Editor’s Letter When I set out to start this project, I thought it would be fun to do a magazine. But, I didn’t realize how much work goes into putting an issue together. But, I also, discovered how much fun it is putting together a magazine. In the past few months, I’ve made some new friends and learned a few things. I wanted a magazine for women like me...who love fashion, beauty, traveling, gadgets, art, books, design and experiencing new things. I am also fascinated by menswear. The tailoring required to create a mans suit is phenomenal. Also most women, buy clothes for the men in their lives, so why not introduce them to some new collections they can share with the men in their lives. The Premier Issue is filled with lots of goodies. We have a great Jason Wu color story with pieces perfect for every occasion. Then there’s a look at the chicest store in Charlotte, North Carolina, Capitol. This beautiful 6,000 square foot store is a girl’s shopping fantasy. Thanks to cover girl Andria Mitsakos who shared her amazing Dea Rosa Spring/ Summer handbag and accessories collection with us. Celebrity Manicurist Deborah Lippmann shows us the latest trend for Spring nails...it’s magnetic. Ashley Goforth gives a few tips on dressing the bedroom. Luxury lingerie brand I.D. Sarreri gives us a peek at their Spring/Summer undies and you’ll want every piece in the collection. Illustrator Inslee Haynes gives new meaning to sketching. And to celebrate Mr. Porter’s first birthday, I have asked the online purveyor for a little help with some Spring Essentials and Occasion dressing for the guys. The first part in this series is about dressing for your date. Every man and woman will appreciate this guide. And I’m trying to figure out how I can spend the weekend in one of those fashion suites at the St. Regis in New York. I wonder if I can us my points? Thank you to everyone that contributed to this issue. One down a lot more to go.

“Red Lipstick ” There are some many stories about red lipstick and why it’s so popular. Ask any woman which of her mother’s lipsticks she played with growing up and she’ll say “red”. Red lipstick is to women what duct tape is to men. It’s perfect for every occasion. And just like there are different types of duct tape, there are different shades of red lipstick. No matter how much or how little makeup you wear, you need a red lipstick. Red lipstick is a classic that never goes out of style. In fact, every season, beauty brands introduce new shades of the alluring color. Among the many attributes associated with red lipstick, the most common is “confidence”. Ask any woman to describe how she feels when she has on her favorite red lipstick and you’re likely to hear, “Confident”, “Powerful” or “Sexy”. It’s been said that when a man meets a woman he is instantly drawn to her lips and when her lips are covered in

GIRLIE LUXE Wish List ! There’s one item or twelve every season a woman puts on her list. And if she doesn’t get it, she pushes it back to the following season. Or she starts a savings fund for it. She carefully studies it and notes any updates, hoping the previous version is on sale. If it’s a classic bag or shoes, she’ll scour every designer vintage shop or auction in search of that one item. Some call it obsession, we call it investment shopping. Most fantasy pieces are collectibles and if properly cared for...that’s right cared for. This means keeping a fine leather or exotic skin handbag in it’s cloth storage bag. Treating it with the proper cleaning products. These fantasy or wish items are meant to be passed on to appreciative generations to come. ! Let’s start our list with the Hermes Birkin. As any Fashionista to name the top three bags on her wish list and will be in the number one position. The more exotic the skin, the more valuable. Men have their cars and we have our bags and shoes.

Conversation with Designer Andria Mitsakos

Designers are creative people by nature. But sometimes even they don’t understand that their love for design originated from someone in their past. I have read a few biographies are have seen a common theme...family. Andria Mitsakos, designer and founder of Dea Rosa grew up shuttling across the globe with her family. Traveling like this gave her an appreciation for the experiencing different cultures and design aesthetics. Dea Rosa is a tribute to her grandmother Rose, a sample shoemaker who was ahead of her time when it came to understanding the skills required to craft shoes. In 2010, the same year her grandmother celebrated her 100th birthday, Dea Rosa was born.

Punta Mita, Mexico, which is a magical place to be and it feels like home. I have a strong affinity for the Caribbean too, preferably island hopping by small, private plane. Fantasy spot? There's a few new spots off the coast of Cambodia I have been wanting to see, and I still haven't been to Easter Island.

What was your inspiration for this collection? The summer winds of the Greek Islands.

