Czech garnet…. red as blood, full of secrets, passions and magic. Did you know that the Czech garnet is, among other garnets mined in many locations in the world, as unique as the Colombian emeralds or the Burmese rubies? Garnets also have many legends. For centuries they have been considered as a stone of pilgrims and travelers who wore them as a talisman. According to legend, Noah had a lamp made of a garnet on his ark, which helped him navigate the ship in the evening darkness. It was rumored that glowing night garnets would protect their wearer from evil. In the Middle Ages, the Knights used the garnets not only for decoration, but also for their protective power from injuries, as it gave the warriors a sense of immortality. Another legend claims that tiny crystals of red garnets are fossilized drops of blood of the gods. Garnets symbolize fire, blood, and the heart, making it a favorite gift for wedding anniversaries or romantic gestures. Let yourself be inspired by the beauty of the Czech garnet, get to know its power and strength…. Today, Granát Turnov is the largest producer of jewelry made with unique Czech garnets., including the Czech garnet. It was created by the unification of smaller private companies of goldsmith tradesmen in 1953. In order to ensure the production of jewellery, Granát Turnov obtained an exclusive license to extract Czech garnets and became the owner of the mines which extract the raw garnet material. The original Czech garnet jewellery, made by the traditional manufacturer Granát, d.u.v. Turnov, is seen as one of the symbols of the Czech Republic. It is not only popular in our country, but sought after by foreign tourists, who take it as an exceptional souvenir.
There’s only one true Czech Garnet...Granát Turnov The cooperative is the owner of the trademark and of origin "Czech Garnet" and "Czech Garnet Jewellery". The Garnet team is registered with the hallmark and guarantees the authenticity of the precious metals and stones used. Each Ceramic Garnet comes with a Certificate of Gems and, together with the G-brand Gemstone, guarantees stone foundations and jewellery. Today's collection features a plethora of classical models that have been expanded over the last few years to modern jewellery design. This combination of Czech garnet and moldavin is very popular and this collection includes men's jewellery, children’s jewellery and also symbolic jewellery, such as crosses, hearts, stars, moon signs, letters and animals. We also offer a collection of ladies silver watches, gift items, glass and jewellery, all made from Czech garnet.

like our page and send us a message. The legend of Golem has an ancient history with ties to Prague. As Jewish legend has it, the brainless glob was made of clay and served his owner. But for us, we see Golem as something also with Prague origins... a robot. The term robot of course was first used by Karel Čapek in his play R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots), which was published in 1920. Our handy Chatbot was developed in collaboration with Data Science Laboratory at the Faculty of Information Technology, Czech Technical University in Prague, with special thanks going to
Pavel Kordík, David Příhoda and Jakub Drdák. We’d also like to thank our friends at GoOut and Geneea company for providing their Natural Language Processing API. We would like to also thank Helen Johnson who led our team of staff writers with data. Located near the Prague Castle, we at The Visitor are more than happy to help with any extra information you may need. Check out our past issues online, or search for us on Facebook to keep up to date with everything going on in Prague. We’ll see you next month!

Keen to learn something about the Czechs…but too afraid to ask? The Royal Theatre presents an original One Man Show starring Tomáš Vaňek.What’s ‘řízek’, how and why do people drink beer, what’s going on with that sandal and sock combo and who exactly is Karel Gott? French native Jean Christophe Gramont, the man behind in the play, didn’t know either when he first arrived here 14 years ago. Now he’s decided to write a play about his journey towards becoming a Czech. We the two brothers at K have designed the décor of the restaurant in the spirit of what Kapurthala , a European holiday retreat could have looked like. MARINA RISTORANTE
Full disclosure - athough they do advertise in our magazine, they're not paying us to say this... It's just a fact... Marina Restaurant has a great view (in addition to their great food). The stationary boat turned Italian restaurant does get busy, so you'll need to book ahead. Insider tip: right now, the sun sets early, so it's easier to get a table and a shot like the one we took here.
KAFKA STATUE
The eleven-metre-tall statue created by local artist David Černý is a technical marvel that’s already found internet fame. Its forty-two rotating panels rotate to align and create the face of famous Czech writer Franz Kafka. The statue can be found at Narodni Trida, tucked just behind the Quadrio Shopping Centre. Quadrio’s newly opened food court and its superb shopping make it a great destination by itself.

