WELCOME TO A NEW SEASON It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Summer season here at the Playhouse Theatre. With fantastic tribute performances from Whitney: Queen of the Night, Simon and Garfunkel Story, The Elvis Years, Name of the Game, Forever Jackson and Rhapsody Queen amongst others the summer brings a variety of acts to suit everyone. Comedy is provided with the arrival of Claire Sweeney in Sex in Suburbia, Roy Chubby Brown, Rod Woodward and we also welcome our first Live at the Playhouse night. Our Literary Festival continues with the arrival of Jessica Fellowes to tell us all about A Day in the life of Downton Abbey and Facing the Music: Patricia Routledge who will joined by Edward Seckerson, be taking us on a journey looking at her career. Our younger audience members will be entertained by Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom, Basil Brush and The Gruffalo. In September we welcome back our very own friends of the playhouse patron, Ken Dodd with his Happiness Show, early booking is highly recommended. July brings our largest production to date, Agatha Christies The Mousetrap arrives from London’s west end. The Mousetrap continues to be the longest running show in the history of British theatre and even the world! The 60th Anniversary – and first ever - UK tour of this beloved murder mystery has been seen by over 600,000 people across more than 600 performances and breaking box office records in many of its venues. Tickets are already booking very quickly so please act fast to avoid disappointment. October sees our first large scale production as Marti Pellow arrives in the west end hit musical Blood Brothers. The first professional musical direct from London’s west end at The Playhouse promises to offer a fantastic experience due to the intimate environment that the venue provides. We are also delighted to announce presenter of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here Now!, Joe Swash as our Buttons in this year’s pantomime Cinderella. Joe will star alongside last year’s Wendy, Sophie Adams. ‘Yeh Yeh’ Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames Friday 22 May 7.30pm Born on 26th June 1943 in the industrial town of Leigh, Lancashire, his interest in music grew from family entertainment “sessions” at home and musical evenings in the church hall across the street where his father played in an amateur dance band. In March 1962, Georgie Fame and The Blue Flames became resident at The Flamingo Club in London’s Soho district.

Sunday 26 July 3pm In Conversation with Edward Seckerson It is one of the best kept secrets in show business that Patricia Routledge trained not only as an actress but also as a singer and had considerable success in musical theatre, both in the UK and America. Her one woman show Come for the Ride toured the UK in 1988 and in 1992 she played Nettie Fowler in the highly acclaimed production of Carousel at the National Theatre. In this fascinating encounter with the writer and broadcaster EDWARD SECKERSON she recalls this very special part of her career with access to some rare and treasured recordings. We are a voluntary organisation established to promote and support the theatre. The Friends have contributed towards many key features of the theatre such as the stage curtains, grand piano and stair lift. The Friends have also played a vital part in modernising the theatre; funding the cost of a new PA system and installation of LED lighting throughout front of house and the bar. The Friends also provide volunteer staff to take tickets, sell programmes and welcome patrons upon visiting the theatre. Additionally they assist with marketing and promotions, organise social events throughout the year and host Saturday coffee mornings.