What are your vacation essentials? For any warm weather local, I can do two weeks of days and nights with only Miguelina caftans like the white lace one featured in the look book. She has gorgeous style and I just toss in a slip to wear under them at night. I try to go places where I can be barefoot as much as humanly possible, but when I need to wear shoes, my daytime go-to are K Jacques sandals, and for night, I have a great pair of Alexander McQueen gladiators in a black gold. If you travel as often as I do, an absolute staple is a pair of earplugs and a Dea Rosa sleep mask. I never leave home without my fave little carryall, the Fontelina (from SS11) which has EVERYTHING in it‌passport, wallet, currency from a few countries, lucky charm, Rosebad salve lip balm in strawberry flavor, etc (we're bringing the style back for AW12). Other staples are a selection of Missoni bikinis, my iPad to watch films when I can't sleep. I love my Kindle to read books on the beach and I always have my sketchbook to record inspiration wherever and whenever I see it.

What's your favorite piece in this collection? The Zephyros evening bag.

What's your style motto or philosophy? Effortless always wins.

What's your favorite or fantasy vacation spot? Patmos, Amorgos - I had SUCH a memorable evening in Amorgos while shooting the SS12 look book, but I love all of the Greek islands, preferably floating around the Aegean on the Harmony G, a gorgeous yacht my client, Variety Cruises, owns. I spend about a week a month in

How would you describe your personal style? A bohemian Audrey Hepburn

What motivated you to start your company? I noticed a void in the market for well-priced exotic skin bags and accessories that were wearable for anyone from age 25-65. Simple, youthful chic designs that were easy to pair whether you were having aperitivo in Milan or dinner in Shanghai. The Dea Rosa client is very much like me; a fiercely independent woman, who makes her own decisions, takes risks and will jump on a plane and fly off to anywhere for dinner, a good laugh, love or just to get some miles.

What shade of pink best describes you? The color of the sand at Pink Sands on Harbour Island, in The Bahamas

c a p i t o l Boutique in Charlotte, North Carolina is considered the best boutique in the city and that’s a title it has earned. And like most businesses it was birthed out of “need.” When owner Laura Vinroot Poole and her husband relocated from Raleigh to Charlotte, she didn’t have a place to shop. But she wasn’t alone, quite a few fashionable Charlotte women were trekking to Atlanta, Charleston and New York. So she and her husband Perry gave birth to capitol boutique. Fast forward to a beautiful 6,000 square foot space with a 750 square foot courtyard featuring a vertical garden by famed Parisian Botanist Patrick Blanc. The store’s interior is jaw dropping minimalist. The decor is a mix of French and American antiques by Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand and Edward Wormley. It feels more like a home than a store. It’s the perfect place to spend the afternoon with your best girlfriends.

Ashley Goforth

Dressing the Bedroom Masculine ~Feminine

Why did you go into Interior Design?

I have always loved rearranging and redecorating rooms. Even when I was a little girl, I envisioned my room with vaulted ceilings and french doors. I think the interest in creating beautiful environments struck me at a young age so I continued to pursue that interest.

When did you start your company? I created Ashley Goforth Design in 2005 after friends started to ask me to help them with their own homes. Several pleased clients and a few referrals later, I branched out on my own and started my own company.

Describe your style?

I like bedrooms to be soft but still strong at the same time, so I think this observation is correct! 1. Mix Materials If you do an upholstered bed - add wooden or mirrored side tables next to it. The softness of the headboard will contrast against the strength of the wood or glass.

ashleygo forth@ mac.co m

I believe my style is best described as Transitional, or a mix of traditional and contemporary pieces or elements. I like furnishings to have different backgrounds, come from different eras, and combine a mix of materials. I always want the end result of my rooms to feel collected, like you have assembled your belongings over a period of time.

50 | Haute Pink

Your bedroom looks combine equal parts of masculine and feminine. What things can our reader do to get that same feeling?

2. Add Draperies Draperies instantly soften a bedroom and give it a glamorous/ feminine touch. 3. Try to Incorporate Different Shapes If you do a camelback or more fluid shaped bed, do squared off nights stands. And vice versa: If you do a square bed- try round tables.

4. Experiment with Various Textures in your fabrics Linen with Silk, wool sateen with mohair. Even if everything is the same color - the materials fibers will all reflect light uniquely and give them each a different depth and interest.

Its all about the +plus/-minus of things! Opposites Attract! I see you do a lot of padded headboards and crisp white linens. Is this your signature bedroom look?

I guess it has become my signature look! I do love an upholstered headboard: There are an infinite number of combinations to give each client a

custom creation. Between the fabric colors, shapes and differing upholstery details each one is unique and individual. White linens are a must! They always look clean and give the bed a break from all of its surroundings.

Advice on hiring an interior designer.