FROM PRAGUE CASTLE
There's several ways to get to Prague Castle, but we recommend walking up the scenic Nerudova Street. We think one of the best Instagram shots can be found from the stairs walking up to the castle complex and looking back at Mala Strana, where you'll see the dome of Saint Nicholas Church peeking up over the city scape. To find this spot, walk up Nerudova and turn right at Golden Star Hotel.
Best Places IN PRAGUE TO
You know the basics already... Charles Bridge, the Astronomical Clock, but here's our list of a few of our favourite places we've discovered over the past few years. So, grab your phone and happy Instagramming!
BY CAROLINE EVASHAVIK
KAVÁRNA SLÁVIA
Slavia serves up plenty of romantic and nostalgic idealistic moments for your instagram. With huge glass windows overlooking passing trams and Prague Castle or the National Theatre in the background , you'll find plenty of likes here. The Art Deco interior also boasts plenty of insta-moments, especially if there's live music from the tuxedo adorned pianist who is a fixture at the café.
GRÉBOVKA @ HAVLÍČEK GARDENS
Sitting in a city park and drinking wine is a popular spring and summer activity in the Czech Republic, but in Grébovka Vineyard in Vinohrady it's a natural activity. In addition to the beautiful grounds of Havlíček Gardens, the park houses a fully functioning vinyard, which once served as the summer home of the industrialist Moritz Gröbe, there's a pavilion with a café which serves up traditional Czech wines with an amazing view.
THE KLEMENTINUM LIBRARY
The Klementinum was founded in 1556 by the Jesuits, and it houses over 20,000 rare books, but forget thatwe're here for the eye candy. The buildings are unique because they are are all Baroque-style structures that really can’t be found in many other places in the world, and the library is consistently voted as one of the most beautiful in the world.

THE UPSIDE DOWN HORSE
Another sculpture created by local artist David Černý "In Utero" adornes Lucerna Palace's central atrium. The dead horse ridden by St. Wenceslas is an ironic twist on the St. Wenceslas statute in the square outside and is always a popular site to grab a photo or two.
PRAGUE ZOO
Located on the bank of a river Vitava, right next to the Troja Castle, this zoo is ranked the fifth best in the whole world. There are 4600 different animals, many of which can’t be found at any other zoo in the entire world. Insider tip: turn your flash off in the batcave, Bruce Wayne.
KUTNÁ HORA
The "Bone Church" (Sedlec Ossuary) is what most people think of when they head to Kutna Hora. The ossuary is estimated to contain the skeletons of between 40,000 and 70,000 people - many of which famously adorn the chapel as decor. But, we recommend a photo collecting trip to Kutna Hora for the nearby jaw-dropping Gothich era Cathedral of St Barbara as well, which is also UNESCO world heritage site.
DANCING HOUSE
The Frank Ghery designed building has quite a few Insta-moments just by itself - especially if there's a good exhibit going on (like the current Lada exhibit). However, we think the panoramic terrace view at The Glass Bar is spectucular, particularly at sunset. You'll have to buy a drink to go outside (we recommend the hot chocolate), but trust us, it's worth it.
LETNÁ BEER GARDEN
Perched high atop the city and ajoining the park with the same name, Letna Beer Garden comes alive as the weather warms up. Dozns of picnic tables sit underneath a canopy of trees with an incredible scenic view of the city. Beer is cheap and there's food to fuel your photo session. You'll usually find an ecclectic mix of locals, tourists and expats chatting, playing music, or chilling out with their dogs.
KAMPA PARK
Yeah, yeah... you're thinking "Thanks, Captain Obvious", but hear us out. As you wander from Charles Bridge towards Kampa, you'll likely go past the tree lined area of Na Kampě. When you get just past a hotel called "Archibald By Charles Bridge", hang a left to the river side. You'll probably find swans hanging out and an incredible view of Charles Bridge. This is one of our favourite secret photo spots.
VYŠEHRAD
We've said it before and we'll say it again - Vysehrad is under-rated. The complex houses arguably the most significant Christian Church in the Czech Republic. More importantly, though, is the castle was built in 925AD and it took more than 525 years to build. The graveyard here is home to countless signifcant Czech heroes, including Antonín Dvořák, Alphonse Mucha, and Karel Čapek. Vysehrad is famously quiet and tourist-free.
MALÁ STRANA
It may actually mean Lesser Town, but when it comes to insta-photographic moments, Malá Strana is tops. We think it's insta-worthy any time, but like Vysehrad, our suggestion is to come at night, when the tourists have gone and just wander (it's safe, don't worry). Winding historical cobblestoned streets and amazing views of the castle provide wonderful opportunities.
PETŘÍN TOWER
Also known as “Prague’s Eiffel Tower,” the Petřín Tower is surrounded by rose gardens, and on a clear day you can see the the entirety of Prague and all of its ancient churches and castles and beautiful architecture. On the clearest of days you can even see the highest point in all of the Czech Republic.

