WELCOME TO A NEW SEASON Well it’s the autumn season already – where has this year gone? As we reflect on the year so far our venue has seen many high points in 2015, from Alan Carr opening his tour here to the fantastic Mousetrap production that graced our stage in July. As the summer comes to a close and the colder nights draw in we welcome an array of household names and fantastic one night productions to ensure that there’s something for everyone. Launching our season is one of Ireland’s newest treasures Nathan Carter - definitely a show which is not to be missed. As for bringing a smile or two we have some of the UK’s most loved stand up comics all wrapped into one season for you. Lee Nelson, Paddy McGuinness, Sarah Millican, Sean Lock, Alan Davies, Josh Widdicombe, Arthur Smith and Jimmy Carr complete this season’s line up making it arguably one of our strongest to date. If you missed the chance to get tickets for Jimmy Carr’s initial date please act quickly to secure tickets for the added performance. Kicking off our comedy line up is our very own Friends of the Playhouse patron; the legendary Ken Dodd. September brings our annual Open Day hosted by our very own Friends of the Playhouse giving you an access all areas pass to go behind the scenes and look at the venue. This year we’ll even have our very own make up artist offering face painting for the little ones! October brings the much anticipated, truly spectacular Blood Brothers to our venue. What will be our biggest production to date is definitely

The Playhouse Theatre and Winter Gardens are operated by Parkwood Theatres working in partnership with North Somerset Council

going to be one of the year’s highlights. This year’s production will see Marti Pellow and Maureen Nolan take to the stage in one of the most powerful musicals of all time. In a season jam packed with fantastic music offerings a few dates not to be missed are Rhydian, who recently spent 10 weeks at Number 1 in the Classical charts, Live Nation’s production of UK Salutes Frank, An evening of reminiscing with Lesley Garrett, and The Stylistics return after their fantastic performance last year. For those of you who joined us for the Mousetrap this year I recommend that you take a look at Alan Ayckbourn’s Absent Friends directed by Michael Cabot. Absent Friends is definitely one of Ayckbourn’s finest plays. And lastly the ultimate celebration of 50 year’s of Motown “How Sweet It Is” arrives in November – a show that has been touring some of the UK’s biggest theatres for over 10 years is not to be missed and a guaranteed night of fantastic entertainment. As the month strikes 12 we arrive at the end of the year and what better way to spend it than with Cinderella and her king of the Jungle Joe Swash. This year promises to be our best and biggest pantomime ever. Have a wonderful season, a magical Christmas and a Happy New Year and I look forward to seeing you all over the coming months. Best, Mark Thompson - General Manager

Thursday 19th – Saturday 21st November 7:30pm & 2:30pm (Saturday Matinee) Summer 1974. A well-intentioned tea party descends into chaos. Wealthy, unfulfilled housewife Diana arranges a gathering of old friends to cheer up bereaved Colin, whose fiancée drowned two months earlier. Paul, her bullying, self absorbed husband, has recently had a dalliance with Evelyn, the glamorous wife of his friend and incompetent business associate, John. As lingering resentments and deep-rooted jealousies surface, an unexpectedly cheerful Colin strolls into the mayhem. Acerbic and painfully funny, Absent Friends explores friendship, marriage and what it ultimately means to be happy. In one of his finest plays, Ayckbourn’s craftsmanship and acute social observation have never been sharper or more biting.

We are a voluntary organisation established to promote and support the theatre. The Friends have contributed towards many key features of the theatre such as the stage curtains, grand piano and stair lift. The Friends have also played a vital part in modernising the theatre; funding the cost of a new PA system and installation of LED lighting throughout front of house and the bar. The Friends also provide volunteer staff to take tickets, sell programmes and welcome patrons upon visiting the theatre. Additionally they assist with marketing and promotions, organise social events throughout the year and host Saturday coffee mornings. Members are entitled to a 15% discount off the top ticket price (excluding booking fee) for shows stating Friends of the Playhouse discount - one discount per member. Application forms are available in the foyer.