Go with the designer that you most associate your style/ tastes with. Interior Design is similar to a work of art: It is an initial attraction to the dialogue of hundreds of elements in a room. It is an emotional response so go with that someone whose rooms make you have that WOW! feeling. Once you have found that artist research on how they work and charge and ask for referrals.

Provocative...retro...romantic...sexy...sensual. ..these five words best describe the Spring - Summer collection of luxury lingerie brand I.D. Sarreri. Lingerie has gone from being just an under garment or tool of seduction to sophisticated secret weapon. Weapon in terms of what it can do. Not only is your bra supposed to hold up your breasts, it’s also supposed to seduce the man you’re wearing it for. This brand has merged both tasks into a beautiful collection. Ask any woman what she wants from her bra and she’ll probably say, “support, something that’s pretty, sexy and comfortable.” I.D. Sarreri fulfills that list. I.D. Sarreri is a brand known in the chicest of lingerie trousseaus. The woman who wears I.D. Sarreri is also likely to be very fashion forward. She knows what she wears on the inside has to be just as fashionable as what she wears on the outside. She wants the same options and attention to detail in her lingerie as she has in her ready-to-wear. Luxury lingerie such as I.D. Sarreri compliments a woman’s body perfectly. Offering several options in bra and panty shapes. The collection recently added larger cup and back sizes giving more woman an opportunity to add the collection to their lingerie trousseau. The Spring - Summer collection has a mix of brights and pastels embellished with Swarovski crystals, lace and tattoo-like strap details. The silhouette...feminine. The shapes...retro. The fabrics...modern. The over all look...fabulous.

finding your correct bra size

Bra sizing has become the newest trend. Right up there with what’s your FICO score? Finding your correct bra size can be overwhelming and I’m not talking about the math. Once you do the math and know what your real bra size is, is when most women go into shock. Those that haven’t been as blessed are surprised to see they are a little fuller than they imagined. And those who have been abundantly supplied, realize just how blessed they are. No matter how blessed you are, you need to know your size. ! Determining your size is very simple. You don’t need a degree in rocket science nor a calculator. All you need is cloth measuring tape, a pen, a slip of paper and a size chart. And your best fitting bra. !

64 | Haute Pink

First things first...put on your best fitting bra. The one that holds everything in with nothing poking out of the top or sides. If you’re sagging a little, pull the straps until your breasts are aligned in the middle of your chest.

To Find Your Band or Underbust Size: Contrary to what you’ve been taught, the support isn’t in the strap, but in the band. The get the right band size, you need your “Underbust” Size. Use a measuring tape, measure around your ribcage directly under your bust, making sure your tape is parallel to the floor (see example to right). You want this measurement to be as small as possible, remember to breathe out first. Hold the tape flush against your skin, but not so tight it digs. Round all fractional measurements to the nearest whole number. Now Let’s Calculate Your Band Size:

Add (4) to the underbust measurement if it’s an even number, and (5) if it’s an odd number. For example, an underbust that measures 28” is a 32 band size, while a 29” underbust wears a 34 band size.

To Find Your Cup Size: Measure around your bust where you are fullest. (see example to right) Some women carry their fullness in the lower half of their bosom (like a teardrop shape), whereas others are full all over (like a redwine-glass). Where you’re full can affect cup size, so, again with the tape parallel to the floor, make sure to measure at your fullest point. Round all fractional measurements to the nearest whole number. This is your bust measurement. Now Calculate Your Cup Size: Subtract the your underbust measurement from bust measurement. Each inch difference between the bust and underbust measurements equals one cup size. So 1” over is cup A, 2” over is cup B, etc. For example, an underbust size of 28” subtracted from a bust measurement of 32” is 4”, which corresponds to a D cup. Therefore, the bra size is 32D.

images from wikiHow

Remember, it’s not about a number– it’s about the fit. And just like clothing, bra sizing varies significantly by brand and style.