U SADU
The first time we wandered into U Sadu, it was 1:30am and we'd just completed a night of what we'll call "field work" for the magazine (aka drinking). Located near Zizkov TV Tower, U Sadu is one of the few options in Prague open after midnight serving food. But don't let that distinction put them into a lesser category. The food is great pub-style food. We've been several times since during the day and evening for their dishes like chicken wings, various kinds of cheese and klobasas, and typical Czech dishes like goulash. Also noteworthy - their selection of beer, usually ten on tap, including their own homebrew. Find U Sadu at Škroupovo nám. 1282/5 in Žižkov (Prague 3). You can also find them online at www.usadu.cz

Smetanovo nábř. 1012/2, Praha 1
www.cafeslavia.cz For decades, Slavia has been the pre-show or post-show stop for guests going to the National Theatre across the street. With a live piano player, mirrored ceilings and a beautiful view of the Vltava River - you’ll feel like you’re living in the mid-20th Century. And, if you’re hungry for a full meal, try next door, the food at their sister restaurant Parnas is as amazing as the views. T: Národní divadlo

We just wanted to build a cool bar. What we found was unexplainable, and completely terrifying. Introducing Prague’s most haunted bar and fear house.
We are the first fear house in Central Europe. Do you like horror stories and adrenalin? We are here for you. This scary tour of our underground space of more than 500 m2 will give you an unforgettable experience full of suspense. Come alone or with your friends or colleagues. The Fear House also has a horror bar where you can enjoy frighteningly good signature drinks, burgers, wings and more.

“This is by far the best burger I have ever had, anywhere in the world. I can't even explain how good the burger was (ironically the server made a bit of fun of me because I ordered the plain old "craft burger" instead of one of their specialty burgers, but it was awesome!). They also have some very good beers to choose from. - Brian H from Chicago, TripAdvisor Review

First let people off, before you get on. If someone elderly gets on, give up your seat. It’s not just curtious, it’s expected here. To fit in on the metro and trams wear your headphones. If you don’t have headphones, then play with your phone instead, or read a book or this magazine. If you’ve been drinking, don’t act like an idiot, even with friends.
Public Transport Tips:
Tram and Metro Map Late Night: After midnight, trams switch to “Night Service”, which includes a whole new schedule that can be a bit confusing - especially if you’ve had a few drinks. Our recommendation - call an Uber or Liftago or use a taxi to get to your destination.

