a more traditional style / theme. We chose white and pale pink flowers, navy chiffon dresses for the bridesmaids, and grey suites with navy ties for the groomsmen. Wedding Day: One fond memory that we both still laugh about today is the best man speech given by the groom’s brother. His brother recalled several childhood memories and spoke of the admiration that he had for Sean and how that admiration has grown as they have gotten older. Specifically, he recalled that he was most proud to call Sean his brother the day he told him he was starting a new hobby…home brewing. WEdding Advice: The best advice we can give a bride and groom planning their wedding is to step back, relax, and enjoy the process. Don’t stress over the small details because most people won’t notice anyway. Try to focus on the time you get to spend with each other and with your closets friends and family planning your big day. Your wedding day passes by so quickly, and it is hard to remember everything. Take a few moments on your wedding day to just look around and enjoy being surrounded by so many of your loved ones who have gathered to celebrate your new life together.

how to
Choose Your Bridesmaids Wisely
This no-drama guide will help you quit stressing over which ladies to choose for your bridal party! “Why did I ever ask her to be a bridesmaid? She’s insane!”
I cannot tell you how often I have heard these words from brides a month or two before their wedding. For whatever reason – be it number of attendants on the groom’s side, stress, or guilty association – some brides twist themselves in knots over which girls to choose for bridesmaids or (gasp!) the Maid of Honor. In a haste to make everyone who thinks she should be part of your bridal party happy, you ask ladies you really do not know well. Before you know it, you have a small army of attendants you rarely see until just before the wedding. Not cool! Every decision you make about your attendants can have a resounding effect on the moods surrounding the festivities both before and during your wedding day. Keep the following quick tips in mind before popping the big question to your girls!
1. Choose a friend or family member who will take being your bridesmaid seriously.
This means she will try to move her schedule around to help with your DIY tasks when she can, will listen to you rant about your wedding woes (but will stop you before you go over the edge!), and will even help plan your bridal shower. Then, she will actually commit to being at the shower. Make sure the lady you ask is tons of fun and would be willing to cut-up to relieve your stress - but she truly must be dependable, too. If someone you have in mind tends to RSVP to your get-togethers or parties and then doesn’t come, and you learn about the other party she went to instead via photos on Facebook, she is likely not bridesmaid material…no matter how fun she can make a party (if she actually arrives).
2. Choose attendants you can see yourself having strong friendships with well into the future.
Harsh as it sounds, asking ladies you do not expect to continue friendships with after you are married ultimately dates your
wedding. Honor your closest friends and family with this role – not the girls in your best friend’s group with whom you rarely spoke.
3. You do not have to have the same number of attendants on both sides.
So what if your groom has five guys, and you only chose four girls? It is really not that big of an issue. Leave your number where it is if it means you might ask someone you will regret choosing later. Keep in mind that having more maids means more bouquets, more bridal party gifts, and more miscellaneous costs, too.
4. Scared that choosing a Maid of Honor will hurt someone else’s feelings?
Do not be. The other ladies should understand that it is not necessarily a game of favorites. (Okay…maybe it is. Just a little.) If feelings do get hurt, let your other maids know that you chose your MOH for her planning and visionary abilities. You probably also chose her for her ability to nip drama in the bud before it starts, which is a must with almost any group of girls in a high-stress situation! The day is about you, and your MOH will be with you more than anyone else throughout the day. In other words, it is okay to have favorites here.
5. Think of the bottom line in the end!
Getting married is one of the most exhilarating experiences of your life. Cherish it with the ladies who have made your journey more meaningful because they have been a part of it! When it comes to choosing your attendants, I always say to think before you ask. Sleep on it. Chat with your future hubby about it. In the end, only pick the girls you are closest to. After all, if you are close to someone, you likely already know if she is “insane,” and you can save yourself the unpleasant surprise of finding out later! by Pink Lady Andrea