! I think we women have been duped. Some where along the way we were told wearing stockings was only something “Old Ladies” wore. That the modern female only wore stockings in the boudoir. However, it was okay to wear colorful tights in the Fall and Winter, but if you wanted to be considered young, stockings and pantyhose were taboo. Unless of course, you worked in a stuffy corporate environment. ! I’ll admit, it has been quite a while since I bought a pair of pantyhose. Take that back, I bought a pair earlier in the year, but I didn’t wear them. Textured tights, knee-highs, anklets and Spanx have been in strong rotation in my wardrobe, but stockings and pantyhose have been benched. ! I’m not quite sure when it happened or how it happened, but it happened, but “Stockings” are back.

taken seriously without dressing like a man. And what better way to feel feminine than with a beautiful pair of stockings, stay-ups or silky pantyhose on under a fierce business look. " Whether we want to admit it or not, pantyhose can be awkward...if they get twisted while putting them on. But stockings and stay-ups give you a little more freedom. And when a woman knows what she has on underneath her clothes, she moves a little differently...more graceful...confident...sexy...feminine. This change in attitude translates into her daily interaction. ! The new technology in hosiery isn’t what our mother’s grew up with. Today’s stockings and garters aren’t as cumbersome and restrictive. You have options. You can do a traditional garter belt. These are mostly reserved for the boudoir. Or you can do a cute panty that has the garters attached or even provide a little control some extra

Only to be cast aside in the 60s and 70s. Then in the 80s they took on a new spin...textured. We saw dots, stripes, colors, bizarre prints and patterns and the rebirth of the tights. As soon as we got used to wearing them again, the trend turned to no hose at all. " At the start of the new millennium we slowly started making a return to hosiery when we became addicted to body toners and fancy knee socks. Only allowing stockings to appear in the boudoir as a tool of seduction. And like all things in fashion, the tides have turned again. ! Some fashion insiders say the sudden interest in stockings and pantyhose can be attributed to the Middleton sisters, Kate and Pippa. Or maybe it’s all the ladylike dressing that has been gracing the runways and magazine pages the past few seasons. Or maybe we finally believe it’s okay to be feminine in the workplace and still

smoothing and shaping. And if you don’t want to go that route, try a pair of stay-ups. Most designers are offering their trendy looks as pantyhose, stay-ups or stockings. The choice is all yours. " So what should you look for when buying stockings? Good fit. Stockings are sized according to your foot and then your weight. Personally, I go with my weight because I have a more curvy frame. " Contrary to what you may have been told, stockings and stay-ups come in a host of sizes well into the plus size range. Allowing every woman the opportunity to experience this little sexy beauty secret. ! Of course, if you’re wearing something a little more clingy, then it’s pantyhose or a toner like Spanx or Donna Karan. ! Stockings aren’t an everyday accessory, but it’s one to reintroduce into your wardrobe for a little added feminine touch.

I love parfum. Pure parfum is an indulgence sort of like buying expensive shoes. Parfum is a delicate, decadent, treat that can entice, seduce, mesmerize and sedate anyone in it’s presence. Any item that powerful requires special care which most women don’t realize. LIke most women I discovered I had been storing my parfum, eau de parfum, cologne and eau de toilette, in a careless manner.

Storing Your Parfum

Prior to gaining a little knowledge, I proudly displayed my “fragrances” on my dresser facing the window. A window that welcomed in a lot of light towards the end of the day. Not good. In a sense, I was was boiling my parfum. Okay, that was a slight exaggeration, but I was abusing my fine fragrances. Did you know.... Storing your fragrances in direct light, especially sunlight, it can change the chemical makeup and the color of your fragrance. Humidity...the bathroom, more like the steam from the shower isn’t good. Your fragrances don’t like sharing their space. So what’s a girl supposed to do? Keep your fragrances in their original containers with the tops tightly closed to avoid exposure to air. Oh, and here’s another tip. Spray bottles are better...cuts down on the chances of dirt, dust or air sneaking in and gives your fragrances a longer shelf life. Display them, but somewhere away from the sun and humidity...like a tray on your night table or a shelf in your closet. Two great options. Good news, as long as the fragrance has been stored properly, your fragrance can last years...just like an expensive pair of shoes.

The St. Regis is a hotel brand whose reputation speaks for it. When you hear the name the St. Regis, you instantly know what to expect...luxur y, g lamour, sophistication, premier service. These are some of the same words used to describe our favorite stores. And now they can be used to describe two of the most beautiful hotel suites at the St. Regis in New York City. Last June, the St. Regis introduced the Tiffany Suite. Housed on the 14th floor of the legendary Beaux Arts building on Fifth Avenue. The suite captures all the whimsy and luxury of the St. Regis along with the modern and contemporary vision Tiffany. Together they form an new kind of elegance. The Tiffany Suite is 1,700 square feet and features a serene and sophisticate color palette including whites, beiges, charcoal grey and silver. And of course it’s signature turquoise blue.