THE PRAGUE VISITOR | March 2018
Czech Easter Traditions By Nicki Schedler While generally regarded as one of the most secular countries in Europe, The Czech Republic and Prague in particular have a variety of Easter traditions for visitors to enjoy. The Easter season in the Czech Republic was generally associated with the welcoming of Spring, as the religious connections to the holiday were suppressed under communism. Today the religious aspects of the holiday are known, but not heavily emphasized in celebrations.
Easter Symbols Throughout the Easter season there are a variety of symbols which are observed throughout the Czech Republic. Easter eggs called “kraslice” are beautifully decorated eggs with various patterns like geometric and floral designs and applied with materials such as paint, beeswax and straw. Families will usually decorate eggs in their homes using materials ranging from dyes to paint, beeswax or straw. The eggs are hard-boiled and can be found at various Easter markets around Prague. Braided whips called “pomlazka” are used by boys to lightly whip girls legs on Easter Monday. Legend has it that the twigs the whips are made from bring health and youth to those who receive a whipping. The whips are decorated with ribbons at the end and sold at Easter Markets. Traditional Czech foods during Easter include a baked lamb meal, but with the shortage in meat during the communist era a lamb-shaped cake made from gingerbread, chocolate or sugar became a popular treat. The color red is often seen around the Easter season because it represents health, happiness and the newness of the Spring season.
Easter Markets
Easter Week
Starting in March, Easter markets appear in some of the most popular areas of Prague to welcome spring. Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square and Republic Square host three of the largest markets in the city. The markets are great places to see entertainment like dancing, music and craft demonstrations as well as shop and enjoy traditional foods. The largest and most impressive Easter market is found in Old Town Square where 90 vendors selling ornately decorated eggs, toys, candles, ceramics, and puppets. The market is decorated with flowers and bright spring colors. The Old Town Market also offers egg decorating for children and candle making. The Easter markets are open everyday starting March 17th until April 8th including Easter Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
The week leading up to Easter has a variety of traditions that take place throughout the Czech Republic.
Naplavka Market In addition to the Easter markets, the Naplavka Farmers Market by the Vltava river will host two special markets on March 24th and 31st from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to celebrate the Easter season. The Naplavka markets will sell traditional Czech Easter decorations, decorated Easter eggs and treats such as gingerbread and sweet bread called mazanec. There will also be hens laying eggs for purchase so people can decorate their own eggs. Ecofarm will also be selling traditional white and green eggs for purchase at the markets. The markets will also have live demonstrations of egg decoration, as well as demonstrations of how to make braided whips.
Ugly Wednesday (Škaredá středa) is a day dedicated to spring cleaning as well as when Czech schoolchildren decorate in order to make Easter beautiful. Green Thursday (Zelený čtvrtek) is the day when boys go through the villages shaking rattles, a tradition that is believed to scare away Judas Iscariot the disciple that betrayed Jesus in Christianity. You can also find green beer sold that day as well. Good Friday (Velký pátek) repeats the festivities of Green Thursday. White Saturday (Bílá sobota) continues the rattling, but boys go door to door and shake the rattles in the hopes of receiving money from the homeowners. Easter Sunday (Neděle velikonoční) is a day of preparation for Easter Monday when girls decorate eggs and boys prepare their pomlazka whips. Easter Monday (Pondělí velikonoční) is the day of pomlazka which is the name of the day as well as the tradition of whipping. The day of pomlazka began as a pagan tradition to symbolize chasing away evil spirits and bringing health and prosperity to those who were whipped. The day is celebrated with boys using their pomlazkas to gently whip girls who give the boys eggs as well as tie ribbons to the ends of the pomlazka. Today however, the tradition is mostly celebrated for fun. March 2018 | THE PRAGUE VISITOR

