The closing date for entries, which must be accompanied by the necessary entry fees, is 28th Feb. 2015 Late entries may not be accepted. The age of competitors is taken as the age on 1 st January 2015. Accuracy in birth dates is essential. Incorrect age may lead to disqualification and, in cases of doubt, a birth certificate or other proof of age may need to be produced. The time limit for a dance may not be exceeded under any circumstances. Timing will commence on the first note or sound played and a bell will be sounded if the competitor over-runs the time stated in the syllabus. Competitors must leave the stage as soon as the bell has sounded. Competitors up to and Including 9 -10 yrs may be permitted to re-start a dance ONCE only. Competitors in duet and trio classes may only enter the class ONCE In Group classes, teachers may enter as many groups as they wish provided that no competitor performs more than TWICE in any one group class. A minimum of FIVE dancers constitute a group Only artificial flowers may be used on stage. Any competitor using natural flowers will be disqualified. The Committee have the power to combine classes or separate classes where necessary. The committee also have the power to make any other regulations or to interpret or qualify any of these rules as the occasion arises. The Junior Art Festival does not accept liability for the infringement of copyright, recording or performing rights arising out of any competitor’s accompaniment or performance. The use of FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO during ANY performance is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Competitors must however be prepared to perform for Media photos or agents of the Weston Junior Arts Festival. The Adjudicators decision is final. No discussion or correspondence concerning such decisions will be allowed. Communication with the Adjudicator is absolutely prohibited and the committee may disqualify a competitor for any breach of the rules. The stage and stage-wings are out of bounds to all except persons and competitors about to perform. Competitors who have completed their dance must leave the area and only return to the stage-wings three numbers before the end of the class. Authorised persons include ONE Teacher or assistant from each school sole purpose of assisting with any props.

Pointe work is not permitted for any competitor under 13 years of age on 1st January 2015. Gymnastics dance is permitted provided that it is combined with a dance technique. The upper age limit for competitors in the Junior Arts Festival is 21 years of age on the 1/1/15 No dancers aged 16 years or over may compete in the Junior Arts Festival if they are presently receiving or have received full time vocational dance training within the last 3 years. Competitors in SOLO classes must perform in their correct age grouping. In DUET, TRIO and GROUP classes the age grouping will be taken as that of the oldest competitor. All performances using music from shows in current production are subject to copyright law. Songs from shows in current production may be performed as a concert item (i.e. with no costumes or movement) without the need of copyright permission. Where movement or costumes are included in a performance copyright permission is required, and the Junior Arts Festival accepts these entries on the basis that the appropriate copyright permission has been sought. Performers or teachers with queries on how to obtain copyright permission for performance items should contact Festivals House on 0906 302 1302 * before making entries. (*Calls cost maximum of 50p per minute). The Junior Arts Festival excepts no responsibility for competitors who do not adhere to the above. TAP – fixed tap (single sound) only may be used, TAPES –recordings on a cassette tape/CDS/ must have nothing else but a single recording at the beginning of the appropriate side. Cassette tapes/CDS/ must be clearly marked with the NAME. CLASS NUMBER and ENTRY NUMBER as shown against competitor’s name in the Official Programme. All tapes/CDS/ must be pre-set and handed to operator on the TABLE side of stage. In Song and Dance classes pre-recorded vocal is not permitted. No entry fees will be refunded and the Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry. First place medals will be awarded in each class. TROPHIES – Trophies remain the property of the Junior Arts Festival and will be kept in the Theatre on display throughout the year – a small keepsake will be given to winners. The Committee reserve the right to commence any class up to 30 minutes earlier than published.
CHILD PROTECTION POLICY
INTRODUCTION The Junior Arts Festival (JAF) is concerned about the welfare and safety of all its participants and will do everything possible to create an ethos in which children feel secure. This Policy relates to children under the age of 18 years and those vulnerable adults of any age who are identified to the Organisers prior to their arrival at the Festival. The JAF will ensure that All members of the J.A.F who will wear identifying badges, are aware of the Child Protection Policy procedure and can be approached to direct any child or adult with a problem to a senior member who will offer assistance. Appropriate support is provided to all members of the team. RESPONSIBILITIES
This policy is provided to inform and involve parents/guardians/carers and teachers in order to ensure as far as it is reasonable practical, a safe environment at the Festival. Where parents/guardians/carers are not personally attending with their children. JAF draws their attention to all aspects of this Child Protection Policy and requires them to be satisfied that their children will be accompanied to the Festival adequately supervised by responsible adults acting on their behalf. This Policy makes it clear that JAF expects parents/guardians to be responsible for ensuring that performers under 18 have adequate supervision at all times in dressing rooms and front of house areas. Once in the wings of the stage, JAF personnel will supervise performers.
PROCEDURES
Where children or adults express problems or concerns, these will be documented and dated. The JAF organiser will decide what action needs to be taken and may seek advice from appropriate agencies. Guidelines on confidentiality will be observed. The JAF organiser will make brief notes as soon as possible after any incident and retain these, confidentially and securely, for future reference.
IMPLEMENTATION
This Child Protection Policy appears in your programme and will be displayed on a notice board in the theatre. We will regularly review our policy in line with legislation and good working practices.

Moderate – A performance showing development of technique and/or communication. Fair – A performance limited in its communication.
MUSIC
All music should be recorded at the beginning of a good quality tape. Timings should be regularly checked, as tapes stretch with frequent use. All cuts in music should be invisible, without gaps and with clean finishes.
We will accept CD’s Tapes or Mini Discs, but all dances must be on a separate Tape, Mini Disc or CD marked clearly with the candidates Name and Class No on it.