The Dior Suite is also 1,700 square feet and consists of a bedroom, one-and-a-half bathrooms, a dining room and living room. The best accessory in the Dior has to be the watercolor painting by Bil Donovan. In 2009 he was named Dior Beauty’s first Artist-in-Residence and has painted a commanding piece featured on the living room wall. The large painting pays tribute to Dior through the ages. The Tiffany and the Dior Suite are perfect for holding an intimate party like a bridal shower, rehearsal dinner or even better, the ideal setting for a wedding proposal even a small reception. The rings could come from Tiffany and the wedding couture from Dior.

The Tiffany Suite consists of an entryway foyer, one bedroom, two full baths, a large dining room and a living room complete with a fireplace and large windows overlooking Fifth Avenue up towards Central Park. Like it’s building mate, The Dior Suite, a one-of-a-kind designer suite, on the 12th floor of the legendary St. Regis New York. The minute you enter the suite, you will instantly feel like you are in the famed Dior Atelier. The furnishings and details are based on the pieces found in the Dior stores and Paris Atelier.

No actually! I saw my sketches as something i kept for myself as a creative outlet and always assumed I'd have a career that was separate from this outlet. But as I grew up and learned more about business and the working world I realized that the best work is the work that you love. So the only way for me to feel fulfilled as a professional was to turn my creative outlet into a profession.!

I started my business while I was in college as a way to share my art with friends and family.!

That is hard to chose! Each one is fun for a different reason. I really was excited to get the opportunity to illustrate the Neiman Marcus flagship store in Dallas. It was cool to get to work with such a respected company with such a rich fashion history.

I've been drawing for as long as I can remember, but I've been a working illustrator since I graduated from college in 2008

It was sort of a natural progression, illustration and weddings just go hand in hand! I love working on bridal projects, I always enjoy the stories of the proposals, seeing the wedding dresses and hearing all the little special details that go into the planning of and celebrating of a marriage.!

I think one of the best things about my job is getting to share in the joy that my clients are celebrating. I work with brides and grooms on their portraits, new business owners on creating logos, party planners on invitations, new parents on paintings of their children people celebrating the important milestones in their lives and careers. They share their exciting news with me and I get to capture that joy through illustration. Makes every day a lot of fun!

This changes all the time! I love that there is always someone new to discover and the internet makes it so easy to discover new talent. But an all time favorite is Garance Dore. I love her simple illustration style.!

I love to illustrate bright colors, elegant gowns, and all the new trends. But my style of dressing is much more low key. I wear classic, feminine looks and I love color staples - black, navy and white.!

Well‌ not to completely contradict my last answer, but I am thinking it might be fun to try some colorful skinny jeans this spring? Maybe turquoise? After all spring is the best time of year for trying something new.

What a great question! I love coral-pink. A color somewhere between light red and hot pink.

When I visit the site, it’s like visiting an old friend. Another feature is the the “Style Council”. This diverse group of real sharing their style philosophies and likes is phenomenal. Women call it playing dress up. But for men it’s “Follow Your Fashion Mentor.” Pick a style mentor and do as he does and you won‘t go wrong.

We girls have even been known to have a mini nervous breakdown. Here’s a little known secret, if our date could see our closet or dressing room, he’d be shocked. GADGET GUY

You've probably seen a picture of what looks like a tennis ball in plastic housing. It has no electric powered motor. What looks like a paper-weight is a modern day "productive" This instrument is called a Gyroscopic exercise tool. A few brands have come out with their own version of this device, Dyna-Flex Powerball , NSD Powerball, and DFX Powerball to name a few. I personally have the Dyna-Flex Powerball. It is activated by tugging on the starter cord or swiping your thumb over a smooth surface to get the wheel moving. From there, moving your hand in a circular motion, the gyro inside builds up speeds of 10,000 RPMs.

Dyna-Flex a small powerful wonder by Kevin Hypolite

The benefits of using this apparatus are endless. It's great for those who have rehabilitation needs, from repetitive motion injuries, or arthritis. Professional athletes, musicians, and anyone who wants to strengthen their wrist and arms will appreciate this little gem. Another benefit is pure fun! If you're like me, you will want to master a complex yet simple device. An added benefit of the Dyna-Flex, is it’s portability. You can use this device anywhere; sitting, standing in line, almost anywhere. As the ball spins progressively faster, the more benefits your muscles receive. You can and will see results over time. Even your biceps will get a workout, because they help turn your palm up (Supination) which is involved in keeping the gyro spinning.

122 | Haute Pink

The device takes patience. Some try and give up because they become frustrated it's not working for them. Like anything which has a significant benefit, you have to stick with it. Once you have it mastered, it will be like riding a bike. You might fall off a few times, however, once you've got it, you've got it for life!