THE PRAGUE VISITOR | March 2018
COCKTAIL BAR GUIDE The best cocktail bars in Prague (like the ones listed here) get pretty busy, even during the week. It's always good to make a reservation just to make sure you get a seat (even at the bar).
Tretter's
V kolkovne 3, Praha 1
www.tretters.cz
The Tretter family has been in the bar business for more than 90 years. So it’s no wonder this place feels like walking into a 1930’s Paris or New York cocktail bar. With soft lighting, classic decor and bartenders dressed the part in vintage cocktail jackets, the bar has become an institution. Number 82 on the map. +420 224 811 165 for Reservations
Parlour Krakovská 15, Praha 1 www.parlour.cz Maybe Parlour doesn’t want to be found – and that’s fine with us. The tiny little bar at the top of Wenceslas Square near the National Museum has a delightful speakeasy vibe to it, though it’s quickly becoming a popular secret. If you should luck out and discover the nearly unmarked entry, inside you’ll find an intimate, dimly lit bar with old jazz and R&B records playing and amazing craft cocktails served in antique glassware. Number 84 on the map. +420 777 200 015 for Reservations. L'Fleur V Kolkovně 920/5, 1, Praha www.lfleur.cz L’Fleur is just a few doors down from Tretter’s. Even before our first drink, we fell in love with 1920’s feel of the interior, complete with a Muchainspired stained glass window towards the back of the bar. The signature drinks all come with their own history, which your bartender is always happy to explain. If you’re feeling a bit more bubbly, try a selection from L’Fleur’s expansive champagne list. Number 94 on the map. +420 734 255 665 for Reservations Anonymous Bar
Michalská 12, Praha 1
www.anonymousbar.cz It’s nearly impossible to go into the AnonymouS
Bar and not smile. The bar is clever at every turn. You can tell the bartender your likes and they’ll make suggestions, or choose from the secret drink menu printed in UV ink and read with a small blacklight. Reservations are taken only until 9pm. Number 93 on the map. +420 608 280 069 for Reservations.
Le Valmont
Uhelný trh 414/9, Praha 1
www.levalmont.cz The Michael Van Cleef Ault concept was inspired by the Milos Forman movie of the same name, and is decorated in 18th-century French fashion with aubusson carpets, antique sofas, and massive crystal chandeliers. Just take note of the strict dress code at Le Valmont—no hats, hoodies, shorts, tank tops or sandals. Reservations are all but required, since the 100-capacity lounge fills up fairly quickly. Number 90 on the map. +420 224 267 266 for Reservations.
Black Angel's Staroměstské nám. 29, Praha 1 www.blackangels.cz Nestled in a cozy cellar just across from the Old Town astronomical clock, Black Angel’s will put you in sensory overload. With high cellar ceilings, chandeliers, and ornate decor, it’s a lot to take in. +420 224 213 807 for Reservations. Bar and Books Manesova 64, Praha 2 and Týnská 19, Praha 1 Bar & Books is the first overseas extension of the famous New York family of bars, with two locations in Prague (the more casual in Manisova and slightly more formal in Týnská). The bar evokes the feeling of a gentleman’s library. Dim lighting, heavy woods, ornately framed paintings, and of course books (though mostly for visual aesthetics). Number 85 and 86 on the map. Bonvivant's CTC Bartolomějská 305, P1
Bonvivant's CTC isn’t huge, but it’s cozy and has a cool 1950’s feel with mid-century wood furnishings, a pressed tin ceiling and a checkered
floor. Bartenders are a virtual encyclopedia of drink possibilities and suggestions based on your tastes. +420 775 331 862 for Reservations.
Bugsy's
Pařížská 1068/10, Praha 1 www.bugsysbar.cz Bugsy’s is another bar with a great history, popping up just after the Velvet Revolution. Their one constant has been their attention to detail and passion for good cocktails. Bugsy’s also loves their bubbly, and boasts over 130 brands in stock, as well as over 90 single malt whiskeys and 100 types of rum. Number 95 on the map. +420 224 810 287 For Reservations.
Hemingway's
Karolíny Světlé 26, Praha 1 www.hemingwaybar.cz Chances are, if you’ve asked around, you’ve already been recommended to Hemingway’s Bar. The Old Town hotspot just made the “World’s Top 50 Bars” for the third time, and with good reason. The bar’s philosophy is that every customer must have a seat, so you won’t feel overcrowded here. So reservations are recommended. Number 97 on the map. +420 773 974 764 for Reservations.
Cash Only Bar Liliova 3, Prague 1 www.cashonlybar.cz Just around the corner from its older sibling Hemingway’s, this little gem is making its own name with cocktails like Pin-Up Martini, made with passion fruit, vanilla and champagne. It’s an intimate bar, and they don’t take reservations. There’s also no smoking and, you guessed it—the bar doesn’t take credit cards. Oh, and by the way, they do serve amazing hot dogs. Number 89 on the map. No Reservations. Oblaca Žižkov Television Tower, Praha 3
La Bodeguita del Medio Kaprova 19/5, Praha 1
www.labodeguitadelmedio.cz With it's colonial-style interior straight from Old Havana, La Bodeguita is on point. In addition to great food, bar staff have perfected their craft with regional drinks, from the Cuba Libre to the Mojito. There's a live Cuban band several nights of the week and an amazing cigar selection as well. . Number 97 on the map. +420 224 813 922 for Reservations.
Alchemist Bar Provaznická 1, Praha 1
www.thealchemistbar.cz A relative newcomer on the scene, Achemist is turning out quality prohibition style drinks in their ornate classicly decorated location at the bottom of Wenclases Square. Number 98 on the map. +420 251 510 940 for Reservations.
Crazy Daisy Václavské nám. 4, Praha 1
www.crazydaisy.cz Somewhat hidden at the bottom of Wenceslas Square, this one of our favourite new hotspots. First republic style interior, bar staff dressed the part and videomapping on the walls that pushes reality - it feels like you're in The Great Gatsby. Oh, and the drinks - amazing! Number 99 on the map. +420 273 130 486 for Reservations.
California Republic
Belgická 275/24, Praha 2-Vinohrady www.california-republic.cz
The California Republic Bar is a splash of Californian spirit in the center of Prague. Stand up Comedy night every Second Sunday of the month. Karaoke every Monday night. Find it on our map at Number 96.
www.oblaca.cz
High atop the Žižkov Television Tower, Oblaca is making better cocktails through science. Oblaca’s Aleš J. Števlík, genius mixologist gone mad scientist (maybe that explains the drink served in a test tube). 92 on the map. + 420 210 320 086
CLUB GUIDE Roxy Dlouhá 33, Prague 1
The Roxy is one of Prague’s oldest and bestknown clubs. The venue was a popular theatre and ballroom in the 1920’s, but now you’ll find drum and bass, house, techno, and other modern styles on the dancefloor. When the club isn’t hosting a live DJ, it’s the spot for concerts and music festivals.
Lucerna
Vodičkova 36
One of the largest and most popular music clubs in Prague, Lucerna is known for its weekly concerts and events. But it’s maybe most popular on Friday and Saturday nights, when the club’s huge projection screens come alive with 80’s and 90’s music videos. Partygoers of every age and all walks of life can be seen here, getting down to oldie hits from Blondie to Nirvana. Number 66 on the map.
Cross Club
Plynární 23, Prague 7 www.crossclub.cz
Cross Club is a labyrinth of small bars and dancefloors pumping music from dubstep and techno to reggae. The club’s psychedelic, industrial décor is a sight to see in itself—every piece of the building, from the walls to the ceiling, is constructed to move and pulsate with the music. It’s one of the most unique experiences you’ll have with nightlife in Praha, but you might want to grab an Uber. Cross Club is a bit out of the city’s center, but worth the trek. Number 67 on the map.
Meet Factory
Ke Sklárně 3213/15 www.meetfactory.cz
This music club, art gallery, theater and cinema is the brainchild of David Černý, the artist responsible for some of Prague’s most famous (and controversial) modern art. A refurbished warehouse stuffed between a motorway and railroad tracks in Smíchov, Meet Factory transforms by night into a hip bar and music venue, where
you’ll find local singers and international tours alike. Number 68 on the map.
M1 Lounge Masná 1, Prague 1 www.m1lounge.com
M1 Lounge is a favorite of locals, expats and even passing-through celebrities, and it’s not hard to see why. The club’s well-known team of skilled DJs keep the place pumping with a mixture of R&B, hip-hop, electro and dance music until the wee hours of morning, and the upscale, luxurious atmosphere makes every night feel like a celebration. Number 69 on the map.
James Dean V kolkovně 922/1 www.jamesdean.cz/
Okay, we admit that this one’s kind of kitschy— but only in the best way. Named for the iconic rebel and actor, the bar has a classic 1950’s American diner feel turned nightclub late night. Number 70 on the map.
NEONE
Bubenská 1 www.lunchmeat.cz/
Neone got its start as a pop-up party, but it’s since grown into a well-established and respected club in Prague’s electronic music scene known for their superior sound system and live gigs. Electronic music fans, this is the spot where the latest trends in the industry meet innovative artists and dedicated fans. Number 72 on the map.
Radost FX radostfx.cz
Bělehradská 120, Prague 2
First opened in the early ‘90s just a few years after the Velvet Revolution, Radost FX is open Thursday to Saturday and offers the best of house, R&B and hip hop music—Rihanna even filmed one of her music videos there. Above the club is the venue’s restaurant and cafe, well-
known as one of the best brunch spots in all of Prague. Number 73 on the map.
Retro
Francouzská 75/4, Prague 2 www.retropraha.cz
One for the curious bored or brave. Retro has become the Czech home of hard house. Their club nights are full to the rafters until the small hours while go-go dancers whip the energetic clubbers into a house driven frenzy. A very friendly atmosphere with smiling faces and sweating brows as far as the eye can see, there are more locals and fewer tourists here than some of the other large clubs with amazing DJ’s, lasers, and vibes. Dress code is free and easy, flamboyant if you’re feeling daring. Number 75 on the map.
Chapeau Rouge
Jakubska 2, Old Town www.chapeaurouge.cz
Chapeau Rouge is a music clubs that ranks among the biggest in Prague with 3 floors, 4 bars & 3 stages. Chapeau truly has something for everyone! You may even stumble upon it all on your own: it’s in the center right behind Old Town Square The ground floor of Chapeau is a chill place to meet people from all over the world: travelers and expats alike. Number 77 on the map.
U Sudů
Vodičkova 10, Prague 1 www.usudu.cz
U Sudu is the best of both worlds with a wine bar upstairs and an underground, cave-like labyrinth downstairs. When you walk in, don’t stop on the top level. All that is up here is a normal looking bar. Keep walking until you hit the stairs that descend into one of the coolest places to drink on Earth... It is indeed smoky, but get past that and the place is just mythic. Number 78 on the map.
Harley's
Dlouhá 18, 110 00 , Prague 1
Harleys is described as the coolest hell on earth. This American-style biker bar opens late and is always rockin’ and rollin’ with live DJs and music acts. It’s also in a perfect location, just a twominute walk from Old Town Square. Number 79 on the map.
La Loca
Odborů 278/4, Prague 2
Chic, fashionable and a whole lotta fun! One of the very first smoke-free establishments in Prague entertains the crowds all day every day. The night is the time when true party colours of La Loca show. International vibes mixed with a scrumptious selection of sizzling drinks are a guarantee of a big night-out. Add a carefully selected music program - karaoke, 80s & 90s retro parties, DJ performances, live concerts and rooftop gatherings in the summer - and you can rest assured knowing you'll very likely to create memories to remember for a lifetime.
Café 80's 8)
You can't go wrong with 80's music. Whether you're nostaligic or just appreciative of all things "totally awesome", the two-story venue does features an 80's themed café restaurant on the first floor. But, the real story here is the basement. A nicely sized music club with an illuminated dance floor, plus a large bar and VIP lounge make it a night worthy of the MTV generation. Number 80 on the map.

„I am a so-called prepper. In the United States, these are the nutcases who sit on boxes of canned food, polish their M16′s and wait for the Judgement Day. We in Czech republic are more like gardeners and breeders of small animals. We make an effort to achieve food sovereignty and energy self-sufficiency. That’s how I got myself to this because I work as an electrical inspector – all my tools are in this backpack. It started for me when I worked in a bank where they had a huge server room that produced tremendous ammount of heat. They had to take it out of there and dump it in the air. Which they did, in a complex way. But at the same time there was a water heater under each sink in the building. That made me think about terms like energy security, energy self-sufficency and frugality. Thanks to that I got into a community of ‚Decay-ers’, a group of people that emerged out of a discussion thread named ‚Decay‘ which was 34

founded on an on-line shooting forum and later got seperated as a unique website. My volts, ohms and amps got me into a strange world of people that expect all the technological achievements of mankind to stop working one day. I know from my job that it’s something that can easily happen. And it’s not just about making people scared – our country is on the edge of a blackout several times per year. In electricity you need to have a balance between production and consumption. As soon as you lose the balance, the grid collapses. Most of the people don’t realize how fragile and vulnerable it is. So far we’ve been overcoming it only because the communist regime made the electrical grid excessive. Simply put, I am aware that there are things out of our control. It doesn’t mean that we should sit on the boxes of canned food but it’s good to know, for instance, that when there is a blackout, natural gas will work for
several more weeks or even months. Because the gas storages have a lot of diesel oil in them. But pumps and sewage treatment plants will cease to work and there will be no water in the tap. It’s good to know that one should build a latrine, not to use toilet connected to sewage system. Because if you do, we all die from infection diseases. It’s also good to now that it will be better to run out of a city. I do that already nowadays, I come to the city just to make money. I live outside of it, have my garden, my food supply, power generator and photovoltaic system. I strive to be less vulnerable, ready for whatever may come. In the backpack I have a first-aid kit – to be prepared in case anyone collapses. I have a jacket in there – in case it rains. And I have a special pocket with candy – that’s in case kids come.“
